Abstract:
Syftet med detta utvecklingsarbete har varit att utveckla och testa en arbetsmetod som baserar sig på CDIO-modellen, vilket är en modell för att utveckla tekniska utbildningar. Namnet CDIO står för: Conceive, Design, Implement och Operate. CDIO-modellen innebär att inte bara elevernas ämneskunskap ska utvecklas, utan även deras färdigheter och förmågor, vilket dem kommer ha nytta utav i sina framtida yrkesroller. Med stöd av CDIO-modellen har en hel lektionsserie i kursen Teknik 2 på gymnasiet genomförts. Det är framförallt vid planering och framtagande av lärandemålen för lektionsserien som CDIO-modellen har varit till stort stöd. Resultatet från lektionsserien visade på att majoriteten av eleverna utvecklade sina tekniska ämneskunskaper, samt sina färdigheter och förmågor. De praktiska färdigheterna testades även vid den slutliga examinationen där alla elever utom en uppvisade goda praktiska kunskaper. Den stora utmaningen vid arbetet enligt CDIO-modellen är att det kräver mycket planering och förberedelse, vilket kan tänkas innebära att det är svårt att applicera den fullt ut om ej tillräckligt med tid finns. När väl arbetet för ett kursmoment är genomfört finns det dock goda möjligheter att återanvända och förbättra det vid planering av kommande lektionsmoment.

I dagens värld har samhället blivit beroende av teknik och de flesta yrken använder teknik iolika konstellationer. Med alltmer teknisk utveckling har kompetenskraven och arbetsmetoderna förändrats. Det som tidigare upplevdes som ett ingenjörsmässigt sätt att arbeta har nu blivit ett allmänt sätt att arbeta. Det vill säga - att arbeta i grupper och projekt är sättet att arbeta för de flesta yrken. I en teambaserad miljö behövs förutom utvecklad teknisk kompetens även icke-tekniska (mjuka) färdigheter, såsom interaktion och samarbete med andra människor. Teknik 1, som är en introduktionskurs till teknik i gymnasiet, kan ses som det allra första steget mot en ingenjörsutbildning som är organiserad enligt CDIO (Conceive, Design,Implement, Operate). CDIO är en modell som används i stor utsträckning inom ingenjörsutbildningen för att förbättra sättet att undervisa i teknik och för att förbättra de blivande ingenjörernas kunskaper. Ur detta perspektiv är det intressant att se om teknikundervisningsmetoderna på gymnasienivån - särskilt arbetet i grupper och projekt -utvecklar vissa förmågor och färdigheter som är gemensamma med de som beskrivs i CDIO-modellen. Denna studie kommer att hjälpa oss att bättre förstå om Skolverkets val att basera teknikundervisning med inspiration från CDIO introducerar eleverna till ett ingenjörsmässigt sätt att arbeta och de färdigheter som behövs inom ingenjörsutbildning, som bygger på CDIO-modellen. I denna studie intervjuades tre tekniklärare och sex elever på olika gymnasieskolor i Sverige för att ta reda på deras perspektiv på förmågor och färdigheter enligt ämnets syfte och examensmål som de uppfattar att de uppnår / utvecklar genom grupp- och projektarbete. Vidare studerades om det finns enighet mellan elevernas och lärarnas svar och de lärandemål som anges i CDIO-kursplanen. Resultaten av denna studie visar att det finns många likheter mellan lärandemål skrivna i CDIO-kursplanen i förhållande till de förmågor som lärare och elever nämnde att de utvecklade genom att arbeta i projekt- och grupparbete. Mestadels utvecklades färdigheter relaterade till individuell och yrkesmässig utveckling, såsom ansvarstagande, kreativ problemlösning och analytiska färdigheter, men även kommunikation, systemtänkande och samarbete, samt arbete i grupper av olika konstellationer.
In today's world, society has become dependent on technology and most professions use technology in various constellations. With increasing technical development, the competence requirements and working methods have changed. What was previously perceived as an engineer’s way of working has now become a general way of working. That is - working in groups and projects is the way to work in most professions. In a team-based environment, in addition to developed technical competence, a range of non-technical (soft) skills - such as interaction and collaboration with other people, are also required. Technology 1, which is an introductory course to technology in upper secondary schools in Sweden, can be seen as the very first step towards engineering studies - which are at the university level organized and driven according to the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement,Operate). CDIO is a model that is widely used in engineering education to improve the way technology is taught and to improve the quality of the workforce. From this perspective, it is interesting to see if the teaching methods of technology 1 at the upper secondary schools - especially group and project work - develop certain abilities and skills that are common to those described in the CDIO-Syllabus. This study will help us better understand whether the National Agency for Education's choice to base technology education with the inspiration from CDIO, introduces students to an engineering way of working and the skills needed for engineering studies that is based on the CDIO-concept. In this study, three technology teachers and six Technology 1 students from different upper secondary schools in Sweden were interviewed, in order to find out their perspectives on abilities and skills - according to the subject's purpose and degree goals - that they perceive that they achieve / develop through group and project work. Furthermore, it was studied whether there is agreement between the students' and the teachers' answers and the learning objectives stated in the CDIO-syllabus. The results of this study show that there are many similarities between learning objectives written in the CDIO-syllabus in relation to the abilities that teachers and students mentioned that they developed by working in project and group work. Mostly, skills related to individual and professional development were developed that include taking responsibility, creative problem solving and analytical skills, communication, systems thinking and collaboration and work in groups of different constellations are a few of them.

Kursplanering är en av lärarens viktigaste arbetsuppgifter. Uppsatsen har undersökt hur fem olika lärare har planerat kursen Teknik 1 som är ny i och med GY11. Uppsatsen utgår och analyserar ingående läroplanen och de nya läroböcker som kommit ut anpassade för kursen. Studien visar att det är svårt att få med alla moment som ska ingå i kursen. Studien definierar också elva kunskapsområden och fem förhållningssätt som ingår i målen för kursen. Dessa kan användas vid kursplanering för att se till att alla moment inkluderas. Uppsatsen ger slutligen ett förslag på kursplanering som kan användas i kursen.

Abstract:
Engineering education is both academic, emphasising theory in a range of subjects, and professional, preparing students for engineering practice. Ideally, these aspects are also in a meaningful relationship in the curriculum, but the dual nature ideal is simultaneously a source of tensions. This theme is explored in the context of engineering education development, represented by the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) approach. Cases on programme and course level illustrate how the dual nature ideal is pursued in the integrated curriculum. CDIO is also compared with PBL (problem/project-based learning), and opportunities to further emphasise research in the CDIO community are explored. Two critical accounts suggest widening the perspective from curriculum development per se, to the organisational conditions. First, the views of Carl Richard Söderberg (1895-1979) are compared with CDIO, showing considerable similarities in ideals, arguments, and strategies. This leads to a critique of the swinging pendulum metaphor. Then, experiences of unsustainable change leads to a model called organisational gravity, explaining the stability of programmes and implying two change strategies, with different availability, risks, resource demands, and sustainability of results. Refuting a rationalist view on organisation, an institutional logics perspective is used to analyse the tensions within engineering education. It is suggested that the logics of the academic profession dominates over the logics of the engineering profession, hence favouring “teaching theory” over “teaching professionals”. The integrated curriculum strategy is contingent on educators’ ability to unite theoretical and professional aspects in courses, and on the collegial capacity for coordination. Finally, the CDIO initiative is conceptualised as a field-level driver of institutional innovation, identifying some strategies for legitimacy.

La malla de Plan Común de ingeniería y ciencias de la Facultad de Ciencias Físicas y Matemáticas de la Universidad de Chile, determina que los estudiantes de primer año deben cursar las asignaturas de Introducción a la Ingeniería I y II, en las cuales desarrollan proyectos de ingeniería de forma grupal; diseñando, implementando y operando sus propias soluciones conforme a problemas escalables al quehacer de la ingeniería. La asignatura de Introducción a la Ingeniería es dictada en nueve secciones, conformadas por veinte grupos de cinco alumnos cada una, esta distribución está determinada por la Universidad y permite realizar un trabajo estructurado y sistemático. Se debe considerar que para la implementación de los proyectos de estas asignaturas de Ingeniería la Universidad dispone de recursos económicos y dedicación de tiempo limitados por alumno. En este Trabajo de Memoria se implementa el diseño de una experiencia para cursos de taller de introducción a la ingeniería II. Para ello se define un plan de trabajo, se diseñan los componentes mecánicos, eléctricos y computacionales, se confecciona el material de trabajo para ser utilizado durante el desarrollo de la experiencia y se define un plan piloto para la implementación de la actividad propuesta. La actividad definida para los alumnos consiste en el diseño, implementación y puesta en marcha (u operación) de un sistema de detección y transporte de carga que realiza un proceso cíclico controlado por una plataforma de desarrollo Arduino, que permite la manipulación de dispositivos electrónicos. Se mantiene el enfoque CDIO (Concebir, diseñar, implementar y operar) en el que se busca acercar el quehacer de la ingeniería, al estructurar una actividad en base a un problema concreto, para los alumnos, en la que se ponga a prueba sus conocimientos teóricos y sus habilidades. La propuesta concebida logra su objetivo y se mantiene dentro de los requerimientos y restricciones propios del curso de Introducción a la Ingeniería II.

When it comes to selling both new and used goods and services, it is quite common for people touse various online sales platforms. For those people who have a stressful everyday life with jobs,errands and responsibilities in the home, an advertising interface that is quick and easy to use isneeded. The advantage of this is that it can be used at any time and it also ensures that you do notlose much time and attention from the daily activities. This is a degree project in bachelorprogramme in Industrial Design engineering at Luleå University of Technology and is about,through the involvement of users, creating and developing an advertising interface that is bothuseful and user-friendly. To be sure that the users are in focus, a user-centered design process is used that contains the subprocesses;Project Planning, Context of Use, Create Ideas and Prototype Concepts. By usingdifferent creative and user-centered methods, such as Personas and Think aloud, different userneeds have been described. Then Brainstorming is used to generate a lot of ideas for partialsolutions based on the five components of an interface; layout, shape, color, object and function.Scamper is then used to combine all the sub-solutions based on the components, into a completesolution. To create a whole picture of the complete solution, it has first been sketched, thenvisualized and finally web-programmed a clickable prototype. Through user tests of the clickable prototype, the results have clearly pointed out that it fulfills thepurpose and goal of the degree project, i.e. to create, develop and deliver a useful and user-friendlyclickable prototype.
När det kommer till försäljning av både nya och begagnade varor samt tjänster så är det ganskavanligt att människor använder sig av olika säljplattformar på nätet. För de människor som har enstressad vardag med jobb, ärenden samt ansvar i hemmet så behövs ett annonseringsgränssnitt somgår snabbt och enkelt att använda. Fördelen med detta är att det kan användas när som helst och attdet också ser till att man inte förlorar mycket tid och uppmärksamhet från de dagliga aktiviteterna.Detta är ett examensarbete inom Teknisk Design, högskoleingenjör vid Luleå Tekniska Universitetoch handlar om att, genom involvering av användare, skapa och utveckla ett annonseringsgränssnittsom både är användbart och användarvänligt. För att vara säker på att användare är i fokus så används det en användarcentrerad designprocesssom innehåller delprocesserna; Planera Projekt, Utforska Kontext, Skapa Idéer och PrototypaKoncept. Genom att använda olika kreativa samt användarcentrerade metoder, såsom Personas samtThink aloud, så har olika användarbehov beskrivits fram. Därefter så används Brainstorming för attgenerera en massa idéer på dellösningar utifrån ett gränssnitts fem beståndsdelar; layout, form, färg,objekt samt funktion. Scamper används sedan för att sammanfoga alla dellösningarna utifrånbeståndsdelarna, till en helhetslösning. För att sedan skapa en tydlig bild på helhetslösningen så hardet först skissats, därefter visualiserats och slutligen webbprogrammerats en klickbar prototyp. Genom användartester av den klickbara prototypen så har resultatet pekat tydligt mot att denuppfyller examenarbetets syfte och mål, alltså att skapa, utveckla och leverera en användbar ochanvändarvänlig klickbar prototyp.

Abstract:
This master thesis is divided into two parts, one pedagogical and one engineering. The purpose of the pedagogical part of this master thesis was to investigate how students learn during projects. At the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, three larger student projects occurred where the students themselves developed a probe that was launched into the atmosphere. The supervisors of the projects wanted to find out how the students learn during the project. The thesis includes in-depth interviews with current and former university students. In order to compare and gain new perspectives on learning,the study also included interviews with high school students to identify their corresponding experiences of learning in their final projects in Swedish upper secondary school. The result from this study shows that the students learn through participating inactivities, collaboration and communication. Giving the students responsibility, a mutual goal and an important assignment makes them collaborate and learn from experience through reflection. The purpose of the engineering part of this master thesis was to investigate samples that were collected during the Arctic Summer Cloud Ocean Study in the summer of 2008. The samples were studied by using a scanning electron microscope. The results of the thesis are consistent with former studies on samples collected in Arctic. The images from the microscope showed microgels and how the gels assembled into larger particles, particles which can play a crucial role in the formation of clouds.

Introdução: Ansiedade, depressão, personalidade Tipo D e terapias de choque do cardioversor-desfibrilador implantável (CDI) são fatores de risco para pior ajuste psicossocial. Além da maior parte dos estudos serem realizados em países desenvolvidos, pouca atenção é dada a estes e outros fatores, assim como à influência na percepção de portadores de CDI quanto à sua cardiopatia de base. Estratégias de enfrentamento, diferença entre percepção do CDI e da doença, assim como percepção dos familiares também têm sido negligenciadas. Os objetivos deste estudo foram descrever o perfil psicossocial de portadores de CDI em nosso meio, avaliar a relação entre os fatores de risco supracitados, percepções do paciente quanto à doença cardíaca e CDI, a relação entre ocorrência e frequência das terapias de choque do CDI e a compreensão e percepção de familiares em relação ao CDI. Método: 250 portadores de CDI foram avaliados (54.10 ±15.15 anos, 67% sexo masculino) quanto à percepção de doença (Questionário Breve de Percepção de Doença [B-IPQ]); ansiedade, depressão, distress (Escala Hospitalar de Ansiedade e Depressão [HADS]); personalidade Tipo D (DS-14); ocorrência e frequência de choques do CDI desde implante e estratégias de enfrentamento. Representações emocionais e compressão de familiares dos pacientes também foram medidas. A análise estatística utilizou os métodos de Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon e X2. Resultados: Noventa e nove pacientes (39,6%) apresentaram ansiedade, 62 (24.8%) depressão; 85(34%) distress, 84(34%) personalidade Tipo D e 72(29%) perceberam a doença cardíaca como ameaça. Ansiedade, distress, depressão e personalidade Tipo D foram associadas à percepção de cardiopatia como ameaçadora, OR=11 (p= <. 0001); 7.4 (p= <. 0001); 5.3 p= <. 0001); e 2.9 (p= 0.0001), respectivamente. A percepção da doença cardíaca como ameaça também foi influenciada pela presença de choques do CDI desde o implante, com OR= 2.2 (p= 0.007), 2.1 para >=3 choques em 24 horas (p= 0.03) e 2.4 para >= 5 choques desde o implante (p= 0.008). Pacientes ansiosos e Tipo D foram associados a pior percepção de doença, considerando: 1 - fortes crenças sobre consequências mais graves da doença; 2 - não serem capazes de controlar a doença; 3 - atribuem maior número de sintomas à doença; 4 - são mais preocupados e apresentam mais emoções negativas. As percepções de pacientes com distress ou depressivos são mais negativas em todas as subescalas, exceto compreensão. A maioria dos pacientes (68%) utilizou estratégias de enfrentamento focadas na emoção. Vinte e cinco por cento dos pacientes reportaram limitação imposta pela doença, enquanto 75% se sentiram limitados pelo CDI. Pacientes perceberam mais consequências negativas da doença que do CDI. Familiares apresentaram desgaste emocional e baixa compreensão quanto o uso e funcionamento do CDI. Conclusões: Portadores de CDI assistidos em hospital terciário de atenção cardiológica apresentaram: Elevada taxa de ocorrência de ansiedade; depressão, distress, personalidade Tipo D e percepção de doença como ameaça; Limitação das atividades da vida diária como a maior demanda vivenciada; Cardiopatia de base afetando mais a vida que o CDI, mas a maioria considerando o choque do CDI aversivo. Implicação: Intervenções psicossociais específicas são essenciais para melhor ajustamento de portadores de CDI e seus familiares
Introduction: Anxiety, depression, Type D personality, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) shocks are well-known risk factors for psychosocial maladjustment. Despite the fact that most of the studies were conducted in well-developed countries, little attention has been given to these and others factors and their influence on ICD patients\' perceptions of their heart disease. Coping strategies, the differences between ICD patient and heart disease patient perceptions, and the perception of family members has also been neglected. This project was aimed at describing the psychosocial profile of Brazilian ICD patients and evaluating the relationship between the aforementioned risk factors and patient perceptions about their heart disease and ICD, the temporal relation between occurrence and frequency of ICD shocks, and the understanding and perception of family members regarding the ICD. Methods: 250 ICD patients were evaluated (54.10 ±15.15 years, 67% male) regarding illness perception (Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire [B-IPQ]); anxiety, depression, distress (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale [HADS]); Type D personality (DS-14); occurrence and frequency of ICD shocks since implantation; and coping. Family members\' comprehension and emotional representations of the ICD were also assessed. Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon and X2 were used for statistical analysis. Results: Ninety-nine patients (40%) had anxiety, 62 (25%) depression; 85 (34%) distress, 84 (34%) Type D personality, and 72 (29%) perceived the heart disease as a threat. Anxiety, distress, depression, and Type D personality were associated with perceiving heart disease as a health threat with odds ratios of 11 (p= <.0001); 7.4 (p= <.0001); 5.3 (p= <.0001); and 2.9 (p= 0.0001), respectively. Patients\' perceptions of their heart disease as a threat were also influenced by ICD shocks since implantation with odds ratios of 2.1 (p= 0.007), of 2.1 for >=3 shocks in 24 hours (p= 0.045) and of 2.4 for >= 5 shocks since implantation (p= 0.043). Anxious and Type D patients were also associated with poorer illness perceptions regarding: 1 - strong beliefs about more serious consequences of the illness; 2 - not being capable of controlling the disease on their own; 3 - a greater number of symptoms attributed to the illness; 4 - more concerns and negative reactions. Distressed or depressive patients\' perceptions are more negative on every item of the scale except for understanding. The majority of patients (68%) used emotion focused coping mechanisms. Twenty-five percent of the patients reported feeling limited by heart disease, while 75% reported feeling limited by having the ICD in place. Patients perceived more negative consequences with heart disease than with ICD placement. Family members manifested distress about the ICD and misunderstanding regarding its purpose and function. Conclusions: ICD patients treated in a tertiary heart center presented with incresead frequency of anxiety, depression, distress, Type D personality, and perception of their illness as threat. Limitation of activities of daily living was the most common complaint. Heart disease was reported as more debilitating than the ICD itself, but most patients still considered the device\'s shock aversive. Implication: Specific psychosocial interventions are essential for better adjustment of ICD patients and their families after ICD placement

Abstract:
An experimental study was made of the fabrication of a Se-CdO photovoltaic cell, with particular emphasis on the d.c. reactive sputtering process for depositing the CdO window layer using a mixed gas method. It was found that variations of the sputtering conditions had a great influence on the cell photovoltaic performance. Optimum values of the sputtering parameters of current, pressure and gas flow rate were determined and the effect of variation of the oxygen/argon ratio in the sputtering gas flow was studied. The condition of the surface of the cadmium target was also found to play an important role in cell performance. As a result of the work, a maximum conversion efficiency of 3% was obtained under 100 mW/cm$ sp2$ of direct simulated sunlight. Diffusion length measurements were made in the cells using the photocurrent-capacitance method and the best experimental conditions for these measurements were determined. It was found that this technique is very tolerant of series resistance in the cell but intolerant of low shunt resistance. Using the photocurrent-capacitance method, it was found that the diffusion length of the minority carriers in the selenium absorber layer decreased with increase of flow rate of the oxygen-argon mixed gas.

Abstract:

In recent years organizations developing information systems have started to demand that there should be an explicit connection between the rationale of the system developed and the system itself. In the "From Fuzzy to Formal" project an attempt to develop a methodology supporting this was made. Within the project a method called Enterprise Modeling was developed, aiming at creating this connection. This method contains five different sub-models. The sub-models are connected to each other by inter-model links. The models developed using EM are of high complexity. Therefore tool and repository support should be provided. To be flexible and extendible, such a tool set should be based upon a standardized meta-model. CDIF is an example of such a standard.

In this dissertation we develop a meta-model capable of capturing the information that is created using the Enterprise Modeling technique. We use the extensibility mechanism that is provided with the CDIF standard to extend the existing CDIF Integrated meta-model to support the models used in this work. We also develop a procedure supporting the mapping between the representations. Finally we discuss the functionality of a tool capable of supporting the work with the models.

The challenge of combating Clostridium difficile infections (CDI) is a major problem within many health care organizations as CDI adds to the cost of care and is an uncomfortable and sometimes fatal complication of hospitalization for the patient. The practice-focused question for this doctoral project was targeted at patients in hospital settings on a medical surgical floor and asked if clostridium difficile preventive bundles reduce the incidence of CDI compared with nonstandardized preventative methods. Using the plan-do-study-act framework, the purpose of this DNP project was to use a clostridium difficile bundle approach to study the effects of clostridium difficile incidence (CDI) decrease on a medical-surgical unit with high CDI incidences. Standardized environmental cleaning practices resulted in improvement of the patient environment. High-touch cleaning improved from 43.7% to 83.3%. Time between CDI events lengthened from 19.9 days to 30.2, environmental cleaning with the use of Dazo auditing improved from 33.4% to 81.6%, isolation practices improved from 62.7% to 90%, and with the implementation of the nurse-driven CD testing protocol, unnecessary testing improved. Results showed that the CDI incidence on an acute care medical surgical unit was reduced through the use of a clostridium difficile preventive bundle in this DNP project. Reducing the incidence of CDI is a significant contribution to social change as this unwanted complication of hospitalization causes discomfort and pain and adds unnecessary cost to health care.

Business Rules have gained attention in recent years and are now considered to be important organizational elements. Several sources in the literature argue that there are major achievements to be made with an explicit business rule focus in software engineering, e.g. promoting communication between analysts and users and accounting for changeability and maintenance aspects. However, to fully take advantage of an explicit rule focus in software engineering requires the ability to create business rule models. The problem is that business rule models of realistic size quickly become extensive and complex, hence there is a need for CASE tool support.

We choose a modeling technique from the literature which is suited to express business rules. Basec on this modeling technique we propose an extension to the Case Data Interchange Format standard (CDIF), thereby allowing the standard to express and support the transfer of business rule models. In addition, we define a mapping procedure that which maps business rules from the conceptual modeling level via CDIF (using the proposed extensions) to SQL3 triggers. The main idea is that the mapping algorithms could be used by a CDIF conformant CASE tool which allows traditional database design, together with extended modeling constructs for expressign business rules.

Abstract:
In this thesis a variety of photoelectron spectroscopy techniques have been applied to study CdO, in order to gain a more detailed knowledge of both the bulk and surface electronic properties of this material. Hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES) has been used, relaxing the surface preparation requirements of conventional photoemission techniques. This allows CdO to be measured in an as-grown condition with the associated higher carrier concentrations. The effects of conduction band filling and final state screening have been observed, and a discussion of the bulk-like sensitivity of HAXPES is given. The use of synchrotron radiation allows variation of the photon energy used to excite photoelectrons, and this is combined with the associated changes in photoionisation cross-sections to study the orbital character of the CdO valence band (VB). These measurements have been compared to density functional theory (DFT) calculations, using three functionals. It was found that using LDA+U and employing a theoretically calculated value of U = 2.34 eV can adequately reproduce the experimentally measured Cd 4d shallow core level position. The photon energy dependence of the shape of the VB, however, was not reproduced by the DFT calculations, indicating that additional Cd 5p character may be present within the VB, and that the O 2p photoionisation cross-sections may by underestimated at higher photon energies. The electron accumulation layer known to exist at the CdO surface has been tuned by the addition of Rb, which allowed the 2D electron density to be almost doubled. The effects of the increased 2D electron density on the surface band gap narrowing have been investigated by simulating the subband dispersion using the Poisson-Schrödinger model. The effective mass of the subband states has been extracted, and was found to be significantly lower than the reported bulk mass, which is discussed in the context of other recent results.

Ce travail de réflexion a pour objectif d’appréhender les pratiques managériales, pédagogiques et communicationnelles mises en place par les professeurs documentalistes afin de créer des liens entre CDI physique et CDI numérique. Pour cela, nous avons procédé à une enquête de terrain, sur la Région PACA, auprès de 41 professeurs documentalistes, soit 39 CDI de collège ou lycée général. Notre investigation est structurée en deux phases successives : un questionnaire exploratoire suivi d’un entretien semi-directif. Le matériau ainsi constitué a été analysé « épisode par épisode », relatant les moments importants pour les acteurs : ceux qui relèvent de la routine et ceux qui apparaissent inhabituels. Nous avons comparé le sens des paroles relavant les logiques récurrentes pour isoler les tendances conjoncturelles spécifiques à certains établissements procédant donc à un double niveau. Les professeurs documentalistes s’approprient le numérique en fonction de leurs envies, leurs possibilités et les moyens à leur disposition en l’absence de réelles prescriptions. Ils sont aussi contraints par le CDI, espace physique dont ils dépendent. Les études actuelles s’intéressent à l’espace documentaire scolaire dans ses aspects purement pédagogiques ou numériques mais peu relient directement les deux. Par conséquent, comment le professeur documentaliste tiraillé entre injonctions institutionnelles et besoins professionnels spécifiques peut-il proposer un service qui réponde réellement et efficacement aux usagers dans son organisation globale ?
This thinking process aims at perceiving the managerial, pedagogical and communication practices introduced by the school librarians in order to create links between the material and the digital school libraries. To the end, we have proceeded with a field survey in the south east of France : 41 school librarians (39 secondary school librarians and 2 high school librarians). Our investigation is organized in two successive periods : an exporatory study followed by a semi-structured interview. The established data has been analysed « step by step », relating the important moments of the participants : those which prove the routine and those which seem unusual. We have compared the words meaning, selecting the reccuring rationales in order to define the conjonctural and particular trends in some schools, leading to a double level. The school librarians appropriate digital tools according to their needs, possibilities and resources in absence of regulatory requirements. They are also constrainted by the school libraries, real documentary spaces they depend on. The current studies are interested in the purely pedagogical or digital aspects but they rarely connect the two facets. Therefore, how may the school librarian, torn between the institutional ordinances and the particular professional necessity, offer a service that could really and efficiently respond to the needs of the users considering its general management ?

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the study was to determine the rate of Clostridium difficile infections (CDI) in hospitalized patients and the various factors that were associated with the risk of developing CDI by examining patient discharge data for hospitals in 37 states in the United States using Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). METHODS: Patient discharge information for all patients obtained using HCUP census for the years 2002-2005, either for primary or secondary (all-listed) occurrences of CDI using the ICD-9-CM code (008.45) specific for intestinal infections due to C. difficile, were included in the study. Regression analysis, either Generalized Linear Model log-link or power-link, or a logistic regression was employed to control for the multiple independent variables. RESULTS: The incidence rate for CDI was 9.4% for the years 2002-2005. Among the concomitant diagnoses and procedures, essential hypertension, volume depletion, congestive heart failure, urinary tract infection and venous catheterization were the top 5. The length of stay (LOS) for CDI was associated with being Black, Hispanic or Other race category, number of diagnoses and procedures, primary expected payer of Medicaid, private insurance and other (including worker’s compensation, CHAMPUS,CHAMPVA etc), and all groups classified based on median household income category for patient’s zip code. Predictors of CDI related to inpatient total hospital charges were being female, race (other than black), number of diagnoses and procedures, Death, LOS, patient location and with self-pay and no charge categories as primary expected payer. Predictors of higher CDI related inpatient hospital deaths were age, female sex, Hispanic race, number of diagnoses and procedures, LOS and having Medicaid, self-pay or other as primary expected payer. CONCLUSIONS: LOS, inpatient total hospital charges, and inpatient mortality were dependent on several patient and other characteristics.

Abstract:
Hospital-associated infections (HAIs) are infections patients contract as a result of being hospitalized. HAI rates decreased for almost all pathogens in the past few years, with the exception of Clostridium difficile infections (CDIs), which have been steadily climbing, placing hospital-acquired CDI at the top of the HAI list. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported in 2010 almost a half a million people were infected with CDIs yearly in the United States, and CDIs claimed the lives of approximately 29,000 people, representing a 4-fold increase from 1993. To address the problem in the local hospital, a quality improvement initiative called Bleach-It-Away was initiated. The initiative involved nurses wiping down the high touch areas in the patient's medical intensive care (MICU) rooms once every shift. The purpose of this quantitative research project was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Bleach-It-Away practice. The project question asked if the Bleach-It-Away practice was effective in reducing CDI rates. Deidentified CDI rates were provided by the clinical practice site covering a period of 12 months prior to implementation and 12 months after implementation of the practice. An independent t-test was used to determine whether there were significant improvements in CDI rates in the MICU. No significant improvement was seen in the postimplementation total CDI rates (p=.07) compared to the preimplementation rates. While the process did not demonstrate a significant improvement, positive social change is possible as hospitals recognize the many factors contributing to CDIs and the need for collaboration from various disciplines to control the problem.

Espectroscopia no infravermelho também mostrou a presença de estruturas Bi2O3. Absorção óptica UV-Vis indica que a presença de cádmio e bismuto em vidro TW sem serem submetidos a tratamento térmico não muda os valores de gap óptico, sendo que este corresponde a uma energia de ~2,8 eV

The sample was synthecized: doped with oxide of cadmium and bismuth oxide, in diverse ratios of its compositions, and these had been submitted or not it reducing enviroments. The samples had been thermally dealt with the different temperatures in the region glass transition (Tg ~ 350° C) and analyzed using the techniques of DRX, DSC, FTIR and UV-Vis. Photovoltaic cells having the structures CuInSe2-CdO and CuInSe 2-CdS-CdO have been fabricated on a cut or cleaved p-type Bridgman-grown CuInSe2 ingot. The CdO window layer in both cases was deposited by dc reactive sputtering. In the CuInSe2-CdS-CdO structures, the CdS interlayer was deposited by a solution growth method and these cells, incorporating the CdS interlayer, yielded a conversion efficiency of about 6.9%. By comparison, the cell with the structure CuInSe2-CdO, where the lattice mismatch between the CuInSe2 and the CdO is some 23%, showed a surprising efficiency of 6.8%. This result, indicating that the defect centers at the CuInSe2-CdO interface arising from the large lattice mismatch, play a smaller role than expected, suggests that the seat of photovoltaic action may lie away from the substrate-window layer interface as a buried homojunction within the CuInSe2. While the conversion efficiencies Of the two kinds of cells were similar, there were slight differences in their other characteristics whereby the device without the CdS interlayer had a higher illuminated open circuit voltage, lower short circuit current density, higher forward ideality factor above 2 and higher internal series resistance. The acceptor concentration of the stoichiometrically-prepared CuInSe 2 was estimated to be about 1017 cm-3 in the bulk of the wafers but almost an order of magnitude smaller than this near the surface after annealing in argon. Using the photocurrent-capacitance method, minority electron diffusion lengths in the CuInSe2 were estimated to be about 3 mum for the devices made with cleaved substrates and about half this value for the cells made with abrasively-polished substrates.

Introduction: Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is a common hospital-acquired infection and a financial burden on the healthcare system. There is a need to reduce its impact on patients and the entire health system. More accurate estimates of the financial impact of CDI will assist hospitals in creating better CDI reduction strategies with limited resources. Previous research has not sufficiently accounted for the skewed nature of hospital cost data, baseline patient mortality risk, and the time-varying nature of CDI. Objective: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to estimate the cost impact of hospital-acquired CDI from the hospital perspective, using a number of analytical approaches. Method: We used clinical and administrative data for inpatients treated at The Ottawa Hospital to construct an analytical data set. Our primary outcome was direct costs and our primary exposure was hospital-acquired CDI. We performed the following analyses: Ordinary least square regression and generalized linear regression as time-fixed methods, and Kaplan-Meier survival curve and Cox regression models as time-varying methods. Results: A total of 49,888 admissions were included in this study (mean (SD) age of 64.6 ± 17.8 years, median (IQR) baseline mortality risk of 0.04 (0.01-0.14)). 360 (0.73%) patients developed CDI. Estimates of incremental cost due to CDI were substantially higher when using time-fixed methods than time-varying methods. Using methods that appropriately account for the time-varying nature of the exposure, the estimated incremental cost due to CDI was $8,997 per patient. In contrast, estimates from time-fixed methods ranged from $49,150 to $55,962: about a six fold difference. Conclusion: Estimates of hospital costs are strongly influenced by the time-varying nature of CDI as well as baseline mortality risk. If studies do not account for these factors, it is likely that the impact of hospital-acquired CDI will be overestimated.

Divida estruturada foi desenvolvida pela junção de títulos de dívida num mesmo portfólio que levou à crise económica e financeira de 2007, a designada da crise do sub-prime. As Agências de Crédito contribuíram para o grande investimento de divida estruturada através da classificação AAA de dívida considerados como lixo, ao prometer aos emitentes resultados rentáveis. Adotando uma metodologia qualitativa, o objectivo desta dissertação é apresentar a importância da dívida estruturada no atual mercado financeiro através da atração dos produtos estruturado trazem devido à sua complexidade e opacidade e explicar a razão porque os emitentes insistem no seu comércio. As razões da sua atratividade são realçadas e pontos explicando os riscos de investimentos de divida estruturada são enfatizados. Adicionalmente, a sua existência é devida às Agências de Crédito pelas suas classificações como se tratasse de títulos corporativos permitindo o seu comércio. Cálculos errados e mau uso da metodologias das Agências levaram ao decréscimo da transparência do mercado financeiro e nomeadamente à crise financeira. Um estudo empírico sobre o comercialização da dívida, a sua qualificação explicam as razões de compras de classificação, uso comum dos emitores para terem a certeza que os seus clientes investiam em títulos na qual não tinham conhecimento. Dificuldade na obtenção de dados credíveis foi considerada, por isso são usado dados retirados de SIFMA para se perceber a quantidade de emissão de dívida Europeia e americana assim como para perceber como as três grandes agências de rating classificaram as securities durante o período de 2008 e 2014.
Collateralized Debt Obligations were developed as repackaging securities backed by a combination of debt which led to the econmic and financial crisis of 2007, the so-called subprime crisis. Credit Rating Agencies contributed highly to the exponential growth of CDO investment through the AAA investment quality score of these "junky" securities promising issuers of high profitable outcomes and financial returns. Following a qualitative methodology, the purpose of this dissertation is to clearly present the importance of CDOs in the current financial market through the great attraction of complex and opaque structured products and explain why investors insist on issuing them. Reasons for their attractiveness are highlighted and points explaining CDOs investments risks are emphasized. Additionally, there existence is thankful of CRAs who grade them as they were corporate bonds permitting their issuing. Miscalculations and misuse of quantitative methodologies from CRAs led to the decrease in transparency in financial markets and consequently to thegreat financial crisis. An empirical study of the CDOs' issuance, on how they were graded from CRAs explain the reasons for rating shopping, a commom use of issuers to make sure that their clientele invested in the securities they have no knowledge about. Difficulty in obtaining reliable data was considerable, so the use of SIFMA data is taken in consideration, in order to understand the European and US issuance as well as how the three CRAs scored the securities during the periods of 2008 and 2014.

The problem of managing the portfolio provisions is of very high importance for any financial institution. In this paper we provide both static and dynamic models of provisions estimation for the case when the decision about provisions is made at the first moment of time subject to the absence of information and for the case of complete and incomplete information. Also the hedging strategy for the case of the defaultable market is presented in this work as another tool of reducing the risk of default. The default time is modelled as a first-passage time of a standard Brownian motion through a deterministic barrier. Some methods of numerical provision estimation are also presented.

Abstract:
A study has been made of certain features of the fabrication of a Se-CdO photovoltaic cell having a layer structure usually of the form Al-Bi-Se-CdO-metal. It was found that increasing the substrate temperature during the selenium deposition between 80 and 140$ sp circ$C increased the illuminated short circuit current density in the cell. This clearly demonstrated the necessity of having well-crystallized selenium, as opposed to amorphous selenium, as the active absorber layer in this cell. The CdO layer was normally deposited by d.c. reactive sputtering from a cadmium target in an ambient of argon plus residual air and, as a result of optimizing experiments, conversion efficiency of about 2% was obtained under an illumination of 100 mWcm$ sp{-2}$. The CdO layer was also deposited by r.f. magnetron sputtering from a CdO target. This produced satisfactory cells but with lower shunt resistance values than in the d.c. sputtered devices. It was found that the electrical resistivity of the CdO layer was decreased with increase of r.f. power and with decrease of sputtering pressure. Exploratory Se-CdO cells were also fabricated on glass substrates using d.c. reactive sputtering. By connecting these electrically in series, a photovoltaic panel was constructed and incorporated as the power source in a small pocket calculator, which was found to function satisfactorily under indoor lighting. An inverted structure of the form CdO-Se-metal was also fabricated and shown to function as a photovoltaic device.

Neste artigo analisamos um tipo de operação de hedge - com Cupons Cambiais diferentes do negociado no mercado - que recentemente começou a ser operacionalizada no mercado brasileiro. Além de documentar esta operação, este artigo tem como objetivo explicitar a exposição pré-fixada que esta operação gera, algo que pode não ser percebido intuitivamente. Em verdade quando estas operações começaram a ser implementadas, algumas instituições não perceberam este risco, sendo depois surpreendidos com os resultado gerados pelas mesmas. Cette thèse a pour but d'éclaircir certains aspects de la gestion des risques des tranches de CDO synthétique. La première partie concerne l'analyse du risque des tranches de CDO dans la classe des modèles à facteur qui regroupe un nombre important d'approches populaires comme les modèles basés sur des copules, les modèles structurels multivariés, les modèles Poisson multivariés ou encore les modèles à intensité affine. De plus, lorsque l'on considère un portefeuille de crédit homogène, l'hypothèse d'une structure de dépendance basée sur une représentation à facteur n'est plus restrictive grâce au théorème de De Finetti. La loi de la probabilité conditionnelle de défaut joue un rôle primordial pour l'évaluation des tranches de CDO mais également pour l'analyse du risque des portefeuilles de crédit. En effet, il est possible de comparer différents modèles à facteur en comparant simplement leur probabilité conditionnelle de défaut. La seconde partie aborde le problème de la couverture dans le cadre des modèles de contagion markovien pour lesquels les prix d'actifs contingents au risque de défaut peuvent être parfaitement répliqués sous l'hypothèse d'absence de défauts simultanés. De plus, lorsque le portefeuille est homogène et lorsque les intensités de défaut ne dépendent que de l'état courant du nombre de défauts, le processus de la perte agrégée est simplement une chaîne de Markov. Dans ce cas, il est possible de calibrer les intensités de la perte agrégée sur une distribution de perte et de calculer efficacement des stratégies de couverture dynamiques à l'aide d'un arbre binomial recombinant dans lequel le payoff des tranches de CDO peut être parfaitement dupliqué grâce à l'indice et à l'actif sans risque
This thesis is dedicated to risk management of synthetic CDO tranches. The first part deals with risk analysis of CDO tranches from the point of view of factor models. Thanks to the factor framework, we can handle a wide range of well-know pricing models. This includes pricing approaches based on copulas, but also structural, multivariate Poisson and affine intensity models. Factor models have become increasingly popular since there are associated with efficient semi-analytical methods and parsimonious parameterization. Moreover, the approach is not restrictive at all in the case of homogeneous credit portfolios thanks to De Finetti's theorem. In factor models, the distribution of conditional default probabilities is the key input for the pricing of CDO tranches. Therefore, we can compare different factor models by simply comparing the distribution functions of the corresponding conditional default probabilities. In the second part, we describe a hedging strategy of CDO tranches based upon dynamic trading of the corresponding credit default swap index. We rely upon a homogeneous Markovian contagion framework, where only single defaults occur. In our framework, a CDO tranche can be perfectly replicated by dynamically trading the credit default swap index and a risk free asset. Default intensities of the names only depend upon the number of defaults and are calibrated onto an input loss surface. Numerical implementation can be carried out fairly easily thanks to a recombining tree describing the dynamics of the aggregate loss

The causes of the 2008 financial crisis were wide ranging. Some financial commentators have suggested there were significant inadequacies in the models used to price complex derivatives such as synthetic Collaterilised Debt Obligations (CDOs). We discuss the technical properties of CDOs and the modeling approaches used by CDO traders and the watchdog credit rating agencies. We look at how the pricing models fared before and during the financial crisis. Comparing our model prices to market synthetic CDO prices, we investigate how well these pricing models captured the underlying financial risks of trading in CDOs.

Este estudo tem como objetivo estudar o mercado europeu de CDS e CDO. Através de uma análise econométrica estimaremos a relevância de diversas variáveis para explicar o logaritmo das primeiras diferenças dos spreads das tranches do CDO baseado no iTraxx Europe 5-year. Assim, a nossa amostra é composta por dados diários desde Fevereiro de 2005 até Fevereiro de 2012 das tranches do iTraxx Main 5-year e de proxies para os riscos de crédito, taxa de juro, liquidez e para a volatilidade de mercado e rendibilidades do mercado acionista. Para aferir se houve alterações significativas no mercado Europeu de CDO depois da crise financeira, estimaremos duas regressões adicionais, onde na primeira utilizaremos uma dummy temporal para isolar os períodos antes e depois da crise e na segunda outra dummy temporal para isolar o período após a falência do Lehman Brothers. As nossas principais conclusões são que as proxies para os riscos de crédito e de taxa-de-juro, bem como a volatilidade de mercado são relevantes em todas as tranches para a totalidade do período da amostra. Além disso, as rendibilidades do mercado acionista e o declive da estrutura temporal parecem assumir uma maior relevância para explicar as tranches do CDO depois da crise financeira de 2007.
The focus of this study is the European CDS and CDO markets. Using a regression-based approach we estimated the relevance of market-based proxies for explaining the first differences of the logarithm of European CDS Index tranches premia (iTraxx Europe 5-year index). Therefore, our sample is comprised by daily data since February 2005 to February 2012, of iTraxx Main 5-year tranche premia and proxies for credit risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, equity returns and market volatility. In order to understand if there were significant changes in the CDO market after the financial crisis, we run two additional regressions, where first, we add a time dummy to isolate the periods before and after the turmoil and, after that we include a time dummy to isolate the period after the Lehman Brothers´ collapse. Our main findings are that proxies for credit risk, risk-free rate risk and market volatility are significant in all tranches when we consider the entire sample. Moreover, equity returns and the slope of the term structure seem to play a more important role in pricing tranche premia, since the start of the financial crisis of 2007.

A metodologia empregada consiste em desenvolver comparaÃÃes que quantifiquem a presenÃa de fundos Private Equity no ranking da revista, alÃm de comparar a variaÃÃo dos preÃos das aÃÃes pÃs IPO com a taxa CDI e o Ibovespa, a comparaÃÃo serà da data de seu IPO em um prazo seguinte de 30 e 360 dias. Para o experimento, foram coletados os IPOs realizados na Bovespa do ano de 2011 ao ano de 2013, totalizando 24 IPOs. Les TICE (Nouvelles technologies de l'Information et de la Communication à l'Ecole), et en particulier l'hypertexte, offrent, selon le discours officiel, un espoir de réussite pour les élèves en difficulté. La méthodologie développée ici repose sur un dispositif d'atelier d'écriture au CDI (Centre de Documentation et d'Information) d'un EREA (Etablissement Régional d'Enseignement Adapté) pour handicapés moteurs (élèves de CPPN, seconde BEP secrétariat et comptabilité). Le lieu CDI, le public handicapé et l'hypertexte sont des analyseurs. Un logiciel est créé, sa mise en oeuvre produit des effets retours qui modifient la recherche. Elle se centre moins sur l'outil que sur l'homme aux prises avec l'écriture, libérant le sujet existentiel du sujet opératoire. La démarche, qui prend en compte la complexité du terrain où se déploie l'acte éducatif, s'insère dans une approche plurielle. Le regard porté sur les textes produits par les élèves de faible niveau est structuré par l'analyse de pratique de documentaliste. Celle-ci est constitutive du cadre théorique qui reconnaît les savoirs cachés dans l'agir professionnel, autorisant le dépassement des antagonismes chercheur/praticien. La dimension hypertexte, qu'elle soit issue d'une utilisation de l'ordinateur ou du stylo est une piste qui, développant l'écriture de l'expérience de vie, devient une offre de passage possible de l'hétéroformation à l'autoformation. Le texte faible n'apparaît plus dans ses seules caractéristiques immédiates, disqualifiantes. Il appelle une théorie qui reste à établir mais s'avère valide du point de vue de la formation. According to the French education officials, the Information and Communication Technologies for Schools - hypertext in particular - represent tools of success for pupils who have difficulties and give them new possibilities. Our methodology consists in writing sessions for pupils of three classes - one CPPN, i. E. A prevocational class, one "seconde BEP secrétariat", i. E. A secretarial studies fifth-form and one "seconde BEP comptabilité", i. E. An accountancy studies fifth-form. The writing sessions take place in a CDI (i. E. Centre of Documentation and Information) of an EREA (i. E. Regional secondary school for handicapped pupils). The analysis process uses three entities : the place in itself, that is the CDI, the spastic public and the hypertext software. The use of hypertext software produces reactions and triggers modifications in our research as was previously intended. The complexity of a research situation at school with an educational act obliges to refer to a plural approach of theories. In particular the Practical Analysis is used in my work as a teacher-documentalist because it goes beyond the contradiction between the practitioner and the researcher. Hypertext writing is possible with a computer as well as with a pen. It is a possibility to write about one's own life and experience and to reach self-education. Faulty and poor texts are no more disqualified, on the contrary they serve the education of individuals and as such call for a new theory, which has still to be built. The hypertext is a mark created by writing pupils and representing them. The role of the teacher-documentalist can be redefined as a mediation role between the pupil and the adolescent, and is open to heuristic manifestations

This research defines the future learning model in the higher education. We modularize the courses structure according to four principles including PBL, CDIO, interdisciplinary collaboration, and maker. Based on the flexible and multiple module courses, we improve original quadrennial system in the higher education, and re-generate it into three levels: (1) General level, (2) Implement level, and (3) Practical level. General level builds the basic knowledge and ability with the combination of different modular courses. Implement level increases the degree of project implement and interdisciplinary collaboration. Practical level goes deep into the practical projects which can connect with the society needs. It aims to train the talents who have the abilities in service-oriented, innovating-oriented, and marketing-oriented expertise. This research integrates the problem-based learning (PBL), CDIO learning process, and double diamond interdisciplinary method to develop the maker incubation pedagogy. We develop 4 stages of the maker incubation including (1) issue finding, (2) design thinking, (3) fabrication implementing, and presentation marketing. In order to evaluate the performance of maker incubation pedagogy, we conduct two short-term modular courses at first. It provides some solid conclusions for our further modification of pedagogy. Then we run the semester course based on the modified one. We use quantitative and qualitative questionnaires to assess the performance of course and students’ learning. The feedback and finding demonstrate the potential of our maker incubation pedagogy and give use the clues to devote it into the higher education.

This study aimed to construct a system of synchronizing syllabus based on the CDIO teaching model and evaluate its effectiveness. This is to examine the nowadays common problem of college graduates not being able to apply what they learned in school to real-life professions. The purpose of this study was to find ways to provide a specific strategy that could benefit future students in the industry. First, the development trends of the mold industry in Taiwan and the human resources strategy of the smart mold manufacturing industry of Industry 4.0 were investigated to explore the standard of engineering talent in the industry and create a competency indicator for mold design concurrent systems to serve as an essential reference for curriculum planning and the criteria for learning outcome assessments. Second, the scope covered by the mold industry in the product life cycle was used as the blueprint for developing the curriculum. Finally, the CDIO curriculum design principle was applied to the design of the integrated curriculum module. Experimental teaching was conducted in the Bachelor’s Program in Precision System Design at Feng Chia University in Taiwan for 18 weeks. A total of 54 sophomores participated in the experimental program and the product research and development project entitled “Design and transformation of older-adult-friendly living supplies” to experience the entire process of CDIO. The curriculum consisted of a total of seven courses and six teachers (including three industry experts) and offered 12 credits. Moreover, this study used the competency indicator scale in the pre- and post-tests, and a student program satisfaction survey was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the curriculum design and implementation. The results revealed that the students’ competency indicators exhibited significant progress in understanding the professional technology of molds, using CAX software, and understanding concurrent system engineering capabilities. The students were highly satisfied with the program, and the item “The engineering practice of the integrated curriculum is helpful for my future academic progression and employment needs” received the highest level of satisfaction. This program was proven effective for cultivating excellent mold design talent for the industry, thereby bridging the mismatch between knowledge and application among university graduates and serving as a great example for higher-level engineering education reform.

3D modeling and the spatial ability required by modeling are two emerging core competencies that cannot be ignored. Such technology has drawn great attention from the educational circles as the popularity of 3D printers continues to increase. There are principally three areas that make the education of 3D modeling students difficult. Three-view drawings are frequently used in conventional 3D modeling teaching to guide students in the development of their spatial concepts. However, these teaching materials often fail to achieve the teaching objectives due to a scarcity of stereoscopic and spatial information in the classroom. In the meantime, the prior spatial ability of students can become an obstacle for learning 3D modeling as well. Finally, the method of technical education that puts students in a passive position or focuses solely on the training of automation should also be transformed. This experimental study focused on the integration of the CDIO educational framework and the cognitive apprenticeship teaching strategy with the traditional teaching materials of 3D printing. Thirteen college students were selected as the subjects. There were 7 females and 6 males. The results indicate that different teaching materials, three-view drawings and physical models of 3D printing, have different influences on the development of spatial ability and the learning of mental rotation and spatial visualization. The cognitive apprenticeship teaching model, which uses teaching materials while focusing on open discussion and problem solving in behavioral expression, was superior to the conventional teaching model in the area of task-oriented problem solving by students. This study indicates that the use of physical models improves the development of spatial ability and the learning of 3D modeling relative to conventional three-view drawings. Finally, inspired by the perceptive motivation and the dual coding theories, the purpose of which is to improve the learning of 3D modeling, this study proposes a differentiated teaching model for the development of spatial ability, which suggests the use of different teaching materials and guidance modes to motivate students.
