Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In Canada, caffeinated energy drinks (CEDs) currently sold under Temporary Marketing Authorizations must meet strict eligibility criteria. These criteria, which include compositional and labelling requirements, were developed based on the outcome of a health risk assessment conducted by Health Canada (HC) in 2013. HC updated its assessment by reviewing new information with the focus on potential cardiovascular effects associated with the consumption of CEDs available for sale in Canada. Due to limited data on CED consumption among Canadians to derive accurate exposure information, the composition of a typical CED was characterized to assess the potential effects of single ingredients and synergistic interactions between ingredients on the cardiovascular system. Surveillance data on potential adverse effects related to CED consumption was also analyzed. After extensive review, HC’s updated assessment confirms the current risk management approach for CEDs is health protective for Canadian consumers, including the potential for cardiovascular effects. The available evidence supports that moderate consumption (up to 500 mL per day) of a typical CED authorized for sale in Canada is safe for the general population of healthy adults and adolescents. It also re-confirms that vulnerable sub-populations (i.e., children, pregnant and/or breastfeeding women, and caffeine-sensitive individuals) should not consume CEDs. Novelty: Consumption up to 500 mL per day of a typical CED is not associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular effects. Children, pregnant and/or breastfeeding women, and caffeine-sensitive individuals should not consume CEDs.

Abstract:
Coeliac disease (CeD) is an immune-mediated inflammatory enteropathy triggered by the ingestion of gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. Gastrointestinal (GI) hormone response related to appetite and glucose metabolism is still under-investigated in patients with CeD. This study aimed at shedding light on the appetite sensations, glycaemia and hormone response induced by a complex meal in patients with coeliac disease. Twenty-two women with CeD, nine at the diagnosis (CeDD) and thirteen under a gluten-free diet (CeDGF), and ten healthy subjects (HS) were enrolled in a single day intervention study. All subjects consumed a test meal, recorded their appetite sensations, and blood was collected over three hours after meal consumption. The study found a lower decrease in hunger in CeDD compared to CeDGF and HS after meal intake. Data showed no difference of fullness and satiety between the groups. CeDD had lower insulin and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) than CeDGF and HS. Both CeDD and CeDGF experienced a lower post-prandial response of glucose than HS. Data suggested that patients with CeD have an impaired glucose absorption after more than 12 months of gluten-free diet. Postprandial GIP may play a significant role in appetite cues and insulin response to a complex meal.

Abstract:
Background: For non-drug technologies, there is often residual uncertainty following systematic review, mainly due to inadequate evidence of efficacy. The unwillingness to make decisions in the presence of uncertainty may lead to passive diffusion and intuitive decision making with or without public pressure. This may affect health system sustainability. There is increasing interest in post-market evaluation through processes that include coverage with evidence development (CED) to address residual uncertainty regarding effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. Global experience of CED has been slow to develop despite their potential contribution to decision making. Methods: Ontario's field evaluation program to better inform decision making represents a collaboration between physicians, policy decision makers and academic centers. We report results of the first ten CEDs from this program to assess whether they achieved their objective of influencing policy by addressing residual uncertainty following systematic review. Results: Since 2003, nineteen field evaluation studies to resolve residual uncertainty following systematic review have been completed, ten of which met the criteria of CED and are the focus of this report. There was more than one patient subgroup or intervention in three of the CEDs. This provided the basis for evaluating thirteen outcomes. In each case, the CED addressed the uncertainty and led to a decision based on the systematic review and CED result. The CEDs led to adoption of the technology in six instances, modified adoption in three instances and withdrawal in four instances. Conclusions: CED makes an important contribution to translating evidence to decision making. Methodologies are needed to increase the scope and reduce timelines for CEDs, such as the use of linked comprehensive and robust data sets and collaborative studies with other jurisdictions. CED before making long-term funding decisions, especially where there is uncertainty of effectiveness, safety or cost-effectiveness, should be increasingly funded by health systems.

Abstract:
County Extension Directors (CEDs) act as the administrative leader of the county Extension office and implement their own educational program. County Extension agents act as the leader of their program area and corresponding community audience. Because of the autonomous nature of the agents’ work, it is imperative that Extension agents trust their CEDs. The Trust in Leaders Scale (TLS) was created to measure person-based trust between leaders and followers through four constructs: competence, integrity, benevolence, and predictability. A census study was conducted by distributing the TLS to the UF/IFAS Extension agents that report to a CED. Results indicated perceived moderate levels of trust between agents and CEDs, and demographic variables did not impact whether agents trusted their CED. UF/IFAS Extension should seek to understand the impact of moderate trust between county Extension agents and their CED, as research show low trust typically leads to lower job satisfaction and higher employee turnover.

Abstract:
The widespread adoption of conducted energy devices (CEDs) across American police departments over the last decade has been mired in public controversy. It is generally accepted, from a police perspective, that CEDs are safer for officers who can use the weapon at a greater distance, avoiding much of the harm associated with close physical struggles with citizens. Research has generally supported the notion that aggregate levels of officer injuries are reduced following the implementation of CEDs. Unfortunately, multivariate examinations that, in varying degrees, have attempted to compare CED applications to other forms of force (while controlling for rival causal factors) have yet to produce the same consistent results as the pre- and post-CED adoption studies. The current research adds to recent multivariate inquiries by using data collected as part of a national multiagency use of force project to assess the independent effect of CEDs on officer injuries. Based on a series of multivariate models, our results generally find evidence of increased benefits (i.e., lower probability of officer injury) of CEDs when used by themselves. By contrast, in some instances when CEDs were used in combination with other forms of force, there was an increased probability of officer injury. The implications of these findings for police researchers and practitioners are considered.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTBackground: This study sought to examine the trends in the prescribing of subsidized and unsubsidized cognition enhancing drugs (CEDs) in Australia over five years from 2002 to 2007. Subsidized cholinesterase inhibitor medication could be prescribed to people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD) once a specialist physician had confirmed this diagnosis. Memantine was available for use in moderately severe AD but not subsidized. Methods: We analyzed the Medicare Australia and Drug Utilisation Sub-Committee databases for CED prescription data, 2002–2007, by gender, age and prescriber class. Aggregated prescription data for each medication were converted to defined daily doses (DDD) per 1000 persons per day using national census data. Results: There were 1,583,667 CED prescriptions dispensed during the study period. CED use increased 58% from 0.91 to 1.56 DDD/1000 persons/day between 2002 and 2007. Peak use was in those aged 85–89 years. Age-adjusted utilization was slightly higher in females than males. Donepezil was the most widely used CED (66%), followed by galantamine (27%) then memantine (4%). General practitioners prescribed the majority of CEDs. Geriatricians exhibited a greater preference for galantamine than other prescribers. CED dispensing peaked towards the end of each calendar year, reflecting stockpiling by patients under the influence of a federal safety net subsidy. Conclusions: Despite subsidized access to CEDs in Australia, only a minority of people with AD was prescribed these drugs during the period of the study. It is likely that the combination of complex prescribing rules and negative perceptions about efficacy or cost-effectiveness might have contributed to these findings.

This thesis analyzes university trajectories of young people fromworking classes, based on the understanding of the adoptedstrategies in university education. The initial hypothesis is thatstudents do not occupy the same "position" at the University, inthe sense that there are differences in the capital composition ofeach (especially economic), which would impact their graduation. In the sociology of education, the notion of "position" is mobilizedby Pierre Bourdieu, important theoretical referential adopted, which precisely explains there is a ranking of students, collegesand educational institutions in the social environment.Methodologically, a field research was done, in a comparativeperspective, with the five most competitive graduation coursesand the five least-attended courses at the Universidade Federalde Santa Catarina, by applying questionnaires to graduates of theyear 2014 (150 students). After, the students from workingclasses were interviewed. The analysis of the initial sample withthe ten classes was made in four stages: (1) individual descriptionof each course; (2) comparison between the most competitiveand least competitive courses; (3) joint assessment of data on theten classes; (4) students working classes' data discussion of allcourses. In the interview stage, after the general characterizationof the students, it was examined in detail his journey in highereducation. In short, it was found that students of lower classestend to focus on undergraduate courses less prestigious and lessprofitable; whereas, in high selectivity and higher status courses, are still exceptions. They demonstrate consciousness, thoughfragile, competition for better positions in the university hierarchy, with a view to future entry into the labor market. They understandthat expanded the cultural and social capital, the fields of futureprofessional activities and its possibility of financial return;however, they feel less empowered to professional achievementthat colleagues of more advantaged classes. There was aparticular kind of presence of the families during the studies, especially in terms of emotional support and cost of basic needs, with the proviso that it is the less underprivileged portion of theworking classes. The students feel responsible for their schooldestination, which demand high personal investment and selfdetermination.Students experience the social multiple belongingbetween the home environment and the university campus and are faced with the opportunity of "uprooting". However, the students also develop a sense of their position, as partially recognize the limits to its popular origin imposes on the profitability of the diploma. That is why: "the cards are played too early" (Bourdieu), because education strategies that focus on the provisions of an individual for the future depend not only on social class and their position in it, but also the sense of collective journey of their group and the direction it entered its own particular path. If the popular classes do not leave the University in the same positions than the others it is because the "equal opportunities", as prescribed meritocracy, is not synonymous for "equal positions", as are the positions that determine the opportunities.

Abstract:
The transcendence of Music in Peru goes beyond the aesthetic value provided by its regional origin. Its importance relies in its capacity to serve as a conduit for national identity and a generator of economic growth. In this context, experimentation and diffusion of music are two aspects that must be broached with special attention given the intricate reality of the music industry in our country. The “Contemporary Music Center for Experimentation and Broadcasting” is a strategically located venue for the development and appreciation of music which offers rich landscapes and amenities as it is located across from “El Campo de Marte” and “Centro Cultural Sérvulo Gutiérrez” in the city of Jesus María, Lima. Hence, this architectural project provides both the community and the national reserve park with services. The investigation includes theoretical framework, referential projects, user, site analysis, design parameters and an architectural brief to present a well-substantiated programmatic and architectural initiative which goal is to enhance the artistic and cultural experience for the community.

Abstract:

This dissertation details original work focused on the DNA adduct N2-(1-carboxyethyl)-2'-deoxyguanosine (CEdG). This DNA adduct results from the spontaneous reaction of DNA with the endogenous and exogenous formed, carbohydrate-derived, reactive carbonyl species, methylglyoxal. Using in vitro steady state kinetics, we have shown that CEdG in template DNA leads to DNA miscoding effects when the model replicative polymerase, exonuclease-free Klenow fragment (KF-) is used. The development, validation and application of a novel stable isotope dilution, triple quadrupole mass spectrometric method for the quantitation of CEdG is also detailed. This method was used to quantitate CEdG in urine from diabetic rats, urine from human patients, human tumor and adjacent biopsy tissue, diabetic animal tissue and DNA treated with methylglyoxal. Finally, we detail the adaptation, validation and application of a novel, commercially-available microfluidic HPLC-chip for increased sensitivity in the quantitation of CEdG and also apply it to the quantitation of the RNA analogue, CEG. Combined, these studies establish CEdG as a potential biomarker for glycation and point to a viable avenue for connecting chronic glycolytic flux with genetic instability.

The guiding aspect of this paper starts from the dialogue between Theology and Psychology on the semantics of death, the psychological processes emerging from mourning – mainly in the violent loss of a child – and how the faith in the Resurrection can assist in becoming resilient in this time of grief and loss. The survey places emphasis on the concept of death and resurrection in Theology, taking, as its starting point, the death of Christ and its meaning for the Christian, the human finitude, and Christian hope in the resurrection and eternal life. The study is based on the reflection of theologians and psychologists addressing the topic in question. A field survey with twenty mothers in mourning was held, the analysis of which shows significant aspects for an interdisciplinary activity, demonstrating the relevance of the theme in offering contribution for Theology in its pastoral action, and as science, which seeks to understand the mystery of human life in all its dimensions and stages: from beginning to end of life.

Abstract:
The advent of the communication technologies engendered two conceptions of the artistic message receivers: either they’re potential victims of the contents of these messages, or they are pirates loan to plunder the artist. The right to receive is a contingent element when the artistic freedom knew a particular valuation by the ECHR. The study of the artistic freedom through the prism of the receiver has, first and foremost, for purpose to break with an all-embracing conception of the public by putting in context the artistic exchange. This thesis tries to accentuate the polymorphic character of the reception modalities and the variability of its impact. This reflection tries to distinguish the public, publics and the individual receiver according to messages which propose or which are imperative. A wide place is then granted to the freedom of choice to develop an individuality of the reception in the respect for the pluralism. This study doesn’t assert the ascendancy of the right to receive, the omnipotence of the receivers and the alienation of the artist. The right to receive also defines itself by its confrontation to the NICT and to the currents rights. This thesis approaches the question of the conciliation of the right to receive with the copyright, freedom of creation and communication and rights of the intermediaries of broadcasting. Besides, the specificity of the artistic message allows widening the reflection on the right to the reception by the convergences with cultural rights, the right to diversity and the right to education. This thesis, through the development of the rights and duties of the receivers, proposes a conception of the just balance between the rights of the various actors of the artistic freedom

Abstract:
Private international law pursues two general goals : one tends to develop the coherence and the fluidity of international legal order despite the phenomenon of the frontier ; and the other tends to insure the cohesion and the essential values of the inner legal order. These essential values naturally nourish rights guaranteed by ECHR, thus creating an imbalance risk in the subject, where only one of its goal ends out to be strengthened. The discontinuity of legal orders is though not to be feared. ECHR exerts an influence which exceeds the protection alone of the forum. It contributes to the strengthening of the international order. It reduces the chances of deficiencies and accumulations by prohibing denials of justice and by helping to the determination of the judge who has international jurisdiction. Furthermore, it responds to clumsy situations since the defect of recognition of foreign crystallized situations constitutes an interference in the rights it advocates. Consequently, the tension between the inner and the international goals of private international law will not systematically be solved to the advantage of the first. Hierarchy yields to conciliation. Now, the latter acts according to features of the subject. In this sense, the goal of protection leads to an adjusted version of the conventional standard which is seen differently when the foreign norm comes from another State part of the Convention, or from a third State. Promotion of international goal and broad implementation of inner goals, such are the two areas where private international law and ECHR law richly meet

Currently, there is no specific platform to disseminate the student association programmes at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. Students have to rely on social media and instant messaging applications to disseminate programme information, thus resulting in the slow delivery of information or the information not being received by the target groups. Hence, the Programme Management System has been developed to make it easier for students to disseminate and obtain information on association programmes. This system is developed based on the waterfall model because the system requirements are clear and the model is easy to use. A total of 20 respondents participated in the user acceptance test and answered the questionnaire provided. The results of the feedback show that the majority of respondents agreed that this system helps and facilitates students in disseminating and obtaining information on the programme organized.

Abstract:
CEDM (Control Element Drive Mechanism) controls the power of nuclear power plant by absorbing neutrons produced by nuclear fission. CEDM nozzles are installed in the reactor vessel head by shrinkage fitting and each CEDM nozzle has different length and passes through the spherical head at a different angle which may cause different stress distribution. Formerly, CEDM nozzle at the center line had been considered as a nozzle which is in the most severe condition and also it was selected to get the maximum interaction effects between the discontinuity regions. However, recent reports on nozzles which are installed in a dome infer that there are hill-side effects which may cause higher stresses than stresses on center lined nozzle and those effects should be considered. In this paper, stress distributions at three different locations of the closure head with the CEDM nozzles were evaluated. As a result, the stress intensities at a particular location of the nozzles on the hill-side are higher than those of a nozzle on the center line.

Abstract:
Introduction: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the Brazilian female population, and it is the most common malignant tumor in women in the world. The only method that has proven to decrease breast cancer mortality is mammography and, therefore, screening programs are based on this test in several countries. However, its sensitivity in the general population ranges from 75% to 80%, being especially lower in the case of dense breasts, more common in young women, ranging from 30% to 48% in this group. The most sensitive method in the detection of breast cancer is magnetic resonance imaging, (80% to 97.8%, according to current studies), due to its ability of studying vascular changes in the tissues. Aiming to combine the morphological study provided by mammography with the analysis of tumor perfusion allowed by studies that use intravenous contrasts, contrast enhanced digital mammography (CEDM) or angiomammography was developed. Objective: Assess whether CEDM is an effective method in the detection of breast cancer, as well as its reliability to rule out the presence of malignancy. Methods: Patients were recruited at the time of attendance to the service for breast percutaneous biopsy of lesions detected on previous mamography and /or ultrassound examinations, previously requested by their physicians. Those who made themselves available to participate in this study did sign the Informed Consent Form (ICF). Patients were submited to bilateral mammographic study in craniocaudal and mediolateral oblique incidences, obtaining low-energy images and recombined high-energy images. Low-energy images, equivalent to digital mammography, were described and classified according to the BI-RADS lexicon. The contrasted studies were described in order to comply with the recommendations of the current literature, observing that, until the present, there is no standardization by BI-RADS for contrast mammography reports. These studies were compared to histopathological findings of biopsies, the gold standard in this study. Results: This is an ongoing investigation. From September 2019 to October 2020, 180 patients underwent CEDM and percutaneous biopsies. 27 had invasive ductal carcinomas (IDC) and 10 ductal carcinomas in situ (DCIS). 26 of the 27 IDC cases and all of the DCIS cases had positive CEDM findings. Among DCIS cases, six had no abnormal enhancement on CEDM, but were evident on a 2D study. The observed sensitivity was 97%. Conclusions: These preliminary results demonstrated that CEDM is a highly sensitive method for breast cancer detection, including for non-invasive lesions. The study is still in progress and further data is needed to describe the benefits of CEDM in breast cancer detection.
