Abstract:
In the second half of the twentieth century, a group called the Girls’ Auxiliary (GA) became influential in the lives of many Southern Baptist girls and women. Through weekly meetings, annual camps, fund-raising, and individual mission activities, girls learned about how they could make a difference in the world through missions. In Baptist life, mission was the central work of the church. Alongside the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), which sponsored and led the girls, the GAs brought attention to the mission cause and helped in collecting funds to support it. In annual “coronations,” girls we

Remnants of a ca. 1.24 Ga old volcanic belt formed in a within-plate setting (Manicouagan Crustal Extension Belt) are exposed over several tens of kilometres in the hinterland of the central Grenville Province, and can be recognized despite granulite-facies Grenvillian metamorphism and deformation. This belt mainly consists of layered felsic–mafic rock units, some of which are documented here for the first time. In the vicinity of the 1.24 Ga belt, a Geon 14 arc-related mafic suite and a Geon 15 metasedimentary package were pervasively injected by felsic (and mafic) material, show evidence of

Nd isotopic mapping in the North Bay area of the Central Gneiss Belt, southwestern Grenville Province, has revealed the precise trend of a TDM model age line developed between the uplifted southern margin of the Archean Superior craton (TDM = 2.7 Ga) and a Paleoproterozoic allochthon (TDM = 1.9 Ga). Separating these two crustal blocks is a narrow zone of gneisses with intermediate TDM ages. These transitional gneisses are interpreted to reflect a remnant fault or ductile shear zone, of uncertain age, along which crustal material from both blocks mechanically mixed during their juxtaposition. The Canyon domain and the Banded complex in the Manicouagan area of the Grenville Province preserve a record of magmatic activity from ∼1.4 to 1 Ga. This study focuses on 1.4–1.2 Ga mafic rocks and 1 Ga ultrapotassic dykes. Geochemistry and Sm–Nd isotopic signatures were used to constrain the origin of these rocks and evaluate the changing role of the mantle with time and tectonic setting from the late evolution of the Laurentian margin to the Grenvillian orogeny, in the Manicouagan area. The Snezhnoe ruby deposit is located in the Muzkol–Rangkul anticlinorium within the Cimmerian zone of the Central Pamir. On the local scale, the deposit occurs on discrete relict bedding planes of calcitic marbles belonging to the Sarydzhilgin suite. Four ruby-bearing mineral assemblages are present within the main parts of the deposit: (1) scapolite + phlogopite + muscovite + margarite; (2) plagioclase + muscovite + margarite; (3) muscovite + phlogopite + margarite; (4) calcite.
