Detailed diagenetic and palaeomagnetic studies have been made of Permian and Triassic rocks from the Iberian Cordillera, Spain. Five stratigraphical units comprising the Autunian, Saxonian, Buntsandstein, Muschelkalk, and Keuper have been studied in a number of sections which have been well documented sedimentologically. Autuninan rocks have a characteristic remanence which is exclusively reversed and corresponds to the Kiaman Interval. The pole position identified is consistent with previous studies, which indicate the rotation of Iberia in post-Triassic times. The Saxonian facies show comple

Few dendrochronological studies have been carried out in Spain or Portugal. Mountain pine (Pinus uncinata Ram.) may be especially suitable for investigation because of its broad altitudinal range and great age. Samples from a site in the Sierra de Cebollera were prepared and dated using several cross-dating techniques. The dated series were used to develop a ring-width index chronology that was compared with local climate data. Ring-width variability is related to precipitation, but temperature can also be important, indicating a complex climate response. Future studies of this species will be

In Chapters two and three I investigate how particular notions of nobility informed the ‘ideals of life’ of the Spanish and indigenous elites in New Spain and how these evolved up to 1535. AbstractThis chapter reviews the main features of the Spanish model of fiscal federalism and its evolution over the last four decades. It begins by describing the allocation of expenditure responsibilities among the three levels of government in the country: central, regional and local. The allocation of taxes between levels of government is then presented, followed by a discussion of the role of intergovernmental transfers, with particular reference to equalization transfers. Next, we address the macroeconomic coordination and control of the subcentral deficit and indebtedness. The chapter co

Given that aridity is a long-term climatic phenomenon, we also estimate the model with local projections (Jordà, 2005) to disentangle the impact of aridity on credit to NFCs over longer horizons.
