Olena Apanovych is an outstanding researcher of Ukrainian Cossacks, who rose as a scientist in academic environment in 1945–1950s. The holdings of the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv include the castrum records of the former Kievan palatinate. In the mid-nineteenth century, they were collected by the Russian government and deposited in the newly created archive.
