Abstract:

First list of bee species of the Centre-Val de Loire region (France) declined by departments over the period 1990–2021. (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Anthophila). - This article presents the taxonomic list of bees in the Centre-Val de Loire region (France) by department over the period 1990–2021. This study reveals the presence of 287 bee species in the region, with disparities between departments: between 50 and 60 species are recorded in Indre and Eure-et-Loir, compared with almost 200 species in Loiret (182) and Loir-et-Cher (195). These results are meant as an encouragement to develop our knowledge of the bee fauna in our region.

Abstract:

Confirmation of the presence of Strophingia proxima Hodkinson, 1981, in metropolitan France (Hemiptera, Liviidae). The presence of the psyllid Strophingia proxima Hodkinson, 1981, is confirmed in Metropolitan France by recent collections in the Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire regions. We also report older collections from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. All recent specimens, as well as older ones from the Vienne department, were collected from Erica scoparia L. A diagnosis of the species is provided, and its distribution, biology and ecology are discussed.

Abstract:

Depuis le début des années 1990, l’archéologie recense en Île-de-France des vestiges des guerres contemporaines. Les premières synthèses, produites dans les années 2010, ont concerné le camp retranché de Paris, système de défense de la capitale lors de la Première Guerre mondiale. Des prospections pédestres et LiDAR en forêt ainsi que des opérations d’archéologie préventive ont en effet permis de documenter des centaines d’ouvrages de fortification de campagne. En 2018, une première approche diachronique et multiscalaire des conflits contemporains a été engagée. L’évolution des modes de défense et d’attaque de Paris de 1870 à 1940 a pu être étudiée, de l’échelle de la structure archéologique à celle de leur insertion dans un système régional. Depuis 2020, un programme collectif de recherche fédère des archéologues rattachés à divers services intervenants en régions Île-de-France et Centre-Val de Loire. Ce programme vise notamment à inventorier de manière normalisée les vestiges des conflits, à développer l’intégration de sources historiques dans un SIG ou encore à produire une recension des archives utilisables dans le cadre d’une confrontation avec les données archéologiques. L’inventaire des vestiges martiaux a permis de dégager plusieurs thématiques abordables par l’archéologie pour les régions concernées.

Abstract:

ObjectiveTo evaluate the SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among local authority workers, depending on their position and potential interaction with the public.MethodsA cohort of volunteer participants was recruited among local authority workers of the Centre Val de Loire region in France, to be tested using a rapid serological test (COVID-PRESTO). The collected data were analysed by comparing different parameters including, gender, age, position held, and contact or not with the public. The study was carried out from August to December 2020 and included 3228 participants (n=3228), from 18 to 65 years old.ResultsThe seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 among local authority workers was estimated at 3.04%. No significant difference could be observed according to the position held by the workers and whether they were or not in contact with the public. Nevertheless, a significant difference was observed between the different investigating centres, in correlation with the geographical location.ConclusionContact with members of the public was not a critical parameter for SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence as long as protective measures are applied. Among the population included in the study, childcare workers were more at risk of getting infected by the virus.Trial registration numberNCT04387968

L'analyse des données du recensement agricole de 2020 révèle une reprise de l'augmentation des surfaces irriguées et équipées en France métropolitaine, après une période de stagnation observée en 2010. En 2020, la surface agricole irriguée atteint 1,8 million d'hectares, représentant 6,8 % de la surface agricole utile (SAU) nationale. Cette dynamique est marquée par une forte hétérogénéité spatiale, influencée par des facteurs historiques, topographiques et pédoclimatiques. Les régions de la Nouvelle-Aquitaine, du Centre-Val de Loire et de l'Occitanie concentrent les plus grandes surfaces irriguées. L'étude met en évidence une diversification des cultures irriguées, avec une diminution relative de l'irrigation du maïs et une augmentation notable de celle de la vigne et des cultures industrielles. Ces résultats soulignent l'importance de l'irrigation comme réponse aux défis climatiques, tout en posant la question de la durabilité des pratiques actuelles.

Depuis les années 2010, la réduction du gaspillage alimentaire relève, en France, de l’articulation de diverses politiques publiques, entre alimentation, agriculture et économie circulaire. L’article analyse les modalités de traduction située des politiques nationales liées à la prévention du gaspillage alimentaire dans la restauration scolaire de huit communes du Centre-Val de Loire, région qui se veut exemplaire sur le sujet. La simultanéité d’actions interreliées sur la chaîne de restauration, en lien avec des approvisionnements qualitatifs, pointe des engagements municipaux réels, mais inégaux, pour une consommation responsable prévenant les gaspillages. En fonction de lectures locales du gaspillage, et de l’intérêt pour les questions alimentaires, une plus ou moins grande diversité de parties prenantes partageant ses expériences, à différents échelons, est impliquée. Or, prévenir le gaspillage alimentaire se révèle couteux en temps et en moyens, et ne peut prendre sens que dans le changement des pratiques d’alimentation, dans le cadre des transitions agro-alimentaires.

Abstract:

Termites are social insects that can also be major pests. A well-known problem species is the subterranean termite, Reticulitermes flavipes. It is invasive in France and is thought to have arrived from Louisiana during the 18th century. While the putative source of French populations has been identified, little is known about how the termite spread following its establishment. Here, we examined expansion patterns at different spatial scales in urban areas to clarify how R. flavipes spread in France. Based on our analyses of phylogeography and population genetics, results suggest a scenario of successive introductions into the Charente-Maritime region, on the Atlantic Coast. Two major expansion fronts formed: one that spread toward the northeast and the other toward the southeast. At the regional scale, different spatial and genetic distribution patterns were observed: there was heterogeneity in Île-de-France and aggregation in Centre-Val de Loire. At the local scale, we found that our three focal urban sites each formed a single large colony that contained several secondary reproductives. Our findings represent a second step in efforts to reconstruct termite’s invasion dynamics. They also highlight the role that may have been played by the French railway network in transporting termites over long distances.

Abstract:

The literature in economic geography is increasingly interested in the role of human agency in local and regional development. The understanding of the role of agents of change on path development is especially critical for small- and medium-sized towns (SMSTs), which tend to be less diversified and to have fewer localised capabilities. The town of Vierzon in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region in France is a medium-sized old industrial town in a structural crisis. It is suffering from deindustrialisation, population decline, unemployment and poverty. This article takes a micro-perspective with a case study approach to explore the creation and growth of Ledger – a frontier blockchain start-up that designs, produces and commercialises hardware wallets for cryptocurrencies – against all odds in Vierzon, France. It underlines the role of a Window of Locational Opportunity, agency, chance, the broader institutional context in the location of Ledger in an unlikely place and subsequent unrelated diversification and path creation. It contributes to the debate on the interplay between agency and structure by linking agents of change in SMSTs to the broader institutional context and to the understanding of the emergence of place-based leadership.

Abstract:

We present an overview of a study on bees carried out by the Centre Vétérinaire de la Faune Sauvage et des Écosystèmes (CVFSE, Nantes, France) between 2014 and 2018. Bees were collected through net sampling in 84 sites located in 43 cities of the French region Pays de la Loire (32 cities in Loire-Atlantique, 4 in Maine-et-Loire, and 7 in Vendée). Sampling occurred in different types of habitats: urban areas, agricultural areas, and semi-natural habitats like grasslands, woodlands, and coastal zones. This study provided information on the distribution of 278 bee species, among which several were previously unknown to the Armorican Massif (Andrena florivaga, Chelostoma distinctum, Coelioxys obtusa, Eucera clypeata, E. pannonica, Hylaeus clypearis, H. leptocephalus, H. punctatus, Lasioglossum tarsatum, Nomada errans, N. furva, N. lisenmaieri, N. rubiginosa, N. villosa, and Sphecodes pseudofasciatus). It highlighted the great bee species richness in semi-natural habitats, notably in the coastal dunes, but also in some urban or suburban sites, as long as the management is favourable to bees.

Abstract:

AbstractThe European pond turtle, Emys orbicularis, is a wide ranging species, distributed from Northwest Africa over a large part of Europe and Asia Minor to the Caspian and Aral Seas. For 106 pond turtles from France mtDNA sequence variation has been assessed, using a 1031 bp portion of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. Three of nine haploclades currently known from the entire species' range were found in France. One clade (II) is represented with four very similar haplotypes, differing by one mutation, and the two other clades (V, VI) are represented with one haplotype each. A syntopic occurrence of clades II and V is reported for the first time for the Camargue. Besides, clade II occurs in the French regions Aquitaine, Centre-Val de Loire, and Rhône-Alpes. Outside of France, it is found mainly in the catchment areas of the Danube and Oder rivers and in the Balkans. Haploclade V, which is also known from the Apennine peninsula, Sardinia, and the northern Mediterranean coast of Spain, is restricted in France to Corsica and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. A single individual bearing a haplotype of an Iberian and North African clade (VI) was found in Aquitaine near Pau. This could indicate gene flow between the Iberian peninsula and West France, if the specimen is native. The distribution of the distinct haploclades in France probably reflects Holocene range expansions, especially of haploclade II turtles. In the postglacial, haploclade II terrapins arrived from the east and spread over the Rhône corridor to the Mediterranean coast. In the southern Rhône area they met and hybridized with haploclade V turtles. Further research is needed to clarify whether this hybridization is a locally restricted phenomenon.

Dans le contexte du changement climatique, les plantations forestières sont parfois présentées comme une solution d’atténuation et d’adaptation, certes questionnable. Pour que cette option soit réellement une solution qui autorise une plus grande résilience territoriale face au changement climatique, il importe que la présence de ces plantations sur le territoire soit envisagée de manière concertée. Cette démarche est précisément en train de se mettre en place en France : après des années de controverses, les acteurs de la filière populicole et ceux impliqués dans la protection de l’environnement ou des paysages semblent désormais disposés au dialogue, notamment dans le Val de Loire, à l’initiative du CRPF (Centre régional de la propriété forestière). Dans cet article, nous analysons cet exemple, après avoir rappelé les controverses qui entourent les peupleraies et précisé la méthodologie : nous nous fondons surtout sur des observations et des entretiens. Même si elle bénéficie d’un contexte favorable (le recul des peupleraies), cette démarche apparaît comme un exemple de stratégie pour une plus grande résilience territoriale, dans la mesure où les acteurs territoriaux sont parvenus à s’accorder sur des préconisations visant à améliorer ces plantations, au moins sur le plan environnemental. Pour autant, des améliorations sont nécessaires, afin de prendre davantage en compte le volet social.

ObjectivesTo explore the patient experience of a spirometry test used to confirm chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) diagnosis in patients with suspected smoking-related COPD.DesignThis is a qualitative study, performed with open interviews in adults following a routine spirometry test to confirm COPD diagnosis. Data were analysed with a phenomenological-inspired micro-phenomenology approach.ParticipantsEligible patients were recruited through their general practitioner, 10 were interviewed.SettingPrimary care in Centre-Val-De-Loire area, France, in 2018.ResultsParticipants reported the spirometry test experience as being unfamiliar but gave meaning to the symptoms they experience. Participants expressed a desire to perform the test well and a willingness to confront their state of health. After the spirometry had been completed and the results announced, participants moved through stages of grief from their pre-spirometry self and symptom perception to a state of acceptance. Overall, participants expressed a narrative of an evolving cognitive and corporeal awareness during this spirometry experience. The verbatim quotes describe a cognitive rupture with their chronic illness usually considered as a ‘way of life’.ConclusionsA spirometry test goes beyond a diagnostic value, providing patients with an opportunity to gain awareness of their own state of health, reframe their breathlessness-related limitations and thus begin to accept the disease. These awareness gains may be considered as small steps towards health behavioural change. Spirometry may have educative potential and support lifestyle changes.

Low temperature discharges with their unique non-equilibrium properties are often used in industrial processes for the deposition of ultra-thin (plasma) polymer films. Applications for this type of thin films range from protective coatings to their use in membranes, biosensors and batteries. However, the properties of these thin films are highly dependent on the choice of discharge parameters, both in terms of their surface topography and their chemical composition. This paper deals with the great potential of pulsed discharges for the controlled deposition of plasma polymer films. The influence of pulse frequency and duty cycle on the deposition process and the properties of the resulting thin films is discussed from a theoretical point of view and is illustrated by experimental results. The latter concern examples of experiments carried out with discharges operated with acetylene or aniline, as well as functional coatings on top of MoS2, 2D graphene or CNTs. (1) Background: While inequalities in the prevalence of cancer, access to care, and survival have been well documented, less research has focused on inequalities in the uptake of supportive oncology care. Given its contribution to improving the quality of life of people affected by cancer, access to such care is a major public health issue. The present study focuses on the access and uptake of those supportive oncology care services. (2) Methods: This study is based on qualitative research methodology, using a thematic analysis tree on NVivo© analysis software. First, an exploratory survey was conducted with users of oncology services, and professionals from these services and supportive oncology care. Then, individual interviews were conducted in June 2022 among people who are currently being treated or have been treated for cancer. (3) Results: The experiences of the 33 respondents revealed that significant variations in the uptake of supportive oncology care are underpinned by identifiable disparities in their healthcare pathways: in their assimilation of information, difficulties in accessing oncology care, personal reluctance and motivations, perceived needs and benefits, and use of other medicines. (4) Conclusion: This study aims to gain some insight into disparities in the uptake of supportive care in the Centre-Val de Loire region (France). Thus, it provides a better understanding of the complex ways in which these inequalities in supportive oncology care uptake are constructed.

<p style="text-align: justify;">The behaviour of 4 grapevine varieties - Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay noir and Grolleau noir – was studied from 1988 to 1998 at the INRA experimental Station, in Montreuil-Bellay, France. Very contrasted climatic years occurred within this period. The study of some phenological stages allowed to classify the varieties in 2 groups of maturation : early for Gamay and Grolleau, late for Cabernets. The former had large berries (>2 g), the latter small berries (<1,5 g). Sugar content of Cabernets and Gamay was much higher than for Grolleau, respectively >190 g/L and <170 g/L. For a same maturity index, titratable acidity of Gamay was higher than Grolleau, and Cabernet Sauvignon higher than Cabernet franc. Malic acid was identified as explaining better the acidity level. The anthocyanin content and polyphenolic index of late varieties was superior to those of the precocious ones. The variety and the climate of the vintage play an important role on final grape composition. Berry weight, sugar content, titratable acidity and malic acid could be explained by simple climatic variables, mainly temperature and rainfall during the vegetative cycle as well as wind velocity before harvest. For the phenolic compounds, the analysis looked more complex ; it seemed that the climatic variables had only a minor effect after veraison, but the role of each one of them before this stage is still to be understood.</p>

This paper explores how maps can support water quality management as part of a common project between a water management organization (Service Départementale de L’eau du Conseil Général de Haute-Loire - France) and a research laboratory (Centre de Recherche sur l’Environnement et l’Aménagement - Université de Saint-Etienne - France). Visualization tools are proposed to bring together the different stakeholders in the negotiation process for water management. Two fundamental questions are examined here: (1) how do we communicate the different water quality information to the various stakeholders to improve their awareness of the environment; and (2) how could we evaluate the effectiveness of a cartographic visualization system in the process of negotiation between different stakeholders. Objectives To estimate the prevalence of malnutrition in elderly cancer patients and its association with frailty and primary cancer treatment recommendations in patients with the two most prevalent cancers (colorectal cancer, CRC and breast cancer, BC) in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. Methods The entire cohort of 704 patients aged 75 years or older presenting with cancer who underwent comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) between 2014 and 2017 was included. Nutritional status, frailty (defined by the Balducci classification system based on CGA parameters and comorbidity), and pathological criteria were analyzed in terms of the cancer treatment recommendations suggested by geriatricians both in the whole cohort and in those with CRC and BC. Results In the whole group of 704 patients (84.3 +/- 4.8 years), the prevalence of malnutrition was 62.9%, and was higher in CRC than in BC patients (71.1% vs 55.4%, P < 0.01). In a multivariate analysis, malnutrition and frailty (as determined by the Balducci classification system) were independently related in CRC patients (OR: 7.28, 95%CI, 1.58~34.03; P = 0.012) and were unrelated to metastasis [odds ratio (OR): 1.34, 95%CI, 0.56~3.18; P = 0.5]. By contrast, malnutrition in BC patients was related exclusively to the extent of metastasis (OR: 3.52, 95%CI, 1.50~8.24; P = 0.002). It was also demonstrated that geriatricians had a greater tendency to suggest only palliative care to CRC patients presenting with malnutrition (15.4% vs 2.7%, P = 0.006) than to BC patients (9.8% vs 5.4%, NS). Conclusion Malnutrition in elderly cancer patients is prevalent, especially in those with colorectal cancer, where malnutrition is frailty-related and may strongly impact on cancer treatment strategies.

Cet article condense les résultats obtenus lors de notre thèse de doctorat sur les hôtels particuliers de Nantes à la fin du Moyen Âge. Il met en avant l’implantation du duc et de sa cour à Nantes de manière pérenne et dont la présence a favorisé l’émergence d’une architecture édilitaire. Partant de ce constat, il montre les relations de ces dignitaires avec le pouvoir ducal puis avec l’autorité royale. Cet article analyse également les caractéristiques architecturales de ces hôtels et le mode de vie de leurs habitants afin de définir ce qu’est un hôtel nantais. Enfin, par l’intermédiaire de leur typologie et de leur décor, il montre les influences qui les unissent en faisant ressortir leurs traits communs et leurs particularismes tout en les mettant en perspective avec les édifices bretons et ceux du Val de Loire. Cela dans le but de faire valoir les mécanismes qui ont, semble-t-il, permis à Nantes d’être la première place du duché, offrant ainsi au duc la possibilité de rivaliser avec le roi de France.

This article presents recent initiatives in the fields of Digital Heritage and digital mapping by researchers attached the Centre d'études supérieures de la Renaissance (CESR) in Tours, France. During the fifteenth and early sixteenth century the city of Tours, situated in the heart of France in the valley of the river Loire, was one of the main residences of the French kings and this had important consequences for the nature of artistic production and for social aspects of urban life. Making use of the latest developments in Digital and Spatial Humanities, researchers attached to the CESR have created an interactive digital map of historical Tours; several crosslinked databases of artworks and archival sources from Tours; an enriched 3D model of an artistic masterpiece, the funeral monument of deceased royal children; an interactive historical graphic novel; and a GPS-led app with an historical guided tour of the city. These digital projects all have in common that they bring together the outcomes of scientific historical and art historical research with digital applications, as a starting point for further research, and for public outreach activities.

<p style="text-align: justify;">The use of sensory analysis for the winemaking industry is an interesting tool for objective evaluation of wine quality. Its development forces us to properly define and to adapt the methodology of tasting to this particular product – wine. The development of methodology of sensory analysis adapted to the wine industry constitutes one of the objectives of research carried out by the team of research from the laboratory GRAPPE of ESA (Ecole Supérieure d’Agriculture of Angers) in collaboration with Interprofession of the Wines of the Loire. The influence of scaling techniques on sensory evaluation results was studied during the setting up of a wine sensory trained panel and in order to obtain objective and pertinent characterisations of wine. Three different scales were used : a 10-point category scale ; a line scale consisting of a line where each taster’s appreciation is converted to a mark between 0 and 10 ; a scale mixing the first two.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">For each scale, five red wines from different appellations of Val de Loire – France were tested by the wine trained panel of the Laboratoire GRAPPE. Each set was repeated once. The products discrimination was better with the line scale and the category one. Nevertheless, interactions between judges and products were higher with the first. Results were less satisfactory with the category line scale. This method seemed to be less discriminating and interactions were more important. This fact can be explained by the different use of the scale by tasters. This study enabled us to verify the impact of the number of wine tested in the same session. Indeed, some attributes were significantly higher for the repeated wines. These results might justify establishing a different order of passage of wine for each assessor, thus minimising the order effect.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">This experimentation opens interesting perspectives for the optimisation of sensory analysis methodology in the winemaking industry. Complementary studies are taking place in the Laboratoire GRAPPE.</p>

Abstract:

Une campagne de prospections géophysiques par tomographie en résistivité électrique a été effectuée afin d’améliorer la connaissance du site des grottes d’Azé. Cette technique d’investigation du sous-sol consiste à déplacer un quadripôle le long d’un profil linéaire et à mesurer l’intensité du courant injecté et de la différence de potentiel générée entre les électrodes de réception. Ces données permettent de calculer la résistivité électrique des terrains et de reconstituer ses variations tout au long du profil. Cinq profils ont été établis : les trois premiers ont couvert le parc des grottes ; de longueurs identiques, 235 m, parallèles les uns aux autres ils ont permis de sonder le parc sur une profondeur de 30 m au centre du profil. Les modèles de résistivité obtenus ont mis en évidence l’existence d’une troisième grotte de taille importante complètement remplie de sédiments. De déterminer l’ampleur de la coulée de solifluxion qui est à l’origine de la fermeture de la grotte de la Rivière Souterraine mais également de mettre en évidence d’autres phénomènes karstiques. Le quatrième profil traversait entièrement la vallée de la Mouge en contrebas des grottes. Associé avec le troisième profil, il a montré un écoulement d’eau pouvant correspondre à une cavité servant de drain aux eaux d’infiltration de la Grotte Préhistorique. Il a aussi montré l’existence des paléo-lits de la Mouge. Le dernier profil établi débute devant le porche d’entrée de la Grotte Préhistorique au sud et se termine au fond de la galerie de Chauffailles 300 m plus au nord. Il traverse les salles où se trouvent les gisements paléontologiques d’Azé 1-1, Azé 1-2 et Azé 1-3. Les résultats obtenus montrent clairement les relations entre la galerie supérieure dite Grotte Préhistorique (où se trouvent Azé 1-1, Azé 1-2 et Azé 1-3) et une galerie inférieure distincte correspondant dans sa partie nord à la galerie de Chauffailles et dans sa partie sud à la galerie des Aiglons et donc au gisement paléontologique d’Azé 1-5. Les relations entre ces deux galeries sont limitées. La taphonomie des différents gisements d’Azé 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5 et 1-6 est directement liée aux relations qui existent ou pas entre ces deux réseaux. Ces résultats ont permis de proposer un modèle en trois dimensions de la cavité.

Pour obtenir un panorama actuel de la recherche équine en France et dans le monde, une étude bibliométrique a été réalisée à partir des publications scientifiques concernant le cheval et recensées dans les bases CAB abstracts de CAB International et Current Contents de l’Institute for Scientific Information au cours des années 1998-2000. Après une structuration thématique combinant méthodes bibliométriques et avis d’experts, ces articles ont été ventilés en fonction des thématiques étudiées, des localisations des équipes signataires et du support de communication. Le fichier final comporte 6775 publications, pour deux tiers issues de journaux scientifiques, 31 % provenant de journaux de transfert et 6 % de comptes rendus de congrès. Plus de la moitié des contributions traitent de pathologie. Viennent ensuite la locomotion et médecine sportive (17 %), la reproduction (11 %). La nutrition et la génétique se partagent 9 % des contributions. Les autres thématiques définies en sciences du vivant sont le comportement et bien-être, les espèces asines et les équidés sauvages, le dopage. Environ 4 % des notices relèvent des sciences humaines et sociales. L’Amérique du Nord et l’Union Européenne constituent les deux principaux pôles de recherche mondiaux avec 40 et 36 % des articles chacun. La France occupe la 7ème place (3,4 % des articles scientifiques) derrière les USA, le Royaume-Uni (12,5 %), l’Allemagne (6,3 %), le Japon (4,3 %), le Canada (3,8 %) et l’Australie (3,8 %). La France remonte à la 4ème place si l’on si l’on considère l’ensemble des articles. Ceci illustre l’importance de la littérature de transfert ou de comptes rendus de colloques. La France apparaît relativement spécialisée sur la reproduction, le dopage et les sciences humaines et sociales, avec en revanche un investissement relatif moindre sur le comportement et la pathologie.
