The main aim of this thesis is an introduction to reception of the youth and childrens literature (YCL) and a practical probe targeted on the readers reception of Little Nicolas by R. Goscinny and J.-J. Sempé in contemporary Czech environment. Today, fifty years after the issue of the first book of the series, Little Nicholas is already a classical work of not only the French YCL, but the worlds YCL in general. We were trying to establish how this general popularity of the book shows in an individual reading experience of one young recipient. In the first, theoretical part of the thesis (parts II to V), a brief historical overview of the YCL is introduced, particularly with regard to the Czech and French cultural areas. The present state and the tendencies of the theoretical research in the area of YCL are summarised, as well as some of the basic characteristics of its form and subject matter. Finally, the conclusion of the theoretical part of the thesis tackles the question of the reception itself. We look at it at first from a universal perspective, later we centre on some specifics of literary communication of the child recipient, in particular some approaches causing concretization of the literary text in the childs consciousness. The Meander publishing house is annually involved in encouraging children to read through the festival called "Děti, čtete?" (Children, do you read?). The Meander publishing house offers the quality outstanding books which resulted in increasing of the literacy level of the Czech Republic. The publishing house is connected with the name Petr Nikl, an author, artist, theater artist and musician. Abstract:
Master thesis Zlatý máj - Magazine about Children's Literature and Art and the Personality of Z. K. Slabý follows foundation and history of Czechoslovak literary journal Zlatý máj. It has been published from September 1956 till December 1997, when 391 issues came out in forty one volumes. The magazine experienced its golden era in 1960s, when it participated not only in domestic, but also in international discussions about children and youth literature. But it also endured through the time of so called normalization (1969 - 1989), when most of literary or cultural magazines perished, and its final end was brought by lack of finance after formation of democratic Czech Republic. The name of writer and literary critic Zdeněk Karel Slabý has been tied to Zlatý máj for the most of its existence. He acted at first as the redactor, in two periods as editor in chief (1968 - 1971, 1990 - 1992) and at last as a member of board of editors. As a part of his job, but also because of his active and creative nature he shaped or co-shaped the image of Zlatý máj. His authorial signature is visible in his texts, his opinions and preferences formed the sections and content of the magazine. Master thesis analyses the work of Z. K. Slabý and defines its place and importance in context of the literary theory and critique.

The diploma thesis The Bible and Its Adaptations for Children addresses the question of the quality of children's Biblical adaptations. It aims to compile a comprehensive set of criteria based on relevant literature which children's adaptations should meet. The second chapter describes children's literature in terms of its specifics and psychological characteristics of young readers. A special place in this chapter belongs to myth (as one of the essential biblical genres) and the Bible itself, and the examination of their place in children's literature. The chapter on children's literature also includes a section the aim of which is to explain the role of illustration in children's books and to remind us of its crucial position in children's literature. The following chapter deals with the term adaptation, first from the general literary point of view, and then it focuses on the child recipient and the peculiarities of adapting the Bible. TITLE: "Two different views on education presented in the children's and youth literature in the first and second half of the 20th century. - A comparison of selected novels by Erich Kästner and Christine Nöstlinger." AUTHOR: Hedwiga Kašlík DEPARTMENT: Department of German language and literature SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Tamara Bučková, Ph. D. ABSTRACT: The thesis compares two different views on education presented in the children's and youth literature in the first and second half of the 20th century with the help of selected works. The first focus is on Erich Kästner, as a representative of the pre-war generation, and his novels Emil und die Detektive (1929) and Das fliegende Klassenzimmer (1933). The second author is the Austrian writer Christine Nöstlinger, who began her literary action in 70s of the 20th century. Abstract:
This thesis analyses the dramatizations of larger epic units, which have appeared on the Czech national (or regional) shows of children's theatre since 1989. After characterizing the role of dramatic text created for the theatre played by children, the work attempts to establish the evaluation criteria for the dramatization of the investigated area. With regard to the artistic and educational objectives, the work compares the composition, language and thematic basis of selected texts. At the centre of attention are those means of adaptation which acquire particular significance especially in connection with a child actor; ways of creating adult characters, the depiction of the inner world of children's heroes etc. The main task of this text analysis is to answer the question about how far the authors were able to get within the narrow borders brought on by focusing on child actors up to fifteen years of age.

Abstract:
This Master Thesis is focused on analysis of media response to editions Fresh and Raketa of publishing house Labyrint in the context of history of publishing practice in the Czech Republic in the nineties. It also discusses contemporary literature for children and youth. Thesis studies critical media response to three particular books from studied editions Tajemství oblázkové hory by Bára Dočkalová, Robinson by Petr Sís and Plyš by Michal Hvorecký. Novel Plyš by Michal Hvorecký was covered the most in the media. The smallest number of articles was published about Tajemství oblázkové hory by Bára Dočkalová. Even though it was nominated for Magnesia Litera Award, it did not win the price in the end. The closing part focuses on a unique project by publishing house Labyrint, a magazine for children called Raketa. Media attention is focused on creators of magazine, either it is the owner of publishing house Labyrint Joachim Dvořák or its chief editors Johana Švejdíková and Radana Litošová. Critical reflection is rare, there are mostly short notes recommending buying the magazine or describing a new issue. There is a broad spectrum of media chosen for this analysis, from news media to cultural and literary periodical such as Tvar, Host, A2 and catalog Nejlepší knihy dětem.

Abstract:
The dissertation thesis examines czech literary censorship after 1989. It presents a polemical addition to a monograph published one year earlier entitled V obecném zájmu [In the General Interest], which covered the same period. The main methodological resource is represented by the books of a British theatrologist Helen Freshwater, who based her inclusive model of censorship on the border crossing of hard and soft censorship. Moreover, she moved her emphasis on discourse as the main indicator of what is considered a censor´s intervention in a particular historical moment. The core of the thesis consists of four chapters, which on the basis of the original research examine the typical cases of censorship and related discourse. These chapters are included in a broader frame of a changing notion of censorship and political correctness in the discussed period. The chapter devoted to the banned skinhead music group Braník is based on the examination of the respective court´s files and the analysis of the changing notion of freedom of speech in the beginning of the 1990s. The chapter about the censorship of literature for children and youth is based on the comparison of various editions of books written by Bohumil Říha. Furthermore, the conditions are observed, under which the interventions to these new editions were identified as censorship. Censorship on internet is treated in the chapter devoted to the regulation of the virtual (literary) child pornography, while the chapter devoted to political correctness focuses on texts and paratexts of splatterpunk literature. This doctoral work should offer a complex picture of changing ways of censorship and thinking after 1989.

TITLE Motifs of Sorbian Lusatia in contemporary literature focusing on the genre of modern fairy-tale AUTHOR Bc. Tereza Valášková DEPARTMENT Department of German Studies SUPERVISOR PhDr. Tamara Bučková, Ph.D ABSTRACT This master thesis deals with the motifs of Sorbian Lusatia in the selected modern fairy-tales in contemporary children's and young adult literature. The problem is explained on the basis of fifteen books by eight Sorbian writers and one German writer. The motifs of Sorbian Lusatia are sought in the Sorbian cultural history, mythology and folklore. This master thesis wants to prove, if motifs of Sorbian Lusatia are used in contemporary children's and young adult literature of the selected authors in the genre of modern fairy-tale. It demonstrates that the issues associated with the culture of this West Slavic minority are in contemporary, especially in Sorbian, but also German literature, a popular source of multicultural enrichment in Europe, which is threatened by monoculture. The methods include especially motif analysis, verification or falsification of the hypothesis, then interpretation and comparison. 99 Summary The topic of this Diploma thesis focuses on Fictionalization of History in History Teaching. This area is closely connected with Eduard Štorch. Eduard Štorch was an amateur archaeologist, a very good writer and an undervalued teacher. Based on topics which he drew from a variety of archaeological research projects he created and wrote adventure stories which can be classified as somewhere between fiction and popular science stories in which he described oldest periods of Czech history. His books are still recognised today as the very best of their kind and they have been translated into a number of foreign languages. As a teacher, Štorch did his utmost to improve children's education. At his own expense and almost single-handedly he built a "Children's Farm" on Libeňský ostrov in Prague. It was meant as a place for educating children not only inside a classroom but also in the middle of nature. Children from other schools in Prague were encouraged to use the outdoors facilities there in their free time as well. Eduard Štorch tried to promote and enforce changes in the teaching of all school subjects but concentrated on the teaching of history. For this purpose he published several books such as "The Reform of the History Taught at Schools" (Reforma školního dějepisu; 1905), "The New History"...
