In the context of their criticism, the authors of the texts in question refer to the epoch of early Christendom and to the emergence of the first monasteries. Abstract:
The work deals with the history of the Cistercian Order in Vyšší Brod in the first half of the 20th century. It gives an account of political and religious events of those times and also reminds important milestones from the turn of the 18th and 19th century which influenced the 20th century {--} in particular the religious reforms carried out by Josef II and his closing down some monasteries. Founding the Diocese of České Budějovice counts among the positive acts of this emperor. The work also describes the impact of the two World Wars. Compulsory transfer of Germans after the World War Two and following fourty years lasting religious infringement strongly affected the life of the Cistercian Monastery in Vyšší Brod. Thanks to the newly gained liberty in November 1989 the life in the monastery could be renewed. Two monks came back to the monastery, both survived the time when the communists were in power, the older one also lived through the Nazi totalitarian system. New monastic life candidates came to the monastery, at present there are seven monks living there.

Metoděj Habáň (1899-1984): A Probe into the History of Czech Neothomism Abstract The thesis is focused on the depiction of the life and work of Metoděj Habáň (1899-1984), Czech Dominican priest and philosopher. It follows two main goals: First, it strives to present accurate reconstruction of Habáň's life and his involvement in the Czech Church and society. Secondly, it presents Metoděj Habáň's thinking as a specific type of Thomism and analyse his work in the context of the paradigmatic changes, which the Church and society went throught in the 20th century. The thesis is therefore divided into two main parts - first is focused on Habáň's life, second on his work. In the first chapter it present main sources of inspiration for his work and thinking. In the following chapters it describes his life journey, beginning with his studies and spiritual formation within the Dominican order. It continues with his role in the inner life of the order in the position of Novice Master and Prior Provincial (1938-1942). Attention is also paid to his involvement in the public life of the interwar society. In the period after the second world war we follow Metoděj Habáň to Litoměřice, a town in northwest Bohemia and we describe his imprisonment in the 1950s and subsequently his involvement in public life in the 1960s. Abstract:
Charles University in Prague, Catholic Theological Faculty Thesis, Prague 2013 ABSTRACT Ecclesiology of Tomáš Bavorovský († 1562) Jaroslav Havrlant Catholic preacher Tomáš Bavorovský (Thomas of Bavorov) is still a quite unknown personality of Bohemian renaissance. He is the representative of the Church loyal to the Pope in Rome shortly before the end of the Trident council and the arrival of Jesuits to Prague. The result of my study aimed at his ecclesiological approach is my thesis, which contains five chapters. The first three chapters are concerned with common historical facts of his time as well as with life and work of the preacher. The others focus on his interpretation of the Church and the Kingdom of God. The first chapter describes specific situation of Bohemian reformation, which was different from the neighboring countries because of its Hussite tradition and Utraquistic Church. Tomáš Bavorovský worked mostly in Catholic south and west Bohemian towns (Bavorov, Český Krumlov, Jindřichův Hradec, Plzeň). Therefore I describe in short also their religious history in this chapter. The part concerning the personality of the preacher starts with describing him as a writer. In chronological sequences it presents the writers who have written about him. Even though Tomáš Bavorovský was quite famous author...

The focus of the thesis is (apart from the comparism of the point of view of the authors on personality and reign of Rudolph II. with the aspect on the ideal of the sovereign at that time) the description of their life and work as well, because some of them haven't been subject of interest of the researchers so far. The thesis brings also the stylistic and content escription of their historiographical works and selected passages from them are edited in the final part of the work.

Abstract:
This master´s thesis informs about community of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in České Budějovice in the years 1920-1948. The thesis highlights the membership of this church and how it grew in the early 1920?s, it also focuses on the establishment of the house called Husův sbor, on communities existing within the church, and on the reflections of other townspeople on this church. There are three main sources for this thesis: the documents of a private archive of this church in České Budějovice, the documents belonging to the State District Archive in České Budějovice and the documents accessible on the webpage of the State Regional Archive in Třeboň. Additionally, regional newspapers from that time were used. The aim of this thesis is to study the history of this second largest denomination in České Budějovice, which appears to be rather neglected in the Czech scholarly literature. The author believes that the thesis could contribute to a better understanding of this church and of the history of České Budějovice.

Andrle, Jan. "Kult sv. Františka Xaverského v českých zemích raného novověku." Master's thesis, 2011. http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-313490.

Full text
Abstract:
The work deals with the dissemination, duration, transformations and reception of the cult of an important Jesuit Saint, St. Francis Xavier, in the early modern Czech lands. Its goal is to contribute to the better understanding of the reality of the re-catholicization after the Battle of White Montain and the forms of Czech spirituality of the 17th and 18th century. This particular cult was selected because of the fact that St. Francis Xavier was closely related to the main (or most prominent) participant of the re-catholicization, i. e. the Jesuit order, where he in the informal hierarchy of Saints occupied the second place immediately after the founder of the Society St. Ignacius of Loyola. Moreover, St. Francis Xavier belonged among the five new Catholic Saints canonized in 1622 (St. Ignacius of Loyola, St. Francis Xavier, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Philipp Neri, and St. Isidore of Madrid), who represented an important constituent of the revived post-Tridentine Catholic spirituality. However, although the existing secondary literature presupposes that the reverence to St. Francis Xavier was widespread in the Czech Baroque, no systematic study of this theme was realized untill now. First chapter deals with the specification of the theme of the work, maps existing knowledge and sources available and...
