Abstract:
The chachapoya tradition developed between 800 and 1470 A. D. On the Eastern slopes of the Northern Peruvian Andes. It is made up of different peoples although for research purposes they are treated as one in their cultural portrayal. The aim of this thesis is to show that the apparent unity and the differences revealed in chachapoya remains lead to the identification of different peoples and their geographical spread and to prove that by archaeology one is able to detect the separate characteristics. The study was carried out from the analysis of architectural elements, iconography, types of burial sites and related funeral rites as well as their ceramic artefacts
