Abstract:
Abstract: This article includes a review of the basic scientific publications of Chaim Perelman and Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca. Attempts to reconceptualize ancient rhetoric in its part on argumentation are presented. Conclusions are drawn after reviewing the publications of other scholars studying argumentation. It is presented as part of fundamental rhetorical knowledge, together with projections into the legal/legal sphere and into politics. Projections of argumentation in the speaker's behavior and in his goal to achieve persuasion while respecting ethical norms, rules and morality are identified. Intersections between rhetoric, philosophy, and argumentation are presented. The contribution of rhetoric to humanistic knowledge is demonstrated through a critical review of the scholarly publications of Chaim Perelman and Lucie Olbrecht-Tyteca and other scholars publishing in the fields of rhetoric and philosophy in the 20th and 21st centuries. Keywords: rhetoric, argumentation, argument, philosophy, Haim Perelman, Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca.

Abstract:
This article explores an understudied aspect of Jewish rhetoric—restrictions against speaking lashon hara (evil speech, libel, gossip)—to contribute to the field’s understanding of Jewish rhetorical traditions. In reading Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan’s (1838-1933) treatise Chafetz Chaim (1873), this article shows how Jewish speech laws function as an ontological, nonagonistic, and ethical community-oriented rhetoric. In reading the Chafetz Chaim, this article shows that Kagan’s exigency in compiling the speech laws was in response to anti-Semitism and Enlightenment era Haskalah Judaism. The dialogic rhetoric found in Chafetz Chaim provides ethical and methodological lessons for contemporary rhetorical scholars, lessons that resonate with important twentieth century Jewish rhetorics.

Abstract:
This thesis aims to examine the work and critical and popular reception of Parisian painter Chaim Soutine (1893-1943) in the contexts of four main readings: Soutine's interrogation of the visual traditions and iconographies of the past; his lifelong interest in the themes, forms and meanings of Christian visual culture; the implications of a series of artist-imposed 'frames' in relation to Soutine's more general practice of reframing existing motifs in his own compositions; and popular receptions of the artist and his work. These areas of focus represent new engagement with Soutine's art and depart from the dominant critical trends at work in Soutine studies to date. Critics have typically read Soutine's work within biographical, anecdotal or stylistic contexts, writing a highly individual-centred narrative of this artist's practice and oeuvre, which has established Soutine as a particular type of artist. Within that narrative he is cast in an expressionist persona and his work is a direct articulation of emotional intensity, even madness. Framing Soutine's art in this way fails to position it historically, culturally or artistically and also obscures more significant aspects of his production active throughout his career. The aspects of Soutine's art forming the focus of this thesis, listed above, run counter to traditional patterns of engagement by focusing on issues less concerned with (but which do not completely do away with) biography. Their study thus offers the opportunity for Soutine's art-historical repositioning. This task is now considerably overdue, a fact especially evident in the perpetuation of established critical trends in the most recent contributions to Soutine studies in 2008. This thesis presents a new view of Chaim Soutine and his art and suggests how he should be positioned in future art history - rather than an acerebral, inexperienced artist, new approaches to his work reveal Soutine as a targeted, purposeful painter, whose practice engages with and challenges some of art history's most enduring concerns.

Abstract:
The present thesis aims to investigate Perelman´s proposal of a New Rhetoric, and by doing so, it intends to achieve a better understanding of philosophical discourse. The most important objectives of this work are: defining the fundamental concepts and distinctions of a new theory of argumentation; investigating the specificity of philosophical argumentation - through the clarification of the concept of universal audience -: and finnally analyzing the relationship between persuading and convincing and between contextualism and universalism - establishing, therefore, the Perelman´s place in the contemporany debate concerning argumentation. It is pointed out the closeness between Perelman´s and Haberman´s thoughts, as well as the distance between Perelman´s thinking and Rorty´s and Apel´s. It is shown how, depending of the point of view - if it is internal or external to the audience -, philosophy can be regarded as a discourse bounded by a given context or, on the othrer hand, as an open argumentation aiming at the universal.

Abstract:
Judaism is the essence of Chaim Potok's work. Potokian fiction, a profound immersion in the world of orthodox American Jewry, claims to mirror this reality. Potok's realistic perspective, aided by his descriptive technique, provides an accurate testimony of this world. The first part of this thesis concentrates on the geographical and sociological contexts of the wolrd depicted by Potok, while the second part focuses on a portayal of the Jewish-American community as it grapples with History. Potokian fiction cannot be understood as merely a portrait of reality, its didactic and ideological functions prevent such simplification. Indeed, the content of Potok's writing reveals the author's Hebraic ethical heritage : thus, this third part of this study focuses on the ethical and mystical aspects of his fiction. The problem of evil is woven into all of Potok's work, with Cabbalistic thought a particularly pregnant influence in this respect. As the Shoah is at the heart of his reflection on the notion of evil, Potok offers a true philosophical examination of the inexpressible

MELCER, ALAIN. Strasbourg 2, 2000. http://www.theses.fr/2000STR20007.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:

In ASME 2016 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers and Information in Engineering Conference. Abstract:
The five types of kinematic chains that generate the planar motion group SE(2) of dimension three, with the prismatic-joint direction always perpendicular with the revolute-joint axis in each chain, have shown their effectiveness and manifested the charm in type synthesis and mechanism analysis in parallel mechanisms. This paper extends the traditional PRP kinematic chain generating the planar motion group SE(2) to a relatively general case, in which one of the prismatic joint-direction is not necessarily perpendicular with the revolute-joint axis, leading to the discovery of a screw motion with a variable pitch in this kinematic chain. Following the extraction of a screw motion from this particular PRP kinematic chain, this paper presents the bifurcated motion in a 3-PUP parallel mechanism by changing the active geometrical constraint in its configuration space, with a Lie group approach and interpretation. The constraint-singularity configuration sets for bifurcation of the 3-PUP parallel mechanism. The paper hence provides a Lie group representation and geometry interpretation for the kinematic equivalence of serial chains and the bifurcated motion of a parallel mechanism.

Abstract:
Abstract: Deep transdisciplinary learning is essential to responding to the current collapse of human societies and ecosystems and to building a more sustainable, just future for all living creatures. Our modern civilizations, which are built around ideas of neverending technoscientific progress and neoliberal values of market fundamentalism, and individualism, are destroying planetary health. Fundamental shifts in ethics and thinking about our relationships to nature and each other are needed to prevent our species from joining the human accelerated Sixth Extinction. Lifelong learning based on emotionally powerful and joyful experiences needs to focus on the complexly interconnected issues that constitute the social, political, economic, and ecological-based metacrisis. Universities need to transform through supporting the boundary exploration and future-orientated nature of transdisciplinary scholarship. Intergenerational teams embedded in the community congregated around tables rather than solo professors occupying chairs may be a creative vehicle for organizational transformation. Experiences with transdisciplinary programs at Case Western Reserve University, University of Oxford, Brown University, and Johns Hopkins University will be described that demonstrate a diversity of responses to the challenges of academic reorganization in the metacrisis, but also showcase common border spanning activities and commitment to innovative and socially transformative, transdisciplinary scholarship.

CARREY, Eric. "Economics of Care and Meaningfulness for an International Transdisciplinary Chair." In For an international transdisciplinary chair. ADJURIS – International Academic Publisher, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.62768/adjuris/2024/2/05.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract: The term ‘care’ was introduced into societal debates in the early 1980s with the writings of Carol Gilligan, Janet Finch and Dulcie Groves, and later Joan Tronto. The notion of care associates an individual and moral disposition (taking an interest in others) with an idea of activity (helping, taking care of others) mobilizing the individual, collective and institutional levels. Such behavior lies outside the paradigm of economics based on the logic of homo oeconomicus. In line with what anthropologists are telling us today, it goes beyond the pursuit of individual interest and calls on the logic of giving and the community dimension of the human being. The economy of care and meaning thus integrates two dimensions that conventional economics ignores. On the one hand, the idea of gift and gratuity, and on the other, the consideration of the common good. The economy of care and meaning, beyond its economic dimension, thus calls, in a transdisciplinary perspective, on other academic fields: sociology, anthropology and political science.

Abstract: Write the abstract in English first if the original article is in The research takes place in the field of Higher Education and Research-Action. It presents the experience and research results of Centro de Estudios Universitarios Arkos (CEUArkos) of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, to implement transdisciplinarity in the university as well as some of the processes and learning achieved with such an experience, based on seven major university strategies created for a transdisciplinary and complex education. The contribution is given by the presentation of a real experience in a university and on a global scale in a specific Higher Education Institution: CEUArkos, which since the year 2006 has been exploring and experimenting with the members of its community (teachers, students, managers, directors) the ways to guide the transition from disciplinary to transdisciplinary university education in all its educational programs. Those strategies are proposed as a basis to inspire an International Transdisciplinary Chair.

Abstract:
Abstract: The role and importance of each country in the world economy are in direct dependence on how much it owns high technology. Engineering is what makes technology possible and the flexibility in the nature of this engineering and the type of engineers trained to solve complexities facing our world is of paramount importance. Engineering education is developing as a link in the system of continuous education and is intended to meet the needs of the individual, society and state in the training of specialists with a high level of professional competence and mobility. Aristotelian-based engineering science is not prepared to tackle modern complexities affecting our world today because it is limited in mechanics and scope, it also does not understand this because it is empirical analytical-based. A new type of engineering science that can foresee such occurrences, understand its microphysics and mechanics, even predict them and craft suitable engineering-based preparedness (along with suitable systems technologies for tackling them) lies in the integration of the Transdisciplinary scientific logic and process, the in between and hidden third that today’s engineering science does not consider. This new engineering can only be achieved through the consideration of a Transdisciplinary chair which would infuse Transdisciplinary culture in academia. The case of this new engineering systems science is used for substantiating the call for a Transdisciplinary chair and an aspect of Transdisciplinary systems engineering used for unifying entropy and order, to produce intelligence explained as further evidence.

Abstract:
Abstract: The Transdisciplinary Chair in the Context of Leadership in Organizations is an innovative academic position that promotes the integration of multiple disciplines to address the complex challenges of leadership in the modern organizational environment. This chair seeks to transcend traditional boundaries between fields of study, encouraging collaboration among experts in corporate management, psychology, sociology, information technology, and other relevant areas to develop leaders capable of navigating and thriving in an everevolving business landscape. AI has played a critical role in improving the operational efficiency of organizations. The future will see an even deeper integration of this technology into the leadership context. AI will not replace leaders, but will serve as a strategic enabler, empowering them with predictive analytics, enabling more informed and faster decision-making. The future of leadership in organizations is shaping up at a rapid pace, in line with the evolution of emerging technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI). The leadership of the future will be characterized by collaboration between humans and machines. The human skills of empathy, creativity and intuition, combined with the analytical precision and data processing capacity of AI, will create a hybrid leadership model. However, the best leaders cannot be replaced by AI, and the adversities that arise in the applicability of AI have the need to identify and improve leadership skills with a transdisciplinary approach eminent, in order to enhance and help leadership focus its cognitive energy, improve its collaborative and problem-solving skills.

Optimization of Secondary Wastewater Reuse to Minimize Environmental Risks. United States Department of Agriculture, December 1999. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/1999.7573077.bard.

Full text
Abstract:
The main purpose of the research was to examine approaches and to evaluate methods for minimizing the risks during applying treated domestic wastewater for agricultural irrigation. This general purpose consisted of examining under field conditions the possibilities when implementing different application technologies for minimizing health and environmental risks. It was assumed that Subsurface Drip Irrigation (SDI) will provide adequate conditions for safe effluent reuse. Controlled field experiments where conducted in commercial fields to evaluate the alternatives. Main efforts where conducted in Israel in the grape vineyard in Arad heights, in the field crops in Kibbutz Chafets Chaim and in Arizona in fields adjacent to the University campus. The complementary part was to examine the behavior of the various pathogens in the effluent-soil-plant system. The analysis is based on controlled experiments, primarily in greenhouse along with field experiments. Molecular biology methods were used to identify the behavior of the pathogens in the components of the system. The project included as well examining the effluent quality in various sites, primarily those in which treated wastewater is reused for agricultural irrigation. The monitoring included conventional parameters however, also parasites such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. The results obtained indicate the prominent advantages of using Subsurface Drip Irrigation (SDI) method for minimizing health and environmental risks during application of secondary effluent. A theoretical model for assessing the risks while applying treated wastewater was completed as well. The management model shows the risks during various scenarios of wastewater quality, application technology and related human exposure.
