Full textThe present study focuses on the southern Taiwan Central Range, located at the transition between subduction and arc-continent collision. Field-work and structural analysis shows that deformation in the southern Central Range presents two major and distinct structural domains: a west-verging structural unit roughly limited to the western divide, and an east-verging unit, covering most of the eastern divide. The structural units are limited by a steeply west-dipping shear zones displaying a dominant late stage normal faulting and an early strike-slip faulting stage. Zircon fission track dating (FT) along a vertically sampled profile reveal onset of cooling at 7.2 Ma at a minimum rate of 21°C/m.y., followed by an order of magnitude acceleration of exhumation after ca. 3.2 Ma and increase of geothermal gradients from ~41°C/km to 65°C/km. Detrital zircon and apatite FT derived from Plio-Pleistocene sediments from the southwestern foreland basin display the erosion of the western divide cover rocks with ages similar to the early phase seen in the hinterland. Geomorphic analysis of the southern Central Range reveals the existence of low relief at high altitudes, located along the drainage divide and locally on top of the metamorphic core. Morphological and climatic considerations indicate the likely glacial origin of these surfaces. The spatial coincidence of the southernmost low-relief surfaces with the southernmost exposure of the metamorphic core at the main divide suggest a potential role of glaciations in the recent exhumation of the metamorphic core in Taiwan, and probably in other low-latitude orogens

Full textIn this thesis, weathering of hiking trails has been studied in the low mountain ranges of the Massif Central (Auvergne, France) through the morphological comparison of four sectors in the Massif du Sancy and the Chaîne des Puys, each one presenting different erosion stages and rhythms of evolution. Our methodological approach is based on the crossing of three unpublished field datasets: topographic data, climate data and cartography of hiker behavior. High resolution topographic data mobilized three complementary data collection methods (terrestrial laser scanning, GPS monitoring and manual monitoring). Cross-analysis of all these data allowed us to: (1) quantify erosion and depositional volumes; (2) map the weathering sensitivity of studied areas; (3) identify the seasonality of weathering processes; (4) propose an operational evaluation tool for the management of hiking trails in low mountain ranges. Weathering quantification results show a clear differentiation of the studied areas. This contrasting erosion gradient has been proved to be linked to: local bioclimatic parameters which command the seasonality of weathering processes, irregular touristic attendance and substratum durability. In response to this erosion, varied management were introduced (guideline, wattle fence, low wall, water bars ...) and globally effective. Nevertheless, it appears that a refinement of the positioning adjustments, based on an understanding of weathering processes over a longer period would optimize the protective role of these structures

Full textWith the gradual increase of the milk quotas until their abolition planed in 2015, dairy farmers loose a mean to control competition among producers and between areas. This political change and the consequential markets’ transformation question the future of mountain dairy farming. The objective of this work is to propose a conceptual framework to analyse the change of competition regime in the dairy industry and to validate it empirically with the case of the French mountainous production areas. The scientific approach corresponds to an inclusion in the field of institutional economics. It enables the building of analytical tools and the exploration of the role of collective action, at various scales, in the response capacity of mountainous production areas. In this framework, competition regimes correspond to the institutional arrangement of coordination instruments that covers political instruments and coordination structures (professions, joint-trade organisations and standards) as well as innovation networks. These institutions and thus competition regimes spread over various scales. The French dairy industry being diversified these institutional arrangements vary across regions, based on the enterprises and production models, on markets’ orientation, on the nature of professional and interprofessionnal organisations, and finally on the general relationships among supply chains’ operators. Regional production systems are thus characterised by various competition regimes. The field of common pool resources has been extended and the concept of property rights regimes has been adapted to the ability to control prices (intangible property). Thus the dairy farmers’ capacity to access to the two common pool resources at the origin of the differentiation of a competition regimes, namely governance structures (at the basis of an innovation capacity) and collective reputation (at the source of a market premium), can be understood. The regional differentiation of competition regimes suggests the following empirical hypothesis: the viability of mountain production areas could rest on the activation of various territorial and sectional resources that enables a differentiation of the competition regimes. Innovations’ strategies could be incremental in areas with an already partially differentiated regional production system (Jura and Savoie) whereas it may have to be radical in other areas. The analysis of economic players’ strategies at various scales, based on an articulation of three case studies and of an econometric analysis, contributes to the understanding of the diverse territorial mechanisms of the dairy restructuring.Forty-three mountainous areas, gathered in four subsets – mountainous areas with strong PDO cheese, areas with a potential for PDO cheese, areas targeting generic markets either with high farm density or with low farm density –, have been distinguished and mapped. These regional differences shows that the new legal framework laid down by the public actor within the context of the Milk Package maynot be sufficient to enable market stability especially in some mountainous areas, once the quotas have been abolished. This legal framework rests indeed on an incentive (i) to establish contracts among supply chains’ operators and (ii) to constitute farmers’ organisations. It comes out that it may be necessary to support at the same time the dairy producers’ abilities to build a supply of milk and territorialised services ; a supply that has to match the demand of the industry as well as the one of the public-players (local administrations, state, Europe)

Full textThis research was conducted in an automobile construction company of which the production population is aging. Some demographic and economic factors lead to a remain of the aging operators on the production lines, where the time constraints and the flexibility requirements are strong. All these requirements cause difficulty for the elderly. The company therefore turned to us so as to identify the nature of these difficulties and determine the strategies the older workers implement to remain in their workstations, in view of adapting the production tool to the characteristics of this population. A first result shows a decrease in job rotation with age. This result can be interpreted by means of finer analyses studying the operating modes workers of different ages use on the same workstation. When the workstation requirements so permit, the older workers implement strategies in order to achieve production goals while preserving their health, implying a fine sensory-motor skills development. But these strategies largely depend on the workstation characteristics : if they require both cognitive notions and too great physical efforts, their leeway will be limited and will not allow them to implement healthpreserving strategies; this could partly explain the decrease of job rotation after 40. Such knowledge led us to look into the different stages involved in learning a new job for operators at different ages. The older ones try to use these strategies from the very beginning of the learning stage. But the period of implementation of these strategies can have a high cost for their health; it is not possible to implement these ones on every workstation; and the training conditions do not favour older workers

Full textCollaborative robots are becoming more and more present in our everyday life. In particular, within the industrial environment, they emerge as one of the preferred solution to make assembly line in factories more flexible, cost-effective and to reduce the hardship of the operators’ work. However, to enable a smooth and efficient collaboration, robots should be able to understand their environment and in particular the actions of the humans around them. With this aim in mind, we decided to study technical gestures recognition. Specifically, we want the robot to be able to synchronize, adapt its speed and understand if something unexpected arises. We considered two use-cases, one dealing with copresence, the other with collaboration. They are both inspired by existing task on automotive assembly lines.First, for the co-presence use case, we evaluated the feasibility of technical gestures recognition using inertial sensors. We obtained a very good result (96% of correct recognition with one operator) which encouraged us to follow this idea.On the collaborative use-case, we decided to focus on non-intrusive sensors to minimize the disturbance for the operators and we chose to use a depth-camera. We filmed the operators with a top view to prevent most of the potential occultations. We introduce an algorithm that tracks the operator’s hands by calculating the geodesic distances between the points of the upper body and the top of the head.We also design and evaluate an approach based on discrete Hidden Markov Models (HMM) taking the hand positions as an input to recognize technical gestures. We propose a method to adapt our system to new operators and we embedded inertial sensors on tools to refine our results. We obtain the very good result of 90% of correct recognition in real time for 13 operators. Finally, we formalize and detail a complete methodology to realize technical gestures recognition on assembly lines

Full textThe objective of this thesis was to predict thrusting sequences in accretionary wedges or in fold-and-thrust belts based on the theory of limit analysis. The method is validated by proving that the critical taper is properly captured. It is shown that a perturbation added to the critical slope, leads to the localisation of the deformation. This study reveals that weakening of the ramp, accounted for by a decrease of the friction angle, is necessary for each thrust to have a finite life span. The prediction of thrusting sequences show the implication of the basal friction on the number of thrusts. An inverse study is then carried out to validate the theory by comparing sandbox experimental results with mechanical predictions. This quantitative comparison requires to estimate the intrinsic variability of the experimental results. Therefore, a statistical analysis has been conducted. Probabilities distributions for the rheological parameters of the experiment are provided by the inverse problem. These probabilities have been compared to independant measures. Probabilities of the internal and of the basal frictions are in good accordance with the expected values. The theory is finally applied to the Pampa Tril fold of the Agrio fold-and-thrust belt (Neuquen, Agentina). Various kinematical models have been proposed for this fold. It is shown that the thick-skinned model is favored in the case of a fault reactivation. If magmatic material can intrude along faults, a more superficial décollement is prefered

Full textThis research project is part of the program CarHAB designed for the mapping of natural and semi-natural habitats and funded by the French Ministry of Environment. It aims at proposing 1) landscape vegetation typology and 2) a methodology to map vegetation of French low mountain range at the landscape scale, taking into account the vegetation dynamic. The study area is the Clermont-Ferrand region, in Auvergne, from the Limagne plains to the “chaîne des Puys” (Massif central, France) which is a mountainous region. It is particularly varied regarding both abiotic and biotic drivers of plant types and thereafter includes a large variety of habitats. Six main types of ecosystems were studied, over a 51 544 ha large area : an alluvial valley, a sedimentary plain, xerothermic hills, plateau and fault on crystalline rocks and mountains of the monts Dômes. The first step of this landscape approach had consisted to propose an analytical phytosociological referential, based on 5614 relevés from bibliography and ours. A descriptive catalog of the plant associations occuring over the studied area was provided. Based on those diagnostic tools, 173 associations or plant assemblages was identified in the study area. The main body of this work consists of the elaboration of a spatiotemporal predictive model of the current and potential vegetation, using the dynamico-catenal approach. The benefit of this approach, defined and discussed in this work, is that it represents three levels of organization of the vegetation, i.e. plant communities (plant association, habitat), their dynamics (serie) and their spatial organization in the landscape (geoserie). It permits to take into account the ecological variables driving vegetation patterns (tessella, catena). Following this “dynamico-catenal” analysis, 81 typological units have been found and characterized: 60 series of vegetation (23 séries, 5 sous-séries, 5 curtaséries 23 permaséries and 4 théroséries) and 21 geoseries of vegetation (14 géoséries, 3 géocurtaséries and 4 géopermaséries). Each of them is fully described in this work, in particular regarding their dynamic affinity diagrams, geographical extension, conservation state, degree of anthropisation or naturality... This work achieved several methodological issues: 1) A specific module of the VegFrance data base was established, using the Turboveg software, to store relevés at the landscape scale realized (synrelevés, géosynrelevés). 2) A predictive model of the impact of the climate change on the vegetation series was sketched, according to the objectives of the COP 21 scheme. 3) The bio-indicator values of Ellenberg were used here at several levels: taxa, plant communities and vegetation series. These data were analyzed statistically and their variability within and between vegetation series was assessed as cues for ecological variability and more generally for the naturality/anthropization of each serie. Finally a modus operandi is proposed for analyzing and mapping vegetation in similar regions, according to the objectives of the CarHAB framework. Three maps of vegetation were realized: one represents the series resulting from the analysis of the current vegetation, the second represents the geoserie of the area study. The third is a map of the series of potential vegetation which may be expected under the hypothesis of a global climate change

Full textThis thesis presents the reconstruction of the tectono-thermal history of the Paleozoic Jebilet massif (Morocco), from its pre-orogenic evolution at the Upper Devonian-Lower Carboniferous to its structuration during the variscan-alleghanian orogeny at the Upper Carboniferous-Lower Permian. To address this issue, this work is organized around two approaches: (1) one metrological applied to the Raman Spectroscopy of Carbonaceous Matterial (RSCM) and (2) the other integrating a structural and geochronological study and a thermicity analysis. The metrological approach allowed to validate the applicability of the RSCM geothermometer (1) in a context of polyphase metamorphism, (2) for carbonate rocks and skarns of Jebilet and (3) to propose a new parameter Raman RSA allowing to better specify temperatures above 500°C and extend the applicability of the method to maximum temperatures of up to 700°C.From the integrated approach, three tectono-thermal episodes were highlighted. The first episode D₀, corresponds to an extensive tectonic allowing the opening of the Jebilet basin at the Upper Devonian-Lower Carboniferous. This opening is accompanied by a HT thermal anomaly as shown by the important bimodal and granodioritic magmatic activity dated between 358 ± 7 Ma and 336 ± 4 Ma and the TRSCM higher than 500°C recorded by the rocks. During Upper Carboniferous, the compressive phase structuring the Jebilet massif begins with the emplacement of superficial nappes (D₁), followed by the variscan major phase (D2). Structural analysis showed a gradual evolution of D₂ deformation regime from coaxial compression to dextral transpression consistent with WNW-ESE to NW-SE horizontal shortening. D₂ is associated with two thermal events, the first is syn-tectonic with TRSCM between 300 and 400°C, and the second is syn- to post-tectonic with TRSCM between 600 and 660°C.This tectono-thermal context would be the expression of geodynamic processes involving from the Upper Devonian a delamination of the Rheic lithosphere by "slab break-off" or "slab roll-back" which would induce (1) the rise of hot asthenospheric current, and (2) the clockwise rotation of Gondwana and its gradual amalgamation with Laurussia structuring the variscan-alleghanian belt during the Upper Carboniferous-Lower Permian

Full textEamounts are for the most part subducted with the downgoing oceanic plate. They are expected to critically impact the mechanical and seismogenic behavior of subduction zones, but their exact role is strongly debated (i.e. as to whether they represent barriers to propagation or asperities promoting nucleation). Rare natural examples of metamorphosed seamounts, that got sliced off the slab along the plate interface are therefore precious witnesses to document processes operating at depth. This PhD thesis reports the existence of a former seamount in the Zagros suture zone (the Siah Kuh unit). This 20x12 kilometer-large, minimum 1.5 km-high unit composed of pillow basalts capped by reef limestone was formed in an arc environment during the Late Cretaceous.HP-LT minerals (lawsonite, aragonite veins, blue amphibole) found across the whole structure, particularly in zones of localized compressive deformation, indicate that this seamount was shallowly subducted at 30 km. Syn-subduction deformation is assisted by dŽcollement rooting in serpentinite and/or oceanic sediments and is related to the internal slicing of the seamount. The presence of soft layers may prevent most of the seismic activity, since only one pseudotachylite, recording a Mw2-3 earthquake has been found. The Siah Kuh unit is also a perfect target to investigate oceanic processes such as slope destabilization and subsidence, and subduction processes such as mechanical coupling, fluid/tectonic overpressure and the nature of subduction fluids. We finally build a model for the tectonic evolution of the Siah Kuh unit and its relationship with other ophiolites

The integration is highlighted in the literature as essential characteristic to the supply chain management (SCM), once aligned to strategic decisions, it produces more effective results, increases sensitivity to customer needs, decreases the response time to market changes and other factors that lead to increased performance of the chain as a whole. However, although the importance of integration is widely recognized, there is still much disagreement regarding its definition and therefore, difficult to measure the level of integration among members of a supply chain, making it difficult to evaluate the current chain state as well as the possibility of improvement. Thus, this research aims at developing a scale to measure the level of integration among members of a supply chain, focusing on upstream relationships, using the Item Response Theory (IRT). For this purpose we sought to identify the characteristics of integration through situations that indicate their existence by the following steps: 1) development of a scale to measure the level of integration with among members upstream the chain, based on the characteristics of integration identified in the literature review: confidence, information sharing, partnership, cooperation, coordination and collaboration, 2) preparation of items with situations that indicate the existence of these aspects in the relationship among members, building a scale to measure the level of integration between company and supplier, 3) measuring the level of integration of the companies participating in the research. The definition of the level of integration indicated by each item allowed the confirmation of the existence of a cumulative relationship among features of integration, based on the confidence that enables the sharing of information, followed by partnership and cooperation, coordination and collaboration among members.

SUMMARY:
As in most African cities, Yaounde, the capital city of Cameroon, is faced with the phenomenon of urbanization. This leads to socio-economic problems especially in food supply and acquisition of basic necessities. The extremely low purchasing power, unemployment, underemployment, poverty - say misery, brought a significant proportion of the population to invent new solutions to ensure basic income through urban and peri-urban agriculture. The characterization of this agricultural system highlights the interaction between various stakeholders, types of spaces and crops, productivity and average revenue generated. Results show that this agricultural system has generated employment for about 2000 people, mainly youths and especially women, with 35 years average age. The activity is based mainly in lowland floody zones, low slope, landscaping roads with increase land pressure. Vegetables, gardening and flowers are dominant diversified crops noticed in the area. These crops vary from urban, peri-urban and rural areas, three landscape which were studied.
The analysis of the marketing chain show three main types of distribution chains through which products pass from producers to consumers. These include long distribution, short distribution and direct channel. In these channels, the regulation of the market is achieved at the level of all stakeholders. This means that the prices of the products are therefore fixed in advance, and also are functions of demand. Regarding profitability, the analysis on the farmer’s accounts of Celery, Bitter leaf and Black nightshade indicates that this agriculture is profitable with an average daily gain of almost 3 euro per producers. That's why some gardeners believes that instead of a salary of almost 75 euro per month, they prefer to stay in their farm.
However, no legal and regulatory framework related to this activity is available in the case of Yaounde. Also, there are many other constraints related to the organization of producers, practices, structuring and implementation of products in the markets. These results have important implications to the understanding of the interaction between farmers and policy makers. The multiple functions of this activity such as youth employment, income for substantial segments of the most vulnerable populations, urban waste management and the beautification of the landscape is as much attraction that contribute to its promotion.
A strategy to encourage the implication of urban producers in the development of the city of Yaounde has been implemented through CAUPA. The integration of these strategies in urban planners, could help for the challenges of improving people’s welfare. Subsequently, this thesis brings forth the need for a mediation between different stakeholders and contributes to good quality of peri-urban agriculture. The results can therefore enable decision-makers and policy to provide useful information on the importance of this form of agriculture which is not only rising, but also controversial.

Full textThis survey aims to investigate the inter-organizational relationships of a company that in a same industrial plant, concentrates its activities into two distinct markets: the automotive and white goods. Therefore, its purpose is to identify and detail how different requirements of different economic sectors, characterized by unequal positions in supply chain and by physical flows and quirky information, interfere in the organizational design of a company that operates directly in two chains. To meet this goal, there was the selection of up-and downstream links, that is, suppliers and customers of the automotive and white goods market. Soon, was set a case study involving four suppliers and six central enterprise customers. The empirical clipping adopted contemplated the construction of immediate central chain company by which flow all interorganizational relations selected. The comparative research of upstream and downstream relationships occurred through questionnaires that sought to identify and translate the central company interactions with selected organizations, as well as to clarify their form of simultaneous actions in the sectors of automotive, white goods and with support of the theories of supply chain, supply chain management and networks. In summary, the results of this research showed that the company central: (1) Gets cost advantages in its operations in the automotive and white goods segment, on the basis of complementarities; (2) presents an organizational design shaped by the way in which production is performed to company C (b) 1, for the different sectors, by his training and entry into the market, by productive restructuring processes occurring in the white line and automotive markets, for its strategic options and by its placement in the automotive supply chain and white line; (3) when you join at the first level of the automotive supply chain had access to a large number of challenges and opportunities that, if properly addressed, will configure itself in a growth, characterized by structural changes that will include a new dimensioning of your strategic business units in order to remodel your current organizational design, as well as their relationships with customers and suppliers.

Full textThe Edough massif is the Easternmost crystalline massif of the Maghrebide belt. This area presents strong similarities with the internal zones of the Peri-Mediterranean Alpine belt but its evolution stillremains poorly constrained. Edough can be approximated as a metamorphic dome of gneisses and migmatites containing garnet amphibolite and metaperidotites of Sidi Mohamed in its core. In the North, the dome is overlain by a nappe stack constituted by a “melange” unit composed of various lithologies and, upward, by the Kef Lakhal massive amphibolites of oceanic origin. This work is focused on three units containing mafic and ultramafic lithologies i.e. the Sidi Mohamed peridotites, the “melange” unit and the Kef Lakhal amphibolites. The aim of this Ph.D. work is to characterize all three units, to determine their relationships and establish the timing of the main events identified. We chose a combined geochronological-geochemical approach using in situ analyses (major and trace elements, U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotopes on accessory minerals) and bulk analyses on whole rock/mineral fraction (major and trace elements, Ar-Ar geochronology and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopes). We show that the Sidi Mohamed mafic rocks display an affinity with the Alboran mantle. The mantle rocks from Sidi Mohamed display affinities with a subcontinental mantle influenced by subduction processes and late metamorphism at crustal levels. The melange unit is interpreted as a Permo-Carboniferous passive margin. The amphibolite lenses in the mélange unit originate from a mantle modified by subduction processes. This unit contains relics of Ultra-High Pressure rocks as evidenced by the occurrence of diamonds in a megacrystal of garnet showing oceanic affinities. These ultra-high pressure rocks document a prograde stage at ~32 Ma and exhumation to lower crustal levels at ~21 Ma. The Kef Lakhal unit displays oceanic crust-like signatures and characteristics of fluid induced signatures. We interpret the Kef Lakhal amphibolites as a shallow subducted Tethys fragment, which was exhumed at 21 Ma. We propose that the Edough massif represents the Permo-carboniferous passive margin of Africa basement onto which a fragment of the Tethys Ocean was thrusted. The whole massif was finally exhumed as a metamorphic core complex at 18 Ma and experienced fast cooling until ~16 Ma. We relate this fast processes to the interplay between trench and slab movements

Full textOf the five northern french pre-Alpine ranges to which it belongs, the mountains of Bornes-Aravis has a distinctive feature that is intriguing: it has only a very small nature reserve situated on the fringes of Lake Annecy. In this it differs from larger neighboring parks, and more recently, geoparks, all guarantee of maintaining a high quality of life.Reluctant to adopt any measure of territorial protection, local officials say that empiricism guided by wisdom, and traditional know-how of native populations, outweigh the establishment of protected areas whose effects would be prejudicial to their priority of economic development. In this context, it is reasonable to harbour fears about the sustainability of landscape aesthetics, which is an essential factor attracting tourists, a key driver of the alpine economy. Native societies readily adapting to the demands of the modern economy, whilst limiting alterations to their cultural and natural heritage. As a result of that process, one can notice the existence of a dynamic and relatively prosperous agro-pastoral system, essential to maintaining the quality of life. The inhabitants of the country say they want to prevent it forbecoming a land of leisure for city dwellers. However in the absence of specifically protected areas guaranteeing environmental quality, one can only wonder about the chances that the « dual balancing improvement » (Bätzing, Rougier, 2006) will be maintained. Patterns of territorial coherence that have recently been developed aware of these stakes. That is why the analysis conducted throughout this study will pay particular attention to the evolution of spatial dynamics affecting the future of scenic beauty, which constitues the essential richness of these highlands. This matter should be valued notably by a scientific mediation not sporadic and fragmentary such as it is it at present, but conceived according to a coherence in link with the identity of the territory

Full textWhat is a landscape heritage? It is a new look by actors on a landscape wichi, according to Levy & Lussault (2003) “is supposed to deserve a transfer from past to find a value in present”. It is “a collection of attributes, representations, practices fixed on a non-contemporary object […] whose present importance is declared collectively, intrinsic (how this objet is representative of history of society’s objects) and extrinsic (how this object contains the values of a collective memory), which requires its conservation and its transmission. In order to define the heritage properties of landscape, people organize themselves into groups and try to communicate with each other’s. Each constructs a representation of the landscape around specific attributes that are of interest to the group. All these representations are different and yet they concern a single landscape. When it comes to carrying out an action that will have an effect on this common space, the groups interact with each other within a “collective network”. The action may be the subject of negotiations, tensions, conflicts, agreement or abandonment depending on the position of each person. However, whether the action was carried out or abandoned, the actors have exchanged their views on the landscape throughout the collective network. Therefore, as actions are progressively carried out on patrimonial landscape, groups of people construct a common view of this landscape: it is the “collective representation of the landscape”.Unlike a material object, the landscape is difficult to quantify. The acquisition for the latter of a heritage value therefore requires a complex process called “patrimonialization process”. For the groups of people present in the landscape, this process is not insignificant. It disrupts the collective representation of the landscape that has been built in the collective network. In the resulting social disorder, the groups will struggle to assert their representation of the landscape in a new collective representation. In this context, our thesis poses the following problem: Considering a territory undergoing a transformation of the look towards a heritage context, to what extent do agricultural and non-agricultural stakeholders build a new collective representation focused on keeping livestock, use of space and landscape management? To address this problem, we have mobilized the networks of agricultural and non-agricultural actors existing at two sites in the Massif Central that are registered or in search of inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage (“Les Causses et les Cévennes” and “La Chaîne des Puys - faille de Limagne”). After a brief description of the two sites, we have explained our positioning as regards the collective rather than the individual aspect in the construction of a representation of the landscape and around the organization and management of the landscape. We have then constructed a methodology that is inspired by this theoretical contribution. Thanks to it, we managed to conduct a hundred interviews which enabled us to identify and analyze on the sites the two networks in which the collective actors are organizing to integrate this new heritage stake in their representation of the landscape. This network organization materializes around a series of actions aimed to the management of the heritage, as well as support for livestock rising and the enhancement of agricultural production. Thus, we note that the process of patrimonialization contributes indirectly, by influencing the collective representation of agricultural space, to the evolution of agricultural practices which are themselves responsible for the construction of space

Full textKinematic models of folding allow deducing the deep architecture of folds from their surface geometries. Classical models are easy to use because of their kink-band geometry but they are only able to explain some particular fold shapes. The trishear model overcomes this drawback, but its application remains limited because it necessitates the knowledge of several unconstrained parameters such as the P/S ratio and the trishear angle. In this work, we developed a kinematic model based on the variation of the inter-limb angle during the folding. The model allows accounting for all surface geometries of fault-propagation folds. Since this model is based on the kink-band geometry, its application only requires the knowledge of the fold surface parameters, i.e. the dip of both limbs and the fold amplitude and wavelength. The model is also able to quantify the P/S ratio during the fold growth, together with its latest evolutional stage as a breakthrough fold. We applied the model in the Tunisian Atlas fold-and-thrust belt to estimate the depth of the decollement level associated to fault-propagation anticlines. Results are in good agreement with subsurface data. In contrast, both the other classical and trishear models are unable to explain the relationship between the surface geometry of anticlines and their deep architecture

Full textGeometric models have been proposed to account satisfactorily for ramp-related folds (e.g. fault-bend fold), identifying in particular detachment depth and total shortening. These methods of geometric reconstruction are applied on partially eroded folds. During erosion, the fault cut-off may be removed and as a result, the displacement is difficult to quantify. In this thesis, we develop 11 thermo-geometric models combining geometric description of folds and burial data to propose kinematic evolution of folds with eroded cut-offs. We assume that the emplacement of a tectonic unit will result in a thermal anomaly in the footwall, and that this thermal anomaly might indicate a thickness of the overriding unit. The models provide an estimation of the detachment depth and the total shortening on an eroded ramp, independent of the erosion rate. In the case of active thrusts, the models provide an estimation of the slip rate and the age of the initiation of the thrust as a function of the erosion rate. These data are used to unravel the kinematic development of eroded cross-sections. We apply the models on eroded folds from Taiwan underlined by active thrusts in the Choshui and Miaoli sections. We propose regional balanced cross-sections using forward modeling technique. In the Choshui section, we propose a detachment profile with a depth between ~ 5 km and ~ 14 km, marked by two steps of ~ 5 km. Assuming erosion rate at 4 mm/a, the age of initiation of the active thrusts is ranging from 3.3 Ma inward (Tili thrust) to 0.9 Ma outward (Chelungpu thrust). The total shortening from the whole section is ~100 km and the calculated slip rate is about 1 cm/a. To test our models in a non-active fold-and-thrust belt, we study eroded folds associated to the Pine Mountain thrust and Jones Valley thrust from the Appalachian belt. The application of the thermo-geometric models provides a value of the total shortening and explains satisfactorily the thermal anomaly in the footwall of the Jones Valley thrust. In order to improve the description of the thermal anomaly, we have studied the evolution of magnetic minerals of argillaceous rocks in four sections from the Taiwan thrust belt. We found that the iron sulfide greigite (Fe3S4) is dominating the magnetic assemblage in the less buried rocks (<70°C). The magnetite (Fe3O4) develops at burial temperature of ~50°C and is dominating the magnetic assemblage up to ~350°C. By ~300°C, the monoclinic pyrrhotite (Fe7S8) develops at the expense of magnetite, and at ~350°C, the magnetite is no longer detected. These results can be used complementary to other geothermometers to identify thermal anomalies in the range 50-70°C and 300-350°C where characteristic magnetic minerals are identified
