Full textRecent years have seen a considerable increase in the literature concerning the separate areas of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Supply Chain Management (SCM). However, little scholarly attention has been paid on the link between the two from a small and-medium sized enterprise (SME) perspective Therefore, this research aims to provide a better understanding of the engagement of SMEs in CSR practices in their supply chains. This thesis, through three articles, investigates the following research question : How does the SME adopt CSR practices through suppliers and customers pressures and extend its practices in the supply chain ?In the first chapter, using a structural equation modeling approach and data collected from 273 SMEs, our findings indicate that institutional pressures exerted by supply chain partners influence differently the level of CSR practices in SMEs. Notably, the study demonstrates that coercive pressures have no significant influence on CSR practices, whereas mimetic and normative pressures influence positively and significantly the level of CSR practices. Furthermore, the positive influence of normative pressures on CSR practices is stronger for SMEs situated downstream in their supply chain, whereas SMEs in further upstream positions are those which are sensitive to mimetic pressures for their environmental, human resources and marketplace practices. In the second chapter, based on a multiple-case study examining six triadic relationships, our study reveals that SMEs use “co-evolving” or “reflexive control” capabilities to extend CSR to the SME first-tier supplier. The findings reveal that, in contrast, SMEs use “active delegation”, “supply chain re-conceptualization” capabilities or a “don’t bother” approach to extend CSR to the SME second-tier supplier. Finally, the third chapter indicates using a systematic literature review that SMEs can undertake four roles in implementing CSR in the supply chain. We also identify the SMEs characteristics and the contingency factors that are related to the different roles of SMEs.This thesis contributes to fill the gap in literature by demonstrating the variety of pressures SMEs face in their supply chain, the mechanisms they use to extend CSR beyond the first-tier supplier, and the crucial role they play in the development of a sustainable supply chain

Full textThis thesis is interested in capacity determinants of an upstream supply chain, in which the last entity is an assembly line allowing a mass production of customized products. Capacity definition of an elementary production unit is almost easy in the case of an homogeneous production. Our research work progressively highlights the factors that determine the capacity of a more and more complex production unit, assuming that there are no work shortage and no stock-out. The capacity of a group formed by two successive entities of a supply chain is the lowest capacity of these units, under the condition that the supplier works for the industrial customer and the control rules guarantee the management independence for each entity. These rules are explored, to put in evidence good utilization interest of sure and unmoved information from the industrial customer, in addition to structural information for following periods. In addition, our works analyze supplying lot-sizing impact, which leads to have a safety stock even in deterministic universe. Different comparative studies were done to show superiority of the proposed rules, in comparison to those used by the automotive constructor, who is at the origin of this research. We finally handle more complex situations, characterized by alternate components supplying sharing between several suppliers and the case of one supplier providing several industrial customers who don’t necessarily belong to the same supply chain

Full textThis thesis focus on the coordination of planning decisions in a two-level supply chain composed of one supplier and one retailer. Each actor wants to minimize his own cost. The planning decisions independently took by the actors can lead to a poor performance in terms of costs, hence the necessity of coordination. We study cost sharing mechanisms between the actors by designing contracts. In this work, we consider the case where the retailer (resp. supplier) can impose his optimal production plan to the supplier (resp. retailer). Different cost sharing hypothesis, as well as the asymmetric information problem are taking into account in this thesis. We also perform an experimental analysis in order to evaluate the decrease of the supply chain cost obtained when the actors cooperate. This context leads us to study new lot-sizing problems for which we propose a complexity analysis and dynamic programming algorithms in order to solve them. We also propose a theoritical study of two-level lot-sizing problems with inventory bounds

Full textThis thesis concerns the plant and transshipment point location problems in the supply chain with three layers: plants with limited production capacities, capacitated transshipment points (TPs), and customers with known demands. Firstly, we introduce a multi-capacity transshipment point location problem with multicommodity flow (LPFPP). This problem consists in locating TPs, determining the capacity for each open TP and organizing the shipments of products. A clustering-based scatter search is proposed to solve the LPFPP. Secondly, we consider a two-stage capacitated trans-shipment point location problem with handling costs (LPFCM). The latter are modeled in a realistic way by associating with each transshipment point a limited set of handling modules. We propose a hybrid method compromising a lagrangian relaxation, a weighted Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition and a path-relinking to solve the LPFCM. Lastly, we introduce a capacitated plant location problem with multicommodity flow (CLUMF) which determines where to locate plants and how to supply the clients. We propose a lagrangian-based method combined with a tabu search to solve the CLUMF. All of the proposed algorithms in this thesis are tested on new instances based on bench-marks from the literaturesa few seconds. 3) find optimal solutions for 50 bench-mark instances of TSCFLP for the first time. 4) reduce the optimality gap by 1. 2% on average for the CLRP

Full textThe importance of supply chain management has gre ally lncreased lately in the se arch for company performance. The analysis of su chextended systems, of the ir various types of flows and of the in coordination has been studied by several modelling approaches in the field of lndustrial Engineering. None of them seems suitable to supply chain context, taking account of: several views, dynamic and stochastic characteristics, combined global and detailed models. Our contribution consists in proposing a methodology for supply chain performance diagnostic supported by generic decision support tools and easily usable by actors. Lt is a four-step methodology. The first step aims at precisely defining the sequence and the positioning of the methodology within the company. The goal of the second step is modelling supply chain processes. Thirdly, the functioning analysis step deals with a complete analysis of every process in order to identify malfunctionings which penalise supply chain performance. Lastly, the optimisation step leads to the implementation of improvement actions. The methodology supported by ARIS and ARENA, was experimented on an industrial case with Company Valrhona

Full textThe forest is a beneficial and renewable source of raw materials that ensures an economic dynamic. Thereby, the forest industry is characterized by a complex logistics network that is subject to a number of unique factors, such as: a growing need for customization of products, an unrecognized and uncertain demand for a few markets, and fierce global competition. This industry also encompasses a set of interconnected nodes for materials, information, and financial transactions. In this context, this thesis deals with the planning and control of the logistic activities of a forest value chain. It is a network that puts together the needful activities to move the raw materials and process them into finished products for customers. Our contribution through this project is to establish planning models that enable decision-makers to better coordinate their activities and improve their ways of exchanging information between each other in order to meet customer needs, build sustainable competitive advantage, and reduce costs In order to help the forest industry to achieve such objectives, we propose a methodology including three contributions. The first one suggests a centralized mathematical model then maximizes the total profit of a forest value chain by optimizing the quantities to be harvested and stored as well as the ones to be delivered. The second contribution is based on coordinated models that allow for more effective planning and control of forestry supply activities. The third contribution offers a conceptual implementation strategy and at the same time a technological platform which should be helpful to support the implementation of the coordination models developed.
