Abstract:
This project is a composition of the intersectionality between process, structure, and materiality, and an obsession, fixation, and fetishization of the simplistic yet repetitive ‘chain’ form. The thematic infatuation with the chain form became evident throughout my work in Spring 2014, while working with bronze, wood, and brass at the Slade School of Fine art in London, England. This fall I expanded on this concept to create my own representations of the chain form, abstracting and deterring it from any sociocultural origins, contexts, or landscapes.

Additive manufacturing (AM) has shown itself to be beneficial in many application areas, including product design and manufacture, medical models and prosthetics, architectural modelling and artistic endeavours. For some of these applications, coupling AM with reverse engineering (RE) enables the utilisation of data from existing 3D shapes. This thesis describes the application of AM and RE within sculpture manufacture, in order to optimise the process chains for sculpture reproduction and relic conservation and restoration. This area poses particular problems since the original artefacts can

The early medieval abbey church of Conques, located in a treacherous mountain region of southern France, received few visitors until the relics of the virgin martyr Ste. Foy were brought there. Among her abilities, Ste. Foy was credited with the power to provide protection from capture and to free prisoners. The themes of bondage and liberation are found throughout the church in the sculpture, grillwork and especially in the Liber miraculorum. This paper argues that the repetitive imagery of chains and release from bondage had a twofold function which increased the wealth and power of the monk

Supply chain exchange relationships are complex and sometimes chaotic sociological and organisational phenomena. This complexity is compounded by the boundary spanning necessity of forming supply chain partnerships that are further exacerbated by goal divergence and asymmetric information. In particular, exchange relationships are theorised to be sensitive in some degree to attempts at eco

Abstract:
The Flory ideality hypothesis states that flexible polymer chains in a melt assume the shape of three-dimensional random walks leading to so called Gaussian coils. The basis of this hypothesis is that any local conformational information decays exponentially along the chain backbone and thus has no influence on the long range conformation. Additionally it is argued that the excluded volume shielding of neigbor chains cancels out any swelling effects. Neutron scattering (NS) experiments dating back 30 years confirm the postulated Gaussian coil shape of polymers. This leads to a pillar of polyme

Background: Entrepreneurship is dependent on innovation and entrepreneurial activities increase competition. The world is facing many problems concerning sustainability, especially in the food industry. There are challenges such as climate change and ethical issues, and to stay competitive in an industry faced with multiple challenges, a sustainability-driven innovation practice could be one way to do so. The food industry is of great importance to society and although there are research done in the area of sustainable innovation in the food industry there is still a need for clarification on

Work chair is considered as an important element for the users to improve comfort in work environment. An ergonomic chair design and engineering is therefore considered very important for its usability and comfort view of point for the users. The aim of the thesis is to improve the mobility and ergonomics of the existing chair in all aspects. Ergonomically designed chairs are important for long time seated workers to increase their productivity and also to reduce low back injuries which arise due to the poor design chairs in ergonomic aspects. In addition, ergonomically designed chairs help to

The question of the management of the transfer process and transfer pricing is an important one for managers and academics alike (Colbert and Spicer, 1995). Yet, in general, our current knowledge on several aspects of transfer pricing process is limited. One question which arises in relation to transfer pricing in service organizations is whether there is an association between the transfer price and the internal customer's perception of value emanating from the transaction. An inappropriate transfer pricing system can give rise to a number of adverse effects which can include am

Abstract:
Fluorocarbons are known to be stiffer than their hydrocarbon analogues, a property that underlines the extensive industrial application of fluorocarbon materials. Although there has been previous studies on the rotational barrier of molecules having fluorocarbon centers, a detailed systematic study is necessary to quantify flurocarbon stiffness. The molecules, Pyrene-(CF2)n-Pyrene, Pyrene-(CF2)n-F, Pyrene-(CH2)n-Pyrene and Pyrene-(CH2)n-H were therefore synthesized to enable the determination of the barrier to rotation of the carbon backbone in fluorocarbons. The purpose of this three-essay dissertation is to synthesize and extend the effects of decentralization in decision-making and supply chain complexity in the context of supply chain resilience (SCRES).First essay contributes to theory and practice by expanding resilience thinking into including supply chain orientation and organizational structure and their implications and also responds to prior research arguing for the importance of identifying organizational factors that improve supply chain resilience. Second essay contributes to the supply chain organizational structure and SCRES literat
