Abstract:

Este artículo presenta resultados de la investigación «Género y migración: Recomposición Familiar», que fue llevada a cabo en los municipios de Comalapa y Concepción Quezaltepeque del Departamento de Chalatenango, en El Salvador; cuyo trabajo de campo se realizó entre 2009 y 2010. De esa investigación se ha retomado el análisis del fenómeno migratorio que experimenta El Salvador desde la perspectiva de la hibridación cultural, y se centra en la vida cotidiana de los municipios antes mencionados con la intención de comparar las dinámicas culturales que se establecen en ambos, tomando en cuenta que en el primero las personas migran hacia EUA y en el segundo mayoritariamente a Italia. MIGRATION AND SOCIOCULTURAL CHANGE IN TWO RURAL COMMUNITIES FROM CHALATENANGO, EL SALVADORABSTRACTThis article presents results from the piece of research titled «Gender and Migration: Family Recomposition.» This study was conducted in the municipalities of Comalapa and Concepción Quezaltepeque in Chalatenango, El Salvador. Fieldwork was carried out between 2009 and 2010. The analysis of the migration phenomenon experienced in El Salvador has been taken from this piece of research. This analysis was made from a cultural hybridization perspective and focuses on the everyday life in the aforementioned municipalities. The intention is to compare the cultural dynamics established between the two, taking into consideration that in the former, people migrate to the USA, whereas in the latter they mostly migrate to Italy.

Abstract:

Abstract On June 20, 1986, amid the 12-year civil war in El Salvador (1980–1992), a group of displaced Salvadorans from the northern department of Chalatenango declared San José las Flores their home. As the war between the Salvadoran army and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) intensified in rural areas, many people left to find refuge in other parts of the country. Since the FMLN had an active presence in Chalatenango, the Salvadoran military bombed this region frequently, which transformed las Flores into a ghost town by 1984. Those Salvadorans who decided to hide instead of leaving the country or even the region faced treacherous conditions as they trekked through the mountainous terrain of Chalatenango fleeing from military operations. By 1986, many of these Salvadorans emerged from their precarious living to demand their right to live in San José las Flores. More than three decades after the repopulation of the town, and more than two decades since the signing of the peace accords, residents of las Flores continue to celebrate their history, without fail, every year, bearing witness to a reenactment of the events that led to their town’s repopulation. This article examines these anniversaries, especially its 30th anniversary in 2016, to understand how the town remembers, interprets, and transforms their local history. What prompts residents of las Flores to relive these events? How is social memory and trauma transmitted to the diverse audience in attendance? What does reenactment have to do with collective memory? This article argues that the performance of the repopulation of las Flores, enacted by former guerrilla soldiers, survivors of the war, and their children and grandchildren, demonstrates how the history, memories, and values of this town are transmitted from generation to generation. In Diana Taylor’s words, they remember their collective suffering, challenges, and triumphs through both archival and embodied memory.

Abstract:

En ocasión del veinte aniversario de la firma de los Acuerdos de Paz que pusieron fin a la guerra civil salvadoreña, se investigó lo que pensaban sobrevivientes de la guerra civil sobre la recuperación de la memoria histórica. Existe un deseo claro y mayoritario entre pobladores del área metropolitana de El Salvador y de comunidades del norte del departamento de Chalatenango, en mantener viva la memoria histórica. Las personas que manifestaron una actitud más favorable a recuperar la memoria histórica fueron: los que sufrieron un trauma psicosocial alto, los que perdieron familiares en la guerra, los pobladores del campo y las personas jóvenes. Un porcentaje alto de personas piensan con frecuencia sobre lo que pasó en la guerra. Se aborda el tema de la memoria y el olvido y las implicaciones de la petición de perdón de parte del Estado por su participación en graves violaciones de los derechos humanos. Abstract:

Este artículo usa el “concepto de historia” de Walter Benjamin para desenterrar la importancia histórica de un momento de resistencia campesina en Chalatenango, El Salvador, al principios de la década de 1980. Las comunidades del noreste de ese departamento no solamente sufrieron una explotación y represión salvaje, sino que también organizaron su propio poder popular local. No fueron simplemente víctimas, sino protagonistas de su historia, aunque fue una experiencia breve de dos años, más o menos, resultó muy importante en términos históricos. Sin embargo, como dice Benjamin, las resistencias que no terminan en un éxito reconocido históricamente, se pierden para la historia, son de hecho "destellos" de la historia. Este artículo analiza el papel del historiador y el proceso de construcción de la historia desde la memoria con los mismos campesinos. Abstract:

Este artículo presenta una reflexión científica sobre el sentido de la memoria histórica en diversas localidades del oriente de Chalatenango (en la zona central-norte de El Salvador) y en el norte de Morazán, en donde se desarrolló el conflicto político-militar a partir de la década de 1970. Los relatos de los actuales habitantes de estas localidades hablan sobre la vida de sus poblaciones antes del conflicto, lo que sucedió durante el conflicto armado y la reconstrucción de sus poblados después de los Acuerdos de Paz. Este discurso histórico es de gran trascendencia para entender la construcción de la cultura en la sociedad contemporánea y su proyección hacia el futuro, constituyéndose en fundamento ideológico para la creación de un nuevo tipo de sociedad y de cultura a principios del siglo XXI.
