This article presents the results of a comparative legal analysis of the constitutions of the countries of South Africa regarding the consolidation of the constitutional spheres of interaction of the chambers of parliaments in them. The study showed that the typical (universal) areas of interaction between the chambers of parliament include: the legislative sphere; the security sphere and the control sphere. The international sphere, which involves the interaction of the chamber of parliament on the ratification of international treaties (Eswatini, South Africa), is atypical for the states of

Iain Chambers' essay challenges explanations of the Arab Spring emerging from the Occidental media, arguing that the terms of engagement set by the Arab revolts can no longer be unilaterally defined by the West. Chambers stresses the centrality of the Mediterranean as an increasingly evident site of confluence between East and West and between North and South. He goes on to argue that the events of the Arab Spring reopen the Western cultural and political lexicon, and put into question the historical alliance between Christianity and the universalising discourses of modernity. Experiments were performed to compare 14C uptake, dissolved O2 and CO2 change, and microelectrode techniques for measuring benthic primary productivity and community metabolism at a site on the South Saskatchewan River, Saskatchewan. The highest estimates of primary productivity were obtained with O2 microelectrodes (two to four times higher than simultaneous estimates from bulk-water dissolved O2 measurements), presumably because measurements are biased toward active communities under optimal conditions for photosynthesis. In daytime experiments lasting ~1.3 and 2.4 h, estimates from 14C upta

The influenza epidemic of 1918 in the Cape Peninsula caused Richard Stuttaford, a city councillor of Cape Town and a leading figure in the Associated Chambers of Commerce of South Africa, to feel that better housing might have saved many lives. In his opinion the answer to the problem lay in the establishment of a 'garden city', and to that end he donated £10 000 in 1919 to institute a 'garden city; at Uitvlugt (Pinelands). The development of Pinelands is not only unique in the field of urban planning in South Africa; its historical significance also lies in its being an experiment in local go

Radon concentrations in the tourist part of the Cango cave were measured using 25 strategically placed electret ion chambers. Airflow rates were also measured and found to be less than 1 m/s throughout the cave. An IDW interpolated radon concentration overlay was constructed using QGIS and overlayed on maps of the cave. The maximum radon concentration of 2625 Bq/m3 was measured in the Grand Hall, located in the central part of the cave following a narrow passage. The initial part of the cave near the entrance exhibited normal cave breathing characteristics, with radon concentrations of less th

The taxonomic structure offossil communities was established by 10,842 bones from lithological layers 16-11. Increasing demands for gas storage capacity encouraged Polish Gas and Oil Company (PGNiG) to make use of salt deposits located in the north-eastern part of Poland, in the area bordering on the Gulf of Gdańsk (South Baltic Sea), and create underground gas stores. A complex of 10 chambers (250x106 m3) was designed to be built at a depth of 800-1600 m. The construction site is located about 4 km away from the sea coast. The drilling of boreholes and diluting of salt rock was proposed as a method of creating the chambers. Owing to ecological reasons, maximum discharge of brine is limited to 300 m3

Differential resistance to dissolution among planktonic foraminifera has been studied in several regions, but no previous work has been reported for the western South Atlantic. The goal of this research was to develop a dissolution susceptibility ranking for planktonic foraminifera from the western South Atlantic Ocean, to compare the solubility between benthic and planktonic foraminifera, and to evaluate changes in the oxygen isotopic signal (δ18O) associated with dissolution. Abstract The production of sticky threads from spinnerets is known from various myriapod groups including some representatives of the millipedes (Diplopoda). In Diplopoda the thread-producing glands are mostly seta-like and positioned terminally on the telson, and the secretion product is typically used to build molting chambers or egg sacs. So far, no such secretions or organs have been documented for the subgroup Pentazonia. Here we describe thread-producing glands from the species-poor Glomeridesmida. No formal discipline, be it music, communication, sociology or economics, embraced the group with open arms. Its members did not even know of the existence of IASPM until a few years later. Being ‘local’ without global connection, at the margins of academia in the periphery of Anglo-American cultural/intellectual centres, was an uneasy position to say the least.

The aim of the research is to identify the structural and compositional features characteristic of parallel fragments in these works. The research is novel in that it is the first to determine the ratio of fragments parallel in the vertical and horizontal directions in the works. The research findings showed that both poems contain parallel fragments with vertical and horizontal symmetry. At the same time, vertic

Abstract. Three new species and one new genus of adherent foraminiferans have been found within bivalve borings in cobbles from the Faringdon Sponge-gravel (Upper Aptian) of south-central England. The new genus and species, Lapillincola faringdonensis is a uniserial textulariine with an initial planispiral coil and a multiple aperture. Lapillincola gen. nov. is a remarkable homeomorph of Arenonina Barnard, which was originally described as an agglutinated form. Arenonina is shown here to actually be calcareous and perforate, and thus a junior synonym of Rectocibicides Cushman & Ponton.

Abstract The origin of cumulate grains in layered intrusions is actively debated. Earliest views assumed that all grains grew in the now-exposed magma chamber. An alternative view is that some grains were injected from deeper magma chambers (never to be exposed). Such grains have been called antecrysts. In this model upward reversals in the anorthite content of plagioclase grains in anorthosite-bearing sequences have been considered to indicate such processes, and are considered to represent the bases of cycles.
