Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
ABSTRACTTo improve antibiotic prescribing, we sought to establish the probability of a resistant organism in urine culture given a previous resistant culture in a setting endemic for multidrug-resistant (MDR) organisms. We performed a retrospective analysis of inpatients with paired positive urine cultures. We focused on ciprofloxacin-resistant (cipror) Gram-negative bacteria, extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producingEnterobacteriaceae, carbapenem-resistantEnterobacteriaceae(CRE), and carbapenem-resistant nonfermenters (CRNF). Comparisons were made between the frequency of each resistance phenotype following a previous culture with the same phenotype and the overall frequency of that phenotype, and odds ratios (ORs) were calculated. We performed a regression to assess the effects of other variables on the likelihood of a repeat resistant culture. A total of 4,409 patients (52.5% women; median age, 70 years) with 19,546 paired positive urine cultures were analyzed. The frequencies of ciprorbacteria, ESBL-producingEnterobacteriaceae, CRE, and CRNF among all cultures were 47.7%, 30.6%, 1.7%, and 2.6%, respectively. ORs for repeated resistance phenotypes were 1.87, 3.19, 48.25, and 19.02 for ciprorbacteria, ESBL-producingEnterobacteriaceae, CRE, and CRNF, respectively (P< 0.001 for all). At 1 month, the frequencies of repeated resistance phenotypes were 77.4%, 66.4%, 57.1%, and 33.3% for ciprorbacteria, ESBL-producingEnterobacteriaceae, CRE, and CRNF, respectively. Increasing time between cultures and the presence of an intervening nonresistant culture significantly reduced the chances of a repeat resistant culture. Associations were statistically significant over the duration of follow-up (60 months) for CRE and for up to 6 months for all other pathogens. Knowledge of microbiology results in the six preceding months may assist with antibiotic stewardship and improve the appropriateness of empirical treatment for urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Abstract:

Abstract:
The subject of this anthropology thesis is the iconography of the prehispanic peruvian Chancay culture, focuses on graphics and iconology. Our research is based around a simultaneous study of two archeological objects: ceramics and textiles, found exclusively in burial places. The methodic examination of the corpus of the study (471 pieces), drawn up from excavations reports and from seven museums collections visited in Lima, have helped define the graphical repertory of the Chancay culture and highlighted 14 similar patterns throughout Andean time and space. The anlysis of these graphics, throughout colonial chronicles, ecclesistical writtings, ethnohistoric documents and works on anthropological fields, has shown that all of these patterns express an identical idea: fertility and fecundity, closely associated with death-ritual and ancestors cults. The examination of several tombs, reconstructed with the help of the peruvian archeologist Hans Hork-Heimer's archives, identifies a well ordered display of the different artefacts around the funeral bundle defining a delimited space. The contemporary practice of the "mesa" or votive offerings, used on the occasion of fertility rituals and funeral rites, presents some information that we find in the study funeral context. This ritual table is laid for ancestors' spirit who are the guarntors of the land's fertility, animals and humans fecundity in the Andean cosmology. We therefore propose that the Chancay tomb should be seen and understood as a "mesa"

Abstract:

Tesis

Abstract:
Tesis

Abstract:
There is a lot of questions about the construction of elites, in particular about the challenges of cultural and educational democratization. An elite emerging from people can appear only when the society is opened enough, so that the human beings are not dependent from their social conditions of origin. According to the popular education movements such as People and Culture, the creation of an elite is the consequence of an active educational method based on a pooling of culture and the use of free time. This creation is necessary to avoid alienation and masses manipulation. At the end of the eighties, the model regarding the construction of a popular elite changed. Giving a social ascension to the popular layers has become a political need and a social demand. The thematic of equal opportunities is privileged. Positive discrimination programs are established. Supporting the young people coming from sensitive areas through academic success is a priority for the social promotion of human beings. We can ask ourselves about the composition of these elites, which appeared in the process of social transformation and on what they represent. Can we define popular education and equal opportunities as theoretical models for the inscription in the representations and social body of elites coming from all the social layers?

Abstract:

Abstract:
Ireland experienced an unprecedented arrival of immigrants during the years of economic prosperity. The new diversity was met with divided public opinion towards non-Irish and an increasingly selective immigration policy. The media, as a main contributor to public discourse, play an important role in the construction of migrant images and therefore have a profound impact on such developments. Employing a combination of quantitative and qualitative content analysis, this study examines whether different immigrant groups have the same chance of favourable or unfavourable portrayal in daily newspapers. Based on the most frequent roles and topics associated with Poles, Nigerians and Chinese, a selection of newspaper articles is subjected to in-depth analysis. The overarching result that there is not one image of the Irish media illustrates how difficult, if not impossible, it is to arrive at findings that can be generalised. Individual newspapers are found to pursuit varying and sometimes covert strategies in the representation of immigrants. It is further shown that immigrants who are perceived as culturally closer to Irishness have a higher chance of favourable portrayal than those who are perceived as culturally more distant. Some commonly accepted perceptions of immigrants are unmasked as myths.

Abstract:
Musicology has long since been established as central part of the so-called Digital Humanities. For many areas of music culture as a whole, digitization is considered the central paradigm of our time. But what exactly does this mean, and is it not unusual for technical and cultural developments to be thrown through and into each other? In literary studies as well as in cultural and contemporary history, a critical discussion has already begun on the multiple narratives and projections about „(post)digitality“, which are particularly common in science itself. Against this background, the article pleads for taking digitality seriously as an object of investigation in historical musicology (and possibly also in the history of musicology) and for initiating a corresponding field of research. For example, what promises and debates about loss associated with digitality can be observed within music culture at different times and in different contexts, but also what sources could provide information about this. The introduction of the CD in the 1980s and the emergence of the EDM sub-genre Glitch in the mid-1990s serve as starting examples for such a critical-historical view of and on digitality.

Abstract:
Research projects and infrastructure facilities at universities today face special challenges: on the one hand, an orientation towards supra-regional standard services is required. On the other hand, many projects require research-related services that allow for constructive, adapted and rapid assistance. The initiatives for a National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) or National High Performance Computing (NHR) promise solutions to this balancing act, but strong support structures and low-threshold services at the respective universities remain necessary. A change in peoples’ minds is also central to this process: new professional fields with a corresponding culture of recognition and incentive structures, the willingness to react flexibly and agilely to requirements, and the establishment of an enabling culture in which researchers and infrastructure facilities meet at eye level are prerequisites for actively shaping the change towards optimal research support.

Abstract:
Abstract This is a study that represents ongoing academic research into the folds of perception, organizational culture and high reliability. In the shadow of persistent industrial failures it is probable that problems with operational safety reside in abnormalities of culture. Such cultural apparitions regularly fuel failure in high risk technologies making innovation rather unreliable. As innovation grows it is worth the effort to investigate further how resilience in the face of eternal socio-technical biases can be improved. Problem solving approaches offer regressive ideas that increase the chances of deviation and the appearace of disasters. The assumption is that resilience can be improved in critical operations using High Reliability Theory (HRT). Moreover HRT is more robust when the new constructive method of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is applied. This early study shows that existing safety culture in a highly reliable group is positively transformed by AI and makes a more productive organization feasible. Research was conducted from the characteristic insider perspective. A small section of a highly reliable organization was sampled. Using ethnographic methodology feedback from electronic surveying collected personal responses for discussion. While individual interviews proved difficult and the sample group was small there was enough evidence to acknowledge the influence of positive revolution. This study had two major findings a) Using AI methodology stimulates positive, resilient feelings in members and b) members readily used these positive experience to envision a more productive organization. This study can potentially reduce over emphasis on problem solving methods to explain and change the human factors associated with failure. Cultural factors are better studied and modified by positive influence. The study here makes way for more persuasive academic discussion on resilience by constructivist perspectives. High reliability organizations are more sustainably designed on positive principles.

Abstract:
In this article, the author considers various aspects of teaching Chinese in Russia, and also specifies some factors that affect the successful mastery of the Chinese language, in particular, learning in a natural language environment as a part of student exchange programs, during which students study language material in class with native speaker and have the opportunity of extensive language practice outside the school. In addition, the author notes the importance of the sociocultural component in learning - familiarity with the traditions and holidays of China, thereby increasing students' interest in the culture of the country of the language being studied. The article also notes the difficulties that both students and the teacher encounter in the classroom at North-Eastern State University, caused by the fact that in the same group are both students who have undergone language training in China and those who have not yet had a chance to study there. This is manifested in different levels of language proficiency by students, primarily in the level of their oral speech skills. This situation affects the group's learning speed and requires the teacher, in turn, to have a differentiated approach to conducting classes. The author suggests maximizing the practice of students using the Chinese language - conducting classes in the language they are studying, stimulating them to communicate only in Chinese within the class, and also, if possible, beyond. The basis of this practice is proposed to put thematic-situational training, for example, within the framework of the topic “Shopping”, interactively consider situations “in a clothing store”, “in a mobile phone store”, etc. At the same time, the author notes that the same situations proposed in the educational literature are perceived differently by native speakers and students, since they are filled with realities characteristic of China and different from the usual realities of Russia. To familiarize students with similar sociocultural content, it is proposed to use multimedia teaching aids - video and graphic presentations.

Abstract:
Many regions in Poland are said to be a unique example of preservation of cultural heritage. These include many examples of Pomorskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie and Dolnoslaskie voivodships. These regions are known to preserve the traditional way of life and customs as well as the architecture, especially the sacral architecture. It is also much easier to build mutual trust and social capital in them, because people from those regions can always refer to the universal values of their ancestors. However, there are also regions which, under the influence of migration and post-displacement processes after World War II, have lost their cultural and social character. Economic emigrants and displaced people from the Eastern Borderlands and Central Poland shared poverty and desire to settle. Will they succeed, and is there a chance to recreate and build a new identity? Those are the questions we are trying to answer, and the following article presents some of the results. By moving the border of autobiographical and ethnographic methods, authors adopt an autoethnographic method (narrative interviews, participant observation, biographical methods), which means turning to narratives as a way of research and as an expression of the search for a different relationship between the researcher and the subject and between the author and the reader. The researchers use their own experiences as a source of description of the culture in which they participate and examine. As a result, the text is a story created by the local community and researchers, aimed at reproducing and creating identity in the post-immigrant rural communities based on experienced and historical memory. The research was conducted in the years 2016-2017 in the above mentioned voivodships.

Abstract:
Youth are the leaders of tomorrow, but right now they face a formidable collection of problems that will determine the quality of their future lives and the lives of us all. Education, jobs, substance abuse, violence, sexuality, and marriage are examples of adolescent issues that demand special attention from researchers, youth activists and advocates, parents, and policymakers. In attempting to address these complex issues, we must be willing to confront ignorance, controversy, and cultural obstacles. Clear and focused policy and strategies must play a basic role in tackling these issues facing Indonesian adolescents. This paper provides a concise situation analysis of youth in Indonesia, focusing mainly on issues of sexuality and reproductive health, and describes current and future planned efforts by various governmental departments to deal with these issues. The paper also includes a set of recommendations for the priorities and focus of future initiatives to effectively reduce the risks faced by youth and to increase their chances of becoming educated, productive, healthy, and fulfilled members of society.
