Abstract:
The development and efficient functioning of entrepreneurship is the basis of a market economy, as well as the key to the country’s innovative socio-economic development and growing competitiveness on an international scale. The formation of a transparent and qualitative business climate is an incentive for the efficient entrepreneurship development. The paper is aimed at identifying structural-institutional transformations in the business environment and their impact on the development of small businesses. The analysis of socio-economic parameters of the business environment is based on the elasticity method and the system approach, which have been tested on the example of cities in the Western region of Ukraine. Outlining the features of setting up the business environment and its functioning has provided the grounds for detecting major problems hampering efficient business development. The comparative analysis has confirmed a close relationship between socio-economic transportation processes and conditions created for businesses. The evaluation of institutional environment has confirmed that cities striving to improve transparency in climate regulation and urban environment management achieve the growing investment activity and positive dynamics of small businesses development. The calculated elasticity coefficients prove that the growing investment activity positively impacts the number of small businesses and the volume of products sold by them. However, the expected growth in employment was not achieved due to the high level of shadow activity on the labor market and migration activity of the population.

Abstract:
In today’s dynamic era, a firm must continuously innovate to adapt to the rapid changes in business environment. Information and Communication Technology firms do not always need to invest heavily in new capital expenditures to come out with new technology, products or services, but can consider adopting business model innovation, as a novel and efficient way, to gain competitive advantage. The dynamic nature of the Information and Communication Technology industry shortens the life cycles of services and products. Thus, in many cases heavy capital expenditures may not make financial return justifiable. Business model innovation, which initiates novel ways of performing activities, linking customers, suppliers and partners, and/or changing participants in the transactions, may become an alternate solution. Information and Communication Technology firms can maximize business model innovation to leapfrog ahead of competition as first mover in a of high growth opportunity zone. This study investigates the role of business model innovation in embracing changes in the dynamic business environment of the Information Communication Technology industry, leading to competitive sustainability and firm performance. Using Structural Equation Modeling, this study performs the Confirmatory Factor Analysis tests on the observed and latent variables of business model innovation and firm performance and examines the structural model defining the relationships between these two latent variables. The study concludes that business model innovation has positive and direct impact to firm performance, and attained its objectives of contributing a theory based on synthesis and empirical evidence to further understanding how business model innovation impacts firm performance.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to study the changes in the conditions of the marketing environment of the enterprises functioning in the B2B market in order to determine new directions for managing their activities, which is especially relevant during the war, when domestic business suffered from many difficulties. The article states that due to the full-scale aggression of Russia, many enterprises were destroyed, there are significant restrictions on production, some companies found themselves in temporarily occupied territories without access to them, which forced them to look for new channels of promotion in the markets. It is indicated that, under such conditions, it is imperative to find such a format for the functioning of enterprises, which can ensure the maximum conservation of capacities and resources, and will allow to determine new directions of work. Entrepreneurial attitudes and the main parameters of the marketing environment of the business entities functioning were analyzed on the basis of official analytical studies. The specifics of state support for business, which were implemented through the tools of tax and monetary policy, and shown their effectiveness only partially during the martial law, are indicated. Domestic entrepreneurs had to adapt quickly to new business realities, under such conditions. The regional disproportions of the influence of active hostilities on the change of the marketing environment on the B2B market are emphasized, which negatively affected horizontal and vertical connections between enterprises, the reconfiguration of which requires a long time and significant resources. The most important problems, which are typical for domestic enterprises during the war, are identified, and recommendations are given to facilitate the functioning of B2B business in the conditions of the current marketing environment. The expediency of business adaptation due to the skillful use of Internet marketing, which allows attracting more users to the goods and services offered by enterprises, is noted. It is also suggested constant maintenance of communication with your teams to save the staff and labor. Conclusions made about the need in changing the marketing strategies and methods of business promotion on the B2B market, in determining the priority areas of enterprise functioning with their corresponding adjustment to the wartime conditions, were made.

Abstract:
A firm's ability to shape its policies to meet societal demands depends on how it perceives the opportunities and risks in its environment. The authors hypothesized that corporate culture plays a significant role in shaping organizational percep-tions. This article summarizes the findings of a study on how the organizational culture of a chemical firm headquartered in West Germany affected the evolution of its social and personnel policy from 1950 to 1989 given the changes in its sociopolitical environment during this period. The study shows that the culture of a company, by shaping its perceptions, plays a central role in determining the areas in which the organization is likely to be able to learn easily and those in which it is likely to resist changing its policies.

Abstract:
The business environment encompasses everything that affects a company's activities and can create opportunities or threats in its operations. Business environment factors consist of two main categories: micro, which involves individuals or parties with direct relationships with the business, and macro, which involves aspects such as economy, demographics, geography, technology, government, social, and political. The increasingly dynamic changes in the business environment and the rising level of competition have affected the sustainability of companies in various sectors, whether large, medium, or small. This research aims to analyze the impact of the business environment on business performance and identify strategies that can be applied to face these challenges. Based on the analysis, the increasingly intense competitive conditions force companies to develop more proactive and innovative strategies, particularly in the marketing aspect. These findings are expected to help the company anticipate changes in the business environment and enhance its competitiveness in the market.

Abstract:
<p>Background: Due to constant changes and unpredictability in a turbulent environment, the traditional way of planning does not seem to work anymore. Therefore, new approaches to the external and internal conditions need to develop in order to cope with the environmental turbulence. </p><p>Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to define a turbulent environment and identify how an organisation can cope with this environment. Procedure: We have developed a frame of reference mainly consisting of theories regarding a turbulent environment and change. In addition, we have selected eight guiding factors, which we have used when studying, systemising, and comparing how contemporary literature suggests that an organisation can cope with a turbulent environment. </p><p>Results: The conclusions we have come to are that with a definition of the environment as being fast-changing and of chaotic nature, where the changes are continuous, emergent, small, big or somewhere in between, and where paradoxes play an important role, it is necessary to develop an organisational structure, leadership, human resource, and corporate culture, in which the objective always is to create dynamics and to build in an acceptance of change.</p>

Abstract:
Organizational leaders in the 21st century face relentless changes in the business environments in which they operate. The diversity, intensity, and rapidity of these changes create volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), which challenge leaders on ways to lead effectively as existing methods prove inadequate. The problem in this study was that of inadequate leader preparedness to lead and win in VUCA environments. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of 15 Nigerian corporate executives about their VUCA business environment and the strategies they employed for VUCA-readiness and success within the manufacturing sector. The research question guiding the study related to the lived experiences of corporate executives in manufacturing companies in Nigeria regarding VUCA-readiness and succeeding in a VUCA environment. Chaos theory and complexity leadership theory were used to frame the study. Data collection occurred through snowball sampling to interview 15 participants who are senior executives in large manufacturing corporations in Lagos, Nigeria. Data was analyzed through Ricoeur’s theory of interpretation and member checking. As a result, 4 key themes that emerged were business agility, strategic workforce and demand planning, recovery management for organizational resilience, and conscientious and value-based leadership. The study findings may contribute to positive social change in providing strategies for organizational sustainability, business readiness, responsive leadership, and enhanced employee well-being in VUCA. Recommendations include VUCA training for preparedness and organizational resilience.

Sebhatu, Abiel. "Deregulation of the Swedish Audit Industry and Changes in the Competitive Environment : Conflict, Imitation, and Innovativeness." Thesis, Umeå universitet, Handelshögskolan vid Umeå universitet, 2011. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-45182.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis investigates the deregulation of the audit industry in Sweden, the changing competitive environment and innovativeness, a research gap that has not yet been bridged. This paper raises the question of how the innovativeness of firms within the audit industry have changed after deregulation. The ambition of this research is to have both theoretical and practical knowledge contribution. The theoretical framework constructed for this research is rooted in the literature review of three areas: strategy and competition, deregulation, and organizational innovativeness. These three streams of research are used in order to examine the expectations that the industry has on the changing strategic landscape. Four perspectives and schools of thought in strategy and competition literature are reviewed: the competitive forces, strategic conflict school, resource-based school, and dynamic school. These schools are then put into two categories that are substantial opposites of one another; market power and efficiency. The need to consider these perspectives are addressed as follows: the perspective of competitive forces allows for understanding the industry structure, the strategic conflict school – to analyze the moves and interactions between competitors, the resource-based school – to understand firms resources, and finally, the dynamic school – to understand firms processes and capabilities. Summarizing and integrating these perspectives formed a hypothesized understanding that reflected the effects of deregulation and organizational innovativeness. In order to avoid modest pattern of deregulatory effects that could emerge by observations made in the early stage of deregulation, a methodological point of departure that is socially constructed and the production of knowledge that is based on interpretations and narratives were argued for. The research is furthermore based on a mix of deductive and inductive approach. The discussion with an industry member led to an interesting research context chosen as unit of analysis, which included the emerging tension between auditors and accounting-consultants. While the auditors’ believed in negative effects from the deregulation, the accounting-consultants had the opposite perception. Case-study approach with semi-structured and open-ended interviews were conducted on representatives from six firms, half of which represented the auditors and the rest the accounting-consultants.  The presentation of results followed the structure of market power, efficiency, and organizational innovativeness. The analysis of the results shows how firms within the audit industry had changed during the transition towards post-deregulation era. It shows how the previous construction of the audit-industry, characterized by homogeneity, has been decomposed and transformed to become more heterogeneous, by the new attractions and alternatives that now exist on the market. These attractions and alternatives creates incitement for decreased interaction between competitors that causes firms to engage in conflicts, and to redistribute their resources in order to imitate each others processes, which in turn creates new organizational innovativeness. The findings of this research also shows how the resources that were possessed by the firm before the deregulation tend to determine how the firm utilize the innovativeness in relation to the market after the deregulation.

Abstract:
This thesis examines students’ understanding of economic aspects of global environmental problems. The first aim is to identify and characterise changes in business and economics students’ conceptions of negative environmental effects and pricing goods and services. The second aim is to identify and characterise changes in students’ values, beliefs and personal norms regarding effective solutions to climate change problems. Three studies were carried out with students in Swedish upper secondary schools. The first study used an open-ended questionnaire and is presented in Article I. The second and third studies drew on a longitudinal study, using both qualitative and quantitative research methods and results are presented in Article II and Article III. Article I shows that students’ awareness of environmental issues varies in relation to the type of good. Some goods are seen as more harmful to nature than others, for example, jeans were not perceived as environmentally negative while beef burgers and travel services were to some extent. This indicates that environmental references are often characterised through perceptible aspects of goods’ production i.e. being more expensive because of environmentally friendly production. Furthermore, some understanding of negative externalities was revealed. Interestingly, when value aspects of how prices should be set students more frequently refer to environmental impact. Article II describes changes in students’ price and environmental conceptions over the course of a year. It identifies the fragmentary nature of students’ every-day thinking in relation to productivity, consumer preference and negative externalities. Differences in conceptions of how prices are linked to negative impact is characterised in terms of basic, partial and complex understandings of productivity as well as basic and partial understandings of consumers’ influences. Partial conceptions are seen as students’ conceptions in a process of change towards a more scientific understanding of price and negative environmental impact. Most interestingly, the results show that more than one aspect of environmental impact and pricing are simultaneously relevant. This is highlighted by a change from views putting productivity at the centre for how prices are set to include consumers’ preferences when judgmentally describing how prices should be set. The results conclude that students show a broader content knowledge regarding pricing and the environment when including normative preferences. Article III explores changes in students’ value orientations, beliefs regarding efficient solutions to climate change and norms for pro-environmental actions. Small changes are observed regarding the three constructs. Value changes are reported in terms of a small average increase in importance of altruistic, biospheric and egoistic orientations while common individual changes are shown in shifts between weak and strong values. Beliefs regarding efficient climate change solutions are taxes and legislations while changes in market prices are perceived as being least effective. The findings show no direct relations between values and norms hence change in norms is associated with values through changes in beliefs.<br><p>At the time of the doctoral defense, the following paper was unpublished and had a status as follows: Paper 3: Manuscript.</p>

Abstract:
Micro-consultants are from small independent consultancy practices; who sometimes work directly with a single client on embedded assignments. Embedded microconsultants operate within the ambiguous and fragmented environments of their client’s. Micro-consultants have to quickly make sense of their client’s working environments; adapting their operations and identities within these, to ensure appropriate advice and support is provided. When embedded, micro-consultants are usually expected to represent their client; whilst also retaining their independence. Consequently, micro-consultants can sometimes be unsure who they represent (themselves or their client) and which identity aspects they should be promoting. Identity is the sum of, lifestyle, experiences and knowledge of an individual which is developed over time, and provides awareness and guidance for future activities. To some extent micro-consultants can choose which aspects of their identity they wish to promote or suppress. However, some groups can enforce aspects of their identity on their members which can contradict the micro-consultant’s base awareness and guidelines which can lead to dilemmas and uncertainties. This research explores the interactions, changing identities and ensuing tensions of a micro-consultant during a long term embedded assignment with a single client. The ethnographic study uses authoethnographic narrative, along with participant observation techniques and reflective practices, to provide insights on the key influences and other factors which can affect micro-consultant identities. This thesis also provides an indication of the complexities and ambiguities faced by a micro-consultant working on an embedded assignment. The research also highlights some of the many dilemmas and uncertainties facing a micro-consultant in this environment; focussing on identity related dilemmas. These lead to a number of identity related paradoxes for the micro-consultant; including assignment success, relationships and the provision of knowledge. There have been many corporate ethnographic studies examining different parts of organisation behaviour, including consultancy houses and organisation change environments. However, this is the first study to provide detailed insights into the world of a micro-consultant change management specialist, his operations interactions and dilemmas; providing a significant contribution to the world of management consultancy and organisation behaviour.

Kohn, Christofer. "Centralisation of Distribution Systems and its Environmental Effects." Licentiate thesis, Linköping University, Linköping University, Department of Management and Engineering, 2005. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-2990.

Full text
Abstract:
<p>Many believe that the current application of modern logistics solutions in general and centralisation of distribution systems in particular is damaging from an environmental perspective. The reason for this claim is that when a distribution system is centralised, products need to be shipped over greater distances. This causes an increase in transport work, which in turn is believed to cause an increase in emissions. Further, the decision to centralise distribution can be characterised as a structural decision and earlier research has helped illustrate how such decisions have greater impact on the overall performance of a distribution system than decisions taken at subsequent levels (tactical and operative). The reason for this is that structural decisions help create new opportunities to make other logistical decisions that are beneficial for the performance of a distribution system, as measured in terms of costs and service.</p><p>It is also acknowledged that there is a lack of research illustrating the actual environmental effects of centralisation. This area is the theme of this thesis and the overall purpose is to describe and analyse how centralisation of a distribution system can affect the environment. This purpose has been divided into two research questions, where the first one reads:</p><p>- How does physical centralisation of a distribution system influence the environment?</p><p>This question aims at investigating what effect centralisation has on the amount of emissions that are caused by transport in a distribution system. One of the main advantages with a centralised distribution system is that emergency deliveries are expected to decrease. This type of transport is often performed by airfreight, which is a mode of transport that is regarded to cause the largest amount of environmental stress among the four most commonly used transport modes. The argument that is made is that even though centralisation causes an increase in transport work, this must not necessarily mean that emissions increase.</p><p>As indicated above, earlier studies on structural changes in distribution systems have shown that this type of decision creates new opportunities to make other decisions that are beneficial for the performance of a distribution system, albeit in terms of costs and service. The aim of the second research question is consequently to study this issue, but from an environmental perspective. This question therefore reads:</p><p>- How do structural decisions in logistics create new opportunities to improve on the environmental performance of a distribution system?</p><p>The results of the study show that it is not sufficient to only consider transport work and emergency deliveries when the environmental effect of a centralisation is to be evaluated. It has also been concluded that centralisation creates an opportunity to make improvements within the distribution system that can prove beneficial from an environmental perspective. In summary, three characteristics besides transport work and emergency deliveries were identified as being of importance when considering the environmental effects of a centralisation. These included centralised flow, modal change, and bargaining power.</p><p>This model (<em>see full pdf</em>) does not aim to include all characteristics that can be relevant in an environmental evaluation of a centralisation, but rather those that have been found significant in this study. However, the model helps illustrate that there are many aspects that need to be considered in such an evaluation and that depending on the characteristics of the distribution system at hand the results can vary quite extensively.</p>

Abstract:
Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2004.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The corporation is fast becoming, or may already have become, the prevalent structure in human society. As such, its successes and failures impact heavily on society as a whole. This study will endeavour to examine past shortfalls in corporate thinking and practice, explaining much of this by referring to lag between societal and corporate change in their respective responses to globalisation. It is furthermore argued that this change is still far from complete( d), if indeed it ever will be complete( d) with a fixed end. This global change, has to a large extent, caught corporations off guard, with their old management styles no longer providing results - with civil resistance to corporate activity resulting in some instances. The central aim of this study is to not only understand this situation, but also to explore potential remedies. In so doing two unique ideal states, namely the old and the new company, will be developed. With the old company representing corporate structure and thinking that no longer functions effectively. The new company, on the other hand, is not a present state but a future one. Thus it is the destination of the societal and corporate changes examined within this thesis. Consequently, the main subject examined will be a move away from the old company. Finally, it will be shown that dealing with problems within the corporate context no longer requires the heavy hand of yesteryear. Instead, a proactive approach should be adopted, both for financial and ethical reasons.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Dit kan geargumenteer word dat korporasies binnekort die dominante struktuur in menslike organisasie kan wees, indien dit nie reeds die geval is nie.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter gives an overview of the principles of life cycle assessment (LCA), supply chain management (SCM) and design for the environment (DfE). They are all placed at Level 2 in the CapSEM Model as tools for enhancing the product by improving the actual production processes that take place at different stages and subsystems in the life cycle of a product. One way of analysing and ameliorating the environmental performance of a product can be by analysing the environmental aspects and impacts initially by performing a life cycle assessment aimed at finding the most significant environmental impacts in the life cycle of the product. These hotspots can then be identified under different suppliers in the upstream value chain. Results from this analysis should then be addressed in the design of a new product, and further result in changes to the supply chain by supply chain management. An optimal solution for improving the environmental impacts at the different stages of the life cycle of a product, can be achieved at the end by introducing this into design principles as better specification of the performance at each stage in the life cycle of the product. This chapter also introduces green public procurement as a driver for change in the supply chain.

Abstract:
The business environment in tourism encompasses a set of factors influencing the establishment, development, and sustainability of businesses in this sector, including economic, legislative, and market conditions. The dynamics of this environment are crucial for the economic stability of the sector. The main objective of this paper is to model the development of business establishments and closures in the tourism sector based on historical data and the influence of selected factors. The data used for this study were obtained from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic upon request. To achieve this objective, correlation and regression analysis were employed to examine relationships between economic variables, while a Monte Carlo simulation was used to predict future business activity trends. The results indicated that there are only moderately statistically significant relationships between economic factors and business establishment or closure. Domestic tourists' expenditures showed a weak positive correlation with business formation, whereas expenditures on inbound tourism had the opposite effect. The Monte Carlo simulation suggested that, assuming historical trends continue, the number of newly established businesses will stabilize at around 7,500 per year, while the number of closed businesses will be approximately 6,000 per year. Extreme scenarios demonstrated that economic fluctuations could lead to significant deviations, with the pessimistic scenario predicting a higher number of business closures and the optimistic scenario indicating a more favorable sectoral development.

Abstract:
The research studies the international marketing strategies of agri-food companies engaged in export. The aim of the study is to form a methodological basis for the selection of an international marketing strategy for the export of an agri-industrial company. The main research method of study is content analysis. The paper provides an example of Slovak agri-food companies engaged in the export of their own brands. The results of the study show that for agri-food companies, the most productive type of strategy is the strategy of growth and support of their own trademark. The developed model for substantiating the selection of an international marketing strategy of an agri-food company can serve as a tool for market penetration or adaptation, as it allows for step-by-step adjustments to the developed sales strategy of behavior in foreign markets in accordance with changes in the market situation.

Abstract:
Different internal and external causes make differences in doing business. Changes within an organization may be caused by mergers and acquisitions, crises, organizational culture, and application of new technology, but also by external changes such as sustainable development, digitalization, and COVID19. Changes in business environment affect the change in behaviour, competencies and values as well as in business activities, all in order to achieve organizational goals. Sustainable development brings sustainable practice into business. Each organization considers economic, social, and environmental dimensions of their business and implementation of ESG (environment, social, and governance) criteria. Digitalization affects business by adapting and combining different technologies that provide the creation of new products/services, processes, decisions, relations between companies, employees and customers, and business performance. There are also relations between the causes. Digitalization impacts sustainability and vice versa. Moreover, sustainable development and digitalization influence how an organization adapts and runs its business.

Abstract:
Changes in the current and future business environments are pushing business managers to always be on the alert, looking for viable solutions to constantly adapt, to be able to face reality. The responsibilities of managers are overwhelming and stressful in these conditions, and constantly increasing in the current conditions of permanently changing restrictions generated by the Covid19 pandemic. There are businesses that thrive even in extreme operating conditions and others that go bankrupt. And there are always other new types of business can appear. The question is: "Why do some managers manage to keep the business profitable or even develop it further, and others are unable to do it?" (Collins, 2010). The answer is complex, and this complexity is related to the overall change of the business environment, including the attitude of managers to change, their vision and strategy, the confrontation with reality, etc. In this paper, I will analyse the attitude of business managers in the Jiu Valley and how they act on current challenges / changes. This research is conducted in order to study the response of managers to change, the way they approach these changes and how they come up and look for viable business strategies.

Abstract:
[This paper is published in Informing Science: the International Journal of an Emerging Transdiscipline, Volume 19.] As the complexity of a system grows, the challenge of informing the stakeholders of that system grows correspondingly. Nowhere is that challenge more daunting than in business education, where globalization, technological innovation, and increasingly complicated regulations continuously transform the business environment facing graduates and practitioners. Informing science theory proposes that different levels of complexity require different channels if effective informing is to be achieved. The paper first examines how two important sources of complexity—the diversity of clients and the ruggedness of the business landscape—are changing, and how these changes demand vastly more interactive informing channels if impact is to be achieved. Using an exploratory case study methodology, it then takes a detailed look at how one institution—the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business—has introduced a variety of new channels, many of which enable informing flows without necessarily directing them, to adapt to these environmental changes. It then considers both outcomes related to these individual informing channels and college-wide outcomes related to a broad and deep mosaic of informing flows. Finally, it considers the question of the resources required to support these new channels and the relationship between resource acquisition and channel introduction. The proposed framework for looking at business school informing channels can be applied by administrators, faculty members, and key stakeholders in understanding, evaluating, and planning programs and activities supporting informing in a complex environment. Ultimately, the informing business school framework may also provide a means for communicating impact to business school accrediting agencies (such as AACSB).

Paul, Karen. What Can Business Learn from Botanical Gardens? An International Comparison of Approaches to Sustainability. Florida International University, 2025. https://doi.org/10.25148/cob.2025.25.

Full text
Abstract:
This study compares sustainability in US, European, and Asian businesses with an international set of botanical gardens to see what businesses can learn from botanical gardens how to adjust to new demands for increased sustainability. The study uses intentional sampling to compare businesses recognized for sustainability success to globally renowned botanical gardens. Content analysis of annual reports is used to identify the extent to which the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of sustainability are represented. Findings show US businesses emphasize the economic dimension of sustainability more than European and Asian businesses. European and Asian businesses give more attention to the social and environmental dimensions of sustainability than US businesses. Botanical gardens give high emphasis to both social and environmental dimensions. These findings demonstrate how organizations can balance competing stakeholder interests with sustainability as a goal. US businesses should be aware of the more balanced approach shown by European and Asian businesses. Future research should consider changes over time in how businesses operationalize sustainability, and botanical gardens should be aware of potential threats to their traditional and current emphasis on the environment.

Nosova, Olga. Multinational Companies' Policies in Green Transition: Economic and Social Benefits. Vilnius Business College, 2024. https://doi.org/10.57005/ab.2024.4.4.

Full text
Abstract:
The paper analyses the multinational companies’ policies in the green transition and its consequences for the environment, society, and economy. Multinational corporations (MNCs) in green transition operate across numerous nations and sectors and have the resources, and experience in sustainable development. MNCs became increasingly involved in large-scale renewable energy project development, such as wind and solar power, serving as project developers, investors, and technology suppliers. It is already well recognized that MNCs may play a key role in disseminating essential climate change mitigation technologies, particularly the transfer of knowledge and capacities from lead markets to the rest of the globe. The green transition faces many challenges: high costs, regulatory barriers, technological advancements, and costeffectiveness. These approaches explain the global reach of environmental problems and enhance significant changes in green policy. MNCs’ policies contribute to sustainability but face the multiple challenges caused by local regulations in environment protection policy, investment risks and financing constraints, and climate changes. MNCs provide policies in the green transition by integrating sustainability into their business strategies and operations. The legislation, incentives, and supportive frameworks of the subsidiaries’ country destination create the basis for the involvement of MNCs in the green transition.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper examines the evolution of the cyclicality of real wages and employment in four Latin American economies (Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico) during the period 1980-2010. Wages are highly pro-cyclical during the 1980s and early 1990s, a period characterized by high inflation. As inflation declined wages became less pro-cyclical, a feature that is consistent with emerging downward wage rigidities in a low-inflation environment. Compositional effects associated with changes in labor participation along the business cycle appear to matter less for estimates of wage cyclicality than in developed economies.

he Food Standards Agency (FSA) is responsible for food safety across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. As part of its work on the Achieving Business Compliance (ABC) programme, the FSA wanted to understand more about how other regulators have approached regulatory change programmes, with a view to introducing their own programme. The FSA wanted to learn from what had happened in the past, explore the current landscape of regulatory change, and identify what good practice looks like. The ABC team also wanted to understand the challenges and barriers faced by other regulators and how these were dealt with, so they could learn more about what works. The overarching aim of the research was to identify transferable lessons learnt, and good practice in regulatory change. In particular, this focused on exploring: the planning and implementation of change stakeholder engagement and relationships outcomes and lessons learned The scope of the research was not restricted to the food landscape and included a broad range of regulators with a focus on, but not restricted to, those who operate within an inspection, safety and standards environment.

(CIEH), Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Online display of food hygiene ratings by food businesses in Wales. Food Standards Agency, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.46756/sci.fsa.lvn877.

Full text
Abstract:
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) was commissioned by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to facilitate a workshop to explore regulators views about proposals to introduce mandatory online display of food hygiene ratings by food businesses in Wales. This report details the findings. Participants were supportive of the FSA’s proposals and welcomed the opportunity for engagement at an early stage. They were unanimous in their views that mandating the display of food hygiene ratings online by businesses would represent a natural progression of the current scheme which has evolved over time, reflecting changes in the landscape whereby online food sales have increased dramatically. A gradual approach to introducing any new requirements for food businesses was favoured with voluntary online display by pathfinder businesses initially, followed by phased implementation of a statutory scheme. The likely IT challenges associated with implementation, particularly for small food businesses was highlighted as a concern by participants who welcomed the prospect of a potential technological solution which would automatically update business websites and social media accounts with up-to-date ratings. The resource implications for already stretched local authorities associated with verifying business compliance was highlighted, but the opportunity for this surveillance to be done remotely by the FSA or others was identified, with LAs only needing to be notified in the event of a problem or non-compliance being identified for potential enforcement action. Investment in technology was identified as key to the success of this initiative as there was a general feeling that whilst the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) has developed over time, the technology supporting it has not. Participants suggested that a mobile app should be developed to provide consumers with quick, easy to access up-to-date ratings information. A mobile app would also enable other benefits to be realised. Early engagement about proposals with aggregators and identification of pathfinder food businesses were identified as potential next steps for the FSA, together with continuation of work to explore technological fixes to reduce potential burdens on businesses and regulators associated with implementation of the Scheme.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the urgent problem of enabling better communication of IT-specialists in their business and interpersonal interaction using information and communication technologies, including cloud technologies. It is emphasized, that effective communication is an integral part of the successful professional work of IT-professionals, but in recent years it has undergone significant transformations, which have been expressed in new forms and means of communication, its content changes, its complications and volume increases, the need to improve its accuracy, and the level of understanding for a wide range of people. Certain peculiarities of communication in the IT-environment have been discussed. It is noted that typical forms of communication in the IT-environment are synchronous and asynchronous ones. The authors insist that during their professional career IT-specialists communicate in the professional community from a variety of positions and common types of task formulation can be expressed through verbal or symbolic communication means. Due to the specifics of their professional activities, IT-professionals often need to communicate using synchronous communication (chats, video chats, audio chats, instant messaging) and asynchronous communication (email, forums, comments) tools, hence there is a demand to teach corresponding communication skills at universities. Certain practical examples of teaching communication skills using modern technologies are given. Advantages of cloud technologies for better communication within a company or an educational institution are presented. Microsoft Office 365 services, which can be successfully used to enable better communication and collaboration within a company or an educational institution are analyzed.
