Abstract:
A great effort has been carried out over the recent years in the understanding of the flow field and heat transfer in the internal cooling channels present in turbine blades. Indeed, advanced cooling schemes have not only lead to the increase of the gas turbine efficiency by increasing the Turbine Inlet Temperature above the material melting temperature, but also the increase of the turbine lifespan. To allow such progresses, modern experimental and numerical techniques have been widely applied in order to interpret and optimize the aerodynamics and heat transfer in internal cooling channels.

A theoretical and laboratory Investigation of rotating gravity currents and channel flows is presented. The study is applicable to buoyancy driven flows through straits, mid ocean ridge valleys and fracture zones, and intermittent gravity currents. In the theoretical study two extensions are achieved to the energy conserving theory ofHacker (1996). Hacker considered three flow geometries, case A - weak rotation, case B - intermediate rotation and case C - strong rotation. Firstly, the theory is extended to include dissipation. Abstract:
This thesis examines buoyancy driven steady flows in mouths of sea straits and around coastal protrusions. At high latitudes, the Coriolis force keeps these currents banked against the coast even around relatively sharp re-entrant (convex) corners with radii of curvature that are comparable to the width of the current. On the other hand, if the radius of curvature of the corner is much smaller than the width of the current, the current may leave the coast at the apex of the corner. A central part of the thesis is the solution of the nonlinear problem of a steady inviscid reduced gravity flow

Flame Transfer Function (FTF) measurements performed by the Wiener-Hopf Inversion suggest, that low rotation rates lead to deep gaps in the gain and the flame becomes almost insensitive to aco

We employ a new decomposition for kinematic simulation which ensures that the boundary conditions are automatically satisfied while preserving incompressibility. We impose statistics up to second order, including the Reynolds shear-stress and one-dimensional spectral densities. These fields are used as a Lagrangian model and the statistics of one particle, and particle pairs are calculated in a kinematic simulation

Abstract:
The flow of a rarefied gas between two plates of a micro channel, commonly called Poiseuille flow, has been extensively studied in the BGK approximation. In particular, the Analytical Discrete Ordinates (ADO) method determines the velocity profile and flow rate efficiently and accurately. Here, an equally efficient and precise solution is presented using the method of doubling, which however is arguably a numerically simpler and a more natural approach avoiding eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Highly accurate benchmark results for Poiseuille flow are reported for use as a benchmark.

In this research, an elastic cylinder that utilized vortex-induced vibration (VIV) was applied to improve convective heat transfer rates by disrupting the thermal boundary layer. Rigid and elastic cylinders were placed across a fluid channel. Vortex shedding around the cylinder led to the periodic vibration of the cylinder. As a result, the flow-structure interaction (FSI) increased the disruption of the thermal boundary layer, and therefore, improved the mixing process at the boundary. This study aims to improve convective heat transfer rate by increasing the perturbation in the fluid flow.
