Tailings (mining waste) disposal is a significant consideration for the mining industry, with the majority of the ore processed in most mining operations ending up as tailings. This creates large volumes of tailings, which must be handled and stored responsibly to avoid potential environmental catastrophes. The most common form of tailings storage facility is the impoundment, where tailings are contained within a basin, with beaches forming around the perimeter of the impoundment and a pond standing in the middle. A relatively new method of tailings storage is to create a 'stack', whereby t

Submarine channel-levee architecture is a result of interaction between turbiditic flows and the bathymetry that they encounter on the slope and that they themselves construct. However, the spatio-temporal evolution of channellevee systems, i.e., their manner of spatial accretion is not fully understood. In addition, the controls on the patterns of channel distribution and stacking remain relatively poorly understood. The results presented in this thesis are based on the interpretation of a 3D seismic survey located in water depths of about 1000 to 2000 m on the upper slope of the Amazon Fan.

碩士
逢甲大學
水利工程與資源保育研究所
96
A numerical model is set up to simulate the density current on slope channel by solving the Navier-Stokes equations and advection-diffusion equation. This thesis presents a finite difference method with MAC staggered grid system. We apply the turbulent model, Large Eddy Simulation (LES), to calculate the influence of turbulence. By coordinate transformation, unregular physical region can be transformed to rectangular computational region. It is easy to handle the numerical process. The concept of Schmidt number, the ratio of momentum and mass mixings, is use

Four approaches were involved in development including data collection and analysis, file conversion to computer format, slope classification, and regression analysis for slope and the fundamental river parameters. In fact, the characteristics of a non-dimensional channel profile can be captured by Johnson SB distribution curve. Under the least square fitting

The Scotian margin of the east coast of Canada has a large theoretical gas hydrate stability zone (GHSZ) yet review of extensive industry seismic data reveals a prominent BSR at only one location. 3D seismic reflection and long offset (9 km) pre-stack 2D multichannel seismic data were used to study the velocity structure and geophysical characteristics of the hydrate zone and surrounding regions. The Mohican Channel study area shows a unique double BSR at 300 to 450 m below the seafloor in the western section of the study area immediately adjacent to the Mohican Channel in a water depth r
