Abstract:
The aims of this study were to describe and illustrate cypselae of 15 Mexican species of Mutisieae from observations using optical and scanning electron microscopy. The cypselae are heteromorphic with pilose, sericeous or glandular indumentum. The primary sculpture of the surface has two microstructural patterns: reticulate and plicate. The secondary sculpture is striate in 13 taxa, but in two species, Chaptalia estribensis and C. mexicana, differences were found in the secondary sculpture of the external and internal cypselae. The most distinctive anatomical trait is in the epicarp, which has

Gerbera hieracioides (Kunth) Zardini of the Gerbera-complex (Mutisieae, Asteraceae/Compositae) is distributed in Ecuador and Peru. This perennial herb was first named as Onoseris hieracioides Kunth and was later recognised as Trichocline hieracioides (Kunth) Ferreyra. Now it is generally treated as Gerbera hieracioides (Kunth) Zardini but it has never been included in any section of Gerbera. In this study, the position of Gerbera hieracioides is assessed based on morphology and a molecular phylogeny that includes G. hieracioides and 28 other species from the Gerbera-complex.

Abstract “Upper Languedoc has grain and this country [lower Languedoc] harvests oils, besides its manufactures. But everyone knows that the fruits of the earth … are exposed to a thousand hazards before they reach maturity, and that it is not the same with manufactures, [for] they depend on the artistry, in dustriousness, and application of men.” Thus did Intendant Henri d’Aguesseau, a Colbertian through and through, reassure skeptics in the Estates of Languedoc in 1681 that their interest-free loans to the Royal Manufactures of fine woolens at Saptes and Villenouvette would bear fruit.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the ideas of earlier neomercantilists prior the work of Friedrich List. It starts with politician Alexander Hamilton's tentative neomercantilism wherein he thought that an independent United States should continue to focus its economy on agriculture and resist protective measures designed to build up local manufacturing. On the other hand, Jean Antoine Chaptal had a large impact on List's work as he focused on French industrialization and the importation of British engineering talents. Additionally, the chapter notes Mathew Carey's free trade criticisms had distinctive features of his version of neomercantilism, such as its patriotic and social content.
