Abstract:
One of the biometric methods in authentication systems is the writer verification/identification using password handwriting. The main objective of this paper is to present a robust writer verification system by using cursive texts as well as block letter words. To evaluate the system, two datasets have been used. One of them is called Secure Password DB 150, which is composed of 150 users with 18 samples of single character words per user. Another dataset is public and called IAM online handwriting database, and it is composed of 220 users of cursive text samples. Each sample has been defined by a set of features, composed of 67 geometrical, statistical, and temporal features. In order to get more discriminative information, two feature reduction methods have been applied, Fisher Score and Info Gain Attribute Evaluation. Finally, the classification system has been implemented by hold-out cross validation and k-folds cross validation strategies for three different classifiers, K-NN, Naïve Bayes and Bayes Net classifiers. Besides, it has been applied for verification and identification approaches. The best results of 95.38% correct classification are achieved by using the k-nearest neighbor classifier for single character DB. A feature reduction by Info Gain Attribute Evaluation improves the results for Naïve Bayes Classifier to 98.34% for IAM online handwriting DB. It is concluded that the set of features and its reduction are a strong selection for the based-password handwritten writer identification in comparison with the state-of-the-art.

Abstract:
Text-independent Chinese writer identification does not depend on the text content of the query and reference handwritings. In order to deal with the uncertainty of the text content, text-independent approaches usually give special attention to the global writing style of handwriting, rather than the properties of each individual character or word. Thanks to the existence of high-frequency characters, some characters probably appear in both the query and reference handwritings in most cases. If character images in the query handwriting are similar to those in the reference handwriting, this query handwriting and the corresponding reference handwriting are very likely to be written by the identical writer. In this paper, we exploit the above characteristic to improve the performance of Chinese writer identification. We first present an identification scheme using edge co-occurrence feature (ECF). Then, we detect the character pairs in the query and reference handwritings using a two-step framework and propose the displacement field-based similarity (DFS) to determine whether a character pair is written by the identical writer. The character pairs help to re-rank the candidate list obtained by text-independent ECF-based similarity and finally decide the writer of the query handwriting. The proposed method is evaluated on the HIT-MW and CASIA-2.1 datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms the existing ones, and its Top-1 accuracy on the two datasets reaches 97.1% and 98.3%, respectively.

Abstract:
Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter has been focused onby critics from different aspects due to his ambiguity used in the novel. Hawthorne himself has been doubted as to whether he is a misogynist or a feminist when describing the female character, Hester Prynne. This article supports the idea that Hawthorne holds the idea offeminism in his work The Scarlet Letter. A writer who mirrors Hester’s life as his own cannot be a misogynist; a writer who honors a woman’s rebelling against patriarchy cannot be a misogynist; a writer who has a beloved wife and mother cannot be a misogynist. Harmonic family relationships, sympathetic character descriptions, and mild demonstrations against patriarchy all prove that Hawthorne is not a misogynist, but a feminist. Hawthorne depicts through four aspects on Hester’s life, Hester’s rebel, Hawthorne’s own family relationship to advocate feminism in his novel.

Based on the analysis, the writer finds out that among the nine dystopian society characteristics, the writer has found five characteristics that are reflected in Wither, namely the society is an illusion of utopia world; the natural world is being a banished and distrusted world; perception under constant surveillance; fear ot the outside world; and information, independent thought, and freedom are restricted. In addition, the analysis of the main character’s rebellion shows that the rebellion happens as the impact of dystopian society faced by the main character. Rhine’s rebellion is done in four ways – having intention to escape from Linden’s house, refusing to be consummated by her husband, having relationship with Gabriel, and escaping. The reasons of Rhine’s rebellion are wanting to be reunited with her brother and wanting to have freedom. After doing the analysis, the writer finds out that science and technology should be developed for human’s better condition. Science and technology must not be expected beyond God’s power. When science and technology is developed without consideration in terms of humanity, it will result in chaosness.

Through the use of the writer’s self-reflection during this practicum, the writer realized that self-reflection helps the writer to improve his way of thinking and acting in his teaching practice.

Abstract:
In the present paper the scholar refers to the first part of her theoretical concept “psychotype – creator – image” and focuses on the peculiarities of Vasyl Stus’s character. This approach helps to defi ne the psychological type of the poet. Psychic ways of adaptation always leave a mark on the character of the individual. The coincidence between indirect observations of friends, acquaintances and psychological self-characteristics of the writer gives especially important information for the researcher. The analyzed materials include literary texts and different everyday life records that contain psychologically mediated observations and self-observations on the character of Vasyl Stus. These data allow identifying the specific psychological structure of personality based on many characteristics. The attributes ‘strong-willed’, ‘vulnerable’, ‘sensitive’, ‘quicktempered’, ‘uncompromising’, and ‘intellectual’ may be recognized as key features of this personality. The psychological exclusivity of Vasyl Stus is presented by the characteristics ‘self-suffi cient’, ‘intellectually deep man of strong will’, ‘inclined to expansive reaction and unsuited for compromise’. The scrupulous attention to the moral, volitional, emotional and intellectual components of Vasyl Stus’s character brings the researcher closer to determining the author’s model of the world order. The defined psychotype of the writer helps to understand the interdependence of the psychological nature of the author and his literary style

Abstract:
In many of Amélie Nothomb's autofictional novels, the final step toward regaining the jouissance of her lost childhood is the development of the character Amélie-the-writer. Nothomb depicts in multiple accounts her character Amélie's coming to writing, a process that mirrors her nostalgia for the tube-like identity of her prelinguistic self and her perceived divinity during her childhood in Japan, as well as her desire to return to the womb. This article considers first the characteristics that are associated with Amélie's childhood, her sense of a divine and mythic self, secondly the various scenes in Nothomb's autofictional novels in which the narrator Amélie experiences a moment of death and rebirth through violence at sea, and, finally, how the character Amélie achieves, to some extent, the desired return to the ideal of childhood through the creation of a fictional self in her writing.

Abstract:
I.M. Efimov is a Soviet and Russian abroad writer. His historical works have profound philosophical content. This philosophical content is revealed when we compare his historiosophical treatises about the character and patterns of historical development and historical novels. Philosophical ideas of the writer appear on different poetic levels of the work, and above all - in the plot and character system. Historical novels and historical-philosophical treatises constitute a single historiosophical system and relate to each other as theoretical and empirical material, therefore they cannot be considered one without the other. However, many critics analyze the writer's historical works in isolation from his philosophical concept, which makes such an analysis incomplete and sometimes erroneous. In our study, an attempt was made to trace the connection between the individual characters of the artistic historical works of I. Efimov with his philosophical concept.

Full text
Abstract:
The review of Witold Gombrowicz’s self-image due to questions and tasks of anthropology of literature pro- vides a possibility to make an analysis of such aspects and motivators as family, civilization process, role in national cultural process, position in social formations. Analysis is based on Gombrowicz’s prose, memoirs and personal correspondence. Psychological portrait of character-narrator and author himself – autobiographism is pronounced in each Gombrowicz’s main character – is depicted very clearly and has the signs of emotional influences experienced by the writer in his childhood and further years. These influences have formed Gombrowicz’s philosophical concepts, especially his theory of Form, and deter- mined writer’s position in questions of national and cultural identity. Answers on one of the most important issues that anthropology of literature tries to resolve – for what purpose a writer creates virtual worlds – can be successfully looked for in Witold Gombrowicz’s works. Universalism and ubiquity of self-im- age in all literary works is one of the unique features which makes Gombrowicz a perfect object for anthropology of literature. As several scientists have noted, the whole heritage of Gombrowicz is a one large novel with the same character who faces various circumstances and tries to manage them. Reactions, motivations, positions of this character are usually equal to author’s – Gombrowicz always considered himself as the most important and main character. So Gombrowicz’s works become an extremely fruitful field for literary-anthropological research – the writer writes only about himself, he analyses deeply his psychological features and external influences which motivated his actions and formed his opinions. This research is the beginning of a prospective road – the main questions are claimed, the main vectors are defined and the general overview of problematics is made; the deeper analysis of Gombrowicz’s prose and memoirs with usage of literary-anthropolog- ical instruments and considering of it’s issues demand more expanded study which will shortly appear in Ukrainian Polish studies.

Abstract:
A handwriting examination to determine the writer (writer verification and writer identification) is based upon the hypothesis that each person has characteristic handwriting that is distinct from the handwriting of other individuals. This hypothesis has been accepted empirically through many case studies. However, this hypothesis must be established with scientific and quantitative rigor in order to increase its admissibility as forensic evidence. This paper describes the results of a quantitative investigation into individuality of Japanese handwriting. The authors investigated the individuality (consistency and discriminability) of normal Japanese handwriting using variation entropy and writer verification algorithms. We also compared these results with the analysis results of Japanese signatures that we investigated previously. The authors discuss the differences of individuality between normal handwriting and signatures. Individuality of normal handwriting becomes noticeable as the number of strokes increases, and varies with the complexity of the character class. Although individuality of both normal handwriting and signatures also depends on the writer, this is more noticeable for signatures. It is important that these facts are considered in actual forensic analysis of Japanese handwriting.

Abstract:
Toni Morrison, as many think, is a feminist writer or an African-American writer and so on. When we read her novels, she does not confine herself with feminism, or Africanism, or Americanism, or a writer for pleasure reading. Morrison is a serious writer and deals with matters that are universal and each character that she develops speaks about the nature of love, passion, and they all are life-giving.
Morrison gives many oppositional structures in her novels – characters, plots, incidents, and ideologies – to show the readers that the world (and each one of us) is surrounded with so many “opposites” which are inevitable and it is the duty of the human beings to cull the best out of them.
Her characters and themes are life-affirming / life-denying or life-affording / death-dealing or having positive / negative attitudes. However, they all describe that love for oneself and others are the only measure that would make the world move.
