Crawford<br>Following the devastation UN peacekeeping experienced in the 1990s, the United Nations Panel on Peace Operations wrote a report, known as the Brahimi Report, that contained twenty key recommendations as how to make peacekeeping more effective and efficient. These recommendations addressed certain fundamental flaws in peacekeeping practices and procedures. This paper discusses the purpose behind several key recommendations and examines the political and internal debate surrounding their implementation. Abstract:

<p>Guazuigua is a small village in Bolivia, which has had too small water resources, especially for irrigation. A project started after some studies were made, to create a canal to provide the village with water from a nearby town. To make the canal work it had to cross a dried out river. There have been several attempts to cross these dried out rivers, but with poor results. The purpose of the report is to provide a solution for this problem. During the field studies, the project changed direction, and a decision was made to build a well system instead. This proved to be a better solution for the village’s water problem. The report still remained with solving the canal problem. Calculations show that a pipe placed across the dried out river would break down. The report suggests a support construction which resembles a cable stayed bridge, which is build economical and by materials accessible in the area.</p><br><p>Guazuigua är en liten by i Bolivia som länge haft för liten tillgång på vatten, och främst i bevattningssyfte. Efter att en förstudie gjorts startades ett projekt att med ett kanalsystem förse byn med vatten från närliggande stad. Projektet finansieras av en personlig gåva. För att kanalsystemet skulle kunna genomföras behövdes en akvedukt byggas där kanalen är tvungen att passera en uttorkad flodbädd. Metoder att leda vatten över dessa flodbäddar har gjorts på ett flertal platser i området, där konstruktionerna havererat. Rapportens syfte är att bidra med en lösning på detta problem. Mitt under fältstudien förändrades projektets inriktning, varav man valde att bygga ett brunnsystem istället. Denna förändring var en bättre lösning på byns vattenproblem. Rapporten kvarstod ändå vid att lösa problemet med akveduktkonstruktionen. Beräkningar visar att ett fritt liggande rör över flodbädden skulle plasticera och haverera. Rapporten föreslår en stödkonstruktion som liknar en kabelupphängd bro, som är byggd på material som är billiga, och finns tillgängliga i området.</p>

Thesis (MSc)--Stellenbosch University, 2013.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Current efforts to address Zimbabwe‘s decade long veld fire crisis has partly been hindered by a lack of financial resources and fire data. This study illustrates the potential of using the MODIS burned area product as an alternative cost- and time-effective method for reconstructing historical fire records in Zimbabwe. Two MODIS burned area products were evaluated, namely the MCD45A1 and WAMIS (Meraka Institute‘s MODIS burned area product). Both products yielded similar levels of accuracy despite the difference in algorithms. However, it is assumed that at certain thresholds, either in tree cover or fire intensity, WAMIS ceases to map fires as accurately as the MCD45A1. Ten years of fire data for Charara Safari Area (CSA) was extracted from the MCD45A1, and used as a basis to establish six parameters: fire incidence, extent, seasonality, fire size, frequency and fire return interval (FRI). It was observed that approximately 50% of CSA burned annually, with an average of 132 fires occurring every year. Although there was no overall increase or decrease in the extent of area burned over the 10 year study period, an increasing trend in fire incidence was noted. Through an assessment of effective fire size, it was established that more fires in CSA were gradually becoming smaller in size, while the extent of area burned remained fairly constant. Hence, the increase in fire incidences and lack of a corresponding increase in area burned. This study was also used to identify areas in the fire regime that may be a potential ecological risk to the miombo woodland in CSA. Three points of concern were revealed: firstly, a high prevalence of late season fires was observed in the northern bounds of CSA. Secondly, 64.2% of the total area burned in CSA burned between 6 and 10 times over the 10 year period, and lastly, 85% of the total area burned over the period 2001 and 2010 had a FRI of less than 2 years. The combination of late season fires, high fire frequency and short FRI in CSA is indicative of possible alterations in the state of the miombo woodlands, which may have negative socio-economic implications on CSA and its surrounding communities. This study has demonstrated that the MCD45A1 is a useful source of much needed fire information for Zimbabwe. Therefore, the possibility of integrating methods employed in this study into the current collection of fire data should be given due consideration.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Huidige pogings om Zimbabwe se dekade lank veldbrand krisis aan te spreek is gedeeltelik belemmer deur 'n gebrek aan finansiële hulpbronne en vuurdata. Hierdie studie illustreer die potensiaal van die gebruik van die MODIS verbrande area produk as 'n alternatiewe koste-en tyd-effektiewe metode vir die rekonstruksie van historiese vuurrekords in Zimbabwe. Twee MODIS verbrande area produkte is geëvalueer, naamlik die MCD45A1 en WAMIS (Meraka Instituut se MODIS verbrand area produk). Beide produkte het soortgelyke vlakke van akkuraatheid opgelewer ten spyte van die verskil in die algoritmes. Dit word egter aanvaar dat op sekere drempels, óf in die boom bedekking, of brandintensiteit, WAMIS brande minder akkuraat karteer as die MCD45A1 produk. Tien jaar van vuurdata vir Charara Safari Area (CSA) is uit die MCD45A1 data onttrek, en gebruik as 'n basis om ses parameters vas te stel: vuurvoorkoms, omvang, seisoenaliteit, vuurgrootte, frekwensie en tyd tussen die terugkeer van vuur na ‗n spesifieke plek (nl. FRI). Dit is waargeneem dat ongeveer 50% van die CSA jaarliks gebrand word, met 'n gemiddeld van 132 brande wat elke jaar voorkom. Daar was nie 'n algehele toename of afname in die omvang van die totale verbrande area oor die 10 jaar studietydperk nie. Maar 'n toenemende neiging in die vuurvoorkoms was wel opgemerk. Deur middel van 'n assessering van effektiewe vuurgrootte, is daar vasgestel dat meer kleiner brande in CSA voorkom, terwyl die omvang van die verbrand area redelik konstant gebly het. Dus was daar ‗n toename in die aantal vuurvoorvalle al was daar nie 'n ooreenstemmende toename in die totale verbrande oppervlakte was nie. Hierdie studie is ook gebruik om gebiede in die vuurregime te identifiseer wat 'n potensiële ekologiese risiko vir die miombobosveld in CSA inhou. Drie punte van kommer word geopenbaar: eerstens, 'n hoë voorkoms van laatseisoen brande is waargeneem in die noordelike grense van CSA. Tweedens, 64,2% van die totale verbrande oppervlakte in die CSA brand tussen 6 en 10 keer bine die 10-jaar periode. Laastens, 85% van die totale verbrande oppervlakte oor die tydperk 2001 tot 2010 het 'n FRI van minder as twee jaar. Die kombinasie van laatseisoen brande, hoë vuurfrekwensie en kort FRI in CSA is 'n aanduiding van moontlike veranderinge in die toestand van die miomboveld, wat negatiewe sosio-ekonomiese implikasies op die CSA en die omliggende gemeenskappe kan uitoefen. Hierdie studie het getoon dat die MCD45A1 'n nuttige bron van broodnodige vuur inligting vir Zimbabwe is. Daarom, moet die moontlikheid van die integrasie van die metodes wat gebruik word in hierdie studie in die huidige versameling van vuurdata behoorlike oorweging gegee word.

Estabelecemos como objetivo de nossa pesquisa: o descortinar do olhar para obras de Literatura Infanto-Juvenil, viabilizado por meio do entrelaçamento de aspectos referentes ao imaginário medieval ao fazer literário de Angela Lago. Destacamos em Charadas Macabras, a presença do elemento capeta como veiculador de informação e ou transformação através do uso da palavra. Em Sua Alteza A Divinha, o resgate da oralidade, enfocada sob a luz da teoria bakhtiniana, concedeu a ampliação de recursos como a comicidade, a ludicidade, a brincadeira, encapsulada na obra através do jogo, do desafio oral englobados na esfera da antítese social - o popular contrapondo-se à aristocracia, o forte contra o fraco - o elemento feminino em oposição ao masculino, fatores que concorreram para o dimensionar da análise. Caminhar nas trilhas da cultura oral possibilitou, ainda, a descoberta do riso espontâneo pelos veios da improvisação, pelo evidenciar da praça pública com suas práticas, identificadas em 10 Adivinhas Picantes, além de contribuir para o despertar da literatura paródica, presente em Indo Não Sei Aonde Buscar Não Sei O Quê. A busca de releituras do conto da princesa \"expert\" em adivinhações, compiladas por pesquisadores como Adolpho Coelho e Câmara Cascudo consolidaram, sobremaneira, o propósito inicial de pesquisa - a comprovação, nos contos de Angela Lago, da influência da cultura medieval que chega, através de Portugal e Brasil. Na conclusão, retomamos os elementos pertinentes à cada obra permeados ao âmbito do leitor, e palmilhados, particularmente, ao universo da criança - quintal da casa do faz-de-conta, lugar onde a magia, a alegria e o sonho, são.<br>We have widely discussed, in this written work, about different understanding points of Literature books for children, pointing out the influence of medieval imaginary in Angela Lago\'s masterpiece. In the book Charadas Macabras, we have elicited the presence of the Devil, by the transformation of his spoken words. The oral exercise, in the narrative Sua Alteza A Divinha, was focused under the lights of Bakhtin\'s concepts. The aspects of theses concepts took into consideration the amplifying of the comic and the children\'s entertainment points, which were encapsulated in the tale by the game, (the oral contest). All these points should be understood as a social anthitesis - the popular level put in front of the aristocracy, strong people against weak people - the feminine element against masculine element. All these factors contributed toward the dimensional views of the this book. In researching, \"the study of oral culture\" we discovered it contained espontaneous humor cause by the improvise performances, present in the public square. The public square was a popular place for people to hold their artistic performance. These aspects can be identified in the books Indo Não Sei Aonde Buscar Não Sei O Quê and 10 Adivinhas Picantes. Upon examining the \"tales of a princess\" we found they contain many expertly written riddles. This subject was widely studied by researchers like Adolpho Coelho and Câmara Cascudo, who also empathized the initial purpose of this project - the corroboration of the influence of medieval culture, by Portugal and Brazil, in Angela Lago\'s tales. In conclusion, we have taken the elements that belong to each narrative and inserted them into the sphere of the reader, and particulary, the child reader. The mind of child is known to be most criative and imaginative. It\'s a world where invention, dreams, magic, hapiness and sadness exists.

Abstract:

Dissertação apresentada na Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Conservação e Restauro, especialização em Vitral<br>Em 1999, no decurso da desmontagem de andaimes na Charola do Convento de Cristo em Tomar foram encontrados vários fragmentos de vitral. Em 2009, durante novas intervenções de conservação e restauro na Charola, descobriram-se novos e mais numerosos fragmentos, perfazendo um total de 423. Datando provavelmente de 1510-1518, estes fragmentos terão sido produzidos aquando da campanha de intervenções feita a mando de D. Manuel I no Convento. Neste trabalho os fragmentos foram estudados e comparados com outros objectos produzidos durante a mesma campanha de forma a serem inseridos num contexto artístico, histórico e iconográfico. Paralelamente a estes estudos, os fragmentos foram preparados para exposição, tendo sido feito o projecto da vitrina onde serão expostos. Os fragmentos foram analisados através da técnica de μ-XRF para determinar a composição do vidro, tendo-se chegado à conclusão de que estes possuem uma composição idêntica ao vidro dos vitrais da Capela-mor da igreja do Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória, Batalha. Paralelamente foi ainda desenvolvida investigação sobre a técnica de pintura de amarelo de prata, utilizada em grande parte dos fragmentos em estudo. Para esta investigação foram criadas amostras modelo, tendo como variáveis diferentes composições de vidro e tintas (proporções de compostos utilizados) e ainda temperaturas diferentes. Estas amostras foram analisadas com as técnicas de μ-PIXE e espectroscopia UV-Vis, tendo os resultados sido comparados com o da caracterização feita nos fragmentos de vitral da Charola do Convento de Cristo em Tomar.

Det gäller därmed för företaget att sträva efter att kundernas behov tillfredsställs samtidigt som företaget måste vara lönsamt.</p><p>Syfte: Syftet med uppsatsen är att beskriva och förklara hur företag hanterar kunders differentierade förpackningskrav, och vilka effekter detta får för lönsamheten. För att konkretisera problemsituationen kommer vi att beskriva och förklara olika alternativ och analysera vilka effekter det får för ett företag.</p><p>Metod: Vi har utfört aktionsforskning på Lindvalls Chark AB, ett företag som vi tidigare samarbetat med. För att samla in information har vi genomfört semistrukturerade intervjuer med personal på Lindvalls Chark AB, Helmer Nilsson AB, Svenska Retursystem AB, ICA Sverige AB och Axfood AB. Vi har även tagit del av information på företagens hemsidor.</p><p>Resultat, slutsatser: Kartonger är det mest ekonomiskt fördelaktiga för Lindvalls Chark AB. Men eftersom kundperspektivet är minst lika viktigt måste Lindvalls Chark AB ta hänsyn till kundernas krav. Den mix av kartonger som Lindvalls Chark AB idag har är den som i nuläget är mest fördelaktig för företaget.</p><p>Förslag till fortsatt Fortsatt forskning kring kunders olika krav kan utföras på forskning: Lindvalls Chark AB om till exempel krav på produkters utformning.</p>

Abstract:

This thesis presents an engineering project measuring the effective wavelength of the CHARA Classic beam combiner on the CHARA Array. Knowing the actual effective wavelength of light observed is very important because that value is necessary for determining astrophysical parameters of stars. Currently, the value used for CHARA Classic data comes from a model of the system and is based on numbers published by the manufacturer of the filter; it is not derived from measurements done on the system directly. We use two data collection methods to observe standard stars of different spectral types and calculate the wavelength of light recorded by the instrument for each star. We find the best estimate of the effective wavelength for the CHARA Classic K′-band configuration to be 2.138±0.003μm, a 0.56% decrease from the previously adopted value of 2.150μm. Our result establishes the first estimate of the uncertainty in the effective wavelength.

Abstract:

Au cours de ces dernières décennies, le concept de la compétitivité s'est établi comme un mot-clé important dans la vie sociale, à l’échelle micro-économique et surtout macro-économique. Au regard d’une mondialisation grandissante et de l'expansion des marchés mondiaux, la compétitivité peut quelque fois se limiter à l’aspect purement économique et commercial. Alors que l’examen des différents défis économiques, sociaux et environnementaux qui préoccupent de nos jours l’humanité conduit à reconsidérer les modèles d’évaluation de la croissance économique adoptée, à reconnaitre leurs limites et à apporter un jugement critique sur l’évaluation de la compétitivité. Ce travail se propose donc d’explorer quelques possibilités de l’intégration contemporaine de principes « éthiques » dans le concept de la compétitivité macroéconomique. Prenant en compte la dynamique du concept de la compétitivité, la thèse analyse l’histoire et l’évolution de cette notion. L’analyse engage alors une approche théorique, ensuite une étude comparée des différents indices d’évaluation de la compétitivité. L’objectif est d’examiner comment des principes éthiques peuvent être intégrés pour la mesure et l’évaluation de la compétitivité des pays, c’est-à-dire comment elle pourrait être évaluée au-delà du PIB et des résultats commerciaux et comment elle rejoint également la préoccupation pour les inégalités, la pauvreté, le changement climatique dans des domaines aussi différents que la santé, l’éducation, l’eau et l’agriculture …Les objectifs de la Charia (Maqasid Charia) constituent une assise convenable pour construire un nouvel indice de compétitivité éthique, permettant ainsi la contribution de différents pays, même non musulmans, à chacun des objectifs de la Charia<br>Throughout the past decades, competitiveness was established as an important concept in social life, at micro and especially macro levels. With globalization and the expansion of global markets, competitiveness can sometimes be limited to purely economic and commercial dimensions. While examining various current economic, social and environmental challenges that affect today’s economy and humanity, the thesis reconsiders the economic growth assessment models adopted, to recognize their limits and put forward critical judgment on the assessment of competitiveness. This study develops, therefore, an exploration of some possibilities of contemporary integration of "ethical" principles into the concept of macroeconomic competitiveness.Taking into account the dynamics of the concept of competitiveness, the thesis analyzes the history and evolution of this concept. The analysis puts forward a theoretical approach, followed by a comparative study of different indices for assessing competitiveness. The aim is to examine how ethical principles are integrated to measure countries' competitiveness. That is, how competitiveness could be evaluated beyond the GDP and trade outcomes and that it also incorporates the measures of inequality, poverty, climate change, health, education, water, agriculture etc. The objectives of Shariah (Maqasid al Shariah) present a suitable foundation to build a new ethical competitiveness index that measures countries’ contribution to the objectives of the Shariah

Abstract:

Rural farmers in Zimbabwe have been grappling with various changes and challenges occurring in the country since the early 1990s. Amongst these, climate variability has emerged as one significant aspect. It has introduced new challenges for these farmers who are already facing various difficulties in maintaining their insecure livelihoods. Yet, current adaptation theories and inquiries have failed to sufficiently account for and analyse the capacity of these farmers to adequately respond to changing climatic conditions. In this respect, a number of studies have been heavily embedded in deterministic concepts that regard rural farmers as passive victims who play only a minor part in decisions and actions that affect their own livelihoods and well-being. Similarly, although some studies have acknowledged farmers’ capacity to adapt and build elements of resilience, they have not adequately shown how farmers interpret changes in climate and the structures, processes and conditions underpinning adaptation. Following that, my study uses a case study of a rural community in a semi-arid region of Mutoko district in eastern Zimbabwe and Margaret Archer’s sociological theory to understand and analyse how farmers problematise climate variability and respond to it. The study utilises a qualitative approach to divulge the subtleties on how rural people interpret processes of change and adapt to such changes. The thesis found that farmers are encountering increasingly unpredictable and unreliable rainfall patterns as well as shifting temperature conditions which are inducing labyrinthian livelihoods conundrums. However, these climatic shifts are not being experienced in a discrete manner hence farmers are also discontented with the obtaining socio-economic circumstances in the country. Simultaneously, whilst farmers in large part conceived changes in rainfall and temperature to be caused by natural shifts in climate, they also ascribed them to cultural and religious facets. Importantly, the thesis reveals considerable resourcefulness by farmers in the face of nascent changes in climate variability. Farmers have therefore constructed versatile coping and adaptive strategies. What is crucial to mention here is that climatic and non-climatic challenges are negotiated concurrently. Therein, farmers are adapting to climate variability and at the same time navigating difficult socio-economic landscapes. All the same, the process of adaptation is ostensibly not straightforward but complex. As it evolves, farmers find themselves facing numerous constraining structures and processes. Nonetheless, farmers in this study are able to circumvent the constraints presented to them and at the same time activate the corresponding enabling structures, processes and conditions.

Největší prostor je zde věnován jednotlivým aktivitám firmy a hodnocení současné CSR strategie a také konkrétním návrhům na zlepšení. Závěrem celé práce je pak návrh na vytvoření nové strategie v oblasti CSR, která kombinuje stávající prvky s prvky novými a u stávajících projektů se snaží navrhnout jistá zlepšení a eliminovat tak problémy, se kterými se firma v současnosti stále potýká.

La licéité de l'assurance conventionnelle au regard du droit musulman est controversée. Certains prohibent cette opération où usure et aléa se conjuguent et d'autres la justifient par la théorie de la nécessité et par l'ijtihad. Suite à ces polémiques, une assurance fondée sur les préceptes de l'Islam (takaful) a été envisagée. Les techniques du takaful sont tirées des procédés commerciaux -mudaraba et musharaka - ayant reçu l'assentiment du Prophète. Parce qu'elles fournissent des alternatives aux moyens de financement basés sur l'intérêt, la mudaraba et la musharaka permettent de surmonter les objections faites à l'assurance. Mais, le takaful ne se substitue pas à l'assurance conventionnelle qui, dans la plupart des pays arabes du Moyen Orient, demeure régie par le droit positif. Abstract:

Until the last decade or so, our entire knowledge of planets around Sun-like stars consisted of those in our own Solar System. This is no longer the case. Over 200 planets have been discovered through radial velocity surveys and photometric studies, both of which depend on observing the planet's effects on its host star. Much of our knowledge of the planets orbiting these stars is uncertain, based on assumptions about the stars' masses and the planets' orbital inclinations. This dissertation is comprised of two main sections. The first involves measuring the angular diameters for a sample of exoplanet host stars using Georgia State University's CHARA Array in order to learn more about the nature of these stars. These direct angular measurements are not dependent on the exoplanet systems' inclinations or the masses of the stars. Improved angular diameters lead to linear diameters when combined with HIPPARCOS parallax measurements, which in turn tell us of the stars' ages and masses. Of the 82 exoplanet systems observable with the CHARA Array, 31 host stars were observed and stellar angular diameters were measured for 26 systems. In the special case of an exoplanet system with a transiting planet, this direct measurement of the star's angular diameter leads to a direct measurement of the planet's diameter, when the planet-to-star-radii ratio is known from photometric studies. This was done for HD 189733. The star's angular diameter is 0.377 +/- 0.024 mas, which produces a stellar linear radius of 0.779 +/- 0.052 R_Sun and a planetary diameter of 1.19 +/- 0.08 R_Jupiter. The second part of this project involved the inspection of the exoplanet systems for stellar companions masquerading as planets. From radial velocity studies alone, it is impossible to distinguish between a planet in a high-inclination orbit and a low-mass stellar companion in a low-inclination orbit. Using the CHARA Array, it was possible to rule out certain secondary spectral types for each exoplanet system observed by studying the errors in the diameter fit and searching for separated fringe packets. While no definitive stellar companions were found, two expolanet systems, upsilon Andromedae and rho Coronae Borealis, exhibited behavior that were not consistent with the host star being a simple limb-darkened disk.

In the recent years, social issues around renewable energy implementation have been gaining prominence both in developed and developing countries. Though researchers across different disciplines in developed countries have started dealing with this issue, there is a lack of theoretical or empirical research in developing countries. This research from a pluralistic perspective and using the case study of ‘Charanaka Solar Park’ qualitatively analyses the relationship between ‘justice’ and solar energy implementation in India. The justice framework used in this thesis corresponds to the theoretical knowledge on a) procedural justice and b) distributional justice principles based in social, environmental, and energy justice literatures. The application of multiple theories of justice proved to be significant and useful instrument for analysing controversies over implementation of solar (renewable) energy policies. The results of this research have provided new insights into how social justice issues, such as recognition of marginalised communities, equal and democratic participation, and just distribution of project outcomes, are strongly interconnected to implementation of ‘environmentally good’ projects. Following the findings of this research, recommendations for policymakers and practitioners are proposed and pathways for future research are outlined.

Partindo da analogia desenvolvida por Harnoncourt (1998) entre a maneira como o som é iniciado e a fala, bem como das mudanças históricas da atitude de compositores em relação à escrita minuciosa da partitura, a pesquisa aponta o desenvolvimento da técnica instrumental como um dos responsáveis pelo surgimento de conjuntos de sopro, expondo o modelo padrão de quinteto de metais, suas variações, bem como a colaboração na elaboração e interpretação da obra constante deste trabalho. Como fonte de informações sobre o autor, ainda desconhecido no meio acadêmico, é apresentada uma sucinta biografia. Centrée principalement sur l'apprentissage symbolique par détection de corrélations empiriques, cette thèse aborde deux questions: la généralisation de descriptions et la construction de systèmes de règles. La généralisation et la discrimination sont les deux opérations majeures qui pilotent la détection des régularités. Nous montons ici comment un mécanisme général, l'appariement structurel, permet de simuler ces deux opérations tout en intégrant la sémantique de l'univers d'apprentissage. Une fois l'appariement structurel obtenu, les descriptions se ramènent à une conjonction de triplets (<Attribut> <Sélecteur> <Valeur>). Dans ce cadre on est capable d'engendrer des systèmes de règles de production traduisant les corrélations entre descripteurs. De plus, ces systèmes de règles vérifient des propriétés d'ensemble qui les rendent opérationnels sur des moteurs d'inférences classiques. A cette fin on représente l'ensemble d'apprentissage et l'espace des descriptions sur un treillis booléen, le cube de Hilbert. L'apprentissage des règles se ramène alors à une exploration intelligente de l'espace de description. Les-propriétés des règles et du système de règles que l'on désire construire étant traduites sous forme de contraintes de la procédure d'exploration.

Les propriétés d'un atome de gaz noble (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe) en interaction avec une matrice de silicium ou de carbure de silicium cubique ont été déterminées à l'aide de simulations numériques ab initio et d'une technique de recherche des points cols, afin de mieux comprendre les premiers stades de la formation de défauts étendus de type bulle dans ces matériaux. Nous avons ainsi obtenu les configurations les plus stables et leurs énergies de formation, de type interstitiel dans un cristal parfait et de type complexe en présence de monolacunes et de bilacunes. Dans un second temps, nos simulations ont permis la détermination des mécanismes de migration des interstitiels de gaz nobles et des complexes, ainsi que les énergies d'activation associées, dans le cas du silicium. En particulier, nous proposons un nouveau mécanisme d'échange pour la migration d'un complexe gaz noble-bilacune. Dans tous les cas, la plupart des résultats s'explique par un effet stérique découlant du caractère inerte des gaz nobles, avec quelques exceptions concernant l'hélium. Enfin, les mécanismes permettant à un atome d'hélium ou de néon de sortir ou d'entrer dans une bulle déjà formée dans le silicium, ont été déterminés en prenant en compte l'influence de la pression et de la température au sein de la bulle. Ces travaux ont permis de montrer la perméabilité de la surface de Si, ainsi que d'estimer une pression interne comprise entre 3 et 6 GPa pour une bulle remplie d'hélium, en accord avec les expériences<br>The properties of a noble gas atom (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe) interacting with a silicon or a cubic silicon carbide matrix have been determined using first-principles numerical simulations and a saddle points searching technique, in order to better understand the first steps of the formation of extended defects such as bubbles in these materials. Hence, we have obtained the most stable configurations, interstitials in a perfect crystal and complexes in presence of mono and divacancies, as well as their formation energies. In a second step, our simulations have allowed us to determine the migration mechanisms of noble gas interstitials and of complexes, and the associated activation energies, in the case of silicon. In particular, we propose a new exchange mechanism for the migration of a noble gasdivacancy complex. In all cases, most of our results can be explained by a sterical effect ensueing from the inert character of noble gas, with few exceptions for He. Finally, the mechanisms allowing for a He and Ne atom to enter or escape an already formed bubble in silicon, have been computed taking into account the influence of pressure and temperature into the bubble. These works revealed the permeability of the silicon surface, and indicate that the internal pressure for a He-filled bubble ranges from 3 to 6 GPa, in agreement with experiments
