Abstract:
Since the last IAU Colloquium devoted to Ap stars, die continuous development of high signal to noise observations and of computerized analysis tools have greatly increased the effectiveness of abundance anomalies as a probe of hydrodynamical processes in stars. Until the 1980s, they seemed limited to ApBp and AmFm stars where the effects are largest. More recently the abundances of Li and He have been suggested to play important diagnostic roles for hydrodynamics in both the Sun (Proffitt and Michaud 1991b, Pinsonneault et al. 1989) and Halo stars (Proffitt and Michaud 1991a, Pinsonneault et al. 1992, Vauclair 1988, Charbonnel et al. 1992, Deliyannis and Demarque 1991). The observation of a Li abundance gap in F stars of clusters has raised the question of the link between these objects and the AmFm stars (Michaud 1986, Charbonneau and Michaud 1988, 1991) or alternately with solar type stars. The observed Li abundance on die subgiant branch sheds some light on this problem (Charbonneau et al. 1989; Charbonnel and Vauclair 1992). In solar type stars, the observed Li abundance constrains the superficial turbulence that may inhibit surface He gravitational settling (Proffitt and Michaud 1991b) whose effects can be detected using solar seismology (Guzik and Cox 1992, Dziembowski et al. 1992).

We present the impact of meridional circulation and shear turbulence on the evolution of the lithium abundance at the surface of evolved stars originating from the hot side of the Li Dip. We show that our fully consistent treatment of the same hydrodynamical processes which can account for C and N anomalies in B type stars (Talon et al. 1997) and for the shape of the hot side of the Li dip in open clusters (Talon & Charbonnel 1998) also explains Li observations in stars with Teff higher than 7000K on the main sequence as well as in their evolved counterparts (see also Charbonnel & Talon 1999).

Abstract:

We compare our theorical predictions with recent observations and discuss how the corresponding yields for 3He are compatible with the observed behaviour of this light element in our Galaxy.

In Part III, we first discuss the LiBeB observations in subgiant stars and the constraints they bring on the transport processes occuring on the main sequence. Evidence is then reviewed that suggests that in situ mixing occurs in evolved low mass Population I and Population II stars. Theoretical mechanisms that can create such mixing are discussed, as well as their implications for the evolution of the LiBeB and 3He.

There are a variety of indicators that place interesting bounds on the degree of stellar depletion, and in contrast to the other two sections the data for Population II stars provides weaker evidence for stellar lithium depletion. We review both the theoretical studies and the observational data, and critically evaluate the degree of stellar depletion consistent with the data.

Abstract:
AbstractThe first stellar generation in galactic globular clusters contained massive low-metallicity stars (Charbonnel et al. 2014). We modelled the evolution of this massive stellar population and found that such stars with masses 100-600 M⊙ evolve into cool RSGs (Szécsi et al. 2015). These RSGs spend not only the core-He-burning phase but even the last few 105 years of the core-H-burning phase on the SG branch. Due to the presence of hot massive stars in the cluster at the same time, we show that the RSG wind is trapped into photoionization confined shells (Mackey et al. 2014). We simulated the shell formation around such RSGs and find them to become gravitationally unstable (Szécsi et al. 2016). We propose a scenario in which these shells are responsible for the formation of the second generation low-mass stars in globular clusters with anomalous surface abundances.

Abstract:
In this work we present the predictions of a modified version of the ‘two-infall model’ (Chiappini et al. 1997 - CMG) for the evolution of 3He, 4He and D in the solar vicinity, as well as their distributions along the Galactic disk. In particular, we show that when allowing for extra-mixing process in low mass stars (M < 2.5 M⊙), as predicted by Charbonnel and do Nascimento (1998), a long standing problem in chemical evolution is solved, namely: the overproduction of 3He by the chemical evolution models as compared to the observed values in the sun and in the interstellar medium. Moreover, we show that chemical evolution models can constrain the primordial value of the deuterium abundance and that a value of (D/H)p < 3 × 10—5 is suggested by the present model. Finally, adopting the primordial 4He abundance suggested by Viegas et al. (1999), we obtain a value for ΔY/ΔZ ≃ 2 and a better agreement with the solar 4He abundance.

Abstract:
AbstractWe present our first results on a new sample containing all single G, K and M giants down to V = 4 mag in the Solar vicinity, suitable for spectropolarimetric (Stokes V) observations with Narval at TBL, France. For detection and measurement of the magnetic field (MF), the Least Squares Deconvolution (LSD) method was applied (Donati et al. 1997) that in the present case enables detection of large-scale MFs even weaker than the solar one (the typical precision of our longitudinal MF measurements is 0.1-0.2 G). The evolutionary status of the stars is determined on the basis of the evolutionary models with rotation (Lagarde et al. 2012; Charbonnel et al., in prep.) and fundamental parameters given by Massarotti et al. (1998). The stars appear to be in the mass range 1-4 M⊙, situated at different evolutionary stages after the Main Sequence (MS), up to the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB).The sample contains 45 stars. Up to now, 29 stars are observed (that is about 64% of the sample), each observed at least twice. For 2 stars in the Hertzsprung gap, one is definitely Zeeman detected. Only 5 G and K giants, situated mainly at the base of the Red Giant Branch (RGB) and in the He-burning phase are detected. Surprisingly, a lot of stars ascending towards the RGB tip and in early AGB phase are detected (8 of 13 observed stars). For all Zeeman detected stars v sin i is redetermined and appears in the interval 2-3 km/s, but few giants with MF possess larger v sin i.

Abstract:
Commission 35 (C35), “Stellar Constitution”, consists of members of the International Astronomical Union whose research spans many aspects of theoretical and observational stellar physics and it is mainly focused on the comprehension of the properties of stars, stellar populations and galaxies. The number of members of C35 increased progressively over the last ten years and currently C35 comprises about 400 members. C35 was part of Division IV (Stars) until 2014 and then became part of Division G (Stars and Stellar Physics), after the main IAU reorganisation in 2015. Four Working Groups have been created over the years under Division IV, initially, and Division G later: WG on Active B Stars, WG on Massive Stars, WG on Abundances in Red Giant and WG on Chemically Peculiar and Related Stars. In the last decade the Commission had 4 presidents, Wojciech Dziembowski (2003-2006), Francesca D'Antona (2006-2009), Corinne Charbonnel (2009-2012) and Marco Limongi (2012-2015), who were assisted by an Organizing Committee (OC), usually composed of about 10 members, all of them elected by the C35 members and holding their positions for three years. The C35 webpage (http://iau-c35.stsci.edu) has been designed and continuously maintained by Claus Leitherer from the Space Telescope Institute, who deserves our special thanks. In addition to the various general information on the Commission structure and activities, it contains links to various resources, of interest for the members, such as stellar models, evolutionary tracks and isochrones, synthetic stellar populations, stellar yields and input physics (equation of state, nuclear cross sections, opacity tables), provided by various groups. The main activity of the C35 OC is that of evaluating, ranking and eventually supporting the proposals for IAU sponsored meetings. In the last decade the Commission has supported several meetings focused on topics more or less relevant to C35. Since the primary aim of this document is to present the main activity of C35 over the last ten years, in the following we present some scientific highlights that emerged from the most relevant IAU Symposia and meetings supported and organized by C35 in the last decade.

Abstract:
This article approaches trajectory aspects of Canadian priest Paul-Eugène Charbonneau, who worked in Brazil, from different fields, intervening in the configuration of Brazilian society through education and culture. Based on the written production of this intellectual, we seek to point out how religion, politics and education were present in the intellectual trajectory of Father Charbonneau. Concepts like intellectual and cultural elites, by Sirinelli (1998, 2003), and Bourdieu's trajectory, social capital, cultural capital and field (2000, 2003, 2004, 2007) were the theoretical basis of this text. To think about the trajectory of intellectual Charbonneau, permeated by the fields of religion, education and politics, is to realize that his written production was not only associated with the dissemination of educational knowledge with Catholic principles, but brought discussions about the political context of the time, sometimes bringing Christian elements, sometimes incorporating the actor of the politician and Brazilian citizen hia had become.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Recently the LOWL Group has made available 2-year averages of frequency splitting data obtained mainly for low values of the degree ℓ. Charbonneau et al. (1997) find a nearly flat rotational curve in the deep radiative core from these data using a Genetic Forward Modeling method. Subsequently, they test the assumption of latitude independence for r < 0.5 by performing a 1.5-D inversion, and find a rotation rate which is 25% greater at the pole than at the equator for 0.1 < r < 0.2.
