When forces are applied to matter, the distribution of mass changes. Similarly, when an electric field is applied to matter with charge, the distribution of charge changes. The change in the distribution of charge (when a local electric field is applied) might in general be called the induced charge. When the change in charge is simply related to the applied local electric field, the polarization field P is widely used to describe the induced charge. This approach does not allow electrical measurements (in themselves) to determine the structure of the polarization fields. Many polarization fie

We observe that, although MMTS claim to be using the definition of explanation proposed by Halpern 2016, they do not quite do so. Roughly speaking, Halpern’s definition has a necessity clause and a sufficiency clause. MMTS replace the necessity clause by a requirement that, as we show, implies it. Halpern’s definition also allows agents to restrict the set of options considered. While these difference may seem minor, as we show, they can have a nontrivial impact on explanations.

Abstract Corrosion by definition is the gradual destruction of a material, usually metals, by chemical reaction with its environment. During this reaction, metal is dissolved into an electrolyte, and oxygen from the atmosphere is reduced in the solution. Also, contaminants such as H2S, SO2, Cl2 can often accelerate this reaction. In recent years, the miniaturization of electronic components and the elimination of lead-based solder via restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) have made the corrosion of electronics a matter of increasing concern. Abstract:
What is regenerative agriculture? Although this concept is frequently used in discussions about food systems transformation, and is starting to attract the attention of corporates and the mainstream, it lacks a formal definition, and what counts as "regenerative" can vary based on the individual asked, or the context. In this explainer, we explore ways of thinking about regenerative agriculture in relation to its various definitions, the stakeholders using the term, its knowledge practices and knowledge base, and how it fits in with wider goals for food system change.
