The article focuses on verification of function of two proposed conceptions of special wheels that allow driving of a chassis on staircases without oscillation of the chassis centre of mass in relation to a line parallel to the flight of steps. Basic principles of the special wheels conceptions are briefly described in the beginning. Verification of function was done by simulation in the CAD system SolidWorks and also were performed tests on reduced-scale prototypes of chasses with the special wheels. A circuit board response was used to characterize five chassis that were manufactured by five different suppliers to two form factors: slim and mid-tower designs. The board responses were compared to that in a reference test chassis. All the chassis were shocked to the same input. The board response was characterized by strain gauges mounted on the PCB around critical BGA components. The board strains measurements were able to detect the manufacturing variability of the chassis fabricated and was used to identify the second level interconnection (SLI) risk for BGA placement at the measured loc

Mobile source emissions inventory data from heavy-duty on-road vehicles are traditionally obtained using three methods: engine dynamometer, chassis dynamometer, or in-use vehicle driving. Engine dynamometer testing provides for the greatest control and highest accuracy but requires the most time and can be cost prohibitive when obtaining emissions from many in-use engines. In-use emissions collection is a relatively inexpensive and rapid method of obtaining real-world data, but this method is relatively new and is not regulated by any Federal or international regulations as of yet and accuracy

Abstract This paper provides an overview of VehSim, a PC Windows-based vehicle simulation software for vehicle dynamics, controls and integration. The function and features of VehSim are discussed in general. With its high fidelity, flexibility, portability and user-friendly interfaces, VehSim provides an integrated development environment for engineers to conduct vehicle, especially chassis/driveline modeling, simulation and control algorithm design and to build quick software prototypes to accelerate chassis/driveline controls and integration development. Light electric vehicles (LEV) have been developed for the interests of green, low pollution and low noise. The development of in-wheel motors improve electric vehicles’ power efficiency and simplify the transmission system design. However, to coordinate the wheel torques and their angular velocities becomes an issue, which affects the vehicle’s dynamics and handling stability. In this paper, an electric differential system (EDS) for a rhombus-chassis EV is focused on. The relation of driving wheels’ speeds was derived particularly for rhombus configuration, and it has been carried out on a con

It consists of the middle part, balancing system, two driving axles and steering system. These assemblies form an H-type chassis structure where both sides of the driving axle and the middle part are connected for power transmission, ground clearance varying and wheel track adjustable function, which ensures full-time four-wheel drive in a complex road environment and confirms that the middle part is always in the

As we enter the next era of autonomous driving, robo-vehicles (which serve as low-cost and fully compliant drivers) are replacing conventional chauffeured services in the mobility market. During just the last few years, companies like Waymo Inc. and Cruise Inc. have already offered fully driverless robo-taxi services to the general public in cities like Phoenix and San Francisco. The rapid evolution of autonomous vehicles is anticipated to reshape the shared mobility market very soon. This project aims to address the following open questions. At the operational level, how should modular units

Operations in the Artic and other cold regions require technologies that can perform reliably under extreme cold conditions. Permafrost and frozen soils harbor a wide range of microorganisms that have adapted to extremely low temperatures and have unique metabolic capabilities relevant to military operations and that could be exploited to develop biotechnologies optimized for cold environments. Cold-tolerant bacteria (psychrophiles and psychrotrophs) are critical to the development of synthetic biology technologies meant to work in cold environments like the Arctic.
