Abstract:
The cultivation and breeding of new pear tree varieties have great potential, especially with the changing climate. The introduction of genetic resources and varieties from regions with a high genetic diversity can have a positive effect on the cultivation of pear trees in our region. In this experiment, a total of 23 Asian pear varieties originating from Japan and China were assessed. Based on the values obtained, the varieties were sorted, and suitable varieties for the conditions of the Czech Republic were selected. The early-maturing varieties that proved to be promising were ‘Shinseiki’ and ‘Zao Su Li’ due to their refreshing juiciness, plasticity and ease of cultivation. generally low demand. The ‘Shinseiki’ bears medium- to small-sized fruits (103 g on average). The size of the fruits of the evaluated cultivar ‘Zao Su Li’ can reach very large sizes (255 g on average). The medium-maturity varieties suitable for the conditions of the Czech Republic were ‘Hosui’ and ‘Dangshansu Li’ (ripening on the September 11–19 on average) and another interesting variety, ‘Kirgizkaja zimnaja’. Other suitable medium-maturity varieties are ‘Nijisseiki’, ‘Sha Li’ and ‘Pung Su’. Of the assessed late-maturing varieties, the promising ones were ‘Ya Li’ and ‘Mut Chen’, especially due to their relatively high storability under cold storage.

Abstract:
SUMMARY Presently ongoing geodynamic processes within the intracontinental lithospheric mantle give rise to different natural phenomena in the NW Bohemia/Vogtland region (Czech Republic, Germany), amongst others: earthquake swarms, mineral springs and degassing zones of mantle-derived fluids as well as highly concentrated CO2 (mofettes). Their interaction mechanisms and relations are not yet fully understood, but fluid pathways within the crust are assumed, that allow efficient fluid transport between the main hypocentral swarm quake region and the degassing areas at the surface. Here, we focus on the location of the presumed fluid channels as well as on the investigation of their near-surface spatio-temporal variability, targeting a depth of a few hundreds of metmetres. We applied a 3-D matched field processing (MFP) approach in the frequency band of 10–20 Hz considering the fluid flow as seismic noise source. Within three campaigns in 2015/2016, we recorded continuous seismic noise data on the Hartoušov Mofette Field within the Cheb Basin (NW Bohemia, CZ), which is a key site to study fluid flow as it is characterized by strong and continuous surface degassing of CO2. We used temporary arrays varying in extent (70-600 m aperture) and in the amount of stations (25–95 units). Assuming a homogeneous velocity model and applying conventional MFP phase-matching over a 3-D grid search, we located two channel-like structures beneath the test site, which could be traced down to a common source area down to 2000 m depth. We thereby evaluated the influence of amplitude normalization of the measured noise signal on the MFP location considering water-filled or dry mofette channels. Additionally, a spatio-temporal analysis using time windows with a length of 10 min during 5 hr of noise record shows variability of fluid flow activity in space and time and hence, its migration beneath the test site on a short timescale.

Abstract:
Abstract. The Cheb Basin, a region of ongoing swarm earthquake activity in the western Czech Republic, is characterized by intense carbon dioxide degassing along two known fault zones – the N–S-striking Počatky–Plesná fault zone (PPZ) and the NW–SE-striking Mariánské Lázně fault zone (MLF). The fluid pathways for the ascending CO2 of mantle origin are one of the subjects of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) project “Drilling the Eger Rift” in which several geophysical surveys are currently being carried out in this area to image the topmost hundreds of meters to assess the structural situation, as existing boreholes are not sufficiently deep to characterize it. As electrical resistivity is a sensitive parameter to the presence of conductive rock fractions as liquid fluids, clay minerals, and also metallic components, a large-scale dipole–dipole experiment using a special type of electric resistivity tomography (ERT) was carried out in June 2017 in order to image fluid-relevant structures. We used permanently placed data loggers for voltage measurements in conjunction with moving high-power current sources to generate sufficiently strong signals that could be detected all along the 6.5 km long profile with 100 and 150 m dipole spacings. After extensive processing of time series for voltage and current using a selective stacking approach, the pseudo-section is inverted, which results in a resistivity model that allows for reliable interpretations depths of up than 1000 m. The subsurface resistivity image reveals the deposition and transition of the overlying Neogene Vildštejn and Cypris formations, but it also shows a very conductive basement of phyllites and granites that can be attributed to high salinity or rock alteration by these fluids in the tectonically stressed basement. Distinct, narrow pathways for CO2 ascent are not observed with this kind of setup, which hints at wide degassing structures over several kilometers within the crust instead. We also observed gravity and GPS data along this profile in order to constrain ERT results. A gravity anomaly of ca. −9 mGal marks the deepest part of the Cheb Basin where the ERT profile indicates a large accumulation of conductive rocks, indicating a very deep weathering or alteration of the phyllitic basement due to the ascent of magmatic fluids such as CO2. We propose a conceptual model in which certain lithologic layers act as caps for the ascending fluids based on stratigraphic records and our results from this experiment, providing a basis for future drillings in the area aimed at studying and monitoring fluids.

Abstract:
The Software Defined Networking (SDN) gained recognition due to its improvements at the packet switching and routing layers. The benefits of programmable, remotely controllable networking devices can be applied to the optical layer of contemporary networks as well. This work introduces CESNET's Czech Light~® family of devices and their role in enabling the SDN approach within the CESNET's production network. As a case study, an upgrade of the Cheb node in CESNET's network from a hard-spliced add-drop multiplexers to SDN-capable Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers (ROADM) is presented. The upgrade improved operational capabilities of the network, including remote channel equalization, and the possibility to deploy new channels or lambdas without physical intervention. The deployment of ROADM also improved the optical properties of the network.

Abstract:
Internal migration is one of the possible ways to reduce unemployment within the country. The aim of this paper is to compare the volume of internal migration between NUTS II regions in the Czech Republic and Austria and to try to identify factors that act to the migration flows. The results show that Austria is characterized by increased internal migration, international migration, as well as commuting to work in another region. Since the Czech Republic all these indicators lagging behind, it is necessary to determine whether the internal migration of both states is influenced by the same factors. Specifically, the paper examined the relationship of interregional migration and the average disposable income, unemployment rate, number of vacancies, the size and distance of regions, using the method of multiple linear regression analysis. While in the Czech Republic the internal migration is motivated by economic factors, in Austria, the relationship of migration and selected variables was not confirmed. The paper finds that residents of Austria are more active in terms of migration, but this move has obviously other than economic incentives.

Full text
Abstract:
The pukl, commonly called dudy, is a bellow-blown bagpipe whose origin and development can be traced to older forms known as grosser Bock and polnischer Bock. The instrument is an important feature in the identity of Chodsko, an ethonographic region of West Bohemia. This thesis shows the significance of the pukl in Chodish tradition through its organology, pedagogy, performance practice, and history. Through the novel Psohlavci, Alois Jirásek offered a footing for reinforcement of Chodish traditions. The thesis argues that a succession of makers, performers, teachers, institutions, and events have woven a web of tradition in which the pukl holds a significant position. Supporting evidence is shown from artworks that are visible to the public as well as decoration on the instrument. Selected from the Chodish canon, the beloved song, ‘Zelený hájové’, illustrates the use of the dialect and ornamentation as being indicative of the region. Two DVDs, The Call of Dudy and Zelený Hájové …, and a glossary of Chodish terms together with a catalogue of field recordings are included.
Accompanied by 2 DVDs which are available through Interloan.

Full text
Abstract:
A growing global energy demand resulting from an ever increasing world population and scale of economic activity poses one of the world's main challenges for the future. The consequences of this rise in population and economic development include, among others, 'excessive' fossil fuel energy consumption and increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The use of renewable energy sources (RES) can help to mitigate this pressure on energy demand. In connection with this, the European Union's climate policy strategy, in tandem with a reduction in greenhouse gases (GHGs), presses for the development of renewable energy. The generation of renewable energy, in particular biomass, contributes to economic development through the creation of employment opportunities. In particular, rural regions with limited development opportunities can benefit from renewable energy production and dissemination. European rural border regions are disadvantaged primarily because of their location, poor infrastructure and smaller populations. Border regions with a significant division of agricultural land and forest, however, can benefit from the increase of biomass and bioenergy generation. There are, nevertheless, many barriers associated with bioenergy development in general, and in cross-border regions in particular. Despite the fact that they are a unique category and require special consideration there is almost an academic void in respect of research focusing on renewable energy linked to border regions. This research addresses the following key aspects: the crucial factors required for bioenergy dissemination and the special characteristics of European border regions, and analyzes stakeholders ' perceptions along the bioenergy supply chain. Using the two-phase design inspired by Barton and Lazarsfeld (1984) in a mixed research design, semi-structured expert interviews and online/offline surveys were conducted with stakeholders based in the border regions between Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, with their opinions measured using a Likert scale questionnaire. Both strands of data collection delivered similar perceptions, especially in the case of the stakeholders ' motivation for biomass use and bioenergy generation, in addition to differing assessments regarding the barriers for the growing of biomass, and bioenergy generation - mainly prompted by the diverse economic and legal envi ronments in each country. Among other findings, the study identified the fact that current market barriers resulting mostly from different financial incentives could be reduced if, at a European level, the various financial incentives were harmonized. In addition, common sustainable standards for bioenergy generation are required, in order to support the sustainable use of biomass and bioenergy generation. Moreover, the intensification of the transfer of knowledge and communication between cross-border parties, with the support of regional energy agencies, seems to be necessary, in order to improve knowledge of market opportu nities across border regions, and hence reduce the transaction costs in relation to bioenergy cooperation.

Abstract:
The aim of my thesis Cohesion and Regional Policy of the EU and its influence over the Region of Pardubice is to find out if the subjects from the Region of Pardubice have learnt to use the financial means from the funds of the EU and to benefit from them to realizing their projects which they could not probably execute only with use of their financial sources. At first I am concerned with the development of this policy since the time when six european countries have started to cooperate, this cooperation was found advantageous and was getting deeper and wider, till present programming period 2007 - 2013. The second chapter is focused on the Czech Republic which has been involved in using of financial means from the fund for the pre-entry help already during the existence of Czechoslovakia and then other using of the funds of the EU for pre-entry help followed. On the 1st May 2004 the Czech Republic gained the EU membership and since then the Czech Republic has been engaged in the Cohesion and Regional Policy of the EU. By entry to the EU the Czech Republic has won more financial means which the Czech Republic can use. I was interested in operational programmes which have taken place in the Czech Republic and distribution of the financial means assigned for the Czech Republic. The third chapter is aimed at the Region of Pardubice, its characteristics, I focus on the operational programmes which are significant for this region, I am interested in the biggest applicants and realized projects. In conclusion I can say that the subjects from the Region of Pardubice have learnt to use the financial means from the funds of the EU for their development and realization of their projects. There is some possibility to improve using the financial means from some operational programmes, the example can be improvement of the using financial means of operational programme Research and Development for Innovations. The most significant applicants for the financial supports from the funds of the EU in the Region of Pardubice are the Region of Pardubice, city Pardubice, Employment office in Pardubice, University of Pardubice, towns Ústí nad Orlicí, Svitavy, Chrudim, Králíky. Abstract:
Was there experimental cinema behind the Iron Curtain? What forms did experiments with film take in state socialist Eastern Europe? Who conducted them, where, how, and why? These are the questions answered in this volume, the first of its kind in any language. Bringing together scholars from different disciplines, the book offers case studies from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, former East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and former Yugoslavia. Together, these contributions demonstrate the variety of makers, production contexts, and aesthetic approaches that shaped a surprisingly robust and diverse experimental film output in the region. The book maps out the terrain of our present-day knowledge of cinematic experimentalism in Eastern Europe, suggests directions for further research, and will be of interest to scholars of film and media, art historians, cultural historians of Eastern Europe, and anyone concerned with questions of how alternative cultures emerge and function under repressive political conditions.

Abstract:
A new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spread across the world from Wuhan (China) in the first quarter of 2020. The goal of our research in this paper is to map the extension of coronavirus cases across the regions of the Czech Republic and to describe the trends in dissemination within the regions. The results of a descriptive analysis of cases in the regions of the Czech Republic are reported. The survey was based on the reports by the Regional Hygiene Station of the Czech Republic The number of days to reach 100 cases in the regions, the average age of patients in the region and the median age of the population in individual regions were calculated. The number of days to reach 100 cases in a region shows in the speed of the spread of the virus in the region. The regions with the most aggressive beginning of the infection are not those currently reporting the highest numbers of infection. Concerning the division of cases into individual regions, the Prague region is the leader in absolute numbers. The Karlovarský region, together with Prague, is the most affected if taking into account the size of the population.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to make a comparison of brownfields in the South Moravian, Olomouc, Zlín and Moravian-Silesian regions based on the spatial standpoint. Data on brownfields were obtained through the National Database of Brownfields, which is managed by the CzechInvest agency. Information about these abandoned buildings and grounds were dated on 31st March 2021. The finding of the contribution is the fact that the most abandoned buildings and areas are mainly in Moravian-Silesian and South Moravian Region. Most of brownfields are after industrial activities, civic amenities and agricultural activities. In the given article, the analysis of brownfields according to individual indicators was performed on the basis of spatial and geographical point of view. It was found that most of the examined abandoned buildings and areas are located mainly in cities, which were followed by municipalities. Furthermore, it was proved that the size of brownfields from 54% is in area up to 1 (ha). The following indicator was the distance of abandoned buildings and areas from the centre of the cadastral area. Based on the results, it was found that 45% of the analysed brownfields are located 1-3 km from the centre of the cadastral area.
