Based on new material from the Andarak 2 locality in southern Kirghizia (early Eocene, late Ypresian), the testudinid Ergilemys vialovi Ckhikvadze, 1984, is assigned to the subgenus Hadrianus Cope, 1872, of the genus Manouria Gray, 1852. Part of the humerus of the oldest known cheloniine sea turtle is described from the same locality. The cheloniine sea turtles might have evolved during the Ypresian, an interval during which Cenozoic sea turtles were exceptionally diverse.

We analyzed the internal structure of the nasal cavities of hawksbill, olive ridley and black sea turtles from computed tomography images. The nasal cavities of all three species consisted of a vestibule, nasopharyngeal duct and cavum nasi proprium that included anterodorsal, posterodorsal and anteroventral diverticula, and a small posteroventral salience formed by a fossa of the wall. Chelonia mydas, denominada tartaruga verde, é uma tartaruga marinha que freqüenta o litoral brasileiro para alimentação e nidificação e é considerada em perigo de extinção pela IUCN (2006). A fibropapilomatose, doença caracterizada por tumores cutâneos benignos (fibropapilomas), é uma das mais importantes ameaças à sobrevivência dessa espécie. Many of the early taxonomic studies of fossil sea turtles relied heavily on postcranial evidence. Both the Cheloniidae and Dermochelyidae were erected on detail of the shell and limbs. ‘Desmatochelys’ was originally described in part using cranial evidence, but later workers (Zangerl and Sloan, 1960) suppressed the family on evidence from the shell. Introdução: As tartarugas verdes (Chelonia mydas) são classificadas como vulneráveis pelos critérios da IUCN. Os principais fatores relacionados ao seu declínio populacional incluem ações antrópicas como a captura incidental em redes de pesca, poluição das praias e oceanos, urbanização do litoral e aquecimento global. Distribui-se por toda a costa brasileira, ocorrendo em grande parte do oceano Atlântico, exceto em zonas polares.
