Abstract:
AbstractWe consider the problem of reconciling the two commitments to hear a child and to promote a child's best interests by identifying the principal issues at stake and illustrating them by reference to legal decision-making in the domains of health in the United Kingdom and custody and child protection in Norway. We agree that a child's views are not authoritative but dispute Harry Brighouse's claim that they are only of consultative value, affirming the fundamental right of a child capable of expressing a view of doing so and of thereby participating in the procedures where decisions affecting his or her interests are made. In conclusion we offer a checklist of questions that need to be asked about the way in which jurisdictions combine their explicit commitments to the two principles of best interests and hearing the child's views.

Abstract:
The article describes leave related to childbirth and child raising available to the father of the child who is in a public service relationship with the Polish Prison Service. The child’s father has autonomous rights, that is, ones that are only vested in him (paternity leave), and subsidiary rights, which are vested in him but only in a situation where the child's mother does not exercise them (maternity leave), and equivalent rights, that is, those which he can exercise on equal terms with the child's mother (leave on the terms of maternity leave, parental leave, childcare leave). Cases in which a child's parents work in different employment settings are analysed. In this connection, the author discusses regulations concerning cases of parental leave in situations where the mother and father of a child have the status of PS officers, where the father of a child is a PS officer and the child's mother is employed or covered by social insurance in case of sickness and maternity, specified in the Act of 13 October 1998 on the social insurance system, under a title other than an employment relationship, for example when she is self-employed, and finally cases where a child's mother is not covered by sickness insurance at all.

Daana, Hana Asaad. "The Development of Coda Consonants in the Speech of a Bilingual Child: A Case Study." International Journal of Linguistics 9, no. 5 (October 4, 2017): 149. http://dx.doi.org/10.5296/ijl.v9i5.11747.

Abstract:
This paper reports on the findings of a study that explored the development of consonants in coda position in the speech of a bilingual child. This data was collected through parental diaries. The researcher traced the development of English and Arabic consonants in coda position in her own child’s production between the ages of 1.4 and 5. The analysis suggests that frequency of occurrence in the child's input plays a major role in the early appearance of particular sounds in coda position in the child's production. The analysis also reveals that the most used English consonants in coda position in the child's production are those which prefer coda position to onset position. Due to the absence of studies about the distribution of Arabic sounds within onset and coda positions, the factor that has been adopted analyzing the development of Arabic consonants in coda position is the frequency of occurrence in the child's input (parental speech). The analysis assures that the Universal Grammar Constraints also have a role in the development of some English and Arabic consonants in coda position.

Abstract:
Children who are critically ill are vulnerable and the nurse has a responsibility to meet the child's needs in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The aim was to explore the vulnerable child's participation and how it can be understood through the nurses’ perspective in the nursing care intervention. The study design was an exploratory inductive qualitative approach. Data collection was done through observations and interviews. The data from the observations were analyzed through interpretive phenomenology. The affective elements were viewed as essential for uncover how children participate in the PICU. Three themes emerged through the analysis: Mediated participation, Bodily participation and Participation by proxy. They all highlight different aspect of the vulnerable child's way of participating in the nursing care given, through nurses’ awareness and situated salience. The concept participation should be redefined and broadened; as participation can present itself through the child’s body in diverse ways.

Abstract:
In the 21st century it is important to every child to belong to a certain society, to learn its cultural values, its norms and requirements, thus socially adapting and integrating. The first weeks or months in school are considered as a period of particular importance in a 7-year-old child's life, when is the period of the child's social adaptation. A 7-year-old child’s further education at school can be predicted by depending on how the social adaptation of the 7-year-old child goes on, based on the legality of child development. Unfortunately, there are no unified research criteria developed so far in school practice by which it would be possible to determine the 7-year-old child's social adaptation. Taking into consideration the analysis of theoretical policies, there are research criteria groups and levels of children's social adaptation named and formulated within this paper, in order to explore the 7-year-old children's social adaptation and to provide appropriate educational support.

Abstract:
The early childhood is considered as one of the decisive stages in a child’s life. It’s viewed as the first building block that shapes the child’s personality in all its aspects, as this is when the child begins to deal with his external surrounding. Moreover, during this period the child's awareness grows towards autonomy. He starts to rely on himself in his actions and movement confidently. What the child experiences in his first years, shapes all his upcoming learnings. For instance, during the preschool, the child starts acquiring new principles and grasps some abstract concepts like solidarity, participation, socialization … The institution also works on promoting all the skills which are related to artistic creativity, recreational and educational activities. And since the intervention at this stage has a great impact on the child’s scholastic success, Its consequences positively affect the child’s health and behavior, as well as his cognitive and mental development. Thus, the recent studies have shed light on the child's cognitive development in early stages. And focused mainly on understanding and identifying the factors affecting this development. A reference should be made that the child's cognitive development is crucially related scholastic success. That’s to say, by promoting the executive functions (inhibition - cognitive flexibility – memory – planning and organizing…) at the very early childhood stage is regarded as the cornerstone for building a child’s cognitive skills and acquiring social behavior. This research study aims to explore the children’s executive functions state at their early childhood stage (preschool children) in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses which needs intervention. The study was implemented by using the CHILDHOOD EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING INVENTORY (CHEXI) FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS. The study participant were 150 children, divided among 10 educators in the second preparatory level at 4 different schools. The latter are part of (The Moroccan Foundation for the Promotion of preSchool education) in the Rabat region. It was concluded that the executive functions of preschool children still need further reinforcement and development by setting up an intervention program.
