Abstract:
The purpose of this work has been to explore if objects can strengthen communication between psychologists and children in therapy. Can objects together with tactility as a tool help us to find and put words to feelings and episodes in our lives? I have explored this by interviewing three psychologists on several occasions who work with children. I have planned and implemented a three-day workshop with four children in the age of 7. Working in 3D as a method of sketching and testing has been an important part of the process. The work resulted in a tactile material consisting of 18 objects that have different material qualities. During tests the material has been helpful in order tostart conversation and getting help describing emotions. My hope is that this material will continued to be tested and developed.

Abstract:
For the past ten months I have explored the life of a deceased artist named Joseph Barley "J.B." Childers. In the graduate catalog Gregory Volk summarizes Childers as, "an alienated Korean War Veteran, who took up painting as a refuge from his troubles, and who also doesn't exist. Childers who is naturally right-handed, painted everything left-handed because of a war wound, and so Engelmann, who is left-handed, painted with his right hand, which is quite a limitation." Of course, there's more to the story than that and the writings that follow will explain many of my reasons for pursuing this project.

Úlfarsdóttir, Lilja Ósk. "The effects of short term interpersonal cognitive problem solving therapy with young childen." Thesis, University of Leicester, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/2381/31168.

Full text
Abstract:
The primary aim of this study is to investigate the effects of short term Interpersonal Cognitive Problem Solving (ICPS) training with pre-school children compared to an alternative treatment of Music Therapy (MT). The MT treatment served to investigate the relationship between creativity and Alternative Solutions Thinking (AST). No treatment control was included in the design (Study I). Seven-month follow-up measures of effects from the treatments are included (Study II), to determine the stability of therapeutic gains. The results reveal a successful elevation of AST and Consequential Thinking (CT) following ICPS training, stable over at least seven months and a sleeper effect from the MT treatment. Behavioural observation revealed improved social interactive behaviours following treatment, but there is some indication that behavioural gains may not be stable. The influence of music on AST and CT was further examined in Study III by comparing AST and CT fluency of children who attended a musically enriched pre-school to that of the children who received short term MT treatment and a non-treatment Control group. The children in Study III proved significantly better at AST and CT than the children in the previous studies were. Finally, in Study IV, an alternative mode of mediating ICPS skills was attempted. This involved a short training of pre-school staff to apply ICPS training techniques in daily dealings with the children. Girls benefited more from this treatment, and only CT skills were elevated. Results are related to previous findings in ICPS research and discussed in terms of developmental theories, especially Vygotsky's conception of thought development and Crick and Dodge's (1994) social information processing model. A developmental relationship between AST and CT is suggested and it is argued that AST may be a form of creative thought. Implications of the results for education and therapy are discussed.

Full text
Abstract:
Different stimuli have been used for doing philosophy with children (P4C/PwC), either specially designed for this reason, such as Matthew Lipman's novels or not, such as picture-books and works of art. Nevertheless, there is a gap in justifying philosophically the role of stimuli with in the context of the theory and practice of a philosophical community of inquiry. This gap is the subject of my conceptual research which aims at constructing a theory of what a stimulus is and its particular role within a philosophical inquiry. In this thesis, philosophy is viewed as a way of life that contains both, generative and evaluative aspects and it is explored how it links with the epistemological presuppositions of philosophy with children. The nature of the stimulus is explained in a more pragmatic framework and it is fully distinguished from behavioristical use. It is argued that a stimulus is suitable for doing philosophy with children if the engagement of individuals with it generates catalepsy (a sense of grasping) and moments of epiphany, that can lead to Eros for further inquiry. It is claimed that this is possible when the narrative structure of the stimuli matches with the narrative understanding of the individual when engaging with the stimulus. Zymotic thinking, a new term introduced in this thesis which refers to a mixture of critical, creative and emotional thinking that matures through a fermentative process in time is a way to explain how stimuli are linked with philosophy as a way of life with generative and evaluative aspects. Consequences of zymotic thinking such as mapping of individuals' experiences, activating self-corrective thinking and adopting diatheses of openness and alertness are introduced as ways that explain how stimuli are linked with philosophy are also used to explain the connection between the stimuli and philosophy. The philosophical points of this thesis are illustrated and supported further by: a) empirical examples of philosophical inquiries with children and adults, b) the reflective analysis of existing stimuli for doing philosophy with children and stimuli that came from children's experiences, and c) the offering of a sample of the author's stories that could be used as stimuli for doing philosophy with children.

The experience of children and adolescents is increasingly mediated by information and communication technologies. Yet, the trajectory for literacy education in U.S. schools continues to prioritize print literacy. As a result, students often lack the knowledge, skills, and expertise needed to ‘read and write’ in the digital world of the twenty-first century. Concerned by the influence of media to empower or exploit young people, educators at many levels are discovering media literacy as an augmentation to traditional literacy. The purpose of this research was to investigate how teachers implemented media literacy in practice. The following subquestions were also examined: (1) How do teachers define 'media literacy'? (2) Why do teachers teach media literacy? (3) What are the outcomes of media literacy teaching? (4) What are the challenges, limitations, and opportunities teachers experience when implementing media literacy? To answer these questions, a case study was conducted of three teachers as they collaborated in implementing a media literacy curriculum at the middle level. The results suggest that teachers who implement media literacy were motivated by awareness and knowledge of childhood and adolescent development, particularly related to increases in media use and the extent to which media shape the choices of children and teens. Media literacy practice was constructivist, embodying a student-centered approach where teachers served to guide students' media literacy learning, facilitating active learning, co-viewing , critical inquiry and reflection in a classroom climate where students' analysis and interpretations of media messages were respected and valued. Teachers worked to preserve students' enjoyment of media, acknowledging popular media as a valuable part of adolescent culture and identity, while encouraging critical inquiry. Media literacy activities consisted of viewing, labeling, and discussing commercial media that was relevant, accessible, and meaningful for students . Learning outcomes included: (a) increased awareness of all media messages as constructed; (b) the development of vocabulary to analyze and deconstruct media messages; (c) skill building in critical inquiry; and (d) empowerment via video production as assessment. Despite findings related to effective teaching practices, the results also indicate that curricular placement for media literacy continues to be a challenge for interested teachers and administrators.

Mörelius, Evalotte. "Stress in infants and parents : Studies of salivary cortisol, behaviour and psychometric measures." Doctoral thesis, Linköpings universitet, Pediatrik, 2006. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-7294.

Full text
Abstract:
The life of a preterm infant admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit may be stressful from the moment of birth. Ever since Hans Selye’s initial characterisation of the biological stress response, cortisol has been frequently measured as an indicator of stress responsivity. However, research of the stress response and cortisol in infants, especially those who are preterm and/or ill, has been scarce basically because of methodological issues. The first aim with this thesis was to investigate the acute stress response, as measured by salivary cortisol and behaviour, for preterm infants, healthy infants, and infants at high psychosocial risk in response to certain defined handling procedures. The second aim was to investigate the stress response, as measured by salivary cortisol and psychometric measures, for parents present during the handling procedure of their infants. The intention was to perform all investigations in an as naturally occurring situation as possible, which means that the studied procedures would have been performed irrespectively of the research. The present thesis includes six original articles. The results of the first study demonstrate that it is feasible to collect sufficient amounts of saliva and to analyse salivary cortisol in neonates using the presented method of collection and analysis. The second study shows that preterm infants, usually cared for in incubators, show no signs of discomfort and have variable cortisol responses during skin-to-skin care with their mothers. The mothers, however, experience stress and low control before their first skin-to-skin care with their preterm infant and do not relax completely until after the session. In the third study we found that preterm infants have higher baseline salivary cortisol as compared to healthy full-term infants. Moreover, preterm infants have higher and sustained pain response during a nappy change as compared to healthy full-term infants. The results of the fourth study shows that infants younger than three months, living in psychosocial high-risk families, have increased cortisol responses during a nappy change, performed by the mother. However, support with the aim of improving mother-infant interaction, dampens the stress response. The results of the fifth study show that oral sweet-tasting solution in combination with a pacifier dampen the levels of the stress hormone cortisol in three months old infants during routine immunisation. Moreover, parents experience more self-rated emotional stress before immunisation if it is their first child who is being immunised. The sixth paper shows that the material used for saliva collection (cotton buds with wooden or plastic sticks) is of importance when saliva is collected but for practical reasons not centrifuged within 24 hours prior to cortisol analyse. The present thesis shows that it is practically feasible to collect saliva and to analyse the stress hormone cortisol in infants. The interpretation of infants’ and parents’ salivary cortisol responses to different handling procedures are discussed in relation to shortand long-term consequences, neonatal intensive care, preterm birth, attachment, mood, and pain.

In this work, we analyze the intellectual trajectory of Cecília Meireles as problematizing issues related to Education and Child Literature in her prose works. For that, a presentation and figuration of the child we performed both from the perspective of the Escola Nova, through the work Criança meu amor and the author's chronicles, as well also as in the representations of his memories from the book Olhinhos de Gato. We observe the political gaze that marks the itinerary traveled by the writer from the texts of the 1920s, on childhood and education, to the critical re-creation of the history of Brazil in Romanceiro da Inconfidência (1953) which proposes, and of a certain form "teaches", a new way of reading the hegemonic texts. In this way, it was possible observe that Cecilia Meireles chooses, according to her critical perspectives in each of these three decades of intellectual work, different heroic figures, from Rui Barbosa (predestined and consecrated hero) to Tiradentes (discredited and martyred hero). We have some literary works in prose that we use to analyze it was Criança meu amor (1924), Olhinhos de Gato (1940), Rui – pequena história de uma grande vida (1948) and Romanceiro da Inconfidência (1953), as well as some chronicles in this literary works O que se diz e o que se entende (1980).

This study aims to analyze not only the situation of minors and their families that, in the city of Porto Alegre in the last half of XIX century (then the capital city of the province/ the southernmost Brazilian state), called on the legal guardianship mechanism to settle, through legal means, any misfortune that has happened to them or their families, but also the institution that was responsible for trying the judicial proceedings - The Orphans Court of Porto Alegre. That institution protected the rights of children living without a family because of parents’ maltreatment, diseases, incapability – or death - , being in charge of designating an adult to be responsible for each child who needed a guardian. This paper used Social History as theoretical methodological framework in order to reflect on given aspects related to the institution, as those who enforce the law, the social agents who appealed to it introducing a minor in need of a legal guardian and, mainly, the children, adolescent and the young who had their history preserved in the Guardianship Court records. Therefore, we were able to comprehend the family dynamics in which the social political and economic structure ended up interceding through the District Court of Orphans of Porto Alegre.

The topic of this master’s thesis was to make an architectural study of the Childern´s sanatorium with speleotheraphy in Ostrov u Macochy. The Sanatorium provides a professional care to the children and teenage with respiratory diseases, asthma but also skin diseases. The proposed building will primarily serve the needs of this sanatorium with the possibility of using some of its parts by the public. The area is located near the upper entrance to the Císařská jeskyně, which is now used for speleotherapy. The new building will be located on a sloping terrain near the surrounding development, which consists only of family houses. The ambition of the proposal was to use the orientation of the slope to the south, which offers a beautiful view of the town and at the same time sensitively set the building into the surrounding landscape of the Moravian Karst. The project itself consists of 4 main buildings that are interconnected by atrium in the middle. This atrium connects not only buildings, but also individual services, and thus acts as a kind of communication node.

Abstract:
Entheseal changes are defined as bone modifications of the interface where tendons and ligaments meet bone (i.e. entheses). While they are widely used as activity markers by anthropologists, their study is far more rarely employed to explore past Human-Equid interactions. The inclusion of entheseal changes in zooarchaeological analyses can provide new insights into this subject, particularly with regard to the activities for which these animals were employed. A new scoring system based on 23 entheses located on the appendicular skeleton of equids is introduced. The study of 61 modern documented specimens shows that it is possible to distinguish (1) worked from unworked animals, and (2) the different functions for which some of them were exploited (riding, traction). Activity is not the only etiology involved in the development of entheseal changes: parameters such as age-at-death, body proportions and the environmental context must also be considered. This approach was then applied to the 21 horses found surrounding the tumulus of King Childeric I, who is thought to have died in 481-482 A.D., and excavated in the Saint-Brice district of Tournai (Belgium). In association with an exhaustive paleopathological study, analyses of entheseal changes contribute to the osteobiography of these equids and provide additional insight into their living conditions. The dental and skeletal health status of these animals was good when they died. In particular, entheseal changes argue in favor of the hypothesis that these horses were used as saddle animals. This research thus demonstrates the potential of entheseal changes to enhance the study of equid remains found in archaeological contexts

Gosling, Edward Peter Joshua. "Tommy Atkins, War Office reform and the social and cultural presence of the late-Victorian army in Britain, c.1868-1899." Thesis, University of Plymouth, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10026.1/4359.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the development of the soldier in late-Victorian Britain in light of the movement to rehabilitate the public image of the ordinary ranks initiated by the Cardwell-Childers Reforms. Venerated in popular culture, Tommy Atkins became a symbol of British imperial strength and heroism. Socially, however, attitudes to the rank-and-file were defined by a pragmatic realism purged of such sentiments, the likes of which would characterise the British public’s relationship with their army for over thirty years. Scholars of both imperial culture and the Victorian military have identified this dual persona of Tommy Atkins, however, a dedicated study into the true nature of the soldier’s position has yet to be undertaken. The following research will seek to redress this omission. The soldier is approached through the perspective of three key influences which defined his development. The first influence, the politics of the War Office, exposes a progressive series of schemes which, cultivated for over a decade, sought to redefine the soldier through the popularisation of military service and the professionalisation of the military’s public relations strategy and apparatus. A forgotten component of the Cardwell-Childers Reforms, the schemes have not before been scrutinised. Despite the ingenuity of the schemes devised, the social rehabilitation of the soldier failed, primarily, it will be argued, because the government refused to improve his pay. The public’s response to the Cardwell-Childers Reforms and the British perception of the ordinary soldier in the decades following their introduction form the second perspective. Through surveys of the local and London press and mainstream literature, it is demonstrated the soldier, in part as a result of the reforms, underwent a social transition, precipitated by his entering the public consciousness and encouraged by a resulting fascination in the military life. The final perspective presented in this thesis is from within the rank-and-file itself. Through the examination of specialist newspaper, diary and memoir material the direct experiences of the soldiers themselves are explored. Amid the extensive public and political discussion of their nature and status, the soldier also engaged in the debate. The perspective of the rank-and-file provides direct context for the established perspectives of the British public and the War Office, but also highlights how the soldier both supported and opposed the reforms and was acutely aware of the social status he possessed. This thesis will examine the public and political treatment of the soldier in the late-nineteenth century and question how far the conflicting ideas of soldier-hero and soldier-beggar were reconciled.

Abstract:
Background: The use of herbal medicines in children and adolescents is continually on the rise. Contrary to popular belief, herbal products (HPs) are not always a safe alternative to conventional drugs and can cause a variety of adverse events such as severe and fatal allergic reactions. In regards to herbal medicine use in children, a recently published systematic review that searched PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO and AMED included 58 studies from 19 countries and found overall herbal lifetime use to be between 0.8-85.5 % and 2.2-8.9 % for current use. Unlike most synthetically produced drugs, the adverse event profile of such "natural" preparations in children has rarely been studied. To this date, effective systems that monitor adverse drug events (ADRs) and long term side effects associated with HPs are either non-existent or still developing in many countries. Due to insufficient and inconsistent ADR reporting, little is known about the ADR spectrum of herbals in pediatric patients. Awareness of the potential of HPs to cause ADRs, particularly in children and adolescents, needs to be increased and reporting to national pharmacovigilance centers (PVCs) reinforced. Objectives: This project analyzed the worldwide adverse event data for herbal drugs related to hypersensitivity reactions as recorded in...

The purposes of this action research were to improve the frame of children learning portfolio to kindergarten and systematize the documenting works to reduce the documenting workload for teachers. The techniques used to collect data included observation, interview and questionnaire, and use qualitative analysis to describe the data. In this study, the problems have been solved by looking for professional support and introspection. The significant findings are as follows: 1. The frame of children learning portfolio included the children development checklist, portfolios and final report. The portfolios included children description about the reason choose the work and the content of the work, reports of parents observed the children development outside of the school, and reports of teachers observed the children’s development in the school. 2. Kindergarten adopted two tactics to systematize the documenting works: (1) Teachers use ``the work sampling system`` to collect portfolio, but use the ability indicator instead of the discipline description, the teachers just have to write anecdotal records. (2) To plan the calendar of documenting works of children learning portfolio in advance. 3. Systematize documenting works can reduce the workload for teachers, and can help teachers to plan the documenting schedule, avoid teachers to accumulate works or lose the detail of records. On the other hand, the teacher will still have to spend some extra time on arranging anecdotal records after class. 4. Because the teachers need to document individual portfolio for each child, so no child will be neglect. 5. Children learning portfolio can appear the development of children specifically, assess teaching fruitage of teachers and can be the advantageous media to help teachers to communicate with parents. 6. Because parents participate in documenting, therefore approve the benefit of the kindergarten documenting children learning portfolio.

In recent years a preschool teacher’s emotion had become the focus of the media, but in the research on education, it was rarely considered as study issues comparing with other related studies. Therefore, this study was focusing on exploring the teacher’s emotion regulation of the teacher-child interaction in preschool inclusive context – Montessori materials practicing , theme curriculum , daily routine, gross motor activities. There were two private preschool teachers and two preschoolers with language delay participating in the study. The field observation and interviews were used as research methods to collect data. The results found that the teachers’ emotion regulation in four types of inclusive context were: accompanying children with cheerful expressions, transferring negative expressions into encouragement, showing patience, forbearing, pretending to be angry, enraged. The positive emotions of backstage emotion regulation were: children’s progress became the next step of effort, the profound relationship among colleague. Negative emotions were: difficulties with the colleagues, using leisure activities as the way to express negative emotion, complete daily work and left off the class as soon as possible. Finally, the researcher provided some suggestions to the preschool and preschool teachers concerning emotion regulation.

Abstract Cerebral palsy is a chronic disease, by which more than 90% of disabled children have more than three kinds of malfunction. Therefore, it is both a great shock and a long-term source of stress for the parents and their family who have children affected by cerebral palsy. This research is aimed to discuss the sources of stress and copings by parents breeding the cerebral palsy-affected children, and compare the difference between fathers and mothers when perceiving stress and coping with it. The descriptive research is adopted. With purposive sampling, the author collected data from the out-patient department and the acupuncture out-patient clinic of a medical center in the northern Taiwan, and two children development centers. The process is for 20-30 minutes. The author collected a sample of 196 people on condition that the illness of the children, age 1 through 13, are diagnosed by doctors as cerebral palsy, and their fathers or mothers agree to be interviewed. The result indicates that the average age of fathers (n=88) is 38.4 (SD=5.49), and the average one of mothers (n=108) is 35.5(SD=5.51). It also suggests that in the stress scoring, there is no clear distinction between fathers and mothers. In the stress classification, both fathers and mothers score the highest points by “the stress from caretaking of the ill children,” with fathers score the second highest points by “the stress from social environments and economy” and mothers by “stress from themselves and communicating with the family.” In coping, “problem-focused coping” is used more by mothers than by fathers. The influencing factors of stress and its coping as follows: 1. The personal attributes of parents: Regarding stress, the mothers whose educational level are junior high school graduates and below have higher stress from caretaking of ill children than the ones whose educational level are college graduates. The mothers who are full-time workers have higher stress from medical caretaking than the ones who are jobless or part-time workers. The mothers who have three children have higher stress from the keeping of children than the ones who have one or two children. Regarding coping, the fathers whose educational level are college graduates and above use “problem-focused coping” more often than the ones whose educational level are junior high school graduates. The fathers who have one ill child use “problem-focused coping” more often than the ones who have two ill children. 2. The personal attributes of ill children: The parents whose ill children didn’t receive occupational therapy, have higher stress than, the ones whose ill children received occupational therapy. The fathers whose ill children never seek rehabilitation have higher stress from caretaking of ill children and medical caretaking than the ones whose ill children seek rehabilitation. The fathers whose ill children cannot receive rehabilitation have higher stress than the ones whose ill children often receive rehabilitation. The mothers whose ill children occasionally receive rehabilitation have higher stress than the ones whose ill children absolutely receive rehabilitation. The mothers whose ill children have 4 relevant defects have higher stress from caretaking of ill children. The mothers whose ill children receive special education have higher stress from caretaking of ill children, herself and interaction with social environment and economy than the ones whose ill children didn’t receive special education. 3. The family situation: The fathers who have hired babysitters have higher stress from social environment and economy than the ones who have not hired babysitters. The mothers who belong to others in family type have higher stress from itself, interaction with family, and social environment and economy than the ones who belong to the family in which the couple, their children and parents live together. Regarding coping, the fathers who lives with wives and children in family type, more often use “problem-focused coping.” The fathers whose family monthly income is between NT$ 20001 and NT$ 40000, use“emotion-focused coping” more often than the ones whose family monthly income is between NT$ 40001 and NT$ 60000. The mothers whose have not hired babysitters uses “emotion-focused coping” than the ones whose have hired babysitters. 4. The prediction of stress upon the research objects: Regarding the stress from caretaking of the ill children, relevant defects number, monthly family income were significant predictable variables for fathers, explaining 18.2% of variance; relevant defects number, family type, education level, and the receptivity of ill children toward rehabilitation cure were significant predictable variables for mothers, explaining 59.2% of variance. Regarding the stress from the medical care, relevant defects number, monthly family income were significant predictable variables for fathers, explaining 18.6% of variance; the follow of ill children toward rehabilitation cure, language defect, and family type were significant predictable variables for mothers, explaining 21.5% of variance; Regarding the stress from themselves and communicating with family, special education, the receptivity of ill children toward rehabilitation cure and family type were significant predictable variables for mothers, explaining 19.9%; Regarding the stress from the social environment and economy, monthly family income, employment of babysitters, family type and education level were significant predictable variables for fathers, explaining 23.8% of variance; family type, relevant defects number and the types of diseases was significant predictable variables explaining 13.8% of variance. Regarding the stress from care children, special education, education level, were significant predictable variables for fathers, explaining 15.5%; education level, the children number and mental defects were significant predictable variables for mothers, explaining 19.5%; the total stress, monthly family income and relevant defects number were significant predictable variables for fathers, explaining 12%; relevant defects number, family type, the receptivity of ill children toward rehabilitation cure and education level were significant predictable variables for mothers, explaining 25.8% variance. This research is expected to help medical and nursing staff explore and assess the needs of the disabled children and their parents, offer them individual-specific caring, lessen their perceived stress, and use proper the ways of coping. It also hopes to provide the cerebral palsy-affected children and their family improved adjustment, and establish pragmatic knowledge and know-how for nurses facing this situation. In addition, the author anticipates to let the problems and difficulties facing parents whose kids have cerebral palsy be realized and thought about by the public, assisting the disabled children and their parents to enjoy better quality of life.

This is a self-narrative paper concerning a social worker fearing conflicts got involved in the child protection service work which is awash with conflicts. I recorded how I ran into conflicts based on the past decade I spent in this field. The paper reviews the corresponding adjustments and reforming I performed after exploring the value and faith infused by my families, as well as my past learning experience. Furthermore, the interpersonal interactions and self-reflection enabled me to fulfill self-positioning and obtained benefits again in the course of social work. It is expected to have resonance with readers over similar experiences and processes and then start a new course of ten years of social work. It is found that I failed to find myself when writing with an unaccustomed and informal structure. Consequently, I started to flip into a state that resisting to write. I did not find the motive over narration until I communicated with readers, read the literatures written by senior and took part in the story links held by the workshop. I then somewhat understood what the “narration” should be. I therefore worked out some texts filled with my own emotions after deep consideration. Hence, I found that I was frightened of conflicts. By writing about my work and in virtue of processes of things I have ever experienced, I found myself to constantly correct behaviors and communicate with myself based on setbacks and experience, and to endow new meanings to conflicts in accordance to instructions and inheritance coming from parents and connections with treatment in work. I then learned that I was actually not used to conflicts, rather than afraid of them. I would no longer be influenced by emotions at the moment. I understood that I was a warmhearted social worker at that time. Finally, I understood clearly about my state and decisions. I would tell my children that “your mother is a social worker”, expecting that they would be proud of that. I would also tell them that they should generously make contributions and give care within their capacity. Moreover, I also put forwards suggestions regarding the work environment in future, with the expectation of a better new decade.

This fact can remark the family even this way, which the physical problems can appear by the parents or they can incline to risk change of their behaviour. The parents? roles also could change and exists also risk, that brothers and sister of child with a mental disability can follow contacts with difficulties. These families have their own particularity, because the birth of child with a mental disability means great stress for these families. The theoretic part of this work pays attention to a mental disability and its classification. Further are the welfare services available, which can families with a mental disability child use of. It is not also left out the role of family, the importance of parental roles and brotherly and sisterly constellation. I describe style of upbringing and further I concern the particularity of family with a mental disability child in my dissertation likewise the role of brother and sister by the child with a mental disability. There are also stages of acceptance with the diagnosis of a mental disability and risk behaviour of parents these children with a mental disability as results of managing critical situation described and the related physical problems. The target of dissertation is finding out if exists diametrically differences between parental roles by the care about a mental disability child and the healthy child. The intermediate target is finding out if the families with a mental disability child are more predisposed to a presence of social pathological syndromes. The theory expects following fact that the care for a mental disability child has provided by overall in majority by mothers. Families with a mental disability child incline to risk change of their behaviour than by the families with the healthy child. Brothers and sisters of a mental disability child do less friendly relationships than of the healthy children. The approach to quantitative study was used at all. The strategy of questionnaire: The questionnaire inquiry was performed by the 20 families with healthy children and by the 20 families with a mental disability child. The filled questionnaires had evaluated using the elementary statistics of software programmes SPSS and Excel. I found out more conflicting relationships between brothers and sisters in the families with a mental disability child than in the families with healthy children. Brothers and sisters of a mental disability child care more about their mental disability brother or sister than the elder brothers and sisters care about their younger ones. Likewise the brothers and sisters with a mental disability brother or sister have less friendly relationships than the children with healthy brothers and sisters. Families with healthy children enjoy more harmonious parental care than by the families with a mental disability child and mainly mothers do it. The grandparents act on behalf of parents with healthy children more often than in the families with a mental disability child, there exists often absence caring grandparents. The same is the fact that both compared families models using mostly democratic style of upbringing. Psychical problems exist more often by the parents with a mental disability child.

My thesis focuses on role of musical tools in pre-school education. It explores their history as well as historical significance but also current situation on the market and their use in practice. My goal is to define the very notion of musical tool and set general categorization in relation with musical capabilities it helps to develop. My work also maps the availability of musical tool in selected pre-schools and their use in these environments. The next task is to research how the tools designed by children themselves are helping develop their own musicality, especially those tools trying to visualize basic musical elements, while guiding them towards creativity. This was achieved by observation of two groups of fifteen children from age 4 to 6. KEYWORDS musical tools, musical creativity, musicality, pre-school education, pre-school children.

Abstract:
Since the late 20th century there has been an increase migration in of people due to the development of new technologies, easier ways of travel and the opening of national borders. People travel abroad for jobs, studies, or exploring new countries. During these travels some of them find life partners abroad, settle down there, conclude marriages and establish families. It often happens that such marriages end in divorce. If children are born in such a wedlock questions arise as to who will take care of them, who will pay maintenance etc. In some cases a parent decides to solve a conflict situation in such a way that he/she moves with the child without consent of the other parent to another place within the country or he/she decides to move to another country, usually to the country of his/her origin. He/she wants to settle there with the child and to legalize staying there. Such removal where national borders are crossed is considered to be international child abduction. The basic document dealing with the issue of international child abductions is the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (hereinafter the Hague Convention) adopted on 25 October 1980 and currently acceded to by 87 states. The Hague Convention establishes rules according to which cases of...
