Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study is to examine how caretakers speak to young children in a day-care centre and particularly to investigate how they adjust their language, according to children's age and to size of groups. Five Italian teachers were observed, each one during six different sessions. Children's ages were 0;10–1;2 and 2;6–3;0. The number of children varied from a rather large group (seven children) to a small group (three children) to a single child. Language was taperecorded during free-play sessions of ten minutes. Context was noted by two observers. Transcripts were analysed according to structural features (syntactical complexity, redundancy, type-token ratio, speed) and functional features (proportion of utterances with different purpose: control and organization of child behaviour, empathy, conversation and teaching). Results show some significant differences in structure and function according to children's age and group size.

Abstract:
Abstract: The current number of working mothers has increased dramatically. Later, child-rearing has become a daily challenge for many families. Thus, many parents send their children to grandparents' homes or to daycare centers. However, parents are not always able to monitor their children's every move. Therefore, the Internet of Things-based Baby Monitoring System (IoTBBMS) is being proposed as an efficient and inexpensive IoT-based monitoring system in real time. We also came up with a new algorithm for our system that plays a key role in providing better child care in the absence of parents. In the design process, the Node Micro-Controller Unit (NodeMCU) is used to collect sensor-readable data and upload it via Wi-Fi to the AdaFruit BLYNK server. The proposed system uses sensors to monitor important fetal parameters, such as ambient temperature, humidity, and crying. The system structure consists of a baby's crib that will automatically swipe using the engine when the baby cries. Parents can also monitor their children's condition with an external webcam and open a playful toy located on the baby's crib from a BLYNK server to entertain the baby. The proposed prototype of the system is designed and tested to prove its cost-effectiveness and simplicity and to ensure safe operation to enable child rearing anywhere and anytime via the network. Finally, the child monitoring system is proven to be effective in monitoring the child's condition and the environment in accordance with the model. All data taken from the sensors / modules will be stored in the Mobile application and periodically updated. The Health Algorithm is used in these databases to get information about useful physical conditions as any common symptoms of the disease can be easily identified. The proposed prototype of the system is designed and tested to prove its cost-effectiveness and simplicity and to ensure safe operation to enable child rearing anywhere and anytime via the network. Finally, the child monitoring system is proven to be effective in monitoring the child's condition and the environment according to the prototype. Keywords: IOT, Research, Node MCU, BLYNK, MQTT

Abstract:
The issue of reading interest formation among older preschoolers is relevant due to the general decline in reading culture in modern society, the underestimation of the fiction role by parents and the introduction of children to reading for their intellectual, social, artistic, aesthetic and psycho-emotional development. Parents stopped reading books to their children, using electronic audiovisual products as a means of children's knowledge of the world around them; as a result, modern preschoolers develop outside the context of book culture, which negatively affects their mental development. The aim of the study is to develop organizational and pedagogical conditions that ensure formation effectiveness of reader interest in fiction among older preschoolers based on the scientific sources analysis. Reader interest in senior preschool age is a dynamic personal formation, which manifests itself in the child's conscious and selective attitude in choosing the types and genres of works of fiction to meet cognitive and artistic and aesthetic needs. The effectiveness of the reader interest formation among 7-year-old children will be facilitated by the implementation of complex with organizational and pedagogical conditions in the preschool institution educational practice. The complex includes development of a model and program of pedagogical support for reader interest formation in fiction among older preschoolers, social partnership relations with a children's library, developing subject-spatial environment in the preschool group, enriched with didactic and subject material focused on the literary development of older preschoolers.

Abstract:
The article explores the specificity of linguistic creativity in the discourse of children's English-language adventure fiction of the 1950s. The aim of the research is to develop the parametrization and vector-space method of discourse and text linguistic creativity assessment to evaluate the linguistic creativity potential of individual texts displaying similar discourse features. To serve as the research data three discourse fragments were selected, which represent three basic narrative types, Orientation, Complicating Actions, Evaluation and Resolution. To achieve the aim, the author applies the procedure of parametrization analysis followed by general and analytic statistics analysis and vector-space modelling. With the system of 52 parameters featuring linguistic creativity in phonology, word-formation, morphology, lexicology and phraseology, syntax, and graphics, the author manually annotates and processes the discourse fragments of similar size exemplifying three narrative types of adventure fiction literature, with the total sample size of 55,000 characters. General statistics analysis allowed revealing the absolute and relative parameter values in three discourse fragments and defining the relative parametric activity of single parameters and parameter levels. Analysis of variance helped define the correlation indices of parameter paired combinations, which resulted in detecting significant binary parameter groups . Individual parameter values and their binary groups served to construe the vector-space models of discourse and text linguistic creativity for the discourse narrative types under consideration. Thus, the author obtained an efficient instrument for discourse linguistic creativity evaluation and, furthermore, for assessing the potential of each individual text in terms of displaying stronger or weaker correlation with the vector coordinates of the discourse linguistic creativity vector-space model. With the frequency and variance analysis, the author disclosed two types of discourse linguistic creativity performance techniques, that is the individual parameter activation and the parameter synchronization. Both must be considered when the decision on linguistic creativity assessment in a concrete text is made. The resulting model shows that the parameter values of linguistic creativity in individual texts can manifest themselves in appearing both higher and lower than the reference parameter values of discourse creativity, which can contribute to disclosing new directions in creativity processing and understanding.

Abstract:
Social movements taken up in children's literature since the 1960s have foregrounded the ethical concerns of changing societies in a range of areas that includes environmental and ecological issues. While philosophers align ethical responsibility with a need to be impartial, fiction will routinely violate impartiality because of social and emotional attachments deemed desirable for personal and general well-being. Such attachments are rendered strongly in children's fiction because of the textual dominance of heavy character focalisation in both first person and third person narratives, and thence a basis for reader response analogous to an interpersonal relationship. Questions of ethics, attachment and representation come together in a recent strand, or sub-genre, in environmental literature in which issues in environmental ethics are explored by constructing a parallel between ecoconsciousness and interpersonal human relationships of various types according to the age of the participant characters. A common narrative strategy in such texts is to construct parallel narratives underpinned by a metonymic interrelationship, whereby threatened or damaged nature is matched by threatened or damaged lives. The thematic outcome blends an interweaving of nature and culture with a more pragmatic environmentalism than usually pertains in children's texts.

Abstract:
Philippa Mein Smith's reference to the official marketing advice that "everything tastes better with cream," reflected a 1950s' abundance: eggs and produce, full employment (for men), and the baby boom, which "boosted the market for children's toys and obliged fathers to build sandpits to encourage creative toddler play." In professional architecture, a confident modernism of curtain walling, air conditioning and prefabrication might have looked, on the surface, to have been counter to a cream-laden Pavlovian mentality, but there appears to be no shyness regarding construction innovation and technological advancement.

Abstract:
Concepts of death were examined in 114 children who comprised three age groups (5, 6–7, 8–9) and two cultural/religious backgrounds (northern Unitarian and southern Baptist). Children's understanding of death was examined for five animate objects (bear, baby, child's mother, experimentor, and the child her/himself) and four inanimate objects (airplane, rock, stuffed bear, and a car). The first step in analysis focused on children's understanding of three general death related concepts: irreversibility, universality, and inevitability. Significant cultural/religious background differences were found for all three concepts, while the effect of age was apparent only in the latter two concepts. The second step in analysis assessed the effect of age. object and background on children's understanding of the causation of death. Understanding of causation was shown to be significantly influenced by all three variables.

Abstract:
Today, the psychophysical development of children from an early age is of particular importance. Swimming is one of the ways to influence the harmonious development of children from an early age. Swimming affects the activation of the physiological systems of the body and improves the physical and moral qualities of the child, that is, has a psychophysiological effect. It is breaststroke swimming that helps to raise a child healthy and curious, these are long-known facts proving the expediency and benefits of swimming for babies. The purpose of the study was to characterize infant swimming as a way of early child development. Research methods: analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature. Analysis publications. Studies prove that baby swimming strengthens the baby's body, contributes to the harmonious development of children's reflexes and their transformation into conscious swimming movements. Pediatricians prove that swimming and the level of hemoglobin in the blood are also inextricably linked, since when swimming, breathing becomes difficult and an additional portion of red blood cells is released into the blood. A child who swims from a very early age develops muscle mass much faster. Such a baby gets up on its feet earlier and begins to walk, and a transformation of reflex movements occurs, which contributes to the early development of coordination. Conclusion. Early swimming of a child refers to developmental techniques that are aimed at expanding the child's comfort zone and making him feel equally free, strong and confident in any element. When immersed in water, the child begins to feel a number of new sensations and influences associated with the physical properties of the aquatic environment. Swimming for toddlers is based on their natural inclinations. The effect of swimming on sleep is noted - it becomes stronger, appetite improves, and the overall tone of the body increases. Movement improves, endurance increases, a pronounced hardening effect is observed.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper argues that the lack of distinction between human and nonhuman animals in the fantastic world of children's literature and film results in distorted representations of intelligence, capabilities, and morality of nonhuman animals. From the perspective of attachment theory, the paper shows how humans internalize and sustain misrepresentations throughout adulthood and how these misrepresentations influence relationships with real animals. An ongoing search for the ideal "Walt Disney dog" of childhood jeopardizes relationships to companion animals. Trying to recreate the fantasy dog by genetic manipulation of a real animal's characteristics results in needless distress for companion animals. Because the companion does not meet expectations engendered by childhood stories, normal dog behaviour—chewing, digging, and barking—may result in relinquishing the dog for adoption and subsequent euthanasia. Shifting to the scientific realm, the paper discusses the on-going debate on the study of animals' human-like abilities, most salient in ape language programs. In closing, the paper discusses the disservice done to real animals as illusions of childhood and subsequent misunderstandings leave them judged by impossible, anthrocentric standards—which they rarely can fulfill.

Abstract:
Reading Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, Tar Baby, Paradise and A Mercy through the lens of Bakhtin reveals identity construction as a dialogic endeavour. While this method may be necessary for character development, it serves the further purpose of making an ethical case for the self’s responsibility to others. This paper considers key theoretical instruments, as enabled by Bakhtin, in relation to Morrison’s treatment of naming and other character constructing elements. It is ultimately Morrison’s construction of identity as dialogical which enables the argument that Morrison’s fiction offers an ethics in the interest of the other. Writing about the marginalised, the abused and the voiceless reveals Morrison’s oeuvre is unmistakably an ongoing engagement with the injustice of slavery and its political, economic, social and psychological aftermath. The relevance of this article lies in its analysis of Morrison’s fiction as an antidote which challenges the self’s “self-interest”, which is at the heart of injustice. This study’s primary contribution is in articulating Morrison’s portrayal of the self’s identity construction as an inescapable dialogism that forms the foundation to a philosophy that promotes greater humaneness, given the other is not separate from the self, but in fact, integral to the self.

Abstract:
The initial process of self development involves interaction with others and the establishment of relationships taking different paths depending on the socio-cultural context. Self-recognition and self-regulation are considered manifestations of this development between 18 and 24 months of age. This study aimed at analyzing the relationship between these two aspects, maternal beliefs about autonomy and relatedness, as well as identifying differences between boys and girls in this developmental stage. Participants were 94 mothers of different educational levels and their children of 17-22 months of age in two Brazilian cities. Socialization Goals Inventory and Parental Practices in the First Year Inventory were used to collect data on mothers' beliefs. Children performed tasks related to self-recognition (the mirror test) and self-regulation (compliance to requests). The group of mothers studied valued both autonomy and interdependence. Children's responses are consistent with a perspective of relational autonomy, which value both independence and interdependence. Differences were found in relation to sex in both self-recognition and self-regulation, and baby girls showed superior performance than boys in both tasks.

The UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Health Technology Assessment (HTA) has commissioned the FiCTION (Filling Children's Teeth: Indicated Or Not?) trial; a multi-centre primary dental care randomised controlled trial (RCT) to determine the most clinically and cost-effective approach to managing caries in the primary dentition in the UK. This large trial began in 2012, is due to be completed in late 2017 and involves 72 practices and 1,124 children initially aged three to seven years with dentine caries, following randomisation to one of three caries management strategies. Clinical, radiographic, quality of life, treatment acceptability and health economics data are collected during the three-year follow up period. This article provides an overview of the development and conduct of FiCTION and discusses some approaches adopted to manage challenges and achieve the patient recruitment target.

Abstract:
Aim. The purpose of the research is to develop the technology of chopped semi-finished products for functional purposes. Materials and Methods. In the course of the study, recipes for model minced meat were developed using gluten-free vegetable raw materials: white beans, corn bran, rice flour. For the control sample, we took the developed classical recipe according to the TU 9214-243-37676459-2014 "Semi-finished products from poultry meat for baby food, chilled and frozen". All studies were carried out on the basis of the laboratory of the National Research University of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Volgograd State Technical University. Results. Recipes for gluten-free nuggets, which include rice flour, corn bran and white beans, have been developed. As a result of the conducted physico-chemical studies, in comparison with the control sample, a slight decrease in energy value was found due to a discrepancy in the values of the mass fraction of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, which in turn did not affect the organoleptic parameters, the consistency was observed more elastic in the experimental samples, the taste and color are pleasant, characteristic depending on the component composition. Conclusion. The use of gluten-free plant raw materials in the technology of chopped semi-finished products, namely nuggets, has a positive effect on the quality characteristics of the prototypes, which allows the use of these functional products in children's nutrition.

Abstract:
This paper aims to deconstruct Toni Morrison’s selected novels through the lenses of ecocriticism. It looks at her work from an ecocritical angle. Sula has traditionally been read as a story about female friendship ;Song of Solomon has been critically acclaimed for its vivid capture of African American cultural heritage ; Tar Baby is regarded as a masterpiece because of its high folkloric resonance ; Beloved is perceived as a survey of the horrors of slavery ; Paradise is regarded as the narrative of contemporary communities confronted with great social changes, while A Mercy is considered to be a story of black women slaves’ struggles to gain freedom in America in the 1600s. Historically, critics have attempted to perceive Morrison’s fiction from the socio-historical lens that has little to do with Nature. However, Nature serves as a background to Morrison's work. It not only serves as imagery but more of a living being that reacts to human exploitation. Morrison's selected novels highlight diverse aspects of this human versus nature relationship that deserves an in-depth analysis. In fact, these novels provide ample evidence that the author sees ecosensitivity and ecological consciousness as possible ways to curb environmental degradation. This paper posits the nonhuman world encoded in Morrison’s novels. It maintains that Morrison’s fiction could raise awareness about ecological wisdom which is key to understanding and solving the current environmental challenges.

Abstract:
Aim. This paper examines the translation of Vasyl Stefanyk’s short story «The Baby Watcher» (1921) into German. The purpose of the paper is to analyse the target text sentences’ syntactic structure in the remit of considering the equivalent and adequate rendering of the meaning of the original. Methods. In the furtherance of this purpose, we resorted to descriptive method (we identified the units of analysis in each individual sentence or its part under consideration), contrastive method (we compared the communicative and pragmatic correspondence of the translation to semantically equivalent units of the original) and the method of intent analysis (we determined the communicative intention of the speaker in free direct and indirect discourses). Results. Proceeding from the analysis of the lexical and stylistic features of the translation done by Alla Paslavska and Tobias Vogel, we argue that it renders the content of the original with appropriate / similar means, except when stylistically neutral target language lexemes are equivalent to the dialectally marked vocabulary of the source language. Originality. The paper is the first attempt for a syntactic analysis of the short story «The Baby Watcher», focusing on the pragmatic correspondence of the texts being compared. Practical significance. The findings of the study will serve to those involved in the synchronic-comparative study of language systems, the study of the Ukrainian writer’s signature world-view for the purposes of producing fiction translation, as well as at the decision of linguistic pragmatics applied tasks.

Abstract:
The Children's Hospital at Providence (TCHaP) is a hospital within a hospital, in the heart of Alaska's biggest city, Anchorage. TCHaP admits up to 60 extremely low birth weight (ELBW) neonates per year. The ELBW population, although small in number, contributes disproportionately to rates of death or serious morbidities. Nationally, ELBW is defined as a neonate born at a gestational age between 22 and 29 weeks. In 2014, only 38 percent of neonates born in Alaska <28 weeks survived without experiencing major morbidities. For those born <26 weeks, morbidity-free survival dropped to 25 percent. Discussions were held among NICU nursing leaders, clinical nurses, and physicians about current co-morbidities and potentially best practices to improve outcomes. Subsequently, the group decided to develop best practices for managing the care of the ELBW, which started by organizing a group of specialists. This group at TCHaP is called the Wee CARE team.

ABSTRACTThis paper seeks to account for a culturally patterned set of analogic renamings found in Huli baby talk, nursery rhymes and children's verbal games. These socialization activities evidence a marked concern with body motifs and appellations. In accordance with ethnographic paradigms of explanation, the frame of reference is broadened to include consideration of inter-adult behaviour involving ‘talk about the body’ to assess what is being learnt from such interactions as well as what communicative intents are encoded. The argument is developed that in addition to the significance of these play routines in sensitizing the child to cultural rules about speaking, these ludic forms also appear implicated in both an evolutionary and logico-operational sense in the conventional anatomical nomenclature.

The invitation to this symposium refers to "the baby boom, which "boosted the market for children's toys."" This paper explores the extent to which the toys of that era in New Zealand could be seen to have actively promoted and encouraged Modernist architecture. The particular focus will be on toy trains and model railways and how their manufacturers, both off-shore and local, produced model railway buildings that were decidedly Modern in form and quite unlike the largely nineteenth-century buildings seen by the majority of travellers on New Zealand Railways. This paper argues that 1950s New Zealand was an outpost of non-Modernism when it comes to railway buildings, both full size and toys. By tracing the history of model railways and how they engaged with Modern design it posits that the only OO scale model railway buildings that were mass produced in New Zealand were traditional in form, although made of plastic, the quintessentially modern material.

We were successful in raising occupational health and safety questions because we had credible scientists on our side. Through the association with Barry, we changed the face of the workplace and thousands of people are alive today because we helped pass the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act. BPA Production and Associated Health Risks Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical agent found in many everyday products, including canned goods and plastic food containers. BPA exposure is linked to a variety of adverse health effects, such as obesity and diabetes. To protect the public's health — especially the health of vulnerable fetuses, infants, children, and pregnant women — BPA regulations should encompass products intended specifically for these populations. Even with tremendous public outcry against the use of BPA, current federal restrictions do not reach far enough. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently banned the use of BPA in children's sippy cups and baby bottles, but failed to address its inclusion in canned infant formula or plastic tableware.BPA production began in the 1950s to make epoxy resins and was later employed to create polycarbonate plastic products.

Abstract:
Health inequalities and the subsequent negative long-term impact on children's health are prevalent in the UK. One way to try to reduce these inequalities is through educating families and health visitors are at the fore in being able to support this. A survey was carried out to identify what information local parents would like to receive at the face-to-face new birth visit by the health visitor; in what format they would prefer to receive it; and how often they would like to receive it. An online survey was designed and distributed to parents to obtain the answers to these questions. The survey results showed that parents would primarily like to receive information on caring for their baby and on postnatal depression. It is concluded that health visitors can support the goal of reducing health inequalities by providing parents with relevant information in an accessible format and that this can be reiterated at core contacts.

Abstract:
The current study addressed the role of different social contexts in theory of mind development, specifically whether the structure of the theory of mind indicators in the group of institutionalized children was different from the structure of indicators in the group of children from biological families. The relevant to the theory of mind items of the personal-social scale of the Battelle Developmental Inventory (Newborg et al., 1988) provided by expert assessors in communication with primary caregivers were used to assess young children reared in so-cially-emotionally depriving institutional environment (n = 50; M = 2.18, SD = 0.92 years) and in biological families (n = 50; M = 2.37, SD = 0.92 years). Results suggested between-group differences in the factor structure for the theory of mind indicators. The first factor for rating of children from families reflected competent understanding of the close adult, selfunderstanding, and understanding of peers and feelings towards them, while there was no such combination found in factors for rating of institutionalized children. The findings are discussed in relation to the research data how social environment shapes understanding of mental states by children. Results suggest significant difficulties in the complex and competent theory of mind formation in institutional socio-emotional environment, and emphasize the need of the training plus structural changes intervention program aimed to improve the sensitivity and consistency of primary caregiving environment for young institutionalized children. The findings indicate that information from primary caregivers might be used to study the theory of mind in children, and that the factor structure of the theory of mind indicators reflects the specificity of children's social-emotional environment.

Abstract:
By the beginning of World War I, a separate culture of girlhood had taken shape in Britain. “Girlhood” had its own interests, values, and (perhaps) ethics; its own language, customs, and literature. Fifty years earlier, when publishers first began to identify readers in a category which they differentiated from the adult audience on the one hand and the general children's audience on the other, they were not quite sure who girls were and what they might be interested in. Publishers' advertisements used terms such as “the girl from 8 to 18” and “those who have left the schoolroom but not yet entered society.” The earliest girls' magazines, which appeared in the last quarter of the century, opened their readers' contribution pages to “girls” up to the age of twenty-five. Mid-nineteenth-century fiction about girls generally emphasized home life and home duties, but by 1900 many books dwelt on the values and interactions of girls themselves, with hardly any mention of adults. As a first step in discussing the creation of girlhood – and the values, attitudes, and understandings which this creation encoded – the case of L.T. Meade is instructive.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to interpretation a figure of explicit reader in Vladimir Korolenko’s “Story of my Contemporary” (chapter “My first Acquaintance with Dickens”). Short story moderated the trajectory of reading at distinguishing between narrative and perception modes. Representing the world of the Zhytomyr province, the writer shows reading as a specific activity that is part of the daily routine for inhabitants. The story of reading a little hero – from the “colorful” and “spicy” reading adventurous and detective novels to meaningful reading of Dickens’ book – demonstrates specific changes in the psychology of the little hero (from Oliver Twist to David Copperfield). A specific feature of this text is the reflection of the young reader on everything what is happening in the book in particular and on the nature of one’s own reading in general. At the beginning of the story, the main feature of the reading of the hero is noted, his abruptness, episodic, covering only the surface of the plot. Central motive of the struggle of two brothers, having as a biographical and mythopoetic sense. That is closely connected with a qualitative transformation Reader becoming a Writer. In addition, the older brother was an authority for the youngest, including in reading, therefore, in addition to the “episodicity” of reading, it was also secondary and in his perception of certain works the young the reader relied on the experience of his older brother, who does not mark the image of the ideal the reader, dividing everything into so-called κῶμος and τράγεος. Despite the fact that the main character is experiencing the text of Dickens as Revelation, experience reading his novel practically did not differ from previous reading experience. So the novel was without a name, also remained an unread hero and was not even understood by him until the end. And it is the figure of the elder brother-authority that changes the main trajectory “Anonymity” of children's reading, the first time calling the last name of the writer Dickens. In conclusion hypothesis about the specific metatext character of the fragment under consideration is presented. That allows to consider it as an auto-commentary on other works of the author, in particular, his story “In a Bad Society”.

Abstract:
The article first gives a general view of children reading of fiction in Siberia and the Far East. The relevance of studying children reading is determined by its great social and pedagogical potential. The study objectives are: 1) to identify popular children genres of literature; 2) to recreate the repertoire of favorite authors and their works; 3) to compare the range of reading of Siberian and Far Eastern young people with the reading of their age mates from other regions of the country; 4) to identify main factors forming readers demand of the younger generation. The study has shown that fairy tales, fantasy, detectives, adventures, historic and love stories are the most popular among children. National and foreign writers of the XIX - early XXI centuries are called among the children's favorite authors: A. Barto, M. Bulgakov, A. Volkov, A. Green, A. Dumas, A. Ishimova, A. Lindgren, S. Marshak, A. Milne, N. Nosov, A. Pushkin, M. Reed, M. Twain, L. Charskaya, E. Uspensky and many others. The comparison was made between reading literature by children from Transurals and the European part of Russia. Similarity in the repertoire of reading, favorite genres and authors is proved. Selection of literary works is determined by children personal interests and the curriculum content. Therefore, reading fiction is both leisure and business. Reading fiction on the pupils’ personal choice is usually considered as leisure. Reading literature for educational purposes is related to business. The article pays attention to the difficulty of separating leisure reading from business one when it concerns reading fiction by students. Growing readers’ interest in picturized literary works is marked. This article was written on a wide range of sources and research literature.

Abstract:
This research seeks to discuss how child characters navigate their interactions with the adults in two short stories set in the predominantly Islamic society of Sudan and Indonesia. It examines Tayeb Salih’s “A Handful of Dates” (1964) and Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s “Circumcision” (1950) by locating both texts in World Literature which is largely Western or Eurocentric. Both short stories belong to the genre of initiation fiction often included in world literature anthologies. This paper argues that both authors help contribute to not only the rethinking of World Literature concept and circulation thereof, but also balanced view of heterogonous, multicultural Muslim society. Using post-Genette focalization theory as conceptual framework, this study finds out that the child narrators play distinct roles as (1) the perceptual focalizer to reveal injustice and frivolity of the adults’ world; (2) the ideological focalizer to make meaning of children’s faith through their relationship with the grown-ups.

Abstract:
Background: Infant nutrition is a topic of constant debate between parents and doctors. The recommendations themselves have been modified several times over the past 6 decades. Baby Led Weaning (BLW) method is gaining more and more popularity in infant nutrition during the period of expanding the infant menu. The main aim of the study was to evaluate selected aspects of dietary expansion in a group of their children, taking into account dietary expansion with the use of the traditional method and the BLW method. Material and method: An exploratory cross-sectional study was conducted in December 2021-January 2022 among a randomly selected sample of 523 mothers of children in infancy aged up to 12 months. Data for the study were collected anonymously using the CAWI method. The information collected from 500 women was considered for the final data analysis taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: 66.6% of the women surveyed (N=333) stated that their child is or was fed breast milk during the first six months. The child's diet was most often expanded with complementary meals after 6 months of age. This answer was indicated by 58.8% of respondents (N=294). 85.6% of the surveyed women (N=428) first introduced or intend to introduce vegetables to their diet. 13% of the respondents (N=65) introduced or planned to introduce vegetables and fruit at the same time. In the studied group of mothers the BLW method was not known or not used by 7 mothers (1.4%), 343 mothers used or intended to use the BLW method (68.6%), whereas 150 women knew the BLW method (30.0%), but did not use it or did not intend to use it during the expansion of their child's diet. Conclusions: The majority of mothers surveyed used the BLW method during the expansion of their children's diet, accepting the principle that it is the child who decides whether and how much to eat, and the parent who decides what and when the child eats.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the English-Russian translation of fairy tales from the perspective of transparency and mirroring. The goal of this research is to determine the strategy for literary translation of the English fairy tales. Linguostylistic and comparative analysis is conducted on B. Zakhoder's translations of such fairy tales as “Alice in Wonderland” by L. Carroll, “Winnie the Pooh and All, All, All” by A. Milne, and “Mary Poppins” by P. Travers. The modern theory of translation largely focuses on the various aspects of equivalence and adequacy of the original and translated texts; describes the requirements for the quality of translation, including literary translation. Russian and foreign researchers show heightened attention to the concepts of transparency and mirroring in translation, namely literary translation of children's literature substantiated by the specificity of the target audience. The scientific novelty consists in application of the modern postulates of the theory of translation to children's literature, which broadens knowledge in this scientific field. The main conclusion lies in following the theory of translation transparency for the child reader in translation of children's literature. As a result of the analysis of B. Zakhoder’s translations of fairy tales by L. Carroll, A. Milne, and P. Travers into the Russian language, it is noted that they reflect the general patterns of translation children's fiction, take into account psychological characteristics of the audience, text is adapted to be comprehensible for children, considerable attention is given to the emotional component, expressiveness, and humor. Although B. Zakhoder’s translations are not the full interpretation, he follows the theory of transparency. Imaginative interpretation of the text demonstrates the specificity of translator’s individual style.

Abstract:
Identity formation, questions of identity, shifting identities, perceived deviant identities, and reactions (social, political, cultural, individual) to them are the stuff of Bildungsroman as well as more “experimental” subgenres of long-form fiction. For minority/minoritized subjects and authors, questions of identity take on a different pallor: their work is expected to engage with questions of identity according to either or both how their subject position confronts marginalization and otherness, and how their subject position conditions every experience they have in the world, both inside and outside community. This inquiry investigates how contemporary transgender minor literature constructs dis/identity through authenticity. Imogen Binnie speculates in her 2013 novel Nevada on the concept of “Really, Truly Trans”, a cipher for identity policing and presumptions of sex–gender authenticity, based on cisnormative characteristics and, occasionally, inter-community phobias and proscriptions. More recently, Torrey Peters challenges measures of trans authenticity through both her titular detransitioner and his former partner in Detransition, Baby. Trans minor literature is an ideal testing ground for phobic public presumptions around “authentic” sex–gender and anti-identitarian strategies of those who are forced to confront purity tests and exclusion or suppression on grounds of authenticity, and each novel presses at phobic majoritarian dictates of authenticity and its presupposed value.

TERRY, JENNIFER. "“Breathing the Air of a World So New”: Rewriting the Landscape of America in Toni Morrison's A Mercy." Journal of American Studies 48, no. 1 (April 10, 2013): 127–45. http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/s0021875813000686.

Abstract:
This article explores Toni Morrison's preoccupation with, and reimagining of, the landscape of the so-called New World. Drawing on scholarship that has investigated dominant discourses about freedom, bounty, and possibility located within the Americas, it identifies various counternarratives in Morrison's fiction, tracing these through the earlier Song of Solomon (1977), Tar Baby (1981), and Beloved (1987), but primarily arguing for their centrality to A Mercy (2008). The mapping of seventeenth-century North America in the author's ninth novel both exposes colonial relations to place and probes African American experiences of the natural world. In particular, A Mercy is found to recalibrate definitions of “wilderness” with a sharpened sensitivity to the position of women and the racially othered within them. The dynamic between the perspectives towards the environment of Anglo-Dutch farmer and trader Jacob Vaark and Native American orphan and servant Lina, is examined, as well as the slave girl Florens's formative encounters in American space. Bringing together diverse narrative views, A Mercy is shown to trouble hegemonic settler and masculinist notions of the New World and, especially through Florens's voicing, shape an alternative engagement with landscape. The article goes some way towards meeting recent calls for attention to the intersections between postcolonial approaches and ecocriticism.

Abstract:
The following study provides an overview of accidental childhood death. This study is based on a review of 369 cases of fatal childhood accidents taken from the records of the Department of Histopathology, Women's and Children's Hospital, Adelaide, Australia, over a 34-year period from 1963 to 1996. Data provide information on deaths due to motor vehicle accidents, drownings, accidental asphyxia, burns, poisonings, electrocution, and miscellaneous trauma. In addition, certain categories have undergone further examination, including asphyxial deaths due to unsafe sleeping environments and unsafe eating practices, drowning deaths, and deaths on farms, following identification of significant child safety problems in these areas as part of the “Keeping Your Baby and Child Safe” program. Previously unrecognized dangers to children detected through this program include mesh-sided cots, V-shaped pillows, and certain types of stroller-prams. The production of information pamphlets and packages for parents and the recall of certain dangerous products following recommendations made by pathologists demonstrate that pediatric and forensic pathologists have an important role to play in preventive medicine issues and in formulating public health strategies.

Abstract:
The question of alienation has always been a pervasive theme in the history of modern thought, and it occupies a considerable place in contemporary work. Literature in general, and fiction in particular, raise this issue to reveal its influence on human beings and communities. Novelists have been trying to unravel its complexities and concomitant consequences. The paper aims to explore the experience of alienation through depicting the issue not as a purely racial reality, or something restricted to the colour of the skin or gender of the victim. It is rather presented as a distressing state which cripples the victims and makes them susceptible captives of the dominant forces. In the selected novels, Toni Morrison has delved deep into the experience of alienation through her male and female characters, showing the different forms of this experience. The present research investigates Morrison’s portrayal of the issue from an African-American prospect. References will be made to novels such as Tar Baby, Sula, The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, and Beloved.

Abstract:
Education Batam City has an education that follows the development of the current era. Because the city of Batam itself is very close to neighboring countries, namely Singapore and Malaysia. As reported from the online electronic media Kompas newspaper on January 17, 2017, as a parent, of course you also don't want to look for a school for your baby. The reason is, choosing the right school, especially kindergarten (TK) and elementary school (SD), is a "long-term investment" for the future of children. Having a child who will enter a higher school, from the kindergarten (TK) period, of course, must choose an elementary school (SD) which can be said to have good quality besides that it can be seen in the results of those who have graduated from the elementary school. Because in the modern era, children must be introduced to the international language from an early age but not abandon the national language, Sultan Agung School puts the concept of the National Plus School in front. The consideration that can be taken for parents is choosing a public or private elementary school with different concepts and advantages, of course, it is enough to think carefully, so as not to make the wrong choice. In general, the new alternative schools offer the same concept, namely promoting children's verbal abilities and honing children's creativity. As a parent, of course, you will look for information on the meaning of the national plus school understanding. The concept taken with the national plus is that the school prioritizes all students being able to use the Indonesian language and is equipped with the help of an international language, namely English.

Abstract:
Aim. To assess the impact of the number of children in the family on breastfeeding duration and vaccination coverage. Methods. 1724 mothers of 1-year old children were randomly chosen from seven children's polyclinics in St. Petersburg for an anonymous survey that was conducted by a specially designed form Questionnaire of a mother of 1-year old children. The questionnaire comprised of 20 open-ended and closed-ended questions, and included questions about: (1) timing of the attachment to the breast in obstetric hospitals; (2) causes and timing of breastfeeding abandonment; (3) presence or absence of vaccinations in the first year of life according to the National preventive vaccination schedule; (4) and reasons for mothers refusing to vaccinate their children. Results. The proportion of mothers who started artificial feeding in maternity wards immediately after the birth of the baby was the smallest among women for whom this baby was the first-born (3.4%), and the largest among families with many children (11.3%). On average, mothers with one child are breastfed until 7.360.11 months, with two children until 8.290.11 months, with three or more children until 8.780.10 months. By using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), it was shown the effect of the number of children in the family on the duration of breastfeeding (F=3.3). Correlation analysis revealed the negative relationship of the number of children in the family with the proportion of women who continued breastfeeding until 3 and 6 months (rxy=0.82 and rxy=0.88, respectively), and positive relationship with the proportion of mothers who continued to breastfeeding the baby after reaching a year (rxy=0.89). 12.3% of children of one-child families were not vaccinated according to the National preventive vaccination schedule, 17.7% with two-child families, 28.1% in families with three or more children. It was revealed the significant cross-group effect of the number of children in the family to vaccination coverage (F=48.7). With an increase in the number of children in the family, vaccination coverage decreases, both in general (rxy=0.88) and against individual infections, including hepatitis B, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, measles and rubella (rxy from 0.80 to 0.90). Conclusion. The number of children in a family impacts mothers' refusals of breastfeeding and vaccination; the more children in a family, the more prolonged breastfeeding, but less vaccination coverage due to the health status of children in the first year of life.
