Abstract:
AbstractIn the early twentieth century, encyclopedias addressed to children and youths became special reference works concerning science and technology education. In search of greater comprehension of this historical process, I analyse The Children's Encyclopedia’s representation of science and technology, and how it was re-edited by the North American publishing company that bought its copyrights and promoted its circulation in several countries. Furthermore, I examine how its contents were appropriated in its translations into Portuguese and Spanish, which circulated in Latin America in the first half of the twentieth century. The comparison between the different versions reveals that the writings of science and technology are practically the same, with significant changes only in literature and in the approach of historical and geographical themes. I then argue that, even keeping the scientific contents virtually unchanged, these versions of the encyclopedia gave it a new meaning, because of the contexts in which they circulated. Finally, I show how the appropriations of the encyclopedia contributed to the promotion of scientific values and technological innovation as the core development and as a model of civilization for South American nations.

Abstract:
Wikipedia is the largest web-based digital encyclopedia today that contains almost all knowledge in general. On Wikipedia many readers have difficulty finding accurate information about the topic they are looking for, as content on Wikipedia usually contains only an overview of the topic referenced from some existing references. This study aims to examine Wikipedia, other encyclopedias and other online media that contain specific topics with their target users. The study was conducted on literature related to Wikipedia, encyclopedias, education and children's interests, especially at the elementary school level. Literature search is done by including some of the main keywords in Google Scholar such as "Wikipedia", "encyclopedia", "elementary school curriculum", "educational content" and "learning media". Literature is also obtained through the official website of the Ministry of Education and Culture which contains elementary and junior high school education standards, educational assessment standards, and literacy and numeration learning modules at elementary level. The results of literature analysis include 4 classifications based on topics, namely evaluation of usage, content, online learning and media. Based on the results of the analysis found that there has not been much research on the digital encyclopedia for education.

Abstract:
Asthma is characterized by recurrent episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. It is usually caused by a combination of complex and incompletely understood environmental and genetic interactions. We obtained gene expression data with high-throughput screening and identified biomarkers of children's asthma using bioinformatics tools. Next, we explained the pathogenesis of children's asthma from the perspective of gene regulatory networks: DAVID was applied to perform Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enriching analysis for the top 3000 pairs of relationships in differentially regulatory network. Finally, we found that HAND1, PTK1, NFKB1, ZIC3, STAT6, E2F1, PELP1, USF2, and CBFB may play important roles in children's asthma initiation. On account of regulatory impact factor (RIF) score, HAND1, PTK7, and ZIC3 were the potential asthma-related factors. Our study provided some foundations of a strategy for biomarker discovery despite a poor understanding of the mechanisms underlying children's asthma.

Abstract:
碩士
臺北市立教育大學
中國語文學系碩士班
95
The children’s encyclopedia comprises all kinds of main knowledge in need for children. The structure of children’s encyclopedia and the explanations in it associated with the course in class deeply could help and complement the school education. Although the knowledge increases dramatically in these days, not only the course in class is insufficiently, but also absorbing knowledge passively by students is also inefficiently. But the encyclopedia written specifically intended for children can enlarge the horizon of knowledge to students and let students taking lessons in self- and active-learning. At present, the representative encyclopedia written specifically intended for children published in Taiwan and China is “The Chinese Children’s Encyclopedia” and “The China Children’s Encyclopedia” respectively. Each of these has its own characteristic, recommendation or deficiency, and both could be the foundation of compiling the Chinese encyclopedia written specifically intended for children. This thesis is made up of six chapters as below: chapter 1, introduction, includes the motive, objective, ideation, research scope and approach of this study in overview, chapter 2, literature studying, includes the study on the literature related to encyclopedia issued in Taiwan and China, chapter 3, theory basic, includes the history, definition, character, category and function of encyclopedia, which can also help us recognize and develop the advantages of encyclopedia, chapter 4, the clauses and subsidiaries, includes the definition, category, structure and other subjects related to the clauses and subsidiaries of encyclopedia, chapter 5, compiling process, includes detailed description about the six phases of compiling process of encyclopedia, such as overall design, writing, examination, editing, assembly and proofing of the encyclopedia, and also includes detailed description of the amending process of the encyclopedia in the end of this chapter, and chapter 6, conclusion, by comparing “The Chinese Children’s Encyclopedia” with “The China Children’s Encyclopedia” issued in Taiwan and China respectively, following the study on the compilation method of children’s encyclopedia mentioned above, we generalize an ideal compilation method of Chinese encyclopedia for children.

Abstract:
By engaging in art making and analytic activities I seek to answer the question: How can collage be used to examine, critique and interrupt the meaning of images and objects in individual visual and material culture experiences? Through the use of arts-based research methods and auto-ethnographic inquiry, I show that intellectual insights can be garnered through reflective art production and that this production is a form of inquiry and critique, particularly useful when examining individual encounters with visual and material culture. This method is essential in helping to answer the research question; engaging in art production using personal visual and material culture artifacts (children's pictorial encyclopedias) helps me connect with these objects in a way different from my initial childhood interactions and from my adult viewing and allows me to recognize recurring themes, which are utilized in the analytic process.

Abstract:
Developed within the scope of Supervised Teaching Practice, this study presents the work developed in the context of Preschool Education and in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, aiming at the development of skills in understanding and using informative texts. In the context of this text typology, we have chosen to focus the intervention on addressing the text genre of encyclopedias for childhood and youth, with special empirical focus on pre-schoolers. The finding of a significant collection of theoretical references, referring to the advantages of proposing pedagogical activities to pre-readers and initial readers based on these texts, led to the choice of the theme. In both educational scenarios, it was possible to identify difficulties in the recognition of the functionalities as well as the characteristic aspects of informative books, in particular, encyclopedias, which allows them to be distinguished from other text genres. Thus, although restricted, some activities were performed in the 1st Cycle, in order to explicitly explore the structure of encyclopedias and how they can and / or should be used by the reader. In kindergarten, children's apparent disinterest in reading dictated that, in addition to a set of activities around informational books, action would also involve the exploration of literary texts. The methodology used for data collection took into account the instruments and principles of Action Research.

This work is devoted to the Russian language. In the article, the author speaks about the importance of dictionaries, reference books and encyclopedias. The relevance of the research is caused by the fact that children in the modern world pay insufficient attention to reading, as well as by the fact that modern technologies are replacing the usual paper versions of books, and electronic copies are replacing them.
