Abstract:
Forty nine public school mental health practitioners (i.e., school counselors, school psychologists, and school social workers) completed a survey about working with dreams when counseling students. Most practitioners in this sample reported having at least one student bring up dreams during counseling and spent some time in counseling working with students' dreams. Practitioners addressed dreams more frequently in situations where the student was having troubling dreams or nightmares, and/or was dealing with death and grief. They also acknowledged working with dreams with students who were diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, were emotionally disturbed, suffered from recurrent dreams, were depressed, and had learning disabilities. This study shows that practitioners were less likely to talk about dreams with students who had adjustment disorders, psychosis, were oppositional or ill, struggled with substance abuse problems, or had eating disorders. Furthermore, most practitioners indicated receiving no training and did not feel competent to work with children's dreams. However, most surveyed practitioners were interested in learning more about dreams in general.

Galinsky, Jayne. "A grounded theory study of dream fulfilment in children and young people with life-threatening and long-term conditions and their families." Thesis, University of Stirling, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/23180.

Abstract:
Background: This thesis examines the impact of dream or wish fulfilment on seriously ill children and their families. Dream or wish fulfilment is operationalised as the actualisation of a seriously ill child’s wish by a charity that provides desired experiences. Anecdotal reports suggest that the experience of having a dream or a wish fulfilled can provide seriously ill children and their families with a sense of hope and time away from illness. However, little empirical research has been conducted in this area. This thesis reports the impact of dream fulfilment on the psychosocial well-being of ill children and their families. The research questions are: what is the experience of having a dream fulfilled for the child? What is the impact of dream fulfilment on the family? Methods: A constructivist grounded theory methodology was adopted, using theoretical sampling to recruit families from across the UK. Twenty-one families were interviewed, including 15 dream recipients, 8 siblings, and 24 parents. Analysis followed the grounded theory methodology of simultaneous data collection and development of theory, resulting in analytic interpretations of participants’ worlds. Results and Conclusions: This thesis reports for the first time a theory and accompanying theoretical model, that explain the impact of dream fulfilment on families’ lives. The generated theory suggests that dream fulfilment was conceptualised as an alternative milestone in seriously ill children and their families’ lives. Additionally, the dream experience shifted perceptions of illness by providing instances and experiences where illness did not underscore family life. Findings additionally suggest that the dream fulfilment process provided families with ill children, who often felt excluded and stigmatised from services, with a period of much needed support. Findings also highlight the unintended negative consequences of dream fulfilment. Implications for Dreams Come True, and other dream and wish fulfilment organisations are discussed.

Greenfield, Julianne. "Consuming passions in the court of faded dreams: 'high conflict' in children's cases in the Family Court of Australia." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/20353.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the construct of 'high conflict' as it is currently applied to children's cases in the Family Court. Underpinned primarily by psychological understandings of separation and post-separation conflict, notions of 'high conflict' have been the dominant framework used to understand and work with difficult cases involving parenting after separation in the Family Court of Australia. However, from a social work perspective, many 'lenses' were available with which to view post-separation conflict: the social, the legal, the psychological and the overlapping categories of the socio-legal and the psycho-social. These have been used to critically interrogate the concept of 'high conflict'. This mixed methods study was designed to investigate whether 'high conflict' can be predicted, so that these cases may be able to be more effectively managed by the Family Court. Consistent with a mixed methods approach, the research has moved through various phases. Firstly a large group (one-hundred-and-sixty) of parent litigants in children's cases was selected and surveyed, and the legal matter tracked through the Court in order to ascertain the ease or difficulty of settlement. Matters that took over twelve months to settle were designated 'high conflict'. The 'high conflict' litigants were compared with litigants whose matters settled relatively quickly, on a large number of variables collected from the survey, to see if they differed in significant ways from each other. Secondly all litigants in the cohort were interviewed about their settlement behaviour to see if there were differences between 'settlers' and 'non-settlers' in their understandings of the settlement (or lack of it) which might provide insights into 'high conflict'. Thirdly, a sub-sample often litigants whose cases were marked by long duration or marked intensity were interviewed in-depth to explore their post-separation experiences including litigation. The interviews were analysed thematically to see if common themes, understandings or meanings emerged. Finally, a sub-sample of cases for which both parents had responded to the survey was analysed, using some of the variables of interest which had emerged from the previous investigations. The distinguishing feature of this latter investigation was that data from both parties was available. From the large body of data which was generated, the following findings were made: In relation to the initial survey data, which was analysed quantitatively to yield correlates of cases that took over twelve months to settle, knowing these correlates was of little assistance for prediction. The follow-up in-depth data from the large sample of parent litigants proved to have explanatory value but not predictive value. Some common themes and meanings emerged from the experiences of individuals in the small sample who were interviewed in depth, accentuating the complexity of the phenomenon being studied. The predictive capacity of these themes was evaluated and critiqued. The data from the parent-dyads was found to have explanatory value and arguably some predictive value, but above all highlighted the complexity of post-separation disputes about children. This research has demonstrated the problematic nature of the construct of 'high conflict'. The ultimate conclusion, that one must move beyond categorical and dichotomous ways of thinking when researching this field, is a somewhat surprising and radical one, which issues its own challenge to researchers and practitioners in this field.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to understand how a children's village in Israel is working to secure children's basic needs. Studies of the Israeli case give increased knowledge about children's villages as out–of–home care. Through a case study, material in the form of interviews and observations has been collected. The study has an ethnographic approach and is based on the result from five semi–structured interviews with a social worker, a children's group leader, teachers and a contact person for the children's village. The material is also based on the authors' observations. The result shows that there are different approaches to secure children's basic needs in a children's village, that every profession has an important role in each method and that stability is the most important need for a child regardless of the form of care. The result also shows that a children's village in relation to other intervention is a quick way to secure children's needs in terms of housing, food and education.

Gartner, Yvonne. "Immature recall ability in dream reporting with children aged 3-5." Master's thesis, University of Cape Town, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/13455.

Full text
Abstract:
The content of dreams of children aged between three and five years old has been the topic of ongoing debate in past dream research. The bulk of this research was conducted by Foulkes (1982, 1999), who concluded that children of this age group experience impoverished dreams with little emotional content, an absence of active self-participation, and a lack of kinematic imagery (i.e., mental representations of movement, activities and interactions). These conclusions were based on the brief and mundane dream reports provided by children during his 1982 longitudinal laboratory study. However, Foulkes’ research did not test the children’s memory skills and ability to narrate an event, and did not compare these to the dream reports the children produced. The importance of memory skills and narrative ability as potential confounds when studying children’s dreams has been postulated in existing literature. In view of the findings of past studies on young children’s dreams and their cognitive capacity for dreaming, the present study re-examined the quantitative and qualitative features of dream reports of children aged three to five years old. The present study included parameters of testing memory skills and narrative ability to analyse whether these confound the dream report findings, and if so, whether one can draw any firm conclusions about dreams based on a dream report provided by the children.

Abstract:

This study of children's dreams used a mixed method to examine the dreams of 32 English-speaking children, ages 6-12 from the San Francisco Bay Area. The primary purpose of this research was to investigate dreams identified by the children as significant or meaningful, explore children's interpretations and meaning making, and to find if there was support for the hypothesis that some dreams might be connected to children's spiritual awareness, or influenced by their spirituality, beliefs, and practices, areas that have had little attention in previous dream research. Using a semi-structured interview protocol, participants were asked to tell the dream while drawing a picture of the dream. Major dream themes were identified, and the resulting dream data were correlated to participants' spiritual awareness, as measured by the Feeling Good, Living Life instrument (FGLL), specifically designed to measure spiritual health in children, and the Practice and Beliefs Scale for Children (PBSC) a 10-item instrument designed to assess connections between spirituality and religiosity. The FGLL was developed to measure four domains of spiritual well-being: Personal, Communal, Environmental, and Transcendental. The PBSC used a sentence-completion format to reflect the individual's language and assessed children's belief in the God of their definition as well as the importance and the role of the child's spiritual beliefs in coping in everyday life. Findings from the qualitative and quantitative results showed evidence of children's spiritual awareness in all domains, reflected their spirituality in the areas of awareness-sensing, value-sensing, and mystery-sensing, and found correlations between some of the dreams, meaning making, and their spiritual understanding. Implications are noted for therapists, spiritual directors, researchers, parents, and other adults who work with children regarding the benefits and challenges of dream work with children in this age group as a way of recognizing and nurturing their spirituality.

Abstract:
Thesis (BTech (Fashion Design))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2010
Children with autism experience fine motor difficulties that affect their ability to perform daily tasks. The purpose of this research study was to help improve these fine motor difficulties by teaching the child a specific skill which is to be able to dress oneself. The information gathered through the data gathering techniques described in this study, proved important in creating the practical component of this research study. It included a practical and functional children's wear range with a corresponding interactive Leam-To-Dress storybook. The findings of this study suggest that there is a need for the acquisition of the important life skill, to be able to dress oneself. This was made possible with the use of the interactive Leam-To-Dress. storybook with its' corresponding outfit

Warpas, Katarzyna Bogusława. "Designing for dream spaces : exploring digitally enhanced space for children's engagement with museum objects." Thesis, University of Wolverhampton, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/2436/304817.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents an investigation into the potential of digitally enhanced exhibition spaces to foster the engagement of children within family groups with museum objects on display, i.e. where physical contact is prohibited. The main focus is on the influence of digital enhancement on visitors’ engagement with artefacts and not on the digital elements themselves. This study has taken the mixed methods approach. It combines ethnographicallyinformed field studies with a design intervention within an overarching methodology of action research. In the review of literature, research from multiple fields including museum studies, interaction design and play research was brought together and examined from the perspective of exhibition design. This led to the development of the Social Dream Spaces Model. This model, which describes how visitors engage with museum objects, was used as the basis for a design intervention aimed at enhancing children’s engagement with exhibited artefacts. In-gallery participant observations were carried out in Bantock House Museum, Wolverhampton. Insights, based on data analysed from the perspective of the Social Dream Spaces Model, were used to develop a prototype of a digitally enhanced space, which was implemented into the existing exhibition. Data gathered in observations before and after the design intervention were compared in order to determine any changes in visitors’ responses to the exhibition. This study demonstrates the benefit of using the Social Dream Spaces Model for designing digitally enhanced exhibition spaces that promote children’s engagement with artefacts and social contact around them. The findings also confirm that designing subtle and nonintrusive digital enhancement can facilitate intergenerational interaction in exhibition spaces.

Koo, Yilmin. "Framing the DREAM Act: An Analysis of Congressional Speeches." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2018. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1157597/.

Full text
Abstract:
Initially proposed in 2001, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) continues to be relevant after nearly 20 years of debate. The year 2010 was significant because there seemed to be some possibility of passage. This study investigated the ways in which the DREAM Act discourse was framed that year by supporters and opponents. Selected Congressional speeches of three supporters and three opponents were analyzed using the approach to frame analysis developed by Schön and Rein. Accordingly, attention went to each individual's metacultural frame (i.e., culturally shared beliefs), policy frame (i.e., identification of problem and presentation of possible solution), and rhetorical frame (i.e., means of persuading the audience). Attention also went to the shared framing among supporters and the shared framing among opponents as well as differences in framing across the two groups. Although speakers varied in framing the issue, there were commonalities within groups and contrasts between groups. For supporters, the metacultural frame emphasized equity/equal opportunity, fairness, and rule of law; for opponents, the metacultural frame stressed rule of law, patriotism, and national security. For supporters, the policy frame underscored unfairness as the problem and the DREAM Act as the solution; for opponents, the policy frame emphasized the DREAM Act as the problem and defeating the DREAM Act as the solution. Rhetorical frames also differed, with the supporters making much use of testimonial examples and the opponents making much use of hyperbole. The study illustrates (1) how the same named values and beliefs can have dramatically different interpretations in metacultural framing, as were the case for rule of law and American dream in this discourse; (2) how the crux of an issue and its intractability can be seen by looking at how the problem is posed and how the solution is argued, and (3) how speakers strengthen their claims with particular kinds of rhetorical devices. Through descriptions of political positioning on the DREAM Act, the study contributes to understandings of ongoing issues regarding the lives of undocumented young people who have received and are receiving education in the U.S.

Abstract:
In this study you will follow five different people's experiences of moving from North Macedonia to Sweden for work. The aim of the study is to find out what challenges the individuals experienced in the North Macedonian labor market as well as the reasons that led the individuals to leave their home country in the hope of a better future in Sweden. Furthermore, the aim of the study is to find out how the move to Sweden went, what challenges they have encountered in the new country both socially and in the working life. The collection of the empirical material was done through semi-structured interviews with my five interviewees. This method was considered most suited as the goal of the study is to  highlight the individual’s perspective and to allow the individuals to tell their experiences. The empirical material was then analyzed with the help of the Framing Theory, which aims to obtain a definition of the problem from the individual's perspective, as well as explaining the causes from the individual's perspective, to obtain their moral judgements of the problem and the causes. Lastly the framing theory wants to find out what remedies are suggested by the individuals. The results of the study showed certain connections and differences among the individuals. All individuals described a difference in if you work in the private or the governmental sector in the North Macedonian labor market. The private sector is described as more fair where competence is what determines your opportunities for a job. While the governmental sector is described as unfair and characterized by political corruption, which limits opportunities especially for one of my respondents. However, this is something that all respondents directly or indirectly have experienced. Other challenges in the North Macedonian labor market mentioned were poor working conditions and fear of unemployment. Another reason mentioned by two of the respondents was simply that they are tired of their jobs and felt that they needed a change. The most common reason mentioned by all the respondents was the desire to give their children a better future with the freedom to explore their interests and become what they want without being limited by the labor market. When arriving to Sweden, the language was described as a major challenge by several of the respondents. Other challenges highlighted are cultural differences. Learning the language is described as a great help. Both when it comes to being given more opportunities in the work life and to feel more a part of the society and culture. Support from family and friends is also something that is mentioned to be helpful when dealing with the challenges.

Abstract:
The present work has as object of study the narratives of dreams produced by children, its main characteristics and contributions for the development of child´s discourse. In this direction, the main objective is to identify and to describe the dominant organizers, in the process of construction of oral narratives from children between 6 and 7 years, in order to evidence the importance of the listening of the interlocutor, as well as exploring the metalinguistics relations current in the meeting between the adult (researcher) and the child (subject). Thus, on the basis of these productions, the analysis will take in account the discursive and linguistic aspects, the mechanisms of the dream, the construction of the narrative sequences, pertinent the linguistic elements, as the conversational markers, the verbal tenses, the question of the subjectivity, among others. The proposal presented was a situation of narrative from one same question made by the researcher: Have you ever dreamed when you were sleeping? Tell me a dream that you had. To examine the unfoldings gotten in the answers to this investigation, we use as references the psychoanalytical (Freud, Winnicott) and psycholinguistic (F.François) referential, over all. To place in words the dream is a challenge and a pleasure for the child, in the measure where, in this exercise, the child, when placing itself as subject, has possibility to extend its communicative abilities, to enter in contact with constructions come from its unconscious and to confirm its role as protagonist of its history. This is exactly what we intend to unmask for the reader.

Maida, Vikki Y. ""An achievable dream": a program for at risk elementary school students in Newport News, Virginia." Diss., Virginia Tech, 1993. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/40194.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of "An Achievable Dream" (AAD), a program developed for at risk elementary students in Newport News, Virginia, in improving academic achievenlent, self concept, and school attendance. One hundred rising fourth grade students were identified in 1992 to participate in the pilot year of this program. Eighty-four students completed the entire year and were included in this study. A review of effective programs currently operating throughout the country examined other programs with similar goals. A case study detailed the history of the program, the adaptations made since the program's inception, and a summary of baseline data on the students. A program evaluation validated the structure of AAD, assessed the impact of AAD as it related to achieving the stated goals, and served as the foundation for a decision model for program continuation. Data was obtained through individual interviews, a review of written program materials, attendance records, and from individual student scores on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) reading comprehension subtest, the Degrees of Reading Power (DRP), and the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale (PHCSCS). All AAD program components were validated except student selection procedures. Many students were selected for inclusion into the program who did not fit the criteria for selection. Results of the evaluation showed little change in school attendance patterns and a decline in reading achievement percentile scores on both the ITBS and the DRP. Scores on the PHCSCS indicated that the majority of the students had an average to above average self concept. The decision model for program continuation included recommendations for consideration in program continuation.

The aim of this work is to study the inclusion of dreams in children s counseling adopting the Analytical Psychology approach. Jung did not recommend children s counseling, once he believed children s symptoms were due to the parents psyche. He recommended that parents should be treated instead of their sons and daughters. Jung s idea was that the children s Ego was still in the process of construction, and the Self did not yet have any performance. Fordham remade the concept of Self, observing its performance since the beginning of life, instead of after the maturity period, as Jung supported. Fordham worked with children in psychotherapy using Jung s method, including the dreams. This dissertation expects to show, through children s dream collected in psychotherapy, the possibility of work with children s dreams, utilizing the theory proposed by Jung. The dreams were collected in the last twenty two years, in psychotherapy sessions, without the aim, at the time, of producing a dissertation with these subjects. As the collected material suits the objective of this work, it was described, with the dreamers permission. The selected dreams have themes or shapes characteristically of children in different ages.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This research focused on the need of the children’s wear industry in South Africa for sizing systems based on accurate and current body measurement tables developed from the actual measurements of children. The broad objective of this study was to develop standardised measuring methodologies and techniques which would be relevant to the subsequent development of reliable, accurate and comprehensive body measurement tables. These tables could then be implemented as a basis for the development of new sizing systems, as well as new, improved and authentic fit dummy ranges. The literature study served as a point of departure for the planning and execution of the empirical study, focusing on sizing and size designation systems. The study population comprised children representative of three categories, namely age (2 to 14 years), gender (boys and girls) and sector (Black and Non-Black) categories. A convenience sample was selected, representing children from two geographical areas (Western Cape and Gauteng). The empirical study has a three phase structure. The first pilot study aimed at developing standardised measuring equipment, as well as the methodologies and properly recorded guidelines for their implementation. The specific standards according to which subjects were measured and the strict quality control measures implemented to ensure the validity, reliability and accuracy of recorded data, were confirmed during the second pilot study. Based on this, the final study was executed following the guidelines as recorded in the Field Worker Manual. The statistical analysis was done after data capturing during which the data sets were first cleaned up. Secondly, the key measurements for use as a basis for the development of the sizing systems were identified. Based on these, body measurement tables were compiled and age of gender split and growth patterns were analysed for fit dummy prototype development. The new size designation system developed for children’s clothing was successfully implemented as a multi-indicator system, linking height ranges with both age ranges and numerical size indicators. The development of the subsequent new and improved fit dummy prototypes was based on measurements within minimum and maximum values of the body measurements, in order to facilitate the construction of these three-dimensional bodies. It was also possible to develop complete body measurement tables with accurate, and notably irregular, increments between sizes as well as to determine specific growth patterns and separate growth spurts for both boys and girls. This study made new and original as well as more detailed and correct information available concerning the size and shape of the typical South African children’s wear consumer. Using the information contained in the new height based sizing system, retailers have been able to develop a proper set of grade rules for application in product development. The identification and demarcation of important body landmarks facilitated pattern drafting, garment development and fit assessments, resulting in an improved product offering for the typical South African children’s wear consumer. Recommendations regarding further research were formulated, such as comparing the study population categories, namely gender, age and sector. Implications for retailers, inter alia that each retail company could choose how to implement the new height based sizing system and the specific size designation system most suitably for their own consumers and internal systems. The standards set and methodologies implemented in this survey were an improvement on the sizing and fit of children’s wear in the context of South African manufacturers, retailers and consumers.
Volledige liggaamsmate-tabelle is daarna ontwikkel.

Abstract:
Career guidance and counselling at younger age has become an increasingly current topic lately. This forms the basis for this study, which aims to show small children‟s perspectives regarding the concept of career. The study consists of ten interviews with children 4-6 years of age, and the results show that the children have a great awareness of the concept of career. The children can describe what a job is, how to get a job, who is working, etc., which are analyzed from the concepts of self-concept, circumscription and images of occupations and based on previous research. Some conclusions drawn are that the children predominantly connects work to the parents, they do not see any limitations in terms of gender roles and all the children seem to have realistic work aspirations.

Abstract:
In this study, the policies and legislation connected to the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act between 2001 and 2012 were reviewed and analyzed to identify how the DREAM Act perpetuates structural violence. The DREAM Act purported to assist many undocumented immigrant children and young adults in becoming legal residents of the United States of America. This study applied both the qualitative content analysis approach and a policy analysis methodology guided by David Gil’s methodology for analysis and development of social policies. Data collection sources included legislative bills crafted on the DREAM Act, research articles and studies, progress reports, films, and archived newspaper articles, prior interviews, and memoranda. The theory of structural violence presented in this study was analyzed in terms of Johan Galtung’s account, particularly pertaining to undocumented children who are unserviceable or remain within the gray areas of the DREAM Act’s policies and legislative efforts. Additionally, the goals and objectives of the Act were evaluated against the disqualifying factors with which otherwise eligible children are faced, leading such children and young adults to become confined to substandard social and economic conditions. The leading research question was, “What is the impact of the DREAM Act policies on undocumented immigrant young adults?” The single follow-up question was, “How does failure to pass the DREAM Act affect undocumented children?” The study also aimed to detect signs, symbols, and traits of structural violence found through the analysis of the DREAM Act.

Abstract:
The aim of the study is to find out which experiences preschool teachers have of children´s reading experience when reading aloud in print and digital children´s literature. Also, which opportunities and limitations preschool teachers believe that print and digital children´s literature has. The method I used in the survey was interviews with five preschool teachers.  The result indicate that children can achieve different forms of reading experience in different ways. It was also revealed which purpose the reader has with the reading activity also affects the outcome of the reading experience. What time of the day and how preschool teachers plan the reading aloud activities varies, but when it comes to which opportunities and limitations the two reading tools have than the preschool teachers experience was quite the same. In conclusion, it turned out that the purpose of the reading aloud activities and the reader´s empathy and commitment affect the children´s reading experience more than the selection of reading tool.

Full text
Abstract:
The basic aim of this study is to show that family mediation appears to be an extrajudicial solution to resolve conflicts. Through this mediation there is an opportunity for the family to sort things out without the intervention of the courts. Mediation is mostly used by couples who are experiencing difficulties agreeing on all the issues associated with separation or divorce. However, there are other agents involved in the disputes that must not to be ignored. These are the minors who should be given the opportunity to express their opinion as a faithful expression of the human rights of every family member. Therefore it is important the presence of the children at the mediation process and the need for them to be considered part of the collaborative management in resolving disputes. The exercise of the rights of the children and teens is determined by the legislative recognition of the principle of the best interest of the child. Hence the reason an entire chapter of our work was devoted to it. It shows how the principle of the best interests of the child starts, evolves and is consolidated in the Chilean and Catalan Legal System. Indeed, once as an abstract clause, it seems there has been a progressive move towards a higher level of positive precision bringing it closer to the Anglo-Saxon model. At the same time, the principle of the best interest of the child must be complemented with his or her right to be heard on all related issues. This links directly to the idea of the autonomous action of the rights of minors. Therefore, Chapter III is focused on the comparative analysis - Chile and Catalonia- on that principle applied to family mediation. Despite a national and regional law that regulates mediation, boys, girls and teens, actually lack an ideal situation which allows them to be an active participant, to give their opinion, keeping in mind the consequences that their participation might have on the family unit and on society in general. The aim of this work is to go beyond the adult oriented approach of the rights of the minors and have a real and effective recognition of boys, girls and teens as citizens in today’s society having them play a leading role as well as one in day-to-day relationships.

Full text
Abstract:
The forging of personal identity begins in the human being's past, in their own biological origins. Starting from this axiom, biological truth has become a key principie of Western family law. While it is a traditional paradigm of filiation by nature, its current significance extends far beyond this to the cases of filiation by adoption and by assisted human reproduction, thanks in large part to the influence of the CRC. This instrument has proved essential, first and foremost, in reaffirming the universal character of fundamental rights. Secondly, it demonstrates a common approach in comparative law in building current family law upon three pillars: the central importance of the person, the increasing value attached to autonomy of the will in family relationships, and public order as a means — functional to this — of ensuring fundamental rights. Finally, a change in the very notion of childhood and adolescence establishes children and adolescents as rights-holders. Their fundamental rights are doubly protected, since they are granted to them not only as persons, but also in virtue of their particular stage of life. Among the rights of children and adolescents, the enshrinement in the CRC of the right to know one's biological origins (articles 7 and 8) stands out. These provisions, along with the ban on discrimination on the grounds of birth or any other status (article 2.1), entail the extension of the principie of biological truth to all individuals. This includes those naturally conceived and then adopted and the offspring of assisted reproductive technology. The will to be parents as the foundation of filiation and the discordance between the legal and biological bonds, characteristic of both cases, prompt a joint study of this right, treated separately from filiation and dividing the knowledge of genetic and/or gestational origins from its scope and effects. Most contemporary legal systems contemplate this right in adoption, either by establishing it together with the duty of disclosure or by embracing an open adoption system. Allowing it in assisted human reproduction has met with greater resistance. Nevertheless, an initial trend towards the abolition of anonymity did emerge in the eighties (in Sweden, Austria or Switzerland). Despite this, however, it is only in the last few years that this tendency away from secrecy and in favour of the investigation of biological origins has become established (as shown by Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Finland and Germany, among others). This research undertakes an in¬depth study of the right to know one's biological origins; defming it as a human, fundamental and autonomous right, part of the right to personal identity; analysing its interdisciplinary and legal foundations; enquiring into its recognition at an international, national and Catalan level; and delving into the conflicts of interests that may occur among the parties of the filial triangle.

Abstract:
Are children and adolescents happy while under the Child Protection System in Catalonia? There are few national and international studies on subjective well-being among children, and even less, on subjective well-being of children and adolescents in care The main objective of this PhD is to analyze the subjective well-being of adolescents in care in Catalonia. We analyzed which type of placement favors their subjective well-being, we compared their subjective well-being with that of the general population of the same age, and we studied how different variables affect their subjective well-being. The results indicated that the adolescents in kinship care and non-kinship foster care showed similar levels of subjective well-being than general population and higher than those who live in residential care. These results highlight the importance of taking into account the opinion of the adolescents when making decisions that affect their lives

There are few documented cases and active programs of environmental education (EA) that support schools and teachers in their teaching for the care of the environment in the State of Guanajuato, Mexico. Two cases will be made in this research. The first, from 2001 to 2003, where the State Ecology Institute (IEEG) developed the project ‘Green School, the Agenda 21 of the educational center’, so that it addressed the needs of the schools in the field of EA, and they were helped and guided in the process of creating their own School Agenda 21, giving them training and the advice necessary to develop tools on environmental school promoters. The second case from the nineties, is currently lead by the Foundation of Support for children, Guanajuato Child A. C., which has developed an alternative model of sustainable child central development, and where there is an EA program for primary schools called ‘Friends of Nature’. The two cases are finally compared to give an assessment of their benefits
Abstract:
The topical focus of the present study are the centers for abandoned children and minor and youth detention centers in Catalonia (Spain). The particular institutions claim that with reference to minors and young people, their character and purpose is primarily educational. The research investigates the alleged educational character of these institutions, especially when considering that historically several punitive measures and treatments were presented as educational, re-educational and/or therapeutic. The research also investigates how the treatment of minors in relevant institutions is determined and shaped by the needs and processes of social control. The research plan is structured along two basic methodological approaches: a) Assuming that there is a significant interaction and correlation between the institutional responses in i. child protection and ii. juvenile justice systems, both designed to meet the needs and objectives pertaining to their respective field, the target is to analyze the topic as a whole with the aim being to identify and interpret shared characteristics between the fields; b) Reviewing the current status of institutional care of children, the aim is to assess and evaluate its role within the prism of control, discipline and punishment. First, the focus is on assessing the common elements of the protective institutions and penal institutions that allow them to state that governs the model of "carceral pedagogy" and that these institutions belong to a "carceral continuum". Among the various elements that are fundamental in this type of pedagogy and were shown to be common in the ‘continuum’ of institutions are i. the representation and institutional “construction” of the subjects prisoners and interned; ii. the behavioral system of rewards and sanctions; iii. the "educational" corrections iv. the disciplinary regime and sanctions; v. the containment means; vi. the frequent use of psychopharmacology; and vii. the medical-educational ideal. Second, the research aims at detecting strategies and instruments of social control, within the framework of available treatment forms. In this context, it was shown that social control operates mainly through two general lines: a) the educational "mask" and b) the psychiatrization of conflict and social unrest. A major underlying element of the present thesis is that the institutions of child protection and juvenile justice systems under consideration are recorded in the context of a punitive institutionalized system of social control that is presented within a nonpunitive discourse and constitutes spaces of control, punishment and social exclusion.

ABSTRACT As time goes by, the changes caused by the rapid development of technology have also indirectly changed people's values. However, many classic tales passed on from old times remain the same. They are still somewhere inside our heart, as the most beautiful images. One reason why fairy tales are charming is the fact that reality is difficult and hard. Thanks to the trend of re-deconstruction and introspection of fairy tales, we can now learn more about these classic works through various forms of creation, so that people can keep as many of the beautiful impressions in their mind as possible. Through modeling design and photographic techniques, this study aimed to re-interpret these classic fairy tales as close to the original manifestation as possible, in order to learn more about the rather dark sides of the stories which are interesting and not known to everyone and present all this through the completed modeling works. In reality, people are used to avoid problems and experiences, showing the fact that since ancient times civilized societies have been suppressing people’s dreams and their right to dream. The research subjects of this study were the characters and structural contents of the fairy tales. From the perspectives of philosophical psychology and literary work analysis, this study explored the implied messages of these stories and presented them through visual works. The method combining modeling techniques and storyboards of the shots was adopted, in hopes of not only allowing more readers to get to grasp the original meanings of the stories but also providing a reference with practical values for studying modeling and creation. Key words: fairy tale, modeling, photography, modern art

Abstract:
This qualitative study focuses on the stories of a bereaved couple living with the death of two of their children. The effect of the children's death on the parents is explored, as well as the way in which the parents live with the death of their two sons. The stories of the bereaved couple show their courage and resilience in continuing with their lives, maintaining their bond with their deceased sons and trying to make meaning of their death. As a study in practical theology and pastoral care one aim of this study was to help transform the lives of the parents for the better. In one of the chapters of the research report a study of some literature on bereavement and the death of children is presented. Dominant cultural discourses about death, bereavement, grief and mourning are discussed, as well as voices protesting against these discourses.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The findings yielded by several content analyses in the literature, that the majority of dreams are realistic and based on everyday aspects related to wishes, interests, and fears, corroborate the hypothesis of the psychoanalytic theory concerning the existence of a direct relationship between awakening and the content of dreams, thus supporting the continuity hypothesis. Moreover, studies on children’s dreams which support the developmental perspective have found differences in the contents of the dreams according to the children’s age and gender. Owing to the scarcity of theoretical and empirical evidence regarding this topic on Portuguese children, it was considered pertinent to conduct the present study whose main goal is to contribute to a better understanding of the experiencing of dreams on Portuguese children, analysing and identifying their content according to gender and age. 103 students on the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade, aged 8 to 11, from schools in Cascais participated in the present study. The students filled in a questionnaire created by the researcher consisting of 50 items and 3 open-ended questions. The content analysis conducted on the data showed differences in the contents of the children’s dreams according to their age and gender. The data support the dream continuity hypothesis since the majority of the reported dreams reflected the participating children’s everyday experiences while awake. A relationship between the content of the dreams and the child’s emotional, cognitive, and social development was also obtained.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to determine whether dream analysis, as an educational psychological means, can provide insight into adolescent emotional problems. Hence, a literature study was done on adolescent emotional problems, on dreams and on dream analysis. Several classical and contemporary theories on dreams and dream analysis were analysed to design a model for dream analysis. A qualitative study, with five adolescent girls with emotional problems, followed. Data gathering included recorded dreams, interviews, diaries, a personality test, (the Emotions Profile Index), a projection medium (Three Wishes) and the above-mentioned model for dream analysis. Findings indicated that dream analysis can provide insight into adolescent emotional problems, revealing the intrapsychic world of the individual. Emotional problems that were revealed by the dream analysis, are anxiousness, aggression, a negative self-concept, feelings of being socially isolated and depression. Compensatory as well as regulatory functions of dreams were revealed by the empirical investigation.

Having been interested in dream, I have made great efforts to research the dream. During the process of exploring the dream, I attempt to discuss the real world which the dream and the reality compose and further understand my inner consciousness, mental activities and feelings. “Dream” ,therefore, is the origin of the main thoughts at my art works and also a new way of the creation. The creation of art works based on Symbolism and Surrealism in the art history which relates to the dream, and Psychoanalysis as the literature review tries to express the thoughts, Aesthetics, content and form in the dream. My art works using the form of making up the dreamlike phantom and symbolic figure show the dream’s value to the person, the desire of seeking dream, the worldview hiding in the mind, the culture transmission, the future vision, the feeling expressing, the desire for the matter, and the anxiety and fear about the end of the world and so on. Besides, combining the consciousness with unconsciousness by intentional, associative or casual way appears the truth produced by interlacing the mind in the dream with the reality in the real life, reveals the fear and desire within the unconsciousness, and cognizes the mental world of oneself. There are two serial creations at my art works. What “Dream-achieving” Serial Creations express is to seek dreams, require affections, and speculate the life’s meaning and value. “Children’s Playthings & Folkgames” Serial Creations not only reflect the individual’s inner thoughts by describing naive childhood’s life but also reticently criticize the reality through the scene and the symbol in the dream.

Abstract:
In studying the dreams of First Nations children, I honoured Native culture through gaining knowledge to plan for future generations and by acknowledging dreams, I hoped to revive the Native belief that empowerment and guidance could be obtained from dreams. The literature on children's dreams and the experiences of children of alcoholics was minimal. In this qualitative exploratory study, I analyzed the dreams of a Native boy and girls between the ages of 9 and 13. The child participants were from home environments where the mother was recovering from alcoholism. I examined the dreamer's perceptions in the dreams collected and the results indicated that dreams did not reveal direct evidence of alcohol, or First Nations themes. The dreams however did expose other issues that the children were dealing with, which were sometimes connected to alcoholism. Some of these concerns were: domestic violence, neglect, and abuse. Along with these grave issues, the children also dealt with less serious concerns in their dreams, such as quarrels with friends. The children's resiliency varied, individually, according to their dream perceptions of themselves, and others. The findings suggest that collecting a series of dreams could enable a counsellor to gain information about the child's situation that the child may not otherwise convey. This assessment from dreams can assist in planning interventions for the child and family.

When the idea passed the voted, dream holders could raise for fund, labors, and location etc. Cicisasa is a fund-raised successful example. The research is proceeding as case of Harvard, and it could be discussed for Business model、Resource Bricolage、Ambidextrous Social Value, those topic could also develop into a new type of education.Take CIcisasa for example, the platform preserved the painting and children would learn to be more confident and they would realize they have power to do something charity. By the method of saving the paintings children could have more connections with whole society. The platform is trying to broadcast the positive energy.

Abstract:
This research examines ideas for change in Australia's social arrangements for care of young children. It focuses on mothers who, in spite of the impact of second-wave feminism, continue to provide most of the care of young children. The central thesis of this work is that Australia's arrangements amount to exploitation of the labour of mothers of young children by the rest of the community, and that it would be reasonable for the rest of the community to contribute much more in the way of economic resources to this work. This research brings together ideas from alternative economics about the economic value of unpaid work, sociological research into time use, and feminist critiques of the ideology of motherhood and the institution of the family. The research examines the issues through the lens of contemporary critical social theory, including relevant feminist theory. This framework emphasizes the concepts of oppression and exploitation, and draws heavily on the feminist critique of the public/private divide.
