The military art of Ancient China, which was developed on the basis of the military-theoretical heritage of Sun Tzu, Wu Tzu, contains many examples of achieving victory in war through military cunning, improving tactical techniques of armed struggle, as well as information and psychological impact on the enemy’s troops and population. The era of the Three Kingdoms in the history of China occupies a relatively short period of time – 220–280 A.D., however, the qualitative characteristics of the military aspect deserve special attention. AbstractThis paper explores the efforts and impact of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge in China (1834–1839), which existed during the five years before the First Opium War. It contends that the Society represented a third form of British engagement with the Chinese, alongside the diplomatic attempts of 1793 and 1816, and the military conflict of 1839–1842. The Society waged an ‘information war’ to penetrate the information barrier that the Qing had established to contain European trade and missions. The Gerasimov doctrine represents the basis for interpretation of all the actions and activities carried out by the Russians in this confrontation and a strong point in drawing real and probable conclusions. AbstractRealism is generally seen as one of the most influential theories of international politics. Military and foreign policy officials adhere to the apparent timeless insights of realism. They stress the importance of power, especially military power, and the need to ensure the survival and security of the state. Ontologically, realism depicts a hostile world of power-seeking states. Some realists explain this in terms of human nature while others emphasize the anarchical structure of international politics. AbstractThe origins of design are linked to humanity’s strategic ability to leverage imagination for advantages. Furthermore, the link between the design discipline and security affairs is reinforced by how design (in its various forms) co-evolved with military art and science. Their tangled relationship is particularly evident during the so-called modern period in which design became its own discipline, when military power and industrialization melded into the new character of politics, and all of it was reflected in the shifting character of warfare.
