Abstract:
AbstractObjectivesThe aim of our study is to systematically describe the genotypic and phenotypic spectrum of Glycogen storage disease type VI (GSD VI), especially in Chinses population. MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed ten Chinese children diagnosed as having GSD VI confirmed by next generation sequencing in Children’s Hospital of Fudan University and Jinshan Hospital of Fudan University. We described the genotypic and phenotypic spectrum of GSD VI through the clinical and genetic data we collected. Moreover, we conducted a literature review, and we compared the genotypic and phenotypic spectrum of GSD VI between Chinese population and non Chinese population. ResultsFor the first time, we found that four Chinese patients showed cirrhosis in liver biopsy characterized by the formation of regenerative nodules. In addition, c.772+1G>A and c.1900G>C, p.(Asp634His) were recurrent in three Chinese families and four European families respectively indicating that the genotypic spectrum of PYGL gene may vary among the population. Furthermore, we identified seven novel variants in PYGL gene. ConclusionsOur study enriched the genotypic and phenotypic spectrum of GSD VI, and provided a new clue for management of GSD VI.

Abstract:
In recent years, teachers in kindergarten from Chinese mainland face many new challenges after ECE promoting policy in 2010 by Chinses Ministry of Education. Therefore high-quality KG teachers with excellent job performance and long retention are necessary. However, due to the high workload and low salary the turnover intention among KG teachers in China is high. Once turnover happens, both direct cost and indirect cost would occur, which would bring negative influence on ECE quality. Due to the professional nature of KG teachers the replacement is hard therefore it is important to understand how to achieve retention of KG teachers. Therefore, workload and work-life conflict are identified as independent variables to predict the turnover intention among KG teachers in Chinese mainland mediated by job stress and moderated by family-supportive supervisor. At last, through data analysis by SmartPLS workload and work-life conflict are positively related to turnover intention among KG teachers in Chinese mainland mediated by job stress. However, family-supportive supervisor does not have a moderating effect on the relationship between workload, work-life conflict and job stress. This study gives new insights for understanding the factors that are related to turnover intention among KG teachers in Chinese mainland.

Abstract:
As one of the most significant components of financial technology (FinTech), blockchain technology arouses the interests of numerous investors in China, and the number of companies engaged in this field rises rapidly. The emotion of investors has an effect on stock returns, which is a hot topic in behavioral finance. Blockchain is an essential part of FinTech, and with the fast development of this technology, investors’ sentiment varies as well. The online information that directly reflects investors’ mood could be utilized for mining and quantifying to construct a sentiment index. For a better understanding of how well some factors adequately explain the return of stocks related to blockchain companies in the Chinese stock market, the Fama-French three-factor model (FFTFM) will be introduced in this paper. Furthermore, sentiment could be a new independent variable to enhance the explanatory power of the FFTFM. A comparison between those two models reveals that the sentiment factor could raise the explanatory power. The results also indicate that the Chinses blockchain industry does not own the size effect and book-to-market effect.

Abstract:
Health improvement is an important social development goal for every country. By using a geographical weighted regression (GWR) model on the 5th and 6th censuses data, this paper analyzes the spatially varied influencing factors of the change in life expectancy of residents in Chinses cities. The results indicate that: (1) The initial level of life expectancy may have a negative correlation with its increase, indicating that life expectancy in different areas may eventually converge to a higher level; moreover, the degree of convergence of life expectancy in cities with different economic development levels is variant. (2) Results of geographically weighted regression model demonstrate significant spatial heterogeneity in the effects of the level of economic development, medical conditions, demographic structure, and natural environment on health improvement. Natural conditions, such as topography, dictate the change in life expectancy in most cities in the middle eastern region of China. Change of educational level is the leading factor in the vast western region while the change in birth rate is the most critical in Xinjiang. Thus, local-based strategies are critical for solving health problems, especially with a focus on promoting health conditions in middle-income and low-income areas.

Abstract:

There have been countless empirical studies conducted to test the validity of the Capital Asset Pricing Model(CAPM)since its naissance. However, few have considered the Chinese Stock Market. The purpose of this paper is to test the CAPM to see if it holds true in the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE). We use weekly stock returns from 100 companies listed on the SSE during 2000.1.1 to 2005.12.31. Black, Jensen and Scholes (1972) (time-series test) and Fama and MacBeth (1973) (cross-sectional test) methods were used to test the CAPM.

We found that the excepted returns and betas are linear related with each other during the entire period of 2000.1.1 to 2005.12.31, which implies a strong support of the CAPM hypothesis.

On the other hand, as the CAPM hypothesizes for the intercept, is it should equal zero and the slope should equal to the average risk premium. However, the results from the test refute the above hypothesizes and offer evidence against the CAPM.

According to the findings of the empirical test, we conclude that the Capital Asset Pricing Model does not give a valid description of the Chinese Stock Market during 2000.1.1 to 2005.12.31.

Abstract:
Under the background of the competitive and dynamic international market, many enterprises started or intended to develop international entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) as a strategic posture. For achieving this kind of orientation, leadership behaviours are necessary and shared leadership is put forward to support enterprises to adapt to the fast-changing global market. Moreover, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are an essential type of business enterprises, especially in China. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to study how shared leadership contributes to the development of IEO in a Chinese SME. As a qualitative research, data were collected by interviews and processed by content analysis. The findings of this research are: (1) shared leadership contributes on the establishment of common IEO thinking at the phase of building the IEO awareness; (2) shared leadership plays a role as explicit support and implicit support on implementing IEO; (3) these contributions of shared leadership are mutually reinforcing and complementary, which result in the reinforcement and complementation between the awareness and the implementation of IEO. These findings contribute to the research in the combination of shared leadership and IEO through studying the effects of shared leadership and the process of IEO development. Moreover, this research enriches the study on the field of SMEs and provides guidance for SME leaders who intend to develop IEO.

Abstract:
Chinese Catholic communities living in Paris and Milan developed throughout 20th century following Asian migration flows. Being aware of the challenge of welcoming these new believers, French and Italian church authorities implemented specific structures for Catholic migrants. Through a comparative ethnographic study, this thesis offers to analyze how ecclesiastical institutions in Italy and France follow the structuring of Chinese faithful groups. During this research, we focused on churchgoers’ life stories and motivations behind their Catholic faith. More specifically, we analyzed how all these elements influenced their daily practice of Catholicism. We also studied the role that these Catholic communities play in terms of keeping connections between Chinese migrants and their culture

Xu, Xiaoying. "Les politiques d’aménagement touristiques sur le littoral chinois : évaluation de l'évolution de quelques zones côtières." Thesis, Paris Est, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010PEST1125.

Full text
Abstract:
Our subject is an analysis of tourism development in coastal China. It focuses on the development and coastal policies, the development of hotel facilities, the strategies of various public and private stakeholders, in considering the new requirements of sustainable development. Coastlines have been a very early tourism development globally in certain countries. In Europe, it has often been associated with the creation of railroads that allowed the arrival of the inhabitants of large cities. This was for instance the case of Biarritz, Deauville, Nice, France for the Tréport, Brighton, Bournemouth, England. China's Imperial era saw Europeans sometimes create urban neighborhoods of coastal cities, Qingdao, Hong Kong, Macau ... It was probably the first hotel sites in the modern sense of the word in China. My research as part of a Town Planning Institute, it was decided to place emphasis on some areas. Referring to the French political planning and in particular the coast. The questions are mainly : -The attitudes of different levels of government (central state, local) address the effects of tourists on the environment, activities and traditional uses. -The policy responses to an implementation to balance urban growth, tourism flows and sustainable development but also economic development. -The local planning policies translate into local development plans, authorizations or constraints on the various urban development projects for tourism. The urbanization of coastal areas for tourism is becoming a powerful economic engine throughout the world. We know the case of Florida, but recently urban development concern the Gulf emirates, including Dubai for luxury tourism. But the development of coastal tourism can have happily various purposes : either to be reserved for the wealthy, or be accessible to diverse audiences (family, retired, works council). We tend to answer these questions about China.Today in France, the coastal destination is the destination of leisure French and foreign tourists. In a development that was based on quantitative growth in the supply of accommodation, now is the qualitative element which should be better taken into account to improve the quality of services, offering products different scales, more jobs, protect and enhance natural areas and bring back the environmental quality in the stations, and to respect the concept of sustainable development. Three decades ago the government has organized and regulated the occupation of coastal areas to take into account the environment but also to protect the landscape and allow the free flow of pedestrians. We want to develop public beaches and limit the total privatization of the shoreline by certain hotels or private owners. As in Italy, in the area of Rimini, only private beaches. Now a new question arises: how the park hotel can develop in relation to the concept of sustainable urban developmen t on the coast? The Chinese territory has about 18,000 km of coastline, coastal areas are the most developed regions in China, they play an important role in Chinese economy. Especially the coastal cities become places where tourists come first, they will perhaps one day also major tourist destinations for foreign tourists. We know there are now 12 areas for recreation and holidays selected by the state, among them, 8 are experiencing coastal areas and those are some that have been selected for this research. Now, there are many coastal regulations, and many urban development projects and tourism at the seaside. The projects under construction, actually encourage the local authorities and private investors to seek foreign cooperation mostly European to learn from others' experiences and attract

The dissertation is divided in six different chapters. The first one concerns the nominal syntagma, and treatsnotably the problem of quantification and characterisation. Uses of numeric quantifiers ordinal characterisers and quantifiers are succesively considered. In the last five chapters, we examine the functionnement of a few particles generally associated to the predicative determination; successively : qi (auxiliary of futurity), wei (auxiliary of diathesis) hui (deontic prescriptive auxiliary), you (existential possessive auxiliary) and the negation particles bu, fu, wu1, wu2, wang and fei. For each of these particles, we quote concisely the epigraphical facts and earlier grammatical analysies. When it is possible, we try to explain, as illustration, the functionnement of the same particles in the later documents (bronze inscriptions and canonic texts of the zhou period)

Abstract:
For chineses students, the general knowledge for ISEG's is relatively low, mainly due to the two aspects: communication in the Chinese market and cooperation programs with HEIs in China. In the initial phase of exploring Chinese market, it is crucial for ISEG to understand the Chinese market and the profile of Chinese students, even their parents. The main objetivo for the present project is to explore the profile of Chinese students and their perception in terms of Portugal, through secondary data and the questionnaire for chinese students who are already attending undergraduate, masters and doctorate courses in Portugal. In order to understand the main strengths and weaknesses of ISEG compared with its competitors external and internal, a competition analysis is carried out. Based on that, we find out the main parts to be improved, such as: increase the number of courses taught in English, the communication and cooperation with higher education institutions in China. As a result, the Marketing Plan developed presents several actions and strategies, aimed at improving the image of ISEG in the Chinese market, increase its notoriety, and the enrollment of Chinese students, etc.

Abstract:
The research on the history of the Chinese contemporary art implies two essential questions. First of all, we may question the use of the word "contemporary". The never-ending debate concerning contemporaneity has lead to the second question which concentrates on a more geographical point. Does a contemporary Chinese art really exist? From Ma Yuan to Dong Qichang, the first part of this research aims at tracing the evolution of Chinese art. It will be interesting to see how current artists seized the traditional Chinese culture and resurrected this art through the prism of their contemporary reality. It is necessary to link this ascension to the rising of the Popular Republic of China. The hatred of the Communist Party for art, associated to the will of producing a new utilitarian art, were the source of innovative aesthetics and formal codes directly influenced by the Russian socialist realism and the Nazi propaganda

This dissertation proposes, as a general objective, to investigate the presence of Chinese groups in Foz do Iguaçu - PR and their relations with local society. The research was developed from an interdisciplinary perspective, based on field of Language Policy, which aims to understand the decisions and relations between languages and society. As for the methodology, the research approach is qualitative and uses several interpretative procedures to understand how the integration experiences lived by the research subjects are configured. Regarding the means of obtaining data, the research was preceded by bibliographic research, followed by field observation and structured interviews. The data reveal that the presence of Chinese writing in public spaces in the city of Foz do Iguaçu is mainly evidenced in commercial establishments aimed at the Chinese community and restaurants specializing in Chinese cuisine. It was verified that, except for the Buddhist temple, the places where the Chinese writing was observed were in the central region of Foz do Iguaçu. Concerning integration, data suggests that there were behaviours of social isolation and little integration with the local community of Foz do Iguaçu. Based on the results, suggestions are made to improve the integration of the Chinese community and to bridge the linguistic borders, such as the insertion of essential information in the Chinese language in the main public services, as well as the proposal of public educational policies for teaching-learning Portuguese language to immigrants. It is expected that this research will contribute to giving visibility to the Chinese languages, as well as indicating ways to decrease the linguistic and cultural border between the Chinese language speakers and local community in the Foz do Iguaçu border context.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter we discuss China’s evolving policies toward Chinese nationals abroad, with particular attention to the expanding area of social protection. Our analysis shows that China’s policy-making activities concerning diaspora have been largely driven by a focus on economic agenda rather than social welfare. This chapter presents a detailed picture of China’s social protection provision towards its diaspora and shows how its policy-making is guided by priorities which vary from one field to another. We trace how “overseas Chinese affairs work” has developed through expanding policy infrastructure, encouraging China’s diaspora to participate in national economy and trade, science and technology developments, and large-scale crisis response, yet has seen limited developments in the area of day-to-day social protection of Chinese nationals abroad.

Abstract:
Is China’s status in the 21st century economic superpower that moves the world’s markets, impoverished developing country—or both? China’s economy has seen amazing growth in recent decades. In 2014, the IMF listed China as the world’s largest economy. ‘Is China's economy modern?’ defines the characteristics of a modern economy and relates them to China’s situation by looking at Chinese economic patterns during the last thousand years. If the characteristics are enthusiasm for growth, capital investment, and industrialization then the answer is ‘yes’. The greatest challenge for Chinese policy makers has been how to maintain the current growth rates without accelerating inflation. Environmental pollution is also a growing concern.

Abstract:
This chapter introduces the concept of Chinese exceptionalism as a framework for studying China’s political worldview and international relations. It argues that a discourse of Chinese exceptionalism has permeated Chinese scholarly circles as a mode of political inquiry into China’s international relations and vision of global order. Consequently it argues that a framework of exceptionalism provides a more comprehensive explanation of China’s international politics and foreign policy behavior. The chapter also discusses the research design of this study, which is based primarily on elite interviews and discourse analysis. It concludes with an outline of the remaining eight chapters of the book, and how they relate to the broader theme of Chinese exceptionalism.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the contribution of Sino-Japanese economic interdependence on China's moderation of the role of mass nationalism on its policymaking. It contends that the importance to China of stable Sino-Japanese economic cooperation has compelled Chinese leaders to repress periodic mass outbursts of anti-Japanese nationalism before they could harm Sino-Japanese economic cooperation. But the rise of the Chinese economy vis-à-vis Japan, and Beijing's corresponding understanding that Japanese dependence on the Chinese economy has superseded Sino-Japanese interdependence, have weakened the constraints of economic interests on China's Japan policy. The rise of the Chinese economy has eroded the contribution of economic interdependence to stable Sino-Japanese relations, suggesting a long-term trend of greater nationalist content in China's Japan policy.

Abstract:
Chapter 2 uses an original dataset of Chinese-language sources to understand Chinese views on the connection between regime change and intervention, and unpacks why China finds regime change so problematic. Unlike intervention, which may be permissible under specific conditions, regime change is systematically dismissed. China’s controversies over regime change fall into five categories: defining which actor has the authority to impose regime change; critiques about the aftermath of regime change; misgivings about how regime change affects China’s overseas interests, the role of the United Nations in executing regime change, and how regime change presents challenges to China’s core interests. Most importantly, Chinese writings reflect concerns regarding cases of regime change setting a precedent for actions against China. This chapter adds to an emerging literature that discusses the issue of regime change for China’s foreign policy behavior.

Abstract:
Science and technology of Republican China (1912-1949) often replicated the West in all hierarchies. However, in 1949 when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) declared the nation the People's Republic of China, it had assumed Soviet pseudo-science, namely neo-Lamarckian and anti-Mendelian Lysenkoism, which led to intense propaganda campaigns that victimized intellectuals and natural scientists. Not until the 1956 Double Hundred Campaign had China engaging in meaningful exploration into modern genetics with advancements of Morgan. The CCP encouraged discussions on the impact of Lysenkoism which cultivated guidelines to move science forward. However, Mao ended the campaign by asserting the Anti-Rightist Movement (1957) that reinstated the persecution of intellectuals, for he believed they did not contribute to his socialist ethos of the working people. The Great Leap Forward (1958-1959), an idealist and unrealistic attempt to rapidly industrialize the nation, and the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), a grand attempt to rid China of the "technological elite," extended China's lost years to a staggering two decades. Post-Mao China rapidly revived its science and technology frontier with specialized sciences: agricultural biotechnology, major genomic ventures, modernizing Traditional Chinese Medicine, and stem-cell research. Major revisions to the country’s patent laws increased international interest in China’s resources. However, bioethical and technical standards still need to be implemented and locally and nationally monitored if China’s scientific advances are to be globally accepted and commercialized.

Full text
Abstract:
Sustainable development of Chinese economy in 21st century will mainly rely on self-supply of clean energy with indigenous natural resources. The burden of current coal-dominant energy mix and the environmental stress due to energy consumptions has led nuclear power to be an indispensable choice for further expanding electricity generation capacity in China and for reducing greenhouse effect gases emission. The application of nuclear energy in producing substitutive fuels for road transportation vehicles will also be of importance in future China’s sustainable energy strategy. This paper illustrates the current status of China’s energy supply and the energy demand required for establishing a harmonic and prosperous society in China. In fact China’s energy market faces following three major challenges, namely (1) gaps between energy supply and demand; (2) low efficiency in energy utilization, and (3) severe environmental pollution. This study emphasizes that China should implement sustainable energy development policy and pay great attention to the construction of energy saving recycle economy. Based on current forecast, the nuclear energy development in China will encounter a high-speed track. The demand for crude oil will reach 400–450 million tons in 2020 in which Chinese indigenous production will remain 180 million tons. The increase of the expected crude oil will be about 150 million tons on the basis of 117 million tons of imported oil in 2004 with the time span of 15 years. This demand increase of crude oil certainly will influence China’s energy supply security and to find the substitution will be a big challenge to Chinese energy industry. This study illustrates an analysis of the market demands to future hydrogen economy of China. Based on current status of technology development of HTGR in China, this study describes a road of hydrogen production with nuclear energy. The possible technology choices in relation to a number of types of nuclear reactors are compared and assessed. The analysis shows that only high temperature gas cooled reactor (HTGR) and sodium fast breed reactor might be available in China in 2020 for hydrogen production. Further development of very high temperature gas cooled reactor (VHTR) and gas-cooled fast reactor (GCFR) is necessary to ensure China’s future capability of hydrogen production with nuclear energy as the primary energy. It is obvious that hydrogen production with high efficient nuclear energy will be a suitable strategic technology road, through which future clean vehicles burning hydrogen fuel cells will become dominant in future Chinese transportation industry and will play sound role in ensuring future energy security of China and the sustainable prosperity of Chinese people.

Abstract:
Cultural diplomacy, which is accepted as a sub-branch of public diplomacy, is described as ‘the exchange of ideas, information, art, and other aspects of culture among nations and their peoples in order to foster mutual understanding’ by Milton C. Cummings. Although this term has been used in international relations for centuries, its acceptance as a theory is a relatively new concept. Cultural diplomacy, as a component of both public diplomacy and also Joseph Nye’s ‘soft power’, includes movies, music, dance, exhibitions, various education and exchange programs, literature and cultural programs. In today’s world, China, a super power with its growing economy, started to feature its soft power, public and cultural diplomacy to break the perception of ‘China threat’ theory which shortly claims that the rising power would eventually challenge the hegemon power and war will be inevitable. The aim of this study is to put forward Chinese efforts in promoting cultural diplomacy to break the perception of ‘China threat’ theory by analyzing the elements of China’s cultural diplomacy, which are basically; Confucius Institutes, marketing Chinese cultural products, series of cultural programs and foreign aid. As the outcomes of the research, it is seen that against ‘China Threat’ theory, China clearly keeps emphasizing its peaceful development and wants to improve its image especially after 1989 Tinananmen Crackdown. Hence, as the most important elements of China’s cultural diplomacy; Confucius Institutes have been established throughout the world, Chinese cultural products are being marketed and Chinese foreign policy is becoming more transparent.

Abstract:
Reducing energy consumption and environmental pollution of road transportation is one of the major challenges to China’s commitment to sustainable development. This paper aims to establish the LCA model of solid oxide fuel cells-based auxiliary power unit (SOFC-APU) for heavy vehicles with Chinese background for analysis of potential environmental benefits of its implementation in China. First, the LCA of the SOFC power using natural gas as the cells’ fuel is performed using eBalance, which is the Chinese LCA software with high quality domestic underlying database, and the results show that the fuel production phase is a major contributor to SOFC-APU’s life-cycle environmental impacts. Then the comparative LCA analysis of SOFC-APU using biomass ethanol from different feedstock planting areas in China is presented and results show that using corn-based ethanol fuel can potentially lower the lifecycle environmental impacts of SOFC-APU by 37.7%.
