Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior<br>The aim of this study was to compare the effects of mercuric chloride (HgCl2) on renal and hepatic parameters in adult non-lactating and lactating rats and their pups and to assess the potential preventive role of Zn, given as zinc chloride (ZnCl2), on the nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic effects caused by exposure to inorganic mercury. Nonlactating and lactating rats were pre-exposed to a daily dose of ZnCl2 (27 mg/kg/day; s.c.) or saline 0.9% during five consecutive days and to a daily dose of HgCl2 (5 mg/kg/day; s.c.) or saline 0.9%

A red

Abstract:
Escapin is an L-amino acid oxidase that produces antimicrobial metabolites collectively called “Escapin Intermediate Products” (EIP-K). EIP-K and H2O2 together were previously shown to be bactericidal towards diverse planktonic bacteria. The present work investigates the ability of EIP-K and H2O2 to antagonize bacterial biofilms, using Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a model. The project had three aims: 1) determine the most effective concentrations of EIP-K and H2O2 necessary to break down existing P. aeruginosa biofilms, using a crystal violet assay; 2) examine the ability of EIP-K + H2O2 to inhib

Formaldehyde is toxic and carcinogenic. According to the worldwide standards, acceptable limit of free formaldehyde release, for the fabrics that have skin contact, is only 75 ppm (measured by water extraction method).
