Full textObject of the research – Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) – common tree in Lithuania, sensitive to air pollution. Research of Scots pine were conducted in the industrial areas of Lithuania companies JSC – (25 km transect) near the factory JSC (10 km sector) and an oil refinery (in 2 – 5,4 km distance). Goal of the research – to evaluate quality of photosynthetic pigments and ascorbic acid in the needles of Scots pine growing around main sources of industrial pollution. Methodology of the research. Research was performed in 17 pine forests, at different distance from the factories. In the surroundings of the nitrogen fertilizer factory 8 forests were examined in 25 km distance, near the cement factory – 4 forests in 10 km distance and near the oil refinery – 5 forests in 5.4 km distance. In each site, samples of current-year and 1-year-old needles were taken from 4 pines at the height of 6-8 m aboveground. The needles were cooled and transported to laboratory. Concentrations of the pigments and ascorbic acid were determined in the fresh needle material. The needles were grinded and in 20ml of 100% acetone. The absorbance at 662 nm (chlorophyll a), 644 nm (chlorophyll b) and 440.5 nm (carotenoids) was measured by spectrophotometer (Genesys 5, US). The ascorbic acid from the needles was extracted with 0.001 N 2.6-dichlorophenolindophenol and estimated titrimetrically. Results of the research. Research results showed that number of photosynthesis pigments is meaningly... [to full text]

Full textTomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is one of the leading vegetables grown and consumed in Brazil and in the world, after potato. The importance of tomato is related to its high consumption worldwide and also its nutritive value. Presently the most important virus diseases responsible for yield losses on tomato crops in Brazil are those caused by begomovirus and crinivirus, both transmitted by Bemisia tabaci biotype B. At the moment the prevalent species of begomovirus is Tomato severe rugose virus (ToSRV). From 2002 to 2004, researchers reported incidence of this virus in more than half of the symptomatic tomato samples collected in several Brazilian states. In 2006, a crinivirus, Tomato chlorosis virus (ToCV), was reported for the first time in Brazil, infecting tomato plants in the State of São Paulo and at present the virus occurs in several Brazilian states. The objectives of this study were to determine the minimum acquisition and inoculation access periods of ToSRV and ToCV by B. tabaci biotype B; identify the retention period of ToSRV in the insect; and the interaction of ToSRV and ToCV on the transmission by this aleyrodidae. It was also evaluated the effectiveness of the insecticide cartap hydrochloride in controlling the primary and secondary spread of ToSRV by B. tabaci biotype B on tomato plants in a greenhouse. Finally, it was evaluated the efficiency of Trialeurodes vaporariorum in the transmission of a Brazilian isolate of ToCV. The minimum acquisition and inoculation access periods for both viruses by B. tabaci biotype B were five minutes. The maximum retention time of ToSRV in B. tabaci biotype B was 25 days. The efficiency of a single adult of B. tabaci to simultaneously transmit ToSRV and ToCV to tomato plants was 44.7%, similar to the transmission of ToRSV (47.4%), and ToCV (44.7%) separately. T. vaporariorum was less efficient than B. tabaci on the transmission of ToCV. Using 40 insects per pot with two plants, transmission efficiencies were 57.7% and 100%, respectively. The insecticide cartap hydrochloride reduced secondary infection of ToSRV transmitted by B. tabaci biotype B, but was not effective in reducing the primary infection in tomato.

Full textOne of the main problems affecting the quality of life of citizens is traffic and traffic jam. Based on this problem, this report will investigate the current situation and verify the existence of this problem in the city of Lima, Peru. Likewise, a business idea will be proposed which will allow counteracting said condition. For that purpose, possible solutions were evaluated and recognized as an alternative means of transport to the bicycle, as the most appropriate micro mobility to attack this obstacle in our city. Mainly, the proposed solution that is offered throughout this report is the rental of bicycles belonging to habitants of Lima whom we will now call Landlords, to third parties called Tenants who will pay and access to said transports. In addition, this transaction would be carried out through a platform (application) that we will facilitate to contact bicycle applicants with people who want to rent their own. In order to validate and gather information, interviews and surveys were conducted that validated our hypotheses. Likewise, a price was set based on the base price of the competing companies. Finally, both financial projections and their analysis were made and finally, the viability was verified, in addition, the profitability of the project.

Flavor oscillations of neutral B mesons have been studied with e+e- annihilation data collected at center of mass energies near the [gamma](4S) at the PEP-II asymmetric collider with the BABAR detector. One B⁰ is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay to a flavor eigenstate. The flavor of the other B in the event is determined using an inclusive tagging algorithm which exploits the correlations between the flavor of the b quark and the charges of its decay products. By fitting the decay-time distribution of the observed mixed and unmixed final states, the oscillation frequency, [Delta]md, is determined to be 0.516 +/- 0.016 (stat.) +/- 0.010 (syst.) ps-l.

Full textPeriodontal disease is one of the most widespread diseases in humans and is characterised by chronic gingival inflammation and B cell accumulation and resorption of the crest of alveolar bone with subsequent loss of teeth. Porphyromonas gingivalis has been identified as a putative aetiological agent for periodontitis. The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to investigate, using in vitro systems, the responses of autoreactive B-1 and B-2 cells to enterobacterial and nonenterobacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to shed light on the pathogenesis of chronic periodontitis and other diseases involving B cell accumulation and autoantibody production. The hypotheses tested were: (1) B cells respond differently to enterobacterial and non-enterobacterial LPS. (2) B-1 cells are activated by a lower concentration of LPS than B-2 cells. (3) LPS stimulation results in preferential accumulation of B-1 cells. Findings consistent with these hypotheses would provide new evidence for different roles for B-1 and B-2 cells in immune responses and that LPS stimulation could lead to B-1 cell accumulation in diseases thus characterised. Initial experiments investigated the responses of representative B-1 (CH12) and B-2 (WEHI-279) cell lines to preparations of P. gingivalis and Salmonella enteritidis LPS utilising flow cytometric and quantitative molecular methods. The cell lines responded differently to the two LPS preparations. There were significant but limited effects on viability and proliferation in the WEHI-279 cell line, but no significant changes in mRNA expression levels for genes including Toll-like receptors (TLR2, TLR4, RP105), immunoglobulin (IgM), cytokines (IL-6, IL-10), co-stimulatory molecules (CD80, CD86), and regulators of apoptosis (Bcl-2, Bax). In the CH12 cell line however, LPS stimulation had greater effect. Addition of S. enteritidis LPS from a threshold level of 100ng/mL was found to rescue the cells from death, reflected by the percentage viability and proliferation. Stimulation of CH12 cells with S. enteritidis LPS also led to a decrease in expression of RP105 mRNA, which may be part of a negative feedback loop. Interestingly, stimulation with low concentrations P. gingivalis LPS appeared to inhibit proliferation but high LPS concentrations stimulated proliferation of CH12 cells, although no further significant effects were noted in other analyses. Evidence was found that CH12 cells have a high basal level of activation. This suggests that this line is constitutively activated. Stimulation with P. gingivalis or S. enteritidis LPS did not affect the level of CD80 mRNA expression. It is possible that the CH12 line constitutively expresses a maximal level of CD80 (and possibly CD86) and further stimulation will not cause any increase. Since S. enteritidis LPS appeared to have more pronounced effects on both B cell populations, this LPS was used to further investigate B cell subset responses in a mixed splenocyte culture system. Experiments examining percentage viability and number of viable cells indicated that B-1 and B-2 B cells responded differently to LPS stimulation. A threshold level for B-2 cell response (significant increase in cell number) was found to be 100ng/mL LPS, in contrast to the B-1 B cell subset which were only significantly different to the unstimulated cells when stimulated with 50μg/mL LPS. By examining the expression of CD80, the majority of murine splenic B-1 cells were found to activated prior to any LPS stimulation in vitro. In contrast, the B-2 subset showed significant increase in CD80 expression only at high (≥10μg/mL) LPS concentrations. Studies of the division index of B-1 and B-2 cells showed a significant response in both subsets following stimulation with 1μg/mL and 10μg/mL LPS. However, overall, the results are inconsistent with LPS driving the preferential accumulation of B-1 cells in disease states. These experiments provided useful evidence that supported the idea that B-1 and B-2 cells respond differently to LPS. However, these studies were unable to directly address the role of P. gingivalis LPS in periodontitis. It may be that P. gingivalis LPS could have different effects to S. enteritidis LPS on primary B cells. It is still possible that B-1 cells may be more sensitive to P. gingivalis, as opposed to S. enteritidis LPS. Studies by other groups have suggested that the TH1/TH2 profile is skewed towards TH2 in chronic periodontitis and that P. gingivalis may drive this shift via its ability to signal through TLR2 (and modulate TLR4 signalling). Further, recent studies in our laboratories have found that P. gingivalis gingipains are able to polyclonally activate B cells and to break down both IFNγ and IL-12. Future studies should further examine the effects of B-1 and B-2 interactions in the mixed lymphocyte system together with subsequent studies utilising human periodontitis biopsies. The results presented in this thesis, together with work undertaken by other investigators, suggests that LPS could perturb the normal homeostatic mechanisms of the B-1 B cell-subset and increase polyclonal activation therefore contributing to the genesis of pathologies such as chronic periodontitis.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has constantly promoted sustainable tourism development as well as played an important role since 1980; in addition, numerous standards were regulated accordingly. Under the impacts of both environment protection, energy saving and carbon reduction, the marketing strategy of numerous operators have been changes consequently. The ecological or environment lodging facilities gradually adopted by the people in this trade; nevertheless, there are still not appropriate criteria of green B&B for domestic lodge industry to carry out related strategies. One of the major aims of this study is to establish the criteria of green B&B and index of feasible implementation, and constitute index levels with fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP), as the major basis of conducting survey of adoption willingness of lodge operator in implementing environment protection strategy. Next, this study intends to explore the current status of environment strategy implemented by B&B manager as well as the factors influence the adoption willingness. Third, find out any other factors and significance that could affect the adoption willingness of B&B manager to carry out strategy. Fourth, this study intends to locate the factors and significance of influencing consumer in accepting environment protection strategy (lodging willingness). There are three research targets employed by the design method of this study, namely, representative experts and scholars in the related domain, for presenting construct index and significance degree; research model establishment of B&B manager, the green B&B index are used for interview and questionnaire survey methods, so as to confirm the aim of this study; and finally the research model establishment of lodge consumer, through hierarchical regression analysis and relevant statistic analysis, to explain significant meaning and reason of variables. The research result proves that green B&B index can be simplifies into eight main dimensions and concrete strategies (management and marketing, social participation and communication, energy management, water resources management, green purchase, solid waste treatment, green restaurant and lodge activities, natural and cultural resources), for reference by verification unit. Secondly, in the research model of B&B manager, environment knowledge behavior would influence the self-efficacy, and further affect the adoption willingness. For operator, the higher the compatibility of environment strategy is, the higher of adoption willingness will be. Finally, in the research model of consumer, the higher the frequency that consumer engaged in the environment related activity, the higher the willingness of selecting green B&B will be; while environment knowledge behavior would affect the perceived caracteristics of innovation, lodge preference, and attitude of engaging in environment activity of consumer. This study defines the implication of promoting green B&B development strategy is “to educate B&B managers attach more importance on environment ethics, and encourage consumer to change the attitude of recreation activity.” Furthermore, with the conception of simplified green lodge index, to direct towards tourism map planning of ecology village, apart from the unique features of “green B&B” image, to minimize the impact of recreation environment. By employing innovation diffusion theory (IDT) model in the behavior prediction of environment behavior and tourism behavior strategy, the result of this study could be served as a useful reference for following researches.

In this essay, I research the concept of B-time and Becoming with three parts. First, I introduce McTaggart's paradox to show the context of philosophy of time in modern time and to illustrate the standpoint and problems of A theory. Second, I would explain the solutions from B theorist and following problems and further explain how new B theorist deal with these problems. Finally, through the ontological analysis of B time and through dialectics of varied concept of Becoming of A theory, I construct the Becoming in B-time, which I call “B-becoming”.
