Chlorophyll a (Chl a) and phaeopigments a (Phaeo a) spatial distribution in the Western Black Sea was studied in relation to environmental factors and mesozooplankton community. For that purpose, CTD parameters, nutrients, chlorophyll pigments, and mesozooplankton total density and biomass were measured at 33 stations, distributed along the Romanian shelf waters, in June 2016. The studied area was divided into 4 subareas (NIS – northern inner shelf, NOS – northern outer shelf, SIS – southern inner shelf, and SOS – southern outer shelf). The hydrological r

All known phototrophic metabolisms on Earth rely on one of three categories of energy-converting pigments: chlorophyll-a (rarely -d), bacteriochlorophyll-a (rarely -b), and retinal, which is the chromophore in rhodopsins. While the significance of chlorophylls in solar energy capture has been studied for decades, the contribution of retinal-based phototrophy to this process remains largely unexplored. The motivation of this study is to serve as an alternative approach to most chlorophyll analysis studies that utilize overlay analysis with chlorophyll-a imaging. Mostly, the chlorophyll overlay analysis take many steps in processes, not to mention the bigger the observation duration for the data, the longer it takes to process. In this study, a spatial and temporal clustering analysis was conducted to obtain areas that have abundant chlorophyll-a. The spatial distribution was determined using the DBSCAN algorithm, while the temporal distribution was deter-mined via the fuzzy c-means algorithm

ABSTRACTOne of the parameters determining productivity in the sea is chlorophyll-a. The fertility level of chlorophyll-a is closely related to the concentration of chlorophyll-a. The higher the concentration of chlorophyll-a, the higher the water fertility level, conversely, if chlorophyll-a is low, the water fertility level will also be low. One factor influencing growth rate and chlorophyll-a production is temperature. Chlorophyll-a is a parameter which can be used to understand the trophic state of water bodies. Therefore, monitoring of this parameter is required. Yet, distribution of chlorophyll-a in water bodies is not homogeneous and exhibits both spatial and temporal variations. Therefore, frequent sampling and high sample sizes are needed for the determination of chlorophyll-a quantities. This would in return increase the sampling costs and labor requirement, especially if the topography makes the location hard to reach. Abstract The presence of chlorophyll c is a basic characteristic of the Chromophyte algae. Two light-harvesting chlorophyll c species are known, c 1 and c 2, which differ from all other chlorophylls in being porphyrin rather than chlorin derivatives. Structural similarities to the known chlorophyll a precursors, Mg 2,4-divinyl pheophorphyrin a 5 monomethyl ester (Mg 2,4D) and protochlorophyllide a, suggest that chlorophyll c biosynthesis may occur as a closely related branch of the biosynthetic pathway to chlorophyll a.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Postharvest losses of fresh produce are estimated globally to be around 30%. Reducing these losses is considered a major solution to ensure global food security. Storage at low temperatures is an efficient practice to prolong postharvest performance of crops with minimal negative impact on produce quality or human health and the environment. However, many fresh produce commodities are susceptible to chilling temperatures, and the application of cold storage is limited as it would cause physiological chilling injury (CI) leading to reduced produce quality. Further, the primary CI becom
