The high affinity choline transporter (CHT1) is responsible for choline uptake, which is derived from acetylcholine degradation, in the synaptic cleft of cholinergic neurons. CHT1 activity is very important since cholinergic neurons have very low ability to synthesize acetylcholine de novo. Although CHT1 is mainly a plasma membrane transporter, it is found predominantly recycling between intracellular vesicles and the cell surface. Cellular trafficking seems to play an important role in the transporter activity. In the present experiments, we identified proteins that might interact with CHT1,

Abstract:
Myc is a transcription factor frequently found deregulated in human cancer. Cells with deregulated expression of Myc carry a selective advantage against its neighbours due to the fact that Myc-mediated transcription governs crucial cellular events such as proliferation and growth. In addition, Myc has been implicated in several other aspects of tumour biology like cellular immortality, the formation of new blood vessels and the colonization of distant tissues through the process of metastasis. Therapy aimed at disrupting essential pathways regulated by Myc is important because of the many diff

Canada fortifies certain products with folic acid and has periconceptional supplementation guidelines – policies designed to improve folate status and reduce the incidence of poor birth outcomes. Though optimal folate concentrations have been linked to health benefits, concerns have been raised regarding potential associations with adverse health outcomes. Direct biochemical assessment of the folate status of Canadians based on a nationally representative sample has not been done in more than 40 years. The overall purpose of this research was to investigate the folate status of the Canadian po

Abstract:
This work is focused on the study of Polypurine Reverse Hoogsteen hairpins (PPRHs) as a gene silencing tool, and on the search of alternative methods for their delivery, including viral and non-viral vectors. PPRHs are single stranded non-modified DNA hairpins formed by two antiparallel polypurine mirror repeat strands linked by five thymidines and bound intramolecularly by Hoogsteen bonds. These hairpins can bind specifically to a pyrimidine target sequence in genomic DNA and induce the displacement of the purine strand, resulting in the inhibition of gene expression.
