Abstract:
Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells are widely used for mass production of therapeutic proteins in the pharmaceutical industry. With the growing need in optimizing the performance of producer CHO cell lines, research on CHO cell line development and bioprocess continues to increase in recent decades. Bibliographic mapping and classification of relevant research studies will be essential for identifying research gaps and trends in literature. To qualitatively and quantitatively understand the CHO literature, we have conducted topic modeling using a CHO bioprocess bibliome manually compiled in 2016, and compared the topics uncovered by the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) models with the human labels of the CHO bibliome. The results show a significant overlap between the manually selected categories and computationally generated topics, and reveal the machine-generated topic-specific characteristics. To identify relevant CHO bioprocessing papers from new scientific literature, we have developed supervized models using Logistic Regression to identify specific article topics and evaluated the results using three CHO bibliome datasets, Bioprocessing set, Glycosylation set, and Phenotype set. The use of top terms as features supports the explainability of document classification results to yield insights on new CHO bioprocessing papers.

Abstract:
Objective: To explore the value of multi-voxel-based monomer 1H-MRS (magnetic resonance imaging) in the classification of gliomas. Methods: 26 gliomas confirmed by surgery and pathology were examined by conventional MRI, multi-voxel 2D, and monomer 1H-MRS before surgery. Three types of regions of interest (ROI) were used to measure Cho/NAA (Choline hydroxide solution/N-acetyl aspartic acid) values in the tumor. Methods: In the multi-voxel 2D hydrogen proton spectrum, the solid part of the tumor or the most intensive region of the tumor was selected to determine the Cho/NAA value. At the same time, in the multi-voxel 2D hydrogen proton spectrum, the Fun/tool spectra's copy-2DBmin analysis software was used to obtain the Cho/NAA value distribution. Anatomically superimposed the pseudo-color image, and measure the Cho/NAA value in its largest Cho/NAA value region. In addition, based on the level set algorithm, it uses the Otsu algorithm to initially locate the edema area and provide the initial contour. Results: The Cho/NAA values measured by the ROI selection method were statistically significant, and the sensitivity and specificity of judging the benign and malignant gliomas indicated that Method 3 had the highest diagnostic value. Conclusion: Multi-voxel-based monomeric 1H-MRS magnetic resonance imaging has the highest value in guiding glioma classification and can improve the accuracy of glioma classification.

Abstract:
Evaluation of cellular protein localization is becoming progressively important. Even after the whole human genome has been sequenced, numerous years will be required to study the structure, function, and each protein localization. Localization information is very important because it provides a context for a protein’s structural and functional information. For instance, two proteins that possess comparatively similar function and structure may in fact be found in different compartments within the cell hence, these might be included in unrelated cellular processes. Localization data for several proteins were collected using fluorescence microscopy. The resulting patterns were described using a variety of numeric features including local binary pattern (LBP), Haralick’s texture features, edge histogram descriptor (EHD), Segmentation-based Fractal Texture Analysis (SFTA) and after that these features were combined to form a single feature vector. This feature vector is then given as input to the classifier to classify the image into 10 different classes for 2D Hela dataset and into 5 classes for CHO dataset. Support vector machine (SVM) with chi-square kernel is used to solve the classification problem. Proposed frame-work obtained 98.9% overall accuracy on Hela dataset and 99.6% on CHO dataset. The obtained accuracy is 0.9% higher on 2D Hela dataset and 0.6% higher on CHO dataset as compared to highest computed accuracy.

Abstract BACKGROUND Positron emission tomography (PET) is important in noninvasive diagnostic imaging of gliomas. There are many PET studies on glioma diagnosis based on the 2007 World Health Organization (WHO) classification; however, there are no studies on glioma diagnosis using the new classification (the 2016 WHO classification). Here we investigated the relationship between PET imaging using 11C-methionine (MET), 11C-choline (CHO), and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and wildtype isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) (IDH-wt)/mutant IDH (IDH-mut) in astrocytic and oligodendroglial tumors according to the 2016 WHO classification. MATERIAL AND METHODS In total, 105 patients with newly diagnosed cerebral gliomas (six diffuse astrocytomas [DAs] with IDH-wt, six DAs with IDH-mut, seven anaplastic astrocytomas [AAs] with IDH-wt, 24 AAs with IDH-mut, 26 glioblastomas [GBMs] with IDH-wt, five GBMs with IDH-mut, 19 oligodendrogliomas [ODs], and 12 anaplastic oligodendrogliomas [AOs]) were included. All OD and AO patients had both IDH-mut and 1p/19q codeletion. The maximum standardized uptake values (SUVs) of the tumor/normal cortex mean SUV ratios (T/N ratios) for MET, CHO, and FDG were calculated; the mean T/N ratios of DA, AA, and GBM with IDH-wt/IDH-mut were compared. The diagnostic accuracy for distinguishing gliomas with IDH-wt from those with IDH-mut was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis of the mean T/N ratios for the three PET tracers. RESULTS There were significant differences in the mean T/N ratios for all three PET tracers between the IDH-wt and IDH-mut groups including all histological classifications (p<0.001). Among the 27 gliomas with mean T/N ratios higher than the cutoff values for all three PET tracers, 23 (85.2%) were classified into the IDH-wt group using ROC analysis. In DA, there were no significant differences in the T/N ratios for MET, CHO, and FDG between the IDH-wt and IDH-mut groups. In AA, the mean T/N ratios of all three PET tracers in the IDH-wt group were significantly higher than those in the IDH-mut group (p<0.001). In GBM, the mean T/N ratio in the IDH-wt group was significantly higher than that of the IDH-mut group for both MET (p=0.034) and CHO (p=0.01). However, there was no significant difference in the ratio for FDG. CONCLUSIONS PET imaging using MET, CHO, and FDG was confirmed to be informative for preoperatively differentiating gliomas according to the 2016 WHO classification, particularly for differentiating IDH-wt and IDH-mut tumors.

Abstract:
AbstractThe glycaemic index (GI) concept was originally introduced to classify different sources of carbohydrate (CHO)-rich foods, usually having an energy content of >80 % from CHO, to their effect on post-meal glycaemia. It was assumed to apply to foods that primarily deliver available CHO, causing hyperglycaemia. Low-GI foods were classified as being digested and absorbed slowly and high-GI foods as being rapidly digested and absorbed, resulting in different glycaemic responses. Low-GI foods were found to induce benefits on certain risk factors for CVD and diabetes. Accordingly it has been proposed that GI classification of foods and drinks could be useful to help consumers make ‘healthy food choices’ within specific food groups. Classification of foods according to their impact on blood glucose responses requires a standardised way of measuring such responses. The present review discusses the most relevant methodological considerations and highlights specific recommendations regarding number of subjects, sex, subject status, inclusion and exclusion criteria, pre-test conditions, CHO test dose, blood sampling procedures, sampling times, test randomisation and calculation of glycaemic response area under the curve. All together, these technical recommendations will help to implement or reinforce measurement of GI in laboratories and help to ensure quality of results. Since there is current international interest in alternative ways of expressing glycaemic responses to foods, some of these methods are discussed.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The locative suffix -ni: In this article we discuss two hypotheses about the origin of the locative suffix -ni. The better known hypothesis (Raum 1909; Meinhof 1941/42) assumes that the suffix -(i)ni developed out of a class 18 demonstrative, though the details of the assumed phonological changes have never been made clear. The competing hypothesis by Sacleux (1939) suggests that locative nouns with -ni started out as compounds with the noun ini `liver´. We think that this second hypothesis is phonologically more plausible and that it also accounts for the specific link with the meaning of class 18 `inside´. Comparison of the spread of the locative suffix -(i)ni and of the word ini `liver´, together with other historical considerations, point to Kiswahili (or Sabaki) as the most likely origin of this locative suffix.

Abstract:
In this dissertation we developed theoretical models to analyse Gaussian and multinomial distributions. The analysis is focused on classification in high dimensional feature spaces and provides a basis for dealing with issues such as data sparsity and feature selection (for Gaussian and multinomial distributions, two frequently used models for high dimensional applications). A Naïve Bayesian philosophy is followed to deal with issues associated with the curse of dimensionality. The core treatment on Gaussian and multinomial models consists of finding analytical expressions for classification error performances. Exact analytical expressions were found for calculating error rates of binary class systems with Gaussian features of arbitrary dimensionality and using any type of quadratic decision boundary (except for degenerate paraboloidal boundaries). Similarly, computationally inexpensive (and approximate) analytical error rate expressions were derived for classifiers with multinomial models. Additional issues with regards to the curse of dimensionality that are specific to multinomial models (feature sparsity) were dealt with and tested on a text-based language identification problem for all eleven official languages of South Africa.<br>Thesis (M.Ing. In ASME 2009 Fluids Engineering Division Summer Meeting. ASMEDC, 2009. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/fedsm2009-78353.

Full text
Abstract:
Nowadays, continuous casting is extremely conditioned by sequences of different steel grades that produce a large amount of intermixed steel. Due to customer requirements, steel producers are forced to deliver a few slabs of high-specialized steels, so the number of castings handling steels of dissimilar grades has been significantly increased in recent years. As a consequence, manufacturers are particularly concerned with the development of practical methods to know exactly where the mixed regions begin and end, in order to make a precise classification of the steel grade that has been produced and avoid further downgrading. Pioneering works by Huang and Thomas introduced a 1-D model to estimate the intermixed region during a grade transition. This model reached a notable popularity because of its ability to provide on-line predictions, though it is assumed that mixing inside the tundish is globally determined with a number of fixed parameters. Recently, Cho and Kim have introduced a modification reducing the number of parameters required, but with the full unsteady description of the tundish flow still unresolved. Moreover, all these models require experimental calibration, using the results from full-scale water models. Additionally, other researchers have been focused on the development of numerical simulations to analyze the flow structures and mixing features of the tundish, mainly during stable operation, but using limiting simplifications and/or steady schemes. In the present investigation, to the author’s knowledge, a 3D, unsteady numerical simulation using a volume-of-fluid formulation is carried out for the first time. With this technique, the transient behavior of the tundish during the ladle change can be fully modelled, tracking the free surface and extending the computations towards the steady state. A transport equation is resolved for a non-reactive scalar, representing a dimensionless concentration, so it is possible to predict the mixing degree of the steel at the tundish exit for different operating conditions. The final objective is the development of an off-line methodology to estimate precise intermixing periods during grade transition in continuous casting.

Abstract:
In this project, classification of IoT network traffic using random forest classifier is proposed. More-dataset is utilized to separate the IoT traffic classification. Data preprocessing is the concept of changing the raw data into a clean data set. The dataset is preprocessed in order to check missing values, noisy data, and other inconsistencies before executing it to the algorithm. Extraction takes place using Chi-square based feature extraction. To improve classification, the extraction regions are processed using the Chi- Square technique to extract several features and select the necessary features. This project uses the effective Chi-square technique to find feature extraction and feature selection. Finally, the selected features are fed into an extra tree and random forest classifier for accurate classification. This project is implemented using Python software.

Abstract:
Objective: The objective of this study was to compare BI-RADS® magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in relation to BI-RADS® mammography (MMG) and ultrasonography (USG) from previous exams, determining the level of agreement between the three methods. Methodology: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study of examinations of women with indications for MRI in an imaging clinic in the city of Goiânia, GO, from 2021 to 2022. The sample was divided according to the BI-RADS® classification into two groups, one with low suspicion for classifications 1, 2, and 3 and another with high suspicion for classifications 0, 4, 5, and 6. The distribution of the sample profile in patients with BI-RADS® MRI low suspicion and high suspicion was tested by applying Pearson’s chi-square test, relative frequency, and absolute frequency. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 26.0) with a significance level of 5% (p&lt;0.05). Results: A total of 294 MRI scans were evaluated, of which 136 (46.3%) had previous MMG and 158 (53.7%) had previous USG. Comparing the BI-RADS® MRI classification with the BI-RADS® of previous high-suspicion exams, it was observed that both were concordant (p&lt;0.01), with 60% BI-RADS® MMG and 57.1% USG. Regarding the change in the BI-RADS classification, in 17.8% of the BI-RADS® of the MMG and USG exams as low suspicion after MRI, it changed to high suspicion; 18.7% of BI-RADS® from MMG and USG exams as high suspicion after MRI changed to low suspicion; 11.6% of BI-RADS® from MMG and USG exams as high suspicion after MRI had alteration, but remained in high suspicion; and 51.7% of BI-RADS® from MMG and USG exams as low suspicion after MRI had alteration, but remained in low suspicion. Conclusion: Comparison of BI-RADS® MRI with BI-RADS® from previous exams shows the agreement factor in the detection of high suspicion for breast analysis.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The correlation of rock mechanical properties from one well to another across an area of interest poses a classical and ongoing problem in rock mechanics. This work illustrates identification of the mechanical layers/zones in a geothermal reservoir using unsupervised machine learning (ML) techniques. Mechanical stratigraphy was defined using well logs obtained from three wells located at the Utah FORGE geothermal site: 58-32, 16A(78)-32 and 16B(78)-32. The widely accepted unsupervised ML techniques including K-means clustering, Gaussian mixture models, and DBSCAN (density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise) were utilized to generate the rock classes based on similarities/differences in mechanical attributes. The rock mechanical classifications were performed using a combination of parameters including measured log data (compressional and shear wave interval transit times) and augmented features such as Poisson's ratio, and Young's modulus. The performance of ML clustering models were evaluated using Silhouette index (SI) and Davies-Bouldin index (DBI) criteria. The evaluation measures of predicted classification reflected the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed ML approaches to generate mechanical stratigraphy. Evaluation measures SS and DBI represent the good quality and reliability of proposed classification with higher SI, CHI, and lower DBI scores. The best performance for the proposed clustering model was exhibited by K-means algorithm with SI, DBI and CHI scores of 0.86, 0.4, and 79, respectively. The proposed mechanical units cluster models were observed to be consistent with the lithological stratigraphy of the studied wells. This approach is therefore shown to provide efficient and reliable identification of mechanical stratigraphy for FORGE with the capability for application across a wide range of subsurface reservoirs. 1. INTRODUCTION Rocks are formed in different lithostratigraphic units that have a wide range of mechanical characteristics (Boersma et al., 2020). According to Ferrill et al. (2017) and Smart et al. (2014). The mechanical characteristics are often described in terms of stiffness and strength properties, including elastic parameters, tensile strength, and compressive strength (Roche et al., 2013).

Brown, Yolanda, Twonia Goyer, and Maragaret Harvey. Heart Failure 30-Day Readmission Frequency, Rates, and HF Classification. University of Tennessee Health Science Center, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.21007/con.dnp.2020.0002.

Full text
Abstract:
30 Day Hospital Readmission Rates, Frequencies, and Heart Failure Classification for Patients with Heart Failure Background Congestive heart failure (CHF) is the leading cause of mortality, morbidity, and disability worldwide among patients. Both the incidence and the prevalence of heart failure are age dependent and are relatively common in individuals 40 years of age and older. CHF is one of the leading causes of inpatient hospitalization readmission in the United States, with readmission rates remaining above the 20% goal within 30 days. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services imposes a 3% reimbursement penalty for excessive readmissions including those who are readmitted within 30 days from prior hospitalization for heart failure. Hospitals risk losing millions of dollars due to poor performance. A reduction in CHF readmission rates not only improves healthcare system expenditures, but also patients’ mortality, morbidity, and quality of life. Purpose The purpose of this DNP project is to determine the 30-day hospital readmission rates, frequencies, and heart failure classification for patients with heart failure. Specific aims include comparing computed annual re-admission rates with national average, determine the number of multiple 30-day re-admissions, provide descriptive data for demographic variables, and correlate age and heart failure classification with the number of multiple re-admissions. Methods A retrospective chart review was used to collect hospital admission and study data. The setting occurred in an urban hospital in Memphis, TN. The study was reviewed by the UTHSC Internal Review Board and deemed exempt. The electronic medical records were queried from July 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019 for heart failure ICD-10 codes beginning with the prefix 150 and a report was generated. Data was cleaned such that each patient admitted had only one heart failure ICD-10 code. The total number of heart failure admissions was computed and compared to national average. Using age ranges 40-80, the number of patients re-admitted withing 30 days was computed and descriptive and inferential statistics were computed using Microsoft Excel and R. Results A total of 3524 patients were admitted for heart failure within the six-month time frame. Of those, 297 were re-admitted within 30 days for heart failure exacerbation (8.39%). An annual estimate was computed (16.86%), well below the national average (21%). Of those re-admitted within 30 days, 50 were re-admitted on multiple occasions sequentially, ranging from 2-8 re-admissions. The median age was 60 and 60% male. Due to the skewed distribution (most re-admitted twice), nonparametric statistics were used for correlation. While graphic display of charts suggested a trend for most multiple re-admissions due to diastolic dysfunction and least number due to systolic heart failure, there was no statistically significant correlation between age and number or multiple re-admissions (Spearman rank, p = 0.6208) or number of multiple re-admissions and heart failure classification (Kruskal Wallis, p =0.2553).

Full text
Abstract:
The Automated and Integrated Seafloor Classification Workflow (AI-SCW) is a semi-automated underwater image processing pipeline that has been customized for use in classifying the seafloor into semantic habitat categories. The current implementation has been tested against a sequence of underwater images collected by the Ocean Floor Observation System (OFOS), in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone of the Pacific Ocean. Despite this, the workflow could also be applied to images acquired by other platforms such as an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), or Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The modules in AI-SCW have been implemented using the python programming language, specifically using libraries such as scikit-image for image processing, scikit-learn for machine learning and dimensionality reduction, keras for computer vision with deep learning, and matplotlib for generating visualizations. Therefore, AI-SCW modularized implementation allows users to accomplish a variety of underwater computer vision tasks, which include: detecting laser points from the underwater images for use in scale determination; performing contrast enhancement and color normalization to improve the visual quality of the images; semi-automated generation of annotations to be used downstream during supervised classification; training a convolutional neural network (Inception v3) using the generated annotations to semantically classify each image into one of pre-defined seafloor habitat categories; evaluating sampling strategies for generation of balanced training images to be used for fitting an unsupervised k-means classifier; and visualization of classification results in both feature space view and in map view geospatial co-ordinates. Thus, the workflow is useful for a quick but objective generation of image-based seafloor habitat maps to support monitoring of remote benthic ecosystems.

Full text
Abstract:
As more cities embark on climate-neutral trajectories, it is important to understand how actions will impact all stakeholders in a city: citizens and industry, as well as government agencies operating at the regional and national level. Here we offer an overview of scientific literature exploring the co-impacts of climate action in urban settings, both positive and negative. Additionally, we introduce a classification framework for structuring such co-impacts in Swedish cities. Our study reveals a predominant focus in the literature on the positive effects of climate action, neglecting potential adverse impacts. We find a pressing need to specify which city actors stand to benefit from specific climate interventions and which may be adversely affected. By understanding and addressing these impacts, cities can enhance the social acceptability of climate plans, facilitating their quicker implementation.

Abstract:
In this bibliometric study, we analyze the six battery research subfields identified in the BATTERY 2030+ roadmap: Battery Interface Genome, Materials Acceleration Platform, Recyclability, Smart functionalities: Self-healing, Smart functionalities: Sensing, and Manufacturability. In addition, we analyze the entire research field related to BATTERY 2030+ as a whole, using two operationalizations. We (a) evaluate the European standing in the subfields/the BATTERY 2030+ field in comparison to the rest of the world, and (b) identify strongholds of the subfields/the BATTERY 2030+ field across Europe. For each subfield and the field as a whole, we used seed articles, i.e. articles listed in the BATTERY 2030+ roadmap or cited by such articles, in order to generate additional, similar articles located in an algorithmically obtained classification system. The output of the analysis is publication volumes, field normalized citation impact values with comparisons between country/country aggregates and between organizations, co-publishing networks between countries and organizations, and keyword co-occurrence networks. For the results related to (a), the performance of EU &amp; associated (countries) is similar to China and the aggregate Japan-South Korea-Singapore and well below North America regarding citation impact and with respect to the field as a whole. Exceptions are, however, the subfields Battery Interface Genome and Recyclability. For the results related to (b), there is a large variability in the EU &amp; associated organizations regarding volume in the different subfields. For citation impact, examples of high-performing EU &amp; associated organizations are ETH Zurich and Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science.

This report presents a statistical analysis of the Regulated Substances Library (RSL) developed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The RSL is comprised of surficial soil chemistry data obtained from rights-of-way subsurface soil sampling conducted for routine preliminary site investigations. The 3.7-million-record RSL database is compared with four independent studies of inorganic soil constituents of naturally occurring soils in Illinois. A selection of 22 inorganic soil analytes are examined in this study: Al, Sb, As, Ba, Be, Cd, Ca, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mg, Mn, Hg, Ni, K, Se, Na, Tl, V, and Zn. RSL database summary statistics, mean, median, minimum, maximum, 5th percentile, and 95th percentile, are determined for Illinois counties and for recognized environmental concern, non-recognized environmental concern, and de minimis site contamination classifications. The RSL database at a 95% confidence level is compared with current and proposed thresholds for defining naturally occurring soil concentrations for the selected analytes. The revised thresholds proposed by Cahill in 2017 are predominantly larger than the current standards found in the Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives rules and are in better agreement with observed distributions of soil concentrations for both naturally occurring and RSL soils. A notable exception is antimony (Sb), for which Cahill proposed a reduced threshold similar in magnitude to the median for many Illinois Department of Transportation districts.

Abstract:
European societies need to increase the participation in work over the life course to support the provision of qualified labour and to meet the challenges for social security systems under the condition of their ageing populations. One of the key ambitions is to extend people’s working lives and to postpone labour market exit and retirement where possible. This requires informed policies, and the research programme EIWO – ‘Exclusion and Inequality in Late Working Life: Evidence for Policy Innovation towards Inclusive Extended Work and Sustainable Working Conditions in Sweden and Europe’ – aims to push the boundaries of knowledge about late working life and the potential of its inclusive and equal prolongation via a theoretically driven, gender-sensitive combination of multi-level perspectives. EIWO takes a life course approach on exclusion and inequality by security of tenure, quality of work, workplaces, and their consequences. It identifies life course policies, promoting lifelong learning processes and flexible adaptation to prolong working lives and to avoid increased exclusion and inequality. Moreover, it provides evidence for policies to ensure both individual, company and societal benefits from longer lives. To do so, EIWO orientates its analyses systematically to the macro-political contexts at the European Union level and to the policy goals expressed in the respective official statements, reports and plans. This report systematizes this ambitious approach. Relevant documents such as reports, green books and other publications of the European Commission (EC), the European Parliament (EP), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as those of social partners and research institutions, have been systematically scanned and evaluated. In addition, relevant decisions of European summits have been considered. The selection of documents claims completeness regarding relevant and generally available publication, while relevance is defined from the point of view of EIWO’s interests. It is the aim of this report to provide a sound knowledge base for EIWO’s analyses and impact strategies and to contribute to the emerging research on the connection between population ageing and the European policies towards productivity, inclusiveness, equity, resilience and sustainability. This report aims to answer the following questions: How are EIWO’s conceptual classification and programme objectives reflected in the European Union’s policy programming? How can EIWO’s analyses and impact benefit from a reference to current EU policy considerations, and how does this focus support the outline of policy options and the formulating of possible proposals to Swedish and European stakeholders? The present report was written during early 2022; analyses were finalized in February 2022 and represent the status until this date.
