Full textThe object of this study presented in this thesis is the representation of unemployment. This research has been made within a population composed of employed and unemployed peoples. Knowing that the function of social representation is to explain the reality people are dealing with in view of allowing social communication, what interesed us was to know what was the content and structure of this representation of unemployment, that is to say opinions and key attitudes related to it. Taking into account people's status and ages, our starting point is the idea that, in all probability, it exists a commonly shared representation of unemployment, but its levels of activation vary depending on which group people belong to. Results show that the representation of unemployment has a shared multidimensional content underlaid by four fields of significant allowing communication between the different groups. This representation has key elements commonly shared by the overall groups but with various significant depending on the socio-economical sphere

Full textThe aim of our first part work is to operate a long-term unemployed workers identification. Indeed, the sociological and statistical investigation of this category unemployment as also his economical and social treatment since the job crisis permits for us to surround all hers main characteristics. The formation which is to be important ine the action plan government for to ameliorate skills and qualification had not yield the anticipate effects about the affected population. So, the study skills and qualification will to contribute to finish off the identification. Owing to microsociological approach, the second part consists at first to define the long-term unemployed strategic situations, in a social, family and residential space. After, through the social mobility, we analyse the differente trajectories and origins on the unemployed professionnal futur. In this purpose, we lent on an interview and semi-guiding questionnaire with a sample aleatory composed by fifty persons who comes from one of four big urban zones of toulouse. We distinguish this sample by his residential, social and cultural diversity. We have determined three strategies or logical actions about this population. Logical actions study is the particularity of this second part. One of these strategies is singular and, as a matter of fact, its induce a behaviour type wich is a person own. To accept the unemployment conditions or to negotiate a little chance for succeeding is one of these strategies

Full textUnemployed people possess a spoiled identity. They carry a negative label that can lead them to be considered fundamentally different from the rest of society, to be the target of stereotype, prejudice and discrimination, especially in situations of power asymmetry (access to public services; to employment; to housing; to credit... etc). The stigmatization of unemployed people is little studied in the scientific literature. For this reason, we have approached it first from a macro-societal point of view, then from the perspective of people who may stigmatize, and finally from the perspective of people who may be the target of stigmatization. We first report on the media images of "the unemployed" in the French written press from 2005 to 2022 (Study 1). Then, we map their stereotype in the populations of students and professional integration workers (study 2); and study the determinants of the attitude of "the unemployed", its mediators and moderators, among professional integration workers (study 3). Finally, we conduct a victimization survey among a representative sample of people registered in category A of the French Public Employment Service France travail (study 4); and we look specifically at the process of stigma consciousness as well as its links (study 5). Overall, we show that the stigma of unemployment is partly (re)produced through the French print media, that it is shared and well known, but that there are ways to mitigate its effects. This stigma leads unemployed people to experience, anticipate, and internalize stigmatization, which in turn is associated with potential negative consequences such as a loss of self-efficacy, self-esteem and health, all of which unemployed people need most during their period of unemployment to find a job

Full text@Structuring identity in the world of work. A clinical analysis of professionality : based both on the work of DUBAR and SAINSAULIEU into professional identity and our own experience of counselling the unemployed, this thesis in clinical psychology analyses the principles structuring professionality. The starting points of this thesis are work and participation. The former is seen under its dual guises of chlore and freedom, as well as being a form of subjective investment ; the latter as a dialectical relationship between retribution and contribution ; Central to the analysis are the theories of the social bond which consider work as both a direct and indirect mediator for the individual. In this way, work, profession and trade are seen as areas in which the individual can become fully involved, giving professional activity its contingent and singular nature. Our reading of professionnality brings together individual accounts and academic works on employees' professional integration along the following three lines ; : risk (from anticipation to personal investment) ; social bond (peer groups and how they are formed) ; authorisation (values which the individual attributes to his position and the use s/he makes of professional recognition). This approach allows us to do two things. Firstly, to draw up different individual strategies, showing how the jobseekers and employees take a proactive part in professionality, and secondly, to analyse the various tools and ressources that are available on professional integration and counselling

Full textJob search assistance plays an essential role among the array of public policies aimed at tackling unemployement. It can however also magnify the stigma against the unemployed with active labour market policies and accountability given to the unemployed. Nevertheless, the need for positive self-perception is crucial, pushing each individual, especially the stigmatized, to process self-related information in a partial and biased way, producing a favourable representation of themselves in theirs environment. Our research examines the nature and scope of jobseeker's (JS) self-image preservation strategies in a job search assistance program. 267 JS - and their counselors - were interviewed at the beginning and the end of the program, through a specific questionnaire assessing their understanding of employment and employability, their perception of the program and their own employability evaluation. The results confirm the "activity" of the JS during the program, constructing "theories" of employability and employment according to their own perceived probability of employment. It directly influences their attitudes towards the program and its outcome. Moreover, the influence of the conselor is clear : his or her beliefs in a "collective / supporting" theory will produce greater mobilization than a belief in a " individualizing / empowering" theory

Full textThis thesis aims to provide a comprehensive framework in the study of identity consequences of unemployment on vocational rehabilitation. Part I offers a review of the literature rooted in the theories of the Self, and points to the interest of taking into account future time perspective in the study of unemployment and reintegration. Part II takes an interest in the jobseekers’ stereotypes (Manuscript 1) and shows the negative impact of unemployment on current and future self-concepts of jobseekers (Manuscript 2). It also deals with the influence of identification processes –actual to the in-group and future to the out-group of workers- on the pessimism of job-seekers (Manuscript 3). A last manuscript aims at identifying specific identification profiles and study their impact on perceived stress (Shortnote 1). Studies presented in Part III focus on job search antecedents. A first manuscript presents the creation and validation of a new measure of the motivation to work again (manuscript 4). Two other manuscripts deal with another important construct – the Consideration for Future Consequences-, the first with the objective of validating a version of the tool in French (Manuscript 5) and the second with the aim of showing the interest to consider this construct at a contextual level of generality (Manuscript 6). Those two new measures helped to test for a temporal model of job search that is presented in a last manuscript (Shortnote 2). The fourth part focuses her to present the first elements which argue in favor of identification influence on the temporal job search model. A discussion on the contributions and openings of this doctoral work concludes this document

Full textThis research was conducted in partnership with the Agence Nouvelle des Solidarités Actives. It aims at understanding and explaining the diversity of future perspectives that individuals have when facing situations of precariousness and receiving the French allowance called « Revenu de Solidarité Active » or RSA. Referring to the theoretical model of an active socialization we hypothesize that the impact of precariousness dynamics on individuals' professional projects and on their emotional attitude towards the future depends on the meanings they give to the personal resources (self-esteem) and the interpersonal resources (social support and representations of support from RSA) they mobilize (or not) in different times and domains of their lives. To test this hypothesis, we collected empirical data from 172 individuals benefiting from RSA in the French area of Hérault with a questionnaire. The results led us to define five types of professional projects: "selective access to stable employment”, "upward mobility", "preparation for retirement", "deferred access to employment" and "professional achievement". These professional projects are linked to individuals' projects in their personal, social and family areas. We observed that dynamics of precariousness situations – "downgrading", "exclusion" or "instability" – influence the type of professional project they formulate and their attitude towards the future. However, this influence varies according to their self-esteem and to the support they perceive they get together with RSA. After having established those results, we discussed some proposals to improve the implementation and evolution of RSA
