Abstract:
AbstractThe magnetobiostratigraphy study of the 130-m-thick Zújar section (Negratı́n clays unit, Guadix-Baza Basin, Spain) provides a remarkable opportunity to improve the correlation of European mammal biostratigraphy to the Geomagnetic Polarity Time Scale. The occurrence of 12 well-defined magnetozones and four paleontological sites with diagnostic faunas ranging from the MN 15 biozone (Ruscinian) to the MN 17 biozone (Villanyian), leads to an unambiguous correlation to chrons spanning from the Gilbert to the Matuyama epochs. This provides two new time constraints: (1) the boundary between MN 15 (Ruscinian) and MN 16 (Villanyian) biozones is recorded between chron C2An.3n and the base of chron C2An.2n and (2) the boundary between the upper and lower MN 16 subzones (Villanyian) is located between chron C2An.2n and the base of chron C2An.1n. The correlation between the Ruscinian–Villanyian boundary and the 3.3-myr-B.P. cooling event seems to be confirmed, while the early/late Villanyian boundary could be tentatively correlated to the glacial event at 2.6 myr B.P. Furthermore, MN 15 faunas are found in the lowermost part of chron C2Ar, which is in agreement with and reinforces the emplacement of the MN 14–MN 15 Ruscinian zones boundary at the reversal from chron 3n.1n to chron C2Ar.

Abstract:
Correlation of bio- and magnetostratigraphy of Badenian sequences from western and northern HungaryLithological, magnetostratigraphic and paleontological (nannoplankton, foraminifers, molluscs) studies were carried out on the Badenian successions of boreholes Sopron-89, Nagylózs-1 and Sáta-75 in Hungary. The correlations with the ATNTS2004 scale show that the Badenian sedimentation began during Chron C5Br thus the earliest Badenian deposits are missing in the sections. The first occurrence ofOrbulina suturalisBrönnimann has been observed in Subchron C5Bn.1r, at 14.9 Ma. Although it is older than the interpolated age of 14.74 Ma in Chron C5ADr in the ATNTS2004, it is consistent with the age of 15.1 Ma obtained from recent calibration of planktonic foraminiferal bioevents. The base of the Bulimina-Bolivina Zone has been determined at 13.7 Ma in Chron C5ABr, and the Badenian/Sarmatian boundary is recorded within Chron C5AAn, at 13.15 Ma.

Abstract:
The Eocene-Oligocene Makah Formation and subjacent middle Eocene Hoko River Formation of the northwestern Olympic Peninsula, Washington, yield mollusks, crustaceans, foraminifera, and early neocete whales; their age has never been precisely established. We sampled several sections; most samples showed a stable single-component remanence held largely in magnetite and passed a Class I reversal test. The upper Refugian (late Eocene) and lower Zemorrian (early Oligocene) rocks at Baada Point correlate with Chron C13r (33.7–34.7 Ma) and Chron C12r (30–33 Ma). The Ozette Highway section of the Makah Formation spanned the early Refugian to late Refugian, with a sequence that correlates with Chrons C15r-C13r (33.7–35.3 Ma), and a long reversed early Zemorrian section that correlates with Chron C12r (30–33 Ma). The type section of the Hoko River Formation correlates with Chron C18r (40.0–41.2 Ma). The area sampled shows about45∘of post-Oligocene counterclockwise tectonic rotation, consistent with results obtained from the Eocene-Oligocene rocks in the region.

Abstract:
In 364 BCE Clearchus, a former student of Isocrates and Plato, staged a coup d'état in his native city of Heraclea Pontica and made himself tyrant. Twelve years later in 352 Clearchus fell victim to a conspiracy led by another former student of Plato and native Heraclean, by the name of Chion. Some centuries later an author whose name we do not know and about whose date and place of residence we can only speculate fixed on this event as the basis of a historical epistolary novel, which comprises a sequence of seventeen letters purportedly written by Chion himself. The novel survives in a number of manuscripts, the majority of which give it the title Letters of Chion. It is with this text that this article is concerned. The sequence tracks Chion's progress from the time he leaves home in order to pursue his studies at the Academy to two days before the assassination. Most of the letters are addressed to Chion's father Matris, and so fall into the category of ‘letters home’ in which Chion narrates and reflects on his encounters and thoughts at various stages of his sojourn abroad. The final one however is written from Heraclea back to Athens; it is addressed to Plato, and from its tone and content Chion clearly expects of his master that he regard the upcoming assassination as his student's graduation summa cum laude in the field of political ethics. Critical opinion on the Letters is largely unanimous in maintaining that the author shares this view; that the whole sequence is designed to show Chion developing the philosophical acumen needed to make the right decision on the on the ethical issues that confront him and the emotional maturity needed to take decisive political action at the appropriate time.

Abstract:
The scalar Yukawa model, in which a complex scalar field, ϕ, interacts via a real scalar field, χ, is reduced by using covariant Green functions. It is shown that exact few-particle eigenstates of the truncated QFT Hamiltonian can be obtained in the Feshbach–Villars formulation if an unorthodox "empty" vacuum state is used. Analytic solutions for the two-body case are obtained for massless chion exchange in 3+1 dimensions and for massive chion exchange in 1+1 dimensions. Comparison is made to ladder Bethe–Salpeter, Feynman–Schwinger, and quasipotential results for massive chion exchange in 3+1. Equations for the three-body case are also obtained. Abstract:
Crazy People, a collection of short stories, presents characters and their various psychological crutches. The preface explores the concept of negative space as it applies to short fiction, manifesting itself in the form of open-ended endings, miscommunication between characters, rhetorical questions, and allusions to unspecified characters. The preface seeks to differentiate "good" space from "bad" space by citing examples from the author's own work, as well as the works of Raymond Carver, Dan Chaon, and Stanley Fish.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Johansson, Fredrik (2012). Filmljudets funktioner i dramafilm – En audio-visuell analys av filmen The King´s Speech. I denna uppsats undersöktes filmljudet i dramafilmen The King´s Speech.

Abstract:

This study deals with a research on what the opening sounds in movies tell us about the story that we are about to follow. The purpose is to examine if and how the sound in the first five minutes of the movie contribute in giving information about the film’s genre. The theoretical base includes both genre theory and Michel Chion’s theory on film sound. Six different movies representing different genres, countries and year of production are analyzed in an audiovisual way.

The result shows that the sound in the opening sequence could describe the genre which the movie belongs to, but it doesn’t always work like this. The analysis also shows examples on movies where the sound in the beginning of the movie focus on other things, like describing place or ethnicity. In some of the movies, especially the ones that represent adventure and action, you can hear the genre very clearly. In others, for example the comedy, there is a bit harder to decide if the sound alone could tell us about which genre the movie belongs to, and if the sound is typical for that specific genre or if it could be about almost everything. Furthermore, in some movies it was quite clear that the sound concentrates on describing something else instead, for example the place where the story is set.

Full text
Abstract:

Paris 8, 2004. http://www.theses.fr/2004PA082414.

Full text
Abstract:
What drives composers to write for the speaking voice ? If in 1912 Arnold Schœnberg’s expressionisitic speaking voice in Pierrot lunaire diverts the traditional lyrical song, a stronger speaking voice will, up until 1951, be the symbol of the spiritual and political commitment of the composer. In so doing the speaking voice resembles the hidden and fragmentary speech of Helmut Lachenmann, who, to make it react, inflicts on his audience a constant effort of semantic reconstruction. W. Walton’s (Façade, 1922) and W. Vogel’s (Worte, 1962) use of langage is much more joyful and will find a more intimate echo in G. Kurtág’s and Gerard Pesson’s works. Finally, experimenting on these images – laden voices, Michèle Reverdy turns tales into music focusing on the narrative drive of the text in Pascal Quignard’s and J. L. Borges works. For J. Schöllhorn, S. Sciarrino, G. Battistelli or M. Jarrell the emphasis on story telling whas limited to the task of showing "invisible action" through the medium of speech and Music in a piece of internalized theater, while the concrete Melodrama of Michel Chion hinges upon the presence not of a narrator or a reader, but of a true caracter leaving in the present time and speaking in the present tense
