The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of individual testing, in conjunction with group instruction, on students' sight-singing skills. A quasi-experimental study was designed to test the following prediction: Choir students given a regular program of individual testing will show a significantly greater improvement in individual sight-singing over students given group sight-singing instruction alone. A sample of 306 subjects was drawn from the beginning and advanced choirs of six high schools in the State of Washington where sight-singing was taught. Intact choirs were randomly as

Background. The contemporary choral art has accumulated many bright samples, which present various performing directions and genres. Particularly interesting are those that include the traits traditionally not inherent to the choral performance. We will consider some of the requirements for the performance of choral music, put forward by the composers of the twentieth century, in particular, representatives of the new Viennese school and the Italian avant-garde, as well as the performance conditions, which require the tendency to adaptation for the stage of choral works and the improvisational

The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand how undergraduate- and graduate-level choristers perceived the influence of adolescent female voice change on their singing experiences since the age of 11 years old. Data included individual and focus group interviews with 17 female collegiate choral singers enrolled in one of two women’s choirs at a large midwestern university. Three overarching themes emerged: perceptions of vocal development, teacher influence, and emotion. Findings revealed that participants’ perceptions of singing experiences since age 11 largely revolved around voc

Choral singing occupies an important place in modern Chinese culture. There are more than 4000 professional choirs in China, and not only music schools, but also general education schools have their own choir. It is worth noting that the Chinese choral school flourished in the last third of the last century, and today, according to the author of the proposed article, it has reached its apogee. At the same time, the theoretical understanding of the phenomenon of choral art in China is at a very low level.
