The effects of long-term oral administration of Choto-san (Diao-Teng-San in Chinese) extract on the occurrence of stroke and life span were investigated in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR-SPs). The effects of Choto-san on microcirculation, serum nitric oxide and lipid peroxides were investigated. Fifteen patients with asymptomatic cerebral infarction were investigated before and after a four-week administration of Choto-san.
