Résumé Chrétien de Troyes ouvre son Conte du Graal sur une étonnante métaphore de l’écrivain semeur en train de répandre ses graines romanesques. Cette représentation paysanne d’un auteur qui travaille le texte comme on travaillerait la terre permet alors de légitimer une écriture littéraire toujours susceptible, au Moyen Âge, de constituer un affront aux Écritures. En se peignant dans l’effort rustique, Chrétien de Troyes choisit donc de reconduire sa soumission, tant à l’ordre divin (le labeur est bien le destin de tout bon chrétien depuis le péché originel) qu’à la hiérarchie féodale où le fruit de l’activité n’est qu’une exigence du fief que le travailleur ne saurait réclamer.

Nas duas últimas décadas o que se poderia chamar de "retorno aos manuscritos" tem suscitado significativas descobertas e reavaliações no campo dos estudos narrativos medievais. Deixar a imagem de uma narrativa individualizada e interrompida, fixada pelas edições modernas, e retornar aos manuscritos que contém o Perceval de Chrétien de Troyes é uma experiência exemplar desta abertura de novas possibilidades de investigação e, por consequência, de abordagem: na maioria destes manuscritos o que se encontra é uma narrativa que se integra sem descontinuidades aparentes a um tecido narrativo normalmente estudado de maneira fragmentária. Tomando como ponto de partida a composição do conjunto dos manuscritos do Perceval de Chrétien de Troyes e tendo como foco de análise o manuscrito de Mons, proponho neste estudo alguns princípios de análise que poderiam orientar e guiar uma leitura que pretenda considerar sua unidade narrativa.

AbstractL’un des personnages les plus mémorables du Chevalier au lion de Chrétien de Troyes est le paysan qu’on rencontre dans la forêt de Brocéliande, juste avant d’atteindre la source merveilleuse. Dans certains manuscrits il apparaît comme le gardien des taureaux, des ours et des léopards qui se battent devant lui. Des associations similaires d’animaux ne devaient pas surprendre les hommes du Moyen Âge, qui étaient familiers des histoires dans lesquelles coexistaient des animaux sauvages de différentes régions géographiques. Le passage correspondant du Mabinogi de Owein, texte gallois qui suit le même récit que le roman de Chrétien, énumère cerfs, lions, serpents, et «toutes sortes d’animaux». Il est donc probable que la source commune aux deux romans citait plusieurs bêtes sauvages. L’archétype de ces personnages est probablement le légendaire «seigneur des animaux», divinité qui dans les cultures des chasseurs de la préhistoire présidait à la reproduction et à la distribution du gibier et qui a subi plusieures métamorphoses dans les contes hagiographiques de différents saints et dans d’autres textes de la littérature française médiévale. L’association d’animaux disparates constitue donc un canevas narratif traditionnel et le passage de Chrétien de Troyes se réfère à ce substrat mythique.

Why Tu, Rather than Vous, in Chrétien de Troyes' Le Chevalier de la Charrete? In general, Chrétien de Troyes avoided mixing tu and singular vous in address to the same individual, used vous in a sustained manner, and had much less recourse to tu than vous. In Le Chevalier de la Charrete {Lancelot), however, tu occurs frequently, which allows one to examine second person pronoun selection in extended passages of direct discourse. Tu is not used to express anger; however, it is used by a prideful speaker to express scorn or contempt for his interlocutor. It is contrasted with vous, and used in complementary fashion with vous in disputes between pairs of fathers and sons as well as knights. The use of tu in the Lancelot — and of vous as a sort of contrastive correlative — is stylistically well suited to a romance which so greatly emphasizes shame and honor.

La historia de los amores de Lancelot y Ginebra posee una centralidad indiscutible en la producción romancesca de materia artúrica, desde que, en el siglo XII, Chrétien de Troyes sellara el destino del caballero al servicio de su reina en Lancelot o El caballero de la Carreta. De esta forma, Chrétien inventó una leyenda que rápidamente vino a competir, en términos análogos y a partir de una temática similar, con el popular mito de Tristán e Iseo, el cual, desde los oscuros parajes de la Bretaña insular, había conquistado la imaginación de los hombres medievales. En función de esta aseveración, el objetivo del artículo es revisar la relación que el escritor establece entre las dos parejas mediante el análisis particular de El caballero de la Carreta. Presentaré algunas hipótesis relativas al tipo de amor que el caballero siente para con su reina, el cual no parece reproducir los sentimientos de Tristán por Iseo. Finalmente, intentaré esbozar un panorama de la posición que el texto ocupa en toda la obra de Chrétien de Troyes, especular sobre las líneas directrices que guiaron su producción en general y proponer algunas explicaciones de cómo el roman responde a coordenadas intelectuales específicas de su momento de escritura.
