Abstract:
Police involvement in the Christian Front Movement in Brooklyn, NY grew unnoticed from 1938-1940, resulting in anti-semitic violence even after the police comissioner and mayor were forced to address the issue after the arrest in 1940 of 17 Christian Front Members accused of planning terrorist activities. The Christian Front was able to grow in an area like Brooklyn due to its high population of Irish-Catholics, and since the Christian Front was a religiously-based anti-semitic group led by an Irish Catholic priest, these people aligned well with the movement's beliefs. With a large Irish-Catholic police force, it is evident that the police not only had membership in the Christian Front but also those sympathetic to the movement. The stronghold of the Christian Front and the anti-semitic beliefs prevalent throughout the NYPD resulted in the creation of an environment where anti0semitic attacks could proliferate unaddressed, and where Irish Catholic nationalists could spread and impose their beliefs of anti-semitism and through their position of power in a law enforcement role.

Abstract:
In Turkey, considered a secular and democratic role model for other countries with a Muslim majority, both state and society perceive Christians very critically. There are historical experiences and ideas that contribute to this surprising finding. In the Qur’an, the Holy Book of Muslims, Christians who do not accept the claim of Muhammad to be God’s prophet, are perceived as rebellious liars. Christians in early Islamic society were widely tolerated, but had a status as second-class-citizens. The Ottoman Empire as the front state against the Christian world and the savior of Sunni Islam widely tolerated Christians; thedhimmistatus of Christians as second-class-citizens however was continued in themillet-system. As the power of the Ottomans decreased and Western ideas of nationalism began to influence the Empire during the nineteenth century, the Muslim majority began a search for identity. Secessions of Christian peoples and interference by “Christian” foreign nations triggered more severe clashes between the remaining Christian population and the state. The wide-ranging activities of Western missionaries in the Ottoman Empire were perceived as a part of Western colonialism. During the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish Republic, the leaders of the Young Turk movement were motivated by their desperate battle to save a rest of the Empire as a homeland for the Muslim population. The perception of Christians as the enemy of the new Republic was more firmly established. Though Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gave a revolutionary modern and secular character to Turkey, there was an intentional Turkification of society. A study of Turkish newspapers confirms that these perceptions are widely valid until today. Missiology has to help develop an appropriate response of Christians to the situation inside and outside of Turkey.

Abstract:
This paper examines how Israeli Christians perceive their cultural position between Jewish and Muslim identities in Israel. The study primarily relates to the cultural differences between Christians and Muslims, and to the relations between them in mixed villages and towns. It focuses on how the sense of identity and the cultural aspects, combined with the rise of the Islamic identity and the change of Arab society’s structure has affected the peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims. Lastly, the research addresses the 1999 Christian-Muslim riots (Shihab al-Din Events) in Nazareth over plans to construct a Mosque in front of the Church of Annunciation.

Abstract:
On 4 October 1948, József Cardinal Mindszenty preached a sermon for the rosary feast in front of 35,000 Catholic faithful. He began by reminding his congregation of the origins of the feast day that they were celebrating: the victory of Europe's Christian states over the Ottoman Turkish fleet at the naval battle of Lepanto in 1571. This great victory in the struggle of universal Christendom against the infidel enemy recalled to Mindszenty a second, more particularly Hungarian parallel: the victory of Habsburg forces over the Ottoman Turkish enemy at the battle of Temesvár in 1716. “Hungarian history recalls too such a rosary victory—the Hungarian Christians won it over the Turks in 1716 at Temesvár.” Both military victories represented moments when Europeans had repelled a force seen at the time, and ever after, as hostile to Christian civilization.

Abstract:
This essay analyzes how female participation may affect the perpetration of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) by rebel groups. I look at leftist, Islamist, Christian, and Buddhist rebel groups, examining how these ideologies interact with the factor of female participation. I hypothesize that while female participation in leftist and Buddhist rebel groups may reduce CRSV, it may have relatively little impact in Islamist and Christian rebel groups. I test these theories individually through the case studies of the Farabundo Mart National Liberation Front (FMLN), the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), and the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF). Due to the lack of data on Christian and Buddhist rebel groups, I only statistically corroborate my hypotheses on leftist and Islamist rebel groups.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article explores the role that Christianity played in the decolonization of Algeria and in particular how the complex relationship between Christianity and colonialism under French rule shaped the rhetoric and actions of Christians during the Algerian War of Independence (1954–62). Using the case of a 1957 trial in the military tribunal of Algiers in which twelve Europeans were charged with crimes ranging from distributing propaganda for the National Liberation Front to sheltering suspected communist and nationalist militants, I demonstrate how “Christian” rhetoric became one of the major means through which the conduct of the war and the defense of French Algeria were debated. While conservative defenders of French Algeria claimed that actions such as those of the Christians on trial led to the erasure of Christianity in North Africa, I argue that such actions and moral positions allowed for the continued presence of Christianity in Algeria after independence.

Abstract:
Within Biblical scholarship, there have been a limited number of studies which examine ancient literacy and education in relation to the production of the Deutero-Pauline letters. When such topics are addressed together, the discussions rarely go beyond some generalities, and this article seeks to partly address that gap. Literacy rates in the Greco-Roman world, of which the earliest Christians were a part, are universally agreed to be significantly lower than modern literacy rates, with most estimates being between 5 and 15%. This fact, coupled with the limited number of Christians by the end of the first and the beginning of the second century CE, should be taken more seriously when considering how the Deutero-Pauline literature came to be produced and, eventually, circulate with other authentic Pauline letters. In short, this article will argue that when the realities of the educational landscape of the New Testament world are taken in conjunction with what we know about textual production, early Christian communities and leadership structures, there is a plausible argument to be made that those who were responsible for at least some of the Deutero-Pauline letters may be hiding in plain sight.

Abstract:
Using a social representations lens, we examined subjective meanings of land entitlements in Central Mindanao among Muslims and Christians. In Study 1, we collected survey data from 231 students from the University of Southern Mindanao in Central Mindanao, asking them: ‘If you were to tell the story of land ownership in Cotabato, what three topics would you want to include in your story?’ Results of our hierarchical evocation analysis show that Christians are concerned with direct conflicts or actual intergroup confrontations while Muslims emphasise land issues. Study 2 implemented Focauldian Discursive Analysis to evaluate two separate focused group discussions by Muslim and Christian village leaders on the question: ‘Who really owns the land in Cotabato, specifically here in Midsayap?’ Findings indicate that Christians hold on to a legal story while Muslims use the ancestral domain narrative to cohere subjective claims to the contested territory. We discuss our results in the light of the role of legalese in an asymmetric territorial conflict and more specifically, the Framework Agreement signed last October 2012 by both the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

An examination of the spiritual and temporal roles of Catholic chaplains in WW1 in France and Belgium. All the formative influences at home are assessed from religious, political, social, and geographic perspectives. The roles of the bishops in England and Ireland are reviewed and how their post war ambitions were interpreted at the Front are explained. Lancashire's traditional Catholic strength makes it a significant contributor, not least as the fulcrum between Irish and English catholics.

Morris, Allen William. "Prophetic theology in the Kairos tradition : a pentecostal and reformed perspective in black liberation theology in South Africa." Thesis, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/25907.

Abstract:
This study focused on the ‘silence of the prophets’ in the post-apartheid era. It sought to understand why the prophets, who spoke out so vehemently against the injustices of apartheid, did not speak out against the injustices of the government after 1994 even when it became blatantly apparent that corruption was beginning to unfold on various levels, especially with the introduction of the so-called Arms Deal. Accordingly, the study singles out Drs Allan Boesak and Frank Chikane who were among the fiercest opponents of the apartheid regime before 1994. The study traced the impact of the ideological forces that influenced Boesak and Chikane’s ideological thinking from the early Slave Religion, Black Theology in the USA and Liberation Theology in Latin America. Black Theology and Black Consciousness first made their appearance in South Africa in the 1970s, with Boesak and Chikane, among others, as early advocates of these movements. In 1983, Boesak and Chikane took part in the launch of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. This movement became the voice of the voiceless in an era when the members of the African National Congress (ANC) and Pan African Congress (PAC) had been sent into exile. It also signalled a more inclusive and reconciliatory shift in Boesak and Chikane’s Ideological thinking. Whereas Black Consciousness sought to exclude white people from participating in the struggle for liberation, the UDF united all under one banner without consideration for colour, race, religion or creed. After the advent of liberation in South Africa in 1994, it became increasingly obvious that corruption was infiltrating many levels of the new government. But the prophets were silent. Why were they silent? The study presents an analysis of the possible reasons for this silence based on interviews with Boesak and Chikane as role players and draws conclusions based on their writings both before and after 1994. Overall, the study concluded that they were silent because they had become part of the new political structures that had taken over power. To sum up, the study demonstrates the irony of prophetic oscillation and concludes that no prophet is a prophet for all times. Thus, as a new democracy unfolds in South Africa, the situation demands new prophets with a new message.

Conteh, Prince Sorie. "The place of African traditional religion in interreligious encounters in Sierra Leone since the advent of Islam and Christianity." Thesis, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/2316.

Full text
Abstract:
This study which is the product of library research and fieldwork seeks, on account of the persistent marginalisation of African Traditional Religion (ATR) in Sierra Leone by Islam and Christianity, to investigate the place of ATR in inter-religious encounters in the country since the advent of Islam and Christianity. As in most of sub-Saharan Africa, ATR is the indigenous religion of Sierra Leone. When the early forebears and later progenitors of Islam and Christianity arrived, they met Sierra Leone indigenes with a remarkable knowledge of God and a structured religious system. Successive Muslim clerics, traders, and missionaries were respectful of and sensitive to the culture and religion of the indigenes who accommodated them and offered them hospitality. This approach resulted in a syncretistic brand of Islam. In contrast, most Christian missionaries adopted an exclusive and insensitive approach to African culture and religiosity. Christianity, especially Protestantism, demanded a complete abandonment of African culture and religion, and a total dedication to Christianity. This attitude has continued by some indigenous clerics and religious leaders to the extent that Sierra Leone Indigenous Religion (SLIR) and it practitioners continue to be marginalised in Sierra Leone's inter-religious dialogue and cooperation. Although the indigenes of Sierra Leone were and continue to be hospitable to Islam and Christianity, and in spite of the fact that SLIR shares affinity with Islam and Christianity in many theological and practical issues, and even though there are many Muslims and Christians who still hold on to traditional spirituality and culture, Muslim and Christian leaders of these immigrant religions are reluctant to include Traditionalists in interfaith issues in the country. The formation and constitution of the Inter-Religious Council of Sierra Leone (IRCSL) which has local and international recognition did not include ATR. These considerations, then beg the questions: * Why have Muslim and Christian leaders long marginalised ATR, its practices and practitioners from interfaith dialogue and cooperation in Sierra Leone? * What is lacking in ATR that continues to prevent practitioners of Christianity and Islam from officially involving Traditionalists in the socio-religious development of the country? Muslim and Christians have given several factors that are responsible for this exclusion: * The prejudices that they inherited from their forebears * ATR lacks the hallmarks of a true religion * ATR is primitive and economically weak * The fear that the accommodation of ATR will result in syncretism and nominalism * Muslims see no need to dialogue with ATR practitioners, most of whom they considered to be already Muslims Considering the commonalities ATR shares with Islam and Christianity, and the number of Muslims and Christians who still hold on to traditional spirituality, these factors are not justifiable. Although Islam and Christianity are finding it hard to recognise and include ATR in interfaith dialogue and cooperation in Sierra Leone, ATR continues to play a vital role in Sierra Leone's national politics, in the search and maintenance of employment, and in the judicial sector. ATR played a crucial part during and after the civil war. The national government in its Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report acknowledged the importance and contribution of traditional culture and spirituality during and after the war. Outside of Sierra Leone, the progress in the place and level of the recognition of ATR continues. At varying degrees, the Sociétié Africaine de Culture (SAC) in France, the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), the Vatican, and the World Council of Churches, have taken positive steps to recognise and find a place for ATR in their structures. Much about the necessity for dialogue and cooperation with ATR can be learnt in the works and efforts of these secular and religious bodies. If nothing else, there are two main reasons why Islam and Christianity in Sierra Leone must be in dialogue with ATR: * Dialogue of life or in community. People living side-by-side meet and interact personally and communally on a regular basis. They share common resources and communal benefits. These factors compel people to be in dialogue * Dual religiosity. As many Muslims and Christians in Sierra Leone are still holding on to ATR practices, it is crucial for Muslims and Christians to dialogue with ATR practitioners. If Muslims and Christians are serious about meeting and starting a process of dialogue with Traditionalists, certain practical issues have to be considered: * Islam and Christianity have to validate and accept ATR as a true religion and a viable partner in the socio-religious landscape of Sierra Leone * Muslims and Christians must educate themselves about ATR, and the scriptures and teachings of their respective religious traditions in order to relate well with Traditionalists These are starting points that can produce successful results. Although at present Muslims and Christians in Sierra Leone are finding it difficult to initiate dialogue and cooperation with Traditionalists, all hope is not lost. It is now the task of the established IRCSL to ensure the inclusion of ATR. Islam and Christianity must remember that when they came as strangers, ATR, played host to them and has played and continues to play a vital role in providing hospitality, and allowing them to blossom on African soil.

Hart, Sarah Elizabeth. "Elegiac Rhetorics: From Loss to Dialogue in Lyric Poetry." Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/ETD-TAMU-2012-08-11736.

Full text
Abstract:
By reading mournful poems rhetorically, I expand the concept of the elegy in order to reveal continuities between private and communal modes of mourning. My emphasis on readers of elegies challenges writer-centered definitions of the elegy, like that given by Peter Sacks, who describes how the elegy's formal conventions express the elegist's own motives for writing. Although Sacks's Freudian approach helpfully delineates some of the consoling effects that writing poetry has on the elegist herself, this dissertation revises such writer-centered concepts of the elegy by asking how elegies rhetorically invoke ethical relationships between writers and readers. By reading elegiac poems through Kenneth Burke's rhetorical theories and Emmanuel Levinas's ethics, I argue that these poems characterize, as Levinas suggests, subjectivity as fundamentally structured by ethical relationships with others. In keeping with this ethical focus, I analyze anthology poems, meaning short lyric poems written by acclaimed authors, easily accessible, and easily remembered - including several well-known poems by such authors as Emily Dickinson, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and Robert Frost. Anthology pieces invite ethical evaluation in part because they represent what counts as valuable poetry - and also, by implication, what does not. Because anthology poems are read by broad, diverse audiences, I suggest that a rhetorical methodology focusing on writer-reader relationships is essential to evaluating these poems' ethical implications. This rhetorical approach to poetry, however, questions rhetoricians and aesthetic theorists from Aristotle and Longinus to Lloyd F. Bitzer and Derek Attridge who emphasize distinctions between rhetoric and poetics. I address the ongoing debate about the relationship between rhetoric and poetics by arguing, along the lines of Wayne C. Booth's affirmation that fiction and rhetoric are interconnected, that poetry and rhetoric are likewise integrally tied. To this debate, I add an emphasis on philosophy - from which Plato, Ramus, and others exclude rhetoric and poetry - as likewise essential to understanding both poetry and rhetoric. By recognizing the interrelatedness of these disciplines, we may better clarify poetry's broad, ethical appeals that seem so valuable to readers in situations of loss.

Abstract:
The political advance of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans was certainly a great challenge for the Christian powers of Europe. It was the first time that Christendom was basically on the defensive in front of a military colossus that announced its supremacy in the Balkans, but also on the entire old continent. It was at that time that the unparalleled personality of Iancu de Hunedoara emerged north of the Danube. Through energetic actions he tried to impose his will north of the Danube. However, the creation of a confederation under his leadership that would actively participate in anti-Ottoman military operations came up against, on the one hand, the political choices of the extra-Carpathian Romanian countries and, on the other, the intentions of the Polish royalty to maintain their influence in Moldavia. This was one of the main causes of the crisis in Moldavia before Stephen the Great took the throne.

Abstract:
The trajectory of the Romanian cult music is intertwined with the trajectory of the Byzantine cult music, the mega-phenomenon and its zonal manifestation conditioning and enhancing each other. Respectively, any attempt to stage the evolution of sacred singing in the reference area refers to the transformations supported by Byzantine music as a whole. In the historiography of the field, we found several variants of systematization of the Byzantine ecclesiastical music on the Romanian territories: according to historical epochs, according to the stages of consolidation of the national Church, according to the linguistic factor (succession of sacred languages), according to stylistic manifestations. Based on the way in which the studies are structured, it is observed that historians do not consistently follow one way or another, but opt for summing them up. Thus, a milestone with generalizing value is outlined, in which the first Christian centuries mark the penetration and spread of Proto-Byzantine and Byzantine song in the Romanian space, the IX-X centuries – the enrollment of Romanianism in the Byzantine-Slavic religious front, the XIV century – the inauguration of the period of cultural effervescence related to the constitution of the Romanian medieval states, the end of the XVI century – the XVIII century – the Romanianization of the liturgical melody, the beginning of the XIX century – the XXI century – the passage of the Byzantine chant through the avatars of modernity and contemporaneity.

Abstract:
Abstract In the previous study, two Inside Temperature (ITdQ=0 and ITIM) methods for estimating the temperature distributions in steady wave fronts in a thermoviscous material were established and the ITIM method was shown qualitatively to be effective for shock compressions where the effect of viscosity was distinguished. In this paper, these two methods are applied to the shock compressions of Yittria-doped Tetragonal Zirconia (YTZ) that is a thermoviscous material with a multiple shock Hugoniot. The YTZ Hugoniot consists of three partial curves including two kinks, that are the Hugoniot Elastic Limit (HEL) and the phase transition point. The shock temperatures evaluated by the ITIM method were close to the accurate temperatures obtained by the Walsh-Christian method in the whole stress range to 140 GPa examined here. Furthermore, the inside temperature distributions were approximately accurate because the effect of viscosity was distinguished in the shock compression. By these facts, it was considered that the fundamental assumption and the assumption on heat transport used in the ITIM method were valid and as a result, this method was effective. In addition, the influence of heat transport on the temperatures and thermoelastic stresses was examined.

Abstract:
The years of World War II know many examples of various intelligence / counterintelligence operations in their complexity and execution. However, the closely related topic of supervision and opposition to the activities of pro-German and pro-Japanese public organizations in the United States is quite little studied in domestic historiography. Within the framework of this article, several specific examples examined how federal agents acted in relation to public organizations of the German diaspora ("Bund"), associations sympathetic to Germany ("Christian Front") and Japanese organizations in the United States ("Heimusha Kai" and others). These examples show the features and major shortcomings of the FBI's work in these areas, and also make it clear how the US intelligence services acted in the conditions of war and the existing judicial system in America, as well as how much the motives of the political struggle in the country influenced the activities to ensure internal security. The considered examples allow us to draw a conclusion that in addition to the counterintelligence motives dictated by the war, the FBI's activities in this direction had a pronounced political color and were associated with the struggle of the presidential administration F. D. Roosevelt with criticism "on the right." However, the results of the investigations of the agents did not stand the test of the trial and, with the exception of cases related to the activity of Japanese organizations in the United States, ended in acquittals. Also, the role of the press in these cases is noteworthy. The media for the most part worked to substantiate the activities of the Bureau and its agents. Methodologically, the study relies on the principles of historicism, problem-chronological method and methods of historical comparative studies. The article is based on archival materials from the Bureau and literature on the topic of research.

Abstract:
Abstract In the decommissioning phase of oilfield facility lifecycles, focus pivots from positive net present value to executing the care and preservation, then decommissioning in the safest and most environmentally sensitive manor, and at the lowest total cost of ownership. Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) is a long-term liability carried on the balance sheet, as a provision for the cost to return a wellsite to pre-exploration condition. The reduction of abandonment and decommissioning expenditure (ABEX) in executing compliant operations is a key business performance factor, and critical in executing higher volumes of wells earlier than planned. In doing so maximizing value to company shareholders, residents, industries and government level stakeholders. In the case study, an offline pre-abandonment and Phase I primary reservoir isolation project is presented, which seeks to maximize net project efficiency via offline wellbore intervention, executing the primary reservoir isolation of the wellbore via rigless techniques. This approach contributed to ABEX reductions by up to 40% per well vs the planned approval for expenditure (AFE) provisions taken for the operations. The project execution structure utilized offline intervention and Phase I primary reservoir isolation of 81 wellbores, across 5 wellhead platforms and 47 days continuous operations. Operations were part of a simultaneous operation (SIMOPS) project, as an offline work front located on the wellhead platform (WHP) weather deck. A second work front for Phase II and Phase III well abandonment operations, is executed concurrently, from the jack-up rig cantilever above the WHP. Live well operations are conducted concurrently by both work fronts, through the Christmas Tree (XT) and pressure control equipment in Phase I, and through the drilling riser and blowout preventor for Phase II and Phase III, to maximize productivity when the rig is on location. The scope of operations included wellhead qualification, wellbore access and preparation, well kill, injectivity testing, various wellbore preparation and cement placement techniques, pressure testing and lubrication of the wellbore. The operator's system engineering, design of operations and planning agility are key to its success. Acute focus was given to the batching of operations and delivery of these in a phased approach to increase productivity and maintain high service delivery through repetition of tasks. The project successfully executed Incident Free Operations (IFO) with 100% productive time and facilitated combined project performance, which delivered wells up to 44% ahead of the planned AFE. To enable this, over 4.19 million feet of slickline was run, conveying 428 bottom hole assemblies (BHAs), preparing the wellbores to isolate 804 primary reservoirs, and 2 intermediate reservoirs.

Abstract:
Fresco-composition, painted above the entrance of the katholikon of Žiča monastery, represents a unique scene within Serbian monumental painting from the beginning of the second decade of 14th century. This carefully thought-up picture illustrates a Christmas' Hymn which ascribes to the authorship of John of Damaskus. However, verses written on the arc, above the composition, are associated with poems of Anatoly of Constatinopole’s poetic content. Decora- tion of the entrance consists of clearly expressed theme of the portal, therefore it can be said that frescoes obviously indicate activities that could have been happening inside this space, to be precise in front of the temple’s entrance. It is important to analyze mention verses written on the arc, which belong to the poem that’s sung on the first day of the celebration of Christmas, when, it is believed, monarch himself attended. In the upper part of the composition, we can see The Mother of God on the throne with Child, surrounded by Angels, Shepherds and the Magi with their gifts. They are joined with a fragment of historic content, which additionally completes the complexity of the painting. In the lower part of the fresco-composition, there are visible two ceremonial proseccions moving towards each other. On the left side, beneath the Magi, we can see a group of cantors, monks, priesthood led by archbishop Sava III. On the right, beneath the Shephards, there is Court Retinue led by King Milutin. All participants of this saint cortege are painted wearing rich vestments with apparent attributes that define them. There are clear indications of taking over and transmitting Constantionopoli- tan models within the painting subject of gate entrance as the emphasized place as part of the ruling adventus. It is obvious that it is about iconography shaped by forceful influence of liturgy, theological literature of Incarnation, specifically the influence of hymnography in shaping different artistic models that had been growing in the Empire of Palaiologos and the land of king Milutin.

Abstract:
Traditional design and supply chain processes have created well established approaches to the manufacture of metallic engineering products in the Oil and Gas sector. Normative references such as API 6A (Specification for Wellhead and Christmas Tree Equipment) and API 17D (Design and Operation of Subsea Production Systems - Subsea Wellhead and Tree Equipment), as well as national and company-based specifications and requirements (e.g., Brazilian norm NBR 15827 “Industrial Valves for Installations of Exploration, Production, Refining and Transport of Petrol Products - Requirements for Design and Prototype Test” and Chevron specification SSM - PU - 54.02 - A “Qualification Testing of Subsea Equipment”) and the ASME body of pressure vessel code requirements and derived specifications, are largely predicated on traditional design and supply assumptions with respect to metallic materials and components. The further challenge of recovering oil from deepwater basins has generated initiatives such as “Project 20K”, BP’s project to develop, with programme collaborators, the capability to drill, complete, produce and intervene in deepwater reservoirs with pressures of 20,000 psi at the mudline and temperatures up to 350°F (175°C). Here again, design and supply assumptions to date are predicated on traditional design and supply assumptions for metallic materials and components. Notwithstanding the progress being achieved in meeting performance requirements in these and similar programmes, a global paradigm change is underway in respect of the accelerating front of advanced manufacturing. This has been seen especially in the aerospace and aviation sectors, but significantly less so in the Oil and Gas sector. This paper will contribute to addressing this imbalance by presenting work being done by a major subsea equipment supplier to engage with the challenges of this disruptive manufacturing technology. Specifically, the paper will present the holistic approach and results of innovative work being done in the advanced manufacturing of a subsea metallic component using welding arc additive techniques. The work presented will review and evaluate the impact of this manufacturing technology on the core metallic component domains of Metallurgy, Welding Engineering and NDE, utilizing a robotic system for manufacturing the component. The paper directly contributes, therefore, to the emerging roadmap for advanced manufacturing of metallic components in the Oil and Gas sector.

Abstract:
Abstract Offshore oil and gas production systems comprise a variety of subsea arrangements dedicated to serving production platforms and export lines. Hydraulic systems are widely used in offshore production systems, particularly for control and operation of Wet Christmas Tree, Manifolds, Valves and others equipaments. Subsea umbilical hydraulic fluid leaks are a problem for the oil industry because they cause environmental damage and involve equipment downtime with financial losses associated with oil and gas production. Leaks, mostly internal, represent one of the most common failures in hydraulic systems. The Campos Sedimentary Basin occupies a marine area located in the region from the central-northern part of the state of Rio de Janeiro to the southern part of the state of Espírito Santo. This field comprises a geological structure that has provided the accumulation of the remains of marine organisms over millions of years. The region currently accounts for about 30% of the entire national production and there is still a lot of potential to be developed. Within the company, there are approximately 280 producing wells in operation, approximately 7,000 employees working on the most diverse fronts, and 25 offshore platforms in operation. This paper presents a study of solutions developed to contain leaks in hydraulic umbilicals, using robotic techniques with ROV support. The anomaly that occurred in equipment connected to the PGP-1 in Campos Basin, resulted in significant losses. The area responsible for studies and the company's underwater repair service is responsible for designing and developing solutions for repair services for rigid pipelines in contingency situations and support in the inspection and maintenance of pipelines and underwater equipment. In the past, the repair or replacement of subsea umbilicals was done with the assistance of human divers, more precisely in the saturated mode. This type of assistance is a methodology that presents high risks to the safety of the professionals involved. Another relevant issue is the high costs involved in renting a Diving Support Vessel - DSV and the limitations of using this vessel in adverse environmental conditions (wind, current, wave height, etc.).

Abstract:
Abstract A wellhead system includes components on the surface of an oil or gas well that provide access to the main bore of the casing or tubing or to the annulus as well as enables pressure control of a production well. The wellhead system serves as the surface termination of a wellbore that incorporates facilities for installing casing hangers during the well construction phase, and also incorporates a means of hanging the production tubing and installing the Christmas tree and surface flow-control facilities in preparation for the production phase of the well. System Integration Testing (SIT) of such a complex wellhead system is an essential step for confirming equipment interfaces and functionalities and ensuring that every component operates as expected. Such a test typically takes weeks to months of planning, scheduling, and coordinating among all participating customers, project managers, engineers, and manufacturing, planning, and service personnel. Engineers ensure all parts and tools are present and verify that the compatibility and functionalities meet the system’s design and customer requirements. Equipment is then dismantled and readied for the actual SIT in front of customers. Lengthy SIT events could also involve many HSE hazards. Further, even if a SIT is successful, expendable items must be purchased, extending the lead time. In this paper, a model-based hybrid computational framework is developed for efficiently virtualizing the system integration test of a surface wellhead system. Such a simulation methodology can enable transformation of conventional physical SIT to digital SIT (i.e., DigiSIT) with “scan-to-assembly” experience by performing a virtual SIT on an as-built wellhead system for anomaly detection. Specifically, a laser scanner digitizes the physical parts to the point cloud. A computing engine with rapid hybrid simulation ingests the 3D geometries. A motion mechanics solver can then simulate the movement of motion-centric components to efficiently detect interference between contacting parts, which helps identify design or manufacturing flaws. A deformation mechanics solver then simulates deformation-critical components, e.g., seals, to predict stress states and contact pressures that affect structural integrity and functional seal performance. DigiSIT can deliver an unprecedented factual view of system compatibility and functionality — without damaging or sacrificing parts. The developed simulation methodology was validated by comparing the simulation results to those observed during lab tests and field operations. For example, after a physical SIT exercise revealed a failure, the failed assembly was submitted for DigiSIT analysis. It was found that DigiSIT had favorably predicted the failure observed in the physical SIT, substantially increasing confidence in the methodology and substantiating its use for root cause analysis (RCA) and design validation. Furthermore, the developed simulation methodology presented in this study is also expandable to other product lines that involves assembling process.

Abstract:
Communication Action Zones in Art and Technology, in portuguese Zonas de Ações Comunicacionais em Arte e Tecnologia – ZACAT – is a master's research developed in Brazil, made before and during the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic, which causes the New Coronavirus disease. This artistic and academic work includes a set of sound and visual poetics based on an investigation of artistic communicational practices of an activist character, with the mediation of several questions about the current Brazilian history. Firstly, through diversified strategies and proposals for different interlocutors, with experiments in 2019, in different spaces in the city of Santa Maria, state of Rio Grande do Sul - streets, museums, art galleries, university, school, social networks, radio wave space. Subsequently, as a result of the world scenario presented from 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the poetic undergoes significant transformations. In addition to the artistic and communicational strategies undergoing changes in approach, the Santa Maria space moves to that of the Clube Naturista Colina do Sol (CNCS), a naturist community located in the municipality of Taquara, also in Rio Grande do Sul. Not urbanized and immersed with the wild environment the least interfered by human action, which provides other forms of listening and connection, in addition to the relationship with the body, communication and technology, such as the use of online virtual reality platforms to share the work carried out. To approach the construction of this research, studies on methodology by the researcher and artist Sandra Rey (1953) are used. As a theoretical foundation, reference is made to the idea of micropolitics, a concept that refers to philosophers Michel Foucault (1926-1984) and Gilles Deleuze (1925-1995) and to art critic Suely Rolnik (1948). Activist artistic practices are based on the experiences of Brazilian collectives from the 1990’s to the present, as seen under the historiography of Art Activism from the 1950’s, with Italian autonomist philosophers such as Giorgio Agamben (1942) and Franco Berardi (1949). To support the notion of Art and Communication, authors such as Mario Costa (1936), Fred Forest (1933), Mônica Tavares, Priscila Arantes, Christine Mello and Giselle Beiguelman are based on. The concept of device emerges from theoretical research and mediates artistic practices, having as reference Agamben, Foucault, Vilém Flusser (1920-1991) and Gilbert Simondon (1924-1989). From performances, through installations, through audio, video and face-to-face interactivity experiments or via virtual networks, this research seeks to give visibility to everyday micropolitics, with their memories, affections, formalized or ephemeral life impulses in moments of encounters. And how the artistic works can unfold in different contexts, in front of different audiences and under challenging conditions in terms of a larger historical context.

Abstract:
The URL links to a website page in the Drexel Digital Museum (DDM) fashion image archive containing a 3D interactive panorama of an evening gown by French fashion designer Christian Lacroix with related text. This evening gown by Christian Lacroix is from his Fall 1990 collection. It is constructed from silk plain weave, printed with an abstract motif in the bright, deep colors of the local costumes of Lacroix's native Arles, France; and embellished with diamanté and insets of handkerchief edged silk chiffon. Ruffles of pleated silk organza in a neutral bird feather print and also finished with a handkerchief edge, accentuate the asymmetrical draping of the gown. Ruching, controlled by internal drawstrings and ties, creates volume and a slight pouf, a nod to 'le pouf' silhouette Lacroix popularized in his collection for Patou in 1986. Decorative boning on the front of the bodice reflects Lacroix's early education as a costume historian and his sartorial reinterpretation of historic corsets. It is from the private collection of Mari Shaw. The panorama is an HTML5 formatted version of an ultra-high resolution ObjectVR created from stitched tiles captured with GigaPan technology. It is representative the ongoing research of the DDM, an international, interdisciplinary group of researchers focused on production, conservation and dissemination of new media for exhibition of historic fashion.
