Abstract:
Human beings’ life is running around these words live, virtue, non-violence, support, warmth and mercy. Their lives are improving only because they know the meaning of these words. There are many books and epics, all of them emphasize moral teachings and its characteristics. The history of each book is also published by the writers. Accordingly, the Bhagavad Gita is the holy book for Hinduism, the Quran is the holy book for Islam and Holy Bible for Christianity. The Holy Bible is not only the basis of Christian life but also the basis of many Christian Tamil literatures. The Holy Bible has embraced all the life principles of life in the lives of Saint Mary, the mother of Jesus and Saint Joseph, the father of Jesus. The Holy Bible consists of two parts, the Old and the New Testament. In the Old Testament the life and death of Jesus are recorded. New Testament is about the history of Jesus’s life, his deeds of charity, love and his teachings. The article examines the Christian Tamil literatures that were written after the Bible.

Zhou, Yun. "Singing a New Song: Christian Musical Literature for Chinese Women in the Republican Era." Studies in World Christianity 28, no. 1 (2022): 28–48. http://dx.doi.org/10.3366/swc.2022.0369.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the songs circulated in the first Christian woman’s magazine in China, Nü duo (1912–1951). Its first editor, American missionary Laura M. White (1867–1937), played a crucial role in creating a wide range of music for Chinese girls through journalism. White used print media to circulate songs that were viewed as an integral part of the spiritual life of ideal womanhood. Unlike the hymnody confined to congregational worship, the music circulated through Nü duo aimed to promote a vocalised expression of Christian faith in everyday life. This spiritual life was interwoven with secular concerns about the nation, social issues and home life. An exploration of music literature published in Nü duo shows how Western music was translated into local language that aimed to reach female Christians in mission schools and at home. It provided an alternative to the dominant indigenous development of Protestant hymnody in the Republican era. It went beyond the foreign and local dichotomy with a concept of universal modern citizenship. Furthermore, it added a gendered perspective to Christian sacred music that was linked to the creation of a sense of a female fellowship.

Abstract:
An enormous volume of literature has emerged in the past decade regarding stress and its management. As the Christian views this literature in psychology, an immediate impression is gratefulness for the contribution these advancements have made to Christ's Church. In addition, one has some reservations regarding the almost value-free environment surrounding some of the literature as well as the tendency of a few authors in this field to expand stress management techniques into an all-embracing philosophy of life. It is helpful for Christians to understand stress and its management in the context of the more familiar death and dying spectrum of truth. Learning from stress may be more appropriate for the Christian than simply managing or reducing it.

Abstract:
Today many people profess to be Christians but their lives are still far from the andard of living and lifestyle modeled by Jesus. It is even more ironic that a similarm life as demonstrated and exemplified by Jesus is considered impossible to do while on this earth and not for Christians to practice today. This study uses a literature review method, namely by analyzing the concept of what is the standard of living and lifestyle that Christ modeled and wore as a framework for the concept of Christian standards and lifestyle as a direction for the development and Christian education. The results of this study show the concepts and implications for the direction of Christian Religious Education in producing and shaping Christians who imitate Jesus.

Abstract:
Science and technology are often opposed to the Bible and faith, both by Christians and non-Christians. Many people think that the Bible and Christian faith have no correlation. Even more so, secular people tend to despise the values contained in the Bible and the Christian faith. Various methods and methods were developed and carried out to doubt and discredit the Bible and the Christian faith. Moreover, in the current context, the Bible and the Christian faith are seen as outdated and no longer relevant to the current context of human life. They think that the Bible and the Christian faith cannot answer human needs today because they have no correlation at all. To answer the view above, the researcher attempts to show that in the real world, both in the past and in the present, the Bible and the Christian faith remain relevant to the context of human life in all times. That the Bible and Christian faith have a close correlation with science and technology. The truth of science and technology is not only supported by the Bible, but the Bible can also be used as a foundation in efforts to think and search for truth in science and technology. This research was conducted using qualitative methods and literature study, namely research with descriptive analytical presentation. Data was compiled and obtained through literature studies sourced from research results, books and journals which were then analyzed descriptively and presented in writing in the form of a scientific journal about The Correlation Of Science And Technology With The Bible And Christian Faith In The Lives Of Believers.

Abstract:
We have more leisure time today than in any period in history. We also have more options for spending that leisure time. For most people (unless you are an English professor, like me), reading fiction is easily seen as purely a leisure activity. And for many, watching sports, streaming movies, or scrolling Twitter seem like more relaxing, less demanding ways to fill non-working hours. Adding the reading of fiction to already overscheduled and overthinking lives can seem frivolous in a world of hurry, need, and stress. Even the Christian who is an avid reader can be tempted to view time spent on imaginative literature as taking away from more important material such as Scripture, theology, and history. Yet, fiction—and here I will be talking primarily of literary fiction—has much to offer the Christian.

In late antiquity, the Christian thinkers were not too much interested in the old age from the theoretical point of view. What made the old age for the classical thinkers a fault was – for the Christians – a life purpose since it highlighted the primacy of spirit. Jerome – an excellent expert on classic literature – many times touches upon the issue of the old age in his writings; however, he writes about it in the Christian vein, not in the light of the classical criteria.

Full text
Abstract:
Kern argues that the responses of Friedrich Nietzsche, James Joyce, André Gide, D. H. Lawrence, and Martin Heidegger to Christianity made up a Weberian ideal type. Accordingly: They all were raised as Christians but lost their faith when they began university studies. They all criticized the impact that they believed the anti-sexual Christian morality, with its emphasis on sin, had had, or threatened to have, on their love life. For that reason they were militantly anti-Christian but also ambivalent about Christianity. They worked to replace the loss of Christian unity with non-Christian unifying projects in literature and philosophy. Virginia Woolf, who was raised as an atheist, conformed to many of these elements of the ideal type but added another in criticizing the fragmenting patriarchal society that supported the dominant patriarchal Church of England. She envisioned new man-womanly and woman-manly types who could cultivate their understanding and love for one another in less polarizing and more humanizing ways.

This thesis explores the theological significances of I Cor 15:29 in the life of the Christian community. The methodology for this exploration requires a literature review mainly over the past half century with some historical trajectories from previous eras. Various issues and debates arise from this review, which are critiqued along with the Mormon position. An exegesis of the original Greek text and its immediate and wider context allows for an exploration of the relevant comparisons of I Cor 15:29 with other Pauline and Petrine literature as well as Credal formulae. Concluding reflections finally distil some theological significances within the Christian Community’s life.
Thesis (Masters)
Master of Philosophy (MPhil)
School of Theology
Faculty of Arts
Full Text

Vaughan, Amie H. "Reading and spiritual formation : toward a place for literature within parent-child, domestic church and body of Christ relationships for raising children in Christian faith." Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 2010. http://digitool.abdn.ac.uk:80/webclient/DeliveryManager?pid=158574.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores how and why literature and reading, as a practice within Christian families, can play an influential role in the spiritual formation of children. The first part presents a picture of Christian parenting, drawn from three theologians: Karl Barth on parents and children, based in the doctrines of creation and Christology, and the I/Thou relationship; the Roman Catholic doctrine of family as ‘domestic church’, as discussed by Florence Caffrey Bourg; and Stanley Hauweras, largely concerning his emphases of a Christian ethic, the narrative structure of life, and the Body of Christ as essential for raising children. The second part moves to investigate philosophy and literary theory, in order to show how literature is formative, from three philosophers: Richard Eldridge sees it as intellectually educational as one moves between autonomy and embeddedness in moral personhood; Martha Nussbaum argues that it is emotionally experiential, returning emotions, imagination and particulars to a central part of the search for a good life; and Wayne C. Booth presents it as an educating experience, in which one should fully engage with the work, reflect upon it, and share one’s assessments in discussion. In the last chapter and conclusion, four major themes are discussed—individuals in community, narrativity, the good life of faith, and open closure—in order to bring into clearer focus the ways literature and its formative nature can enhance the raising of children in faith, the task of Christian parents.

Abstract:
In accordance with cultural and literary theology the purpose of the study is to research Leonardas Andriekus’ (1914-2003) personality, his cultural and literary activities. In this work there are used biographical, cultural theology, literary theology and correlation methods. Searching for an appropriate theoretical base it was chosen Lev Karsavin’s (1992) a theory of a personality, philosopher Maceina’s considerations and theoretical insights while analysing Christian universalism and theology of culture (1991, 1993), Joseph Ratzinger's (1999) concept of death and eschatology as well Paul Tillich’s (1995) theology of culture. In the study there has been examined the formation of Christian universalism and concept of a universal personality in Lithuania, a paradigm of theology of culture, concepts of the theologies of art and literature. Andriekus’ life since his birth till the magazine “Aidai “ was moved into Lithuania also has been analysed. There has been disclosed Andriekus’ personality formation and his determination to the priesthood, which later was leading him towards the cleric path. Abstract:
Jane Austen’s novels remain an essential component of the literary canon, but her first published novel, Sense and Sensibility, is frequently neglected. However, in Sense and Sensibility is the genesis of Austen’s technique through which her major characters cultivate and reveal a strong inner life, demonstrated through the character of Elinor Dashwood. This technique is a characteristic she incorporates in each of her succeeding novels. Her approach to literature centers on the interiority of her characters and their ability to change, but it her first novel Austen takes a unique approach. Following the structure of an eighteenth-century sermon, Austen creates a sermon for lay people that centers on the cultivation of a strong interior life.

Abstract:
AbstractThis essay tracks a brief history of the concept of ‘co-breathing’ or ‘conspiration’ (συμπνοία), from its initial conception in Stoic cosmology in the third century BCE to its appropriation in Christian thought at the end of the second century CE. This study focuses on two related strands: first, how the term gets associated anachronistically with two paradigmatic philosopher-physicians, Hippocrates and Pythagoras, by intellectuals in the Early Roman Empire; and second, how the same term provides the early Church Fathers with a means to synthesize and explain discrete notions of ‘breath’ (πνεῦμα) through a repurposing of the pagan concept. Sources discussed include figures associated with Stoic, Pythagorean, and early Christian cosmologies.

Abstract:
AbstractUsing sources from the fourth century CE, Thomas E. Hunt analyses how people imagined breath in late antiquity. Breathing was a way to mark out and understand human difference in the complex social world of the late Roman Empire. In this context, a person’s breath was used to judge the quality of their social relationships. Breath also held cosmic import, for when a person drew in air they participated in the wider structure of the universe. Christian writers described the inner life of God by referring to these models of breath and breathing. In this essay, Hunt shows how social and theological accounts of breathy relation reinforced each other.

Abstract:
In the author's opinion, Baxterian vision of work is not a modern one (if by modern we mean secularized or even just secularizing vision), what its 'history of effects' may have been. On the one hand, given the Calvinian liquidation of sacramental ontology (the Entzauberung hypothesized by Max Weber is above all a theological act), a true personal relationship to Christ is thematized in the Reformed faithful. For decades, specialist literature has been reminding us that the 'puritan' subject is not only in the cosmos. On the other hand, a peculiar extension of the evangelical command is defined, for which the service of God extends beyond "preaching, hearing, reading, praying" to the daily reality of the godly man, essentially a man at work. Avoiding idleness is a practical guarantee of Christian life.

Abstract:
The topics of sin and salvation have played important roles in anthropological work on Christianity. But surprisingly, theological debates about atonement have not. From an anthropologist’s perspective, theological discussions of this topic are particularly rich because they are diverse and unsettled. Correlating the range of cross-cultural ethnographic data on approaches to issues of sin and salvation with the range of positions on atonement found in theological debate, this chapter argues that drawing concepts from the theological literature can not only help anthropologists recognize patterns of ethnographic variation in this area, but can also help them to make some important contributions to the currently developing anthropology of ethics. And for theologians, this chapter provides an opportunity to consider with fresh data the different kinds of social lives diverse theologies of atonement support. These arguments are developed through ethnographic materials from Papua New Guinea and sub-Saharan Africa.

Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 2 gathers the literary evidence for the late antique reading and appropriation of ancient inscriptions, complementing earlier research on the use of inscriptions in Greek and Roman literature. Some authors, such as Agathias of Myrina and Kosmas Indikopleustes, copied down real, centuries-old inscriptions with remarkable attention to detail; others, such as the anonymous authors of hagiographies or theosophical texts, invented inscriptions to make a point. One of our key examples in this chapter, the Life of Abercius, drew on at least one real ancient inscription: the famous grave stone of Abercius himself. The precise way it was used in this hagiography, however, requires a re-evaluation of the materiality of the stone and its local context. These textual sources not only indicate that older epigraphic material was of interest to late antique writers, they also show the variety of lenses through which inscriptions were interpreted. While some authors were interested in what inscriptions communicated about the past, others were preoccupied with the future, as epigraphic material took on a new, prophetic role for both pagans and Christians.

Abstract:
Abstract This final chapter explores what it meant to ‘be Christian’ at an individual level, in the later thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries: what it meant in terms of the practices of life, bodily comportment, personal actions, and in terms of inner disposition, internal reflection, and cognition, ‘belief’. It uses one very lengthy inquisition deposition, by a shepherd called Pierre Maury, as its core evidence, turning also to preaching exempla, other inquisition depositions, and further evidence to explore various issues of bodily comportment, emotions, senses, perspectives, and social contexts. It seeks also, with the help of some key pastoral literature, to uncover the complexities of what ‘believing’ was understood to involve for ordinary Christians, and how this had become both more elaborate and more demanding by the fourteenth century. The chapter includes discussion of heresy, doubt, and belief in magic, alongside a core focus on orthodox lay belief.

Many Christians around the world view the LGBT community as people who are deviants. This is because of the teachings of the Christian faith. Among the Christian community in most parts of the world, to be a part of the LGBT community is an open confirmation of a life of sin and immorality. This chapter examines the condemnation of homosexuality in the church vis-à-vis the emerging liberation theology which seeks to liberate itself from the bondage of mainstream theology. The methodology adopted is a literature review of the works of scholars in Christian theology on LGBT. The chapter concludes with a recommendation for an inclusive theology based on salvation and love.

Abstract:
Huang Lihai is one of the most active contemporary Chinese poets in the past two decades. His poems are a return to poetry, language and life. In the era of change and grand discourse dominating the aesthetic interpretation of literature, Huang Lihai’s poetry and spiritual exploration have obvious implications. His vitality in poetry creation and poetry activities has an important connection with his Christian faith and his thought resources. Huang Lihai pays close attention to individual life with heavy religious feelings, and tries to restore the relationship between man and god, the relationship between man and man, and the relationship between man and nature in the post-modern era. Backed by belief, he maintained human dignity and integrity with poetry, and opened up the divine dimension of poetry writing, which opened up a new aesthetic dimension for the Chinese contemporary poetry.

Abstract:
Modern biomedical technologies pose bioethical dilemmas for humanity. On the one hand, medical advances can make life much easier for people, but, on the other hand, the problem of interference in human nature actualizes the most fundamental questions regarding his ontology, the boundaries of permissible transformations, the responsibility of a scientist and a specialist who applies the latest technologies, for remote and unpredictable consequences, due to the integrity and interconnectedness of various aspects of human nature. In the scientific literature, there is a lot of information about the attitude of various denominations to genetic manipulation. This paper presents the experience of generalizing and systematizing the attitude of the main Christian confessions to the problem of editing the human embryo genome. The assessment of modern biomedical technologies from the standpoint of the Christian worldview differs, on the one hand, in the moral depth due to spiritual experience in relation to the higher divine principle, and, on the other hand, if we bear in mind the specificity of the Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant views on the problem of genetic manipulations, it is diversity interpretations in connection with historically arisen and existing to this day confessional and doctrinal differences.

Abstract:
As another neo-Christian religious movement, the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses has exclusivist, proselytizing, millenarian, non-creationist, non-trinitarian, politically neutral teachings and practices and claims to accept scientific discoveries based on evidence, although in practice they do not. This work aims to present and discuss the main teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses, as a member of this religious organization, baptized more than 15 years ago. To this end, it carries out a bibliographical and narrative documentary review, under the Giftedean neoperspectivist paradigm. It fills the gap in the literature on Theology and Science of Religion that there was not yet any scientific work on Jehovah's Witnesses produced and published by someone who belongs or has belonged to this religious entity for a long time. It concludes that: its teachings are based on a mainly literal interpretation of the Hebrew-Aramaic and Christian Greek Scriptures (the Bible), with the exception of prophetic symbolism; its concepts such as apostasy, porneía , dating, friendship, spirituality, maturity, sexting , sexual abuse need to be refined in the light of scientific research, since the Bible does not make them explicit in numerous cases; this religious community needs to learn to respect Science and the scientific community as a whole, since they do not currently do so, believing they understand human life, the world and truth more than scientists; it needs to implement theocratic meritocracy for the appointment, designation or removal of its leaders, with only the requirement of some spiritual qualifications prevailing today, insufficient for the fulfillment of the Christian ministry in strategic functions.

Abstract:
This article is dedicated to the idea of the “right” and “wrong” behavior of the Ancient Russian princes of the IX–XIIth centuries. The paper identifies and examines three main and significant sets of ex-pectations typical for the traditional society of Ancient Russia in the era of statehood formation – pagan tribal, pagan druzhinny and state-Christian. These view sets on the behavior and qualities of princes are significant because they created a system of ideal images and guidelines and through that they strongly influenced the real actions of the first Rurikovich princes and their relationships with various categories of the population. The research is based on the analysis of the source material and modern literature.

Abstract:
The goal of science education is emphatically positioned on promoting science literacy. The rationale is learners should not only learn about scientific knowledge and processes but also on how to apply the knowledge when making decisions about heterogenous societal and personal issues. Previous research has indicated that by addressing socioscientific issues (SSIs) when teaching controversial science topics, it provides a suitable context for developing scientific literacy in learners. Scientifically literate learners are well-informed citizens with regards to the social, ethical, economic, and political issues impacting on contemporary society. The theory of evolution is one such Life Sciences topic deeply embedded with SSIs. Teachers are conflicted when teaching this topic due to the controversy surrounding the theory as they view the teaching of evolution as a way of negating the legitimacy of their religious and cultural convictions. It is against this background that the study sought to answer the research question: How do Life Sciences teachers conceptualise socioscientific issues embedded in the topic evolution? In an explanatory mixed method approach, a questionnaire with both quantitative and qualitative questions was administered to 28 randomly selected grade 12 Life Sciences teachers. Data was analysed and descriptive statistics were obtained, and themes generated. The findings showed that all the participants were knowledgeable about the SSIs embedded in the topic evolution. In justifying their conceptions 61% of the teachers perceived SSIs as important in improving learners’ reasoning and argumentative skills; developing learners’ critical thinking skills; and in informing learners in decision making. There were however 11% of the teachers who pointed out that SSIs as too sensitive to deal with hence not suitable to teach young learners. Though the teachers were knowledgeable about the SSIs embedded in the theory of evolution, it does not mean that they could address them when teaching the various concepts of evolution. The main source of the controversy rose from the evolution of humankind versus the Christian belief in the six-day special creation. The participants (25%) indicated that evolution challenges peoples’ religious and cultural convictions, which conflicts both the teachers and learners to question or go against their religious beliefs. Several teachers pointed out that some of the concepts on evolution such as ‘living organisms share common ancestry (18%) and ‘the formation of new species from existing species’ (11%), undermine the superiority of human beings over other organisms. The findings have implications for both pre-and in-service teacher professional development.

Sklenar, Ihor. The newspaper «Christian Voice» (Munich) in the postwar period: history, thematic range of expression, leading authors and publicists. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2022.51.11393.

Full text
Abstract:
The article considers the history, thematic range of expression and a number of authors and publicists of the newspaper «Christian Voice» (with the frequency of a fortnightly). It has been published in Munich by nationally conscious groups of migrants since 1949 as a part of the «Ukrainian Christian Publishing House». The significance of this Ukrainian newspaper in post-Nazi Germany is only partly comprehended in the works of a number of diaspora press’s researchers. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to supplement the scientific information about the «Christian Voice» in the postwar period, in particular, the yearbook for 1957 was chosen as the principal subject of analysis. In the process of writing the article, we used such methods: analysis, synthesis, content analysis, generalization and others. Thus, the results of our study became the socio-political and religious context in which the «Christian Voice» was founded. The article is also a concise overview of the titles of Ukrainian magazines in post-Nazi Germany in the 1940s and 1950s. The thematic analysis of publications of 1957 showed the main trends of journalistic texts in the newspaper and the journalistic skills of it’s iconic authors and publicists (D. Buchynsky, M. Bradovych, S. Shah, etc.). The thematic range of the newspaper after 1959 was somewhat narrowed due to the change in the status of the «Christian Voice» when it became the official newspaper of the UGCC in Germany. It has been distinguished two main thematic blocks of the newspaper ‒ social and religious. Historians will find interesting factual material from the newspaper publications about the life of Ukrainians in the diaspora. Historians of journalism can supplement the bibliographic apparatus in the journalistic and publicistic works of the authors in the postwar period of the newspaper and in subsequent years of publishing. Based upon the publications of the «Christian Voice» in different years, not only since 1957, journalists can study the contents and a form of different genres, linguistic peculiarities in the newspaper articles, and so on.

Abstract:
The aim of the Kitchen Life 2 project is to identify the key behaviours relating to food safety that occur in domestic and business kitchens, as well as the factors that may reduce the likelihood to enact recommended food safety and hygiene behaviours. The outcomes will inform risk assessment and development of hypotheses for behavioural interventions. The goal of this literature review was to ensure that the research design and fieldwork techniques identify existing key behaviours, actors, triggers and barriers in domestic and business kitchens to develop successful behavioural interventions and risk assessment models. Additionally, we have included the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic and national lockdowns on food safety practices in domestic and business kitchens. This addition is important because FSA policy response to the pandemic should address the needs of both consumers and food businesses due to reduced ability to deliver inspection and enforcement activities, business diversification (for example, shifting to online delivery and takeaway), increasing food insecurity, and change in food consumption behaviours (for example, cooking from scratch) (FSA, 2020).

Abstract:
It is widely accepted that schools and other settings catering to youth can play an essential role in offering education in life skills and character. However, there exists a broad array of potential targets for such programs, suggesting the need for guidance on which targets are most likely to result in demonstrable and valuable results. This report attempts to integrate a broad literature addressing the universe of targets for skills development programs for youth. After identifying a set of 30 candidate skills to investigate further, research literature was reviewed to evaluate each skill on three dimensions. Measurability had to do with the extent to which adequate measurement tools were available for evaluating skill level, with emphasis on those tools specifically used for younger populations and available in multiple languages, particularly in Spanish. Malleability had to do with the extent to which there is evidence that interventions have the potential to modify skill level, with emphasis on those that have been extensively evaluated through randomized controlled trials. Finally, meaningfulness had to do with the extent to which evidence exists demonstrating that the higher levels of skill can result in consequential outcomes. Based on these criteria, 10 skills were selected for further review as having the most compelling evidence to date that they are life skills that matter: Mindfulness, Empathy and compassion, Self-efficacy/ Self-determination, Problem solving, Critical thinking, Goal orientation and goal completion, Resilience/Stress resistance, Self-awareness, Purposefulness, and Self-regulation/Self-control/Emotion regulation. The evidence for each is summarized. We finish with a review of key issues to consider in the design, implementation, and evaluation of life skills that matter.
