Full textFirst-principles calculations, by means of the FULL-potential augmented plane wave method using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) were carried out to study structural and electronic properties of the CrC and CrN in their stoichiometric and substoichiometric forms. The multilayer of CrC and CrN were also studied with the molecular dynamic method where the variation of the bulk modulus and young modulus with the thickness are also seen as where as the effect of the vacancy on the multilayer of CrC and CrN. Full textTo understand electroreduction process of trivalent chromium we have explored some aspects of chromium (III) chemistry (hydrolysis, complex formation …) and its electroreactivity for an industrial solution. For that, we have studied complexes formation for a simple case: a solution of trivalent chromium and ligand. Formation of complexes was analysed at different experimental conditions by using absorption spectroscopy and pHmetry. The comparison of several reference compounds absorbance spectra has allowed the partial identification of interactions between ligand and metallic cation. These results were transposed to an industrial solution to determine what sort of complexes could be formed in a specific experimental condition (high ionic force and concentration …) and to understand elaboration protocol of industrial solution. Electrochemical reactivity of trivalent chromium species was analyzed with several solutions and working electrodes (stainless steel, chromium and platinum). We have put in light that complexes of chromium (III)-glycine is necessary to obtain the reduction of trivalent chromium into metallic chromium and that electrochemical process takes place in two electrochemical steps at least. Finally anodic reactions were analyzed by gas analyses and determination of each compound amount after electrolysis. This setting in perspective of the two last chapters allows a description of electroreduction mechanism which includes electrochemical and chemical steps
