Abstract:

Abstract:
The benefit of using WiFi for Internet connection is obvious: cost-effective and powerful. WiFi gives us the flexibility and convenience of not being tied to a fixed location. Nowadays, more and more electronic devices and gadgets, such as mobile phones, cameras, gaming devices, TV and entertainment equipment, are WiFi enabled. WiFi also enables your devices to share files instantly. WiFi broadcasting devices, such as Chromecast, give you extra convenience by allowing you to stream video and audio contents from your mobile phone to your TV using WiFi connection. However, this kind of flexibility and convenience comes with a cost. Sharing files, streaming contents or even accessing the Internet via WiFi means signals are being transmitted and they can be captured by anyone with a computer or mobile phone installed with appropriate software. Therefore, it is important to let WiFi users know their security risks and how to minimize them. Educating WiFi users to reduce the WiFi security risk is one of our on-going missions. Basing on empirically collected data, this paper is report of a comprehensive study on the use of WiFi and WiFi networking and the knowledge of WiFi users of the risks and security issues involved in using WiFi in Hong Kong. Findings of the study highlight the WiFi security knowledge gaps of the users in Hong Kong so that stakeholders can take action to improve Internet security by eliminating the security gaps identified.

Abstract:
Background During aneurysm surgery, neurosurgeons may need to look at the cerebral angiograms again to better orient themselves to the aneurysm and also the surrounding vascular anatomy. Simplification of the intraoperative imaging review and reduction of the time interval between the view under the microscope and the angiogram review can theoretically improve orientation. Objective To describe the use of a smartphone as a remote touchpad to simplify intraoperative visualization of three-dimensional (3D) cerebral angiograms and reduce the time interval between the view under the microscope and the angiogram review. Methods Anonymized 3D angiograms of the patients in Virtual Reality Modelling Language format are securely uploaded to sketchfab.com, accessible through smartphone Web browsers. A simple software has been developed and made available to facilitate the workflow. The smartphone is connected wirelessly to an external monitor using a Chromecast device and is used intraoperatively as a remote touchpad to view/rotate/zoom the 3D aneurysms angiograms on the external monitor. Results Implementation of the method is practical and helpful for the surgeon in certain cases. It also helps the operating staff, registrars, and students to orient themselves to the surgical anatomy. I present 10 of the uploaded angiograms published online. Conclusion The concept and method of using the smartphone as a remote touchpad to improve intraoperative visualization of 3D cerebral angiograms is described. The implementation is practical, using easily available hardware and software, in most neurosurgical centers worldwide. The method and concept have potential for further development.

Abstract:
The purpose of this essay is to explain the functionality behind the Google Cast technology and give insight into the different components that a media application in an Android environment with Google Cast support requires. Google Cast technology allows media consumers to remotely play arbitrary media against a so-called Chromecast receiver, from a different device, which can be a phone, computer, or surf pad. The company BookBeat assigned the project, whose customers have been asking for Google Cast support in the companies Android application for a while. The goal of the project was to develop a radio application in an Android environment with Google Cast support. The purpose of the goal was to gain insight into how the concept worked and to develop an example application that BookBeat would be able to use as a reference in their future implementation of Google Cast. The goal was achieved, and the hope is that this example will be of use for BookBeat.

Abstract:
The newly released Google Chromecast has generated an increasing amount of interest for so called second-screen experiences in the market. Although the technology behind such experiences has existed for a couple of years, end users are now truly starting to grasp the concept and benefits of multi-screen. The company, at which the thesis was performed at, provides a cloud-based messaging solution for Internet connected devices, which enables multi-screen use cases. To increase the amount of supported platforms in the solution, new technologies frequently needs to be integrated. In this thesis I have performed an exploratory research & development project with the aim to integrate the Google Cast technology in this multi-screen solution. The fundamental difference in how the two ecosystems were designed resulted in a companion device framework that acted as a wrapper over the technologies. The framework was implemented on the Android platform together with a set of demo applications. The proposed solution should be seen as a starting point for integrating different multi-screen technologies within a single companion device framework. While combining these technologies, a fundamental difference in the user experience between them became apparent. The Google Cast ecosystem relies on the companion device as the interaction point for the end user, whereas television (TV) applications usually have the main interaction point on the actual TV itself via a dedicated remote control. Having this kind of inconsistency within the same set of applications increases the risk of confusion among end users. Therefore I suggest that development of such multi-screen experiences, that combines these technologies, should strive for a high consistency throughout the whole user experience, independent of platforms and technology.

Abstract:
The thesis is focused on the characteristics of the key features of the operating system Google Chrome OS and on the evaluation of deployment of this operating system in practise. The theoretical part describes the purpose and philosophy of the commercial operating system Google Chrome OS and its relation with Chrome web browser. The connection with open-source projects Chromium and Chromium OS is explained. Details of application development and deployment options, in the form of virtualization and domain administration, are analysed. The practical part applies theoretical knowledge from the development of applications for Chrome OS to create thin client application for remote control of hardware sensor over the internet. This sensor is designed and built on the platform Arduino. The sensor measures the temperature and humidity of the ambient air and remote controls high-voltage switching relays. Communication over TCP/IP uses modern MQTT protocol, for which the server is configured with MQTT Broker Mosquitto. The next section demonstrates the procedure for building a customized build of Chromium OS from the publicly provided Google source codes. Based on the evaluation of the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge, I assess the possibility of deploying the Chrome OS in private and commercial areas.

Online streaming has been progressively popular recently. Chromecast is one of the features. Our research focuses on the people’s intention of use of Chromecast by applying modified the UTAUT2 (extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology) theory. By path analysis, we find that performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit and brand image have significant effect on the behavioral intention of using Chromecast, while effort expectancy and social influence do not have significant effect on the behavioral intention of using Chromecast and all the moderators (gender, age and experience) do not have significant moderating effect. The academic and managerial implication are also discussed.
