Background Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD) is an under-diagnosed disease with a prevalence of approximately 10%, highly dependent on age and smoking habits. COPD is the fourth leading cause of death globally, and CVD probably contribute to the high mortality. Within CVD, Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) is the most common. It is highly clinically relevant to identify signs of ischemic heart disease, other cardiac conditions, and risk factors for CVD in COPD. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a s

Introduction Increased levels of particulate matter air pollution (PM) have been associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, especially in elderly adults and in people suffering from cardiovascular or lung diseases. Which fraction of PM is the most harmful is still controversial, and few studies investigated the role of personal exposure to different fractions, and

As in most developed countries, Australia is experiencing a rise in the proportion of aged population, with current predictions estimating that by 2051, the number of people aged 65 years and over will increase from the cur

Over the last century, ischemic heart diseases (IHD) have been the worldwide leading cause of death. Major improvement in the prevalence and prognosis of IHD is dominantly related to the modulation of disease (atherosclerosis) risk factors rather than developing pharmacological approaches to treatment. Excessive inflammatory response, especially after ischemia-reperfusion injury (IR), represents a key feature in the progressive pathology of IHD.
