These molecules are ubiquitous pollutants of the environment, and can contaminate foodstuffs such as fish. For this purpose, 154 specimens of C. nigrodigitatus with total mean weight of 829.96 ± 829.58 g and total mean length of 367 ± 156 mm collected from artisanal fishermen were used. Twenty-nine (29) females at stage V of sexual maturity were selected for the evaluation of the fecundity. It appears that the oogenesis in C. nigrodigitatus is of an asynchronous type with multiple laying spread over a long period. The gonadoso

This study investigated the ingestion of microplastics by silver catfish (Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus) from New Calabar River in Niger Delta, Nigeria. Microplastics from the guts of 45 fish were examined with microscope after dissolution with potassium hydroxide. Microplastics, mostly fragments were found in about 56% of the samples at an average of 3.87±5.97 particles per fish. This study highlights the consequences of plastic pollution in freshwater environment and the potential risk to aquatic and human life. This also shows a potential threat to public health and therefore needs attention

Study of the structure of the reproductive organ of some teleost fishes in River Jamieson, Sapele, was undertaken between July and September 2009. Length and weight measurements of fishes and gonads were determined. It was observed that testes were of two structural forms, threadlike and smooth in the Cichlidae, but branched lobules in catfishes (Bagridae and Mochokidae). Ovaries were sac-like and contained telolecital eggs. The gonads depicted breeding activities. Female catfishes Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus (57.14%) Synodontis eupterus (75%) and (66.6%) were more abundant than males, while m
